Enjoyed dinner at Ruggles Black. The ambience is very sexy with beautiful chandeliers, accent walls, which are black and gold. Keinya was our waiter and she was very attentive and friendly. For drinks I ordered the Bourbon Billionaire and my husband had the Keto Margarita. Both had a good flavor but a little too juicy for us. For our Entrees I had the Paleo Beef Bolognese which was good. What I loved is my vegetables were seasoned well, not soggy and had a good crunch. My husband had the Lamb Burger and it was enough for two people. The burger was very delicious with a sweet and savory taste. The menu features a wide array of healthy food options focusing on Keto, Paleo, and CBD offerings. The foods are not specific to any culture, but a curation healthy takes on crowd favorites. 9/19/2023 update: I went here to buy a few slices of the keto Nutella Pie and it was significantly smaller!!!! For $16/slice I felt so cheated. I'm done with this place. A friend and I went to dinner today since I was in the downtown Houston area until 5pm for work. Ambiance: 10/10. This is a beautifully decorated spot. Multiple chandeliers illuminate the restaurant with a grown and sexy vibe. There were candles lit for dinner and the feel was romantic elegance. It is somewhere you'd take someone special. Not just any 'ole person Service: Complimentary Valet: 10/10. The young men were courteous and everything went smoothly. Make sure to tip the valet guys!!!!! Waiter: 8.5/10. He would have gotten a 10 but asked to refill my diet coke at the end of the meal. Overall he was knowledgeable about the menu. Gave us ample time to decide and did not crowd our dinner. Food: 6/10. We ordered off the keto menu. 1) Keto Bread: 1/10. This was more like a slice of cake and had the consistency of corn bread. If they reworked the recipe and added some swerve it would be better. Maybe even make it look like some mini muffins would be a more appeasing option. 2) Keto Brussels Sprouts: 8/10. Walking in. The ambiance was great. You don't have to be overly dressed but you can dress up if you choose to. The waiters came quickly to attend to us. And our waiter was very patient seeing that it took a minute to decide on our drinks. This is my 1st time at this restaurant and visiting Houston from Los Angeles. I wanted something frozen so I got the frozen peach billini. The alcohol wasn't overwhelming. The balance between the mix and the alcohol was great. I decided to go with the 16oz ribeye. 1st bite into it was unbelievable. I got it medium well and it was still perfect. The flavor was what I expected from Houston. Normally, it would take me forever to finish something like that. But I blinked and I had destroyed this dish. And it was a pretty big portion. I tried the paleo pistachio snapper. All I can say is I know what I'm getting next time I come back here. Fish is always tricky to me because sometimes you can still taste the sea in the fish. But it was well done. Really like this Indian-French fusion place. Decent free parking lot after 6 if I recall (although might not be the case on weekends and evenings) and vibes are really pleasant. Lots of plants and string lights around the evening time which creates a rustic romantic essence. There's also elaborate silver candle holders as table decorations which brings a bit of the middle eastern touch. My go to is the crab poblano pasta and shrimp pizza! Unfortunately, realized I never took pictures of the pizza :( but trust me it's good lol. I tried the beef short rib tacos once and wasn't a huge fan. Too salty and greasy. Waiting for the day I am able to try the lobster tacos but every time I try ordering it's either not in season or unavailable. Maybe it's best to just remove it off the menu completely to stop getting my hopes up. *Certain entrees are also a bit overpriced so be weary about the value you're getting. Now back to the good: The crab pasta has some hints of coconut curry flavor which I love mixed in with an assortment of spices. The "pasta" part is also made from squash! Which always makes me happy since I feel like I'm doing my health a service, sort of? Lol. The crunchiness of the veggies blends perfectly well with the sweet texture and taste of crab. The second one I looked at the online menu and the waiter wasn't sure about it- I said look right here. If you don't have something for it the bartender can be creative or I will have a glass of pinot grigio- they went the extra mile with 3 people working to make my drink - that's the kind of place this is. I had the carbonara with impossible noodles- out of this world and I am supposed to be carb-free and that was my first time 1 carb a serving- the dish was good. My partner didn't care for it though- he said he didn't like the noodle texture- I thought it was fine- not homemade flour/egg pasta but good. My only beef..... it is a weekday, it was early and not even 1/3 full. I pull in valet parking. So I had to pay to LET someone drive my car- he looked 15. 2 feet. I even said "dude, there is a spot right there, I park all the time! I don't care that my car is old I don't like strangers driving it." It's valet only. Glad you have it for those who want/need it. Glad they took card not only cash- but that alone will have me not come back. I HATE mandatory valet. I've been coming here for years. Every time I come I get something different and have never been disappointed. I have had the pan roasted Brussel sprouts, crab tower, Seabass, the Ribeye, Paleo Fried Chicken, Tandoori Chicken, Pistachio crusted Snapper, along with multiple desserts. I honestly couldn't tell you what I loved the most. Each dish has something that would normally turn me away, but I've ordered anyway and have loved each dish more than the last. Service is always attentive and knowledgeable when asking for recommendations. The only thing that I would consider "negative" is that it's very dark - I get it's part of the aesthetic but a little more light would be nice as well - this, to me, doesn't take away from my experience. Went to ruggles black for a date night. The main reason we went was because of their CBD infused menu. Once I arrived I was greeted and it was no wait. Inside the place is very pretty. To the left is the bar area, and they have some Hightop seating and a few booth like seating. To the right, they have more seating, but the seating area is really close to others . I ended up sitting at the bar . I was happy to know they also have a purse holder. Their menu is more dedicated to keto dieting, and their CDB menu was very limited, which is why I took away 2 stars. This is a hidden GEM! The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous in the in side and has a spacious outside seating area for large parties. The wait staff is phenomenal and management is TOP TIER. One of my favorite things are their Brussel sprouts! The sauce and bacon takes them to another level. The crab tower was so flavorful and filling. Definitely top 3 lamb chops I've had. I was highly impressed by the good. The drinks? Not so much. The Lavender lemonade tasted like syrup. It was too sweet and thick. Met our dear friends in town for the day for lunch today at their choice of restaurant. They are big into the Paleo diet and keto so a welcome choice for them. I'm not so much and so was tentative about the choice but Ruggles earlier versions were always well done so I was game. The menu was different to say the least with choices for those inclined to paleo and keto as well as an array of options including CBD. We started with a queso that didn't involve cheese along with chips that were made from a rustic flour. Chips were good, the "queso" was more of a hummus and grainy so not my thing. I order cream cheese crab rolls reminiscent of crab Rangoon and they were remarkably good, oozing with cheese and a generous amount of crab. Main courses were as varied as the group, pizzas, a wonderful short rib burger, chicken tacos and enchiladas. All paleo but just plain good. It being National Bloody Mary Day (who knew?), we ordered a couple of those resplendent with fresh veggies and black salt, they were satisfying. If you are following a strict diet, like Keto or Paleo there is no other place that will serve as delicious food as Ruggles Black! I am just completely awed by the extent of the menu and how beautifully plated and delicious the dishes are. Huge portions too! 100% worth visiting! From sugar free cocktails that are actually amazing to the most decadent keto friendly desserts ( my friend had it), they seem to have it all! The indoor atmosphere is gorgeous, just look at the pictures! And the staff was outstanding in every possible way, from hostesses to servers to busters and food runners everyone was impeccable! My meal: Shared the crab tower for appetizer, and unless you plan on making this your main course, which is a fabulous idea, you will definitely need an other person to help! Perfectly citrusy and a hint of spicy it was my favorite dish of the night! I was so full after the crab tower that I could only think to order a salad, and the warm goat cheese salad was so so so tasty and again, enormous! I paired it with a salmon fillet for protein since my friend insisted I had to try it, and it was perfectly cooked to my requested medium rare temperature and deliciously seasoned! After being forced into taking a look at the dessert menu (such torture, I know) I found myself enjoying the most delicious bread pudding, they use a crusty bread, maybe baguette or Tuscan bread, that gives it the perfect balance in texture. Omg! Where do I start with Ruggles?! Chef Bruce out did himself on today's restaurant week meal! Everything we ordered was delicious! From our appetizers fried shrimp and fried oysters, to the main course steak with mashed cauliflower and veggies and the grilled chicken with masked cauliflower and veggies to our dessert the vanilla bread pudding! I kid you not I used to live in Chicago and have been looking for a place that can make some good bread pudding and I definitely have found the place!! Some of the negatives were the fact that you have to valet park for $5 (without tip) even when the lot is completely empty and you park your own car. We had the short rib eggs Benedict and the meat was overly salted like maybe the salt shaker was spilled on the meat. We also had the paleo tacos (snapper and shrimp) and they were delicious. The pistachio snapper was it for me despite the fact I don't love fig! The only thing I would change is getting the fig on the side. My bf's ribeye was well done but still delicious! When I walked in I stood at the hostess desk waiting for 5 minutes. When the bartender decided to greet me he a asked me who I was picking up for ( he assumed I was a good delivery person), I'm not going to lie I was offended. My waiter was very sweet he made great recommendations. I ordered the Peach Bellini and the Lamb Stroganoff pasta. I was told they didn't have the peach Bellini and was recommended the frozen rose, this drink was pretty strong. Ruggles Black is one of those situations where I was torn between a three-star and four-star review. I stopped by on a weekday with dinner with a friend who was in town. Her parents live in the Kirby area and it was within walking distance from her place. Since we walked, I can't touch on the parking experience. Ruggles Black is all about healthy eating. They have an extensive menu, including a paleo menu which is large enough to be the menu of a restaurant in itself. Since it's healthy food, it's pretty expensive. And higher than I expected. We started off with the crab tower which I highly recommend! It was the highlight of the night. Beyond its visually appealing stature, you get a generous portion of lump crabmeat, avocado, pico, and wonton strips. I stuck with another appetizer with the paleo ribs but I wasn't a huge fan of them. While you do get two good-sized ribs, they were lacking in flavor. We ended with the white chocolate bread putting which was pretty good and served a la mode with a scoop of coconut ice cream. While we sat indoors, if the weather cooperates, sit outside on their patio. They have a bunch of multi-colored lights, it's a beautiful space and makes for a great date spot. read more

I have had the EXTREMELY unfortunate and DISCRIMINATORY experience of speaking rhe general manager KAT as well as BRUCE the owner. A friend and I came in to enjoy happy hour as this is one of my favorite restaurants to come to when I come in town. I showed her on your website that it shows happy hour is until 6pm Mon-Sat. She immediately told me that's not true and that she's been here since April every Sat. I told her again, I've been here a few times on a Saturday and have enjoyed the happy hour here with no issues prior. She told me she wouldn't honor your website and that I need to show her receipts from when I have dined here on a Saturday because I was "mistaken" as to which day I came (her words". I'm extremely insulted by her severely inappropriate behavior. She continued to eat her pizza and tell me she won't honor this and that I need to show her when I came on a Saturday. I'm so disappointed by the customer service I received here and this has truly ruined our Saturday. I always have spoken highly of this restaurant, the food and the beautiful atmosphere. I've suggested to people that this would be a lovely place for a birthday dinner. My friend that I am with has a birthday coming up which is why I wanted her yo see how lovely this restaurant is. Overall everything was extremely dry. I tasted the lamb burger and it was extremely dry after he ordered it medium. The sweet potato fries were soggy. My stuffed chicken was dry and the outter area of the chicken breast that was"lightly battered" was very dry and overcooked. Not my favorite. I would recommend to come here for the drinks and ambience for a light evening with friends.
