Wow this place is amazing! We came for dinner at around 9pm and they unfortunately were out of chicken and brisket was a 20 min wait, so I got the 1/4 pound of turkey for myself which was the perfect size. The sample of creamed corn that they gave me to try reeled me in and I had to have a whole serving of it for myself after that bite. They ask you how many slices of bread you want so I got two to make a turkey sandwich and it was delicious! I also got a side of peach cobbler which was excellent - also get some ice cream from inside to add to your cobbler to make it even tastier. Seating is available both in and outdoors. My wife and I went here a couple of years ago, and it is definitely some of the best BBQ ever. Moist, juicy, and delicious. Price point was very good. You work your way through line and then tell them what meat and sides you want, and then you go in to the Country store and sit at the communal picnic tables. Absolutely amazing food! read more

Ever since living in Selma, this location was always the one I went to for great brisket and cream of corn. However, after living in NC and now back in the area, I have eaten here twice. Let me get straight to the positives first. The location is convenient off the I35 corridor. The store still has that nice familiarity. The cream of corn is as always the best which i have not found duplicated anywhere else. The cashier, new (older gentlemen, forgot his name) was pleasant and the cashier inside the store was also friendly and welcoming. The unfortunate part was the meat. Normally, one could forgive a one time off day but two times especially considering the Lean Brisket @ $8.80 a lb. and i forgot what the price of the sausage. The brisket, which we had to wait 20 min and come back for, had just came out and it looked overcooked. We sat down and began to eat. The sliced brisket should have had a moist consistency but when you bend it, it cracked to indicate the dryness as well as lack of taste. We had to smother it with BBQ sauce just to eat it. The sausage was just regular ordinary meat that wasn't special but had an extra greasiness to it. I don't know if its this location that has had a set back in the quality and cook of their meat compared to the other locations. I just know that Blacks BBQ up the road has a better tasting brisket. Stopped by and grabbed some brisket & beans to go, they were both ok. The meat was a little dry and the only flavor it really had was smoky. With the bbq sauce they provided, it was much better. The beans were just different than what I'm used to at other places. The staff was friendly so that's good. This possibly could be the WORST Rudy's in Texas! I'm a huge Rudy's fan and the newer locations around Houston are the consistently best bbq in Texas. Rudy's evidently is not enforcing quality control over cook methods. I have no issue with the older location & weird layout but the "moist" brisket I got today is the worst brisket I have ever eaten. It was so tough I could not eat it in a sandwich. No flavor. I had to cut it with a steak knife. All the other Rudy's are so tender, moist with that crispy juice crust. I bought 2 lbs thinking I would eat on it for days and after two slices I'm throwing the $72 rest away in garbage Shame on you Rudy's for not controlling the cook methods and quality at All of your locations. I am really hoping for Rudy's sake this is a one off franchisee running this place. Will never return to this location and kind of makes me hesitant to visit my Rudy's elsewhere. And as you see from previous reviews just 18 days ago, I am not the only customer with the same disappointed observations about this location. Don't make the mistake of going to Franklin BBQ on Sunday & then agree to meet up with a friend at Rudy's for lunch on Thurs. The disappointment level will be exponential :/ I ordered brisket & baby baby ribs and had some turkey & sausage from my friend's plate. The meats failed to impress. None of it had that extra smokiness that I've come to love about Texas bbq. Plus, everything was on the dry side. I usually don't like to add bbq sauce. But in this case, I had to in order to give the meats some flavor. Even the famous creamed corn was just ok. Nothing special. I brought leftovers to my husband to try. We had coworkers in town from Neenah, WI. & they wanted some good bbq fast. The fast part of their request eliminated the barbecue trail, and they had eaten at the Granary the last time in town. Since we had a group of 9, we needed a place that would let us spread out & Rudy's came to mind. We loaded up the cars and headed for the Schertz location. As it was not very crowded, we got to walk up and place our orders. Since it was a big group with varied taste, we ordered brisket (both moist & lean), turkey, ribs, & sausage. Of course we had to get beans and corn. While waiting on the order, they offered us samples of turkey & sausage. We took our feast to the tables and let our coworkers dig in. For me, I just stuck with the moist brisket, ribs, and sausage:) I don't think I have seen food disappear that fast in a long time. When all was said and done, only empty butcher paper and bones remained. The only complaint I heard out of the entire group was that the ribs were a little dry. To be honest, that was true. However, everything else was "on point". I don't think anybody was disappointed, and multiple people said it was awesome. read more

Never been a really big fan of Rudy's. The brisket is on par with Bill Miller's, the ribs are ok(but expensive), the chicken is good and the turkey is probably the best thing on the menu. Also a bit too pricey if you ask me. The tater salad (mm-hmm) is my favorite side. Many people rave on about their creamed corn and I must admit it is pretty darned good - however, mine is better - no offense Rudy... :) I would have given them three stars but on the night we were there with a large group, the front dining room area was very hot and there were lots of flies. I checked the back room and it was very cool - however, our group had already settled down and started eating, so I wasn't about to relocate them. This is my first time having food from Rudy's and since I wasn't able to eat it there, but thru take-out, this review is purely on the food. That said, we ordered the turkey breast, moist brisket, regular sausage and two large orders of the cream corn. Along with the order came a full loaf of the white bread and plenty of their signature bar-b-q sauce. Now, even though I ate the food at a home some 15 minutes away from Rudy's (Selma, TX) , the meat was still very warm and the corn was piping hot and perfect. The meat came in one larger metal tin with heavy foil protecting the meat from the cold winds. Both the meats & sausage were very tender and flavorful, but I never had smoked turkey meat slices that had so much flavor. I couldn't stop eating it. I was grabbing slice after slice so much that I lost count. And the soft fresh white bread absorbing the flavor of the turkey meat as I dipped it in the red bar-b-q sauce was simply divine. There are several locations around San Antonio so I'll have to definitely stop by one and see how the food is there. If you love food and salivate at the thought of eating good ol smoked meat, then you must try Rudy's. read more

I have been here I few times and I thought I wrote a review. I think it was for the one by sea world. This is one of the locations of the original Rudy's. We came here today because my children wanted to eat here before school started. Service was great. We were greeted with warm friendly smiles and a taste of sweet cream corn. (It was super hot--- off the stove-becareful) For sides we ordered cream corn, slaw, potato salad and pickles (complimentary). Meats we ordered extra lean brisket, turkey, a pork rib and chopped. They were all great choices. My children finished a pint of corn between the two of them. I enjoyed the brisket and pork rib. It was just perfectly bbq. The sause was a perfect complement to the bbq. There was quite a few people inside because the ac was blowing cold. Well it is only 101 outside. I doubt if anyone will enjoy food in that heat. Bathrooms were clean. Facilities were clean. Parking lot was clean. I wish the blue tray didn't have dried sause on it then I would of given then 5 stars. read more

What a dreary day, but was wanting craving some brisket. Due to the nasty weather really didn't feel like driving into S-town for my regular bbq joint. So with great hesitation headed to my neighborhood Rudy's. Am I ever glad that we did! First of all let me say what a friendly and "eager to take care of you crew". I like my brisket with some marble and extra points for some crispy char. They did not disappoint The ribs were deliciously smoked. Not crispy but none the less yummy. I surprisingly ate all of this WITHOUT sauce, yes it was that good! The sides of cream corn and potato salad were good enough. My only wish was that they had mac&cheese and banana pudding but hey, this girl needs to watch her figure. Let me conclude that the management & staff were what made my day & a repeat customer. Visiting San Antonio and my uncle recommended this restaurant and I was pleased. 3 1/2 stars. Very interesting type of restaurant. When we pulled up I was skeptical because of the gas station and store type setup. Reminds me of being back in school and having lunch in the cafeteria. They put all of your food in a tray and you get your tray of food and head to find a table inside the store or outside at one of the picnic tables. My food highlights were the creamed corn, the turkey, and peach cobbler. The corn is so creamy and delicious! I really could have ate it all day long! The turkey was so moist which was surprising. I really wanted to buy a pound of it and take it back to Georgia to make sandwiches lol. Also I'm not a peach cobbler fan at all but theirs was really good! The chicken and brisket were pretty good as well. The barbecue sauce wasn't anything special but it got the job done. I don't eat pork so I can't speak on the ribs but my family said they weren't the best, just ok. I wish they had a wider variety of meats and sides. I really wanted beef ribs so I was disappointed. My sister, her husband and I saw Rudy's BBQ on our way to Austin from San Antonio and had an instant craving for GOOD BBQ. The place has a country vibe that is welcoming and smelled SO amazing. I don't know what this man's name was, but he was incredibly friendly and made us try the creamed corn - holy moly AH-MAZING. So of course, we got the creamed corn and a small portion of EVERYTHING. HA. No regrets. The staff are wonderful, you can eat outside and have as much BBQ "sause" as you want. The BBQ sauce is very good but a little too peppery for me. I was in the middle of driving cross country as a travel nurse stopped here in the uhaul to pick up food. Ate in the truck and was so tired I fell asleep. I was woken up by a cop Bc the manager had called the cops. I apologized and I explained to the cop that I was just a very tired nurse. He thanked me for my service; I thanked him and drove to the gas station next door (owned by rudys apparently. I clicked the auto gas on and noticed the manager from Rudy's walking up to me! He started yelling that he would call the cops again. I left. The issue he had was the truck vs a regular car. Bad experience. He could have just shown compassion. And We came quite often, spent in the neighborhood of $70 at least 1 - 2 times a month, now they want almost $100 for the same order?!!! I would stop just for the sausage and sometimes 1/4 # brisket, on a twice a week stop on my way to Dallas for dinner in the truck. Well I guess I had never had "real" bbq in my life due to the fact that I'm from florida. All the bbq there has LOTS of sauce. And apparently good bbq calls for not much sauce. Well now that I've had Rudy's I know that.... and DAMN it was good. I mean the brisket was so tender and moist. Didn't even need sauce. We also got half bbq chicken and it was DELISH! I'll start by saying I love Rudy's. We go multiple times a year and go to the Selma location. But once again this location ran out of brisket by 7:30 (my arrival time). They told me they ran out about 7 pm. And then advise me to go to the Nakoma location (which is 15 minutes away) but closes at 8 pm.
