Ruschmeyer's, now nicknamed Sh*tmeyer's, was a horrifying experience to say the least at my bachelorette party. We basically had to sign away our lives on paperwork stating we would not cancel or be late for our reservation for 11 girls on memorial day weekend - $25 fee per person if you cancel, FYI. My party was very excited to eat and drink here for the night since we had heard great things about how great the food and the party scene was. When we arrived on time for our 8:00 reservation, we were told they sat WALK INS (on a holiday weekend) and our table was not ready, but to grab a drink at the bar in the mean time. While we waited 2 hours for our table, granted we were extremely upset/angry at this point, the management and owner were SO rude to our party. They continued telling us 'we were their priority' and 'our table was just finishing dessert' - though it was clear we did not have a table. When we asked to speak with the owner, he laughed in our faces when we confronted him as to why we weren't seated and why we were being lied to. The bouncer screamed obscenities in my sister in law's face. They even tried to seat us outside after making the reservation for an indoor table. After we refused that table, we were finally seated at a long, high top table where drunk people were crashing into us and taking food off our plates (yes that actually happened). I even missed the food coming to the table because I was waiting in line for the bathroom for 20 minutes. I won't even get into it about how the actual food was because it would be a literal waste of my time (it was terrible). It was abundantly clear to us that the management at this establishment does not care how poorly they treat their customers because at the end of the day, it's Montauk and they know they'll always be busy with young city crowds and will consistently make a profit. I came here for a night out with friends and was SERIOUSLY impressed. The ambiance of this bar was incredible, and so much more laid-back than many other bars in the area. We got there around 8:30, which was apparently the perfect time because the venue already had a decent amount of people, but we avoided the inevitable LOOOOONG line that started up later on. My friends and I sat near the campfire, watched the cornhole games, and just had an overall great time. It was all my friends' favorite spot of our trip and I"m so glad we went there. The reason I rated Ruschmeyer's 4 stars instead of 5 is because of pricing. We were ordering the cheapest bottles of Rose, which were DEFINITELY significantly upcharged. I know I could have gotten the same bottle for at least $20 less. However, I would definitely go back again just because I enjoyed everything else about the venue so much. Ambiance was nice, and the food was pretty good. Had the clam pizza, lobster roll, shrimp cocktail, and the mussels. The lobster roll was so so. I have had better for much less in Manhattan. The best lobster roll in Montauk is at The Lobster Roll on the way into town. The shrimp cocktail was very good, but was appalled at two shrimp for $20. The mussels were average. The clam pizza was tasty but once again not worth the price. Overall we enjoyed the meal but the price was definitely not worth it. $285 for a dinner for 4 that consisted of pizza and lobster rolls. We felt like we got ripped off at a tourist trap which unfortunately ruined the taste of the food. I would not go back unless they dropped there rates at least 30%. You can get more for much less at other places. I willing to pay for a good meal, but this was not the case. Thumbs down. read more

Do not go here unless you are accompanied by an equal amount of women. We were told "I am not gonna let a bunch of dudes in here". Instead they would rather let a bunch of 20 year olds females with fake ID in who were sneaking liquor in their pocket books. The food here is absolutely horrendous. Our party was over 6 people so they made us do a pre-fix menu which cost $90 per person. We were sitting at two 6 person tables right next to each other but they were unable to split the checks to do 2 regular menus and forced us to do the pre-fix. The menu includes one salad for 12 people which consists of literal grass from the backyard. The salad has no dressing on it and we were basically told that if we didn't like it then that was too bad. The pizzas that came out were basically frozen lunchables. It was almost inedible. They also thought it was acceptable to bring out 2 personal pizzas for 12 people, 8 total miniature slices. How this math adds up I'm not sure. The fish that came as the main course was actual cat food. It was so over cooked it looked like they put the halibut in a deep fryer. I wish they didn't even serve us food. If you want to eat edible food for dinner go literally anywhere else. If you're trying to make a dinner reservation so you can get into the bar at night - it's actually not worth it. If I could leave 0 stars, I would. The food here is god awful. It's almost as if they're trying to churn out food that is only mediocre. Their shpeal about using "locally sourced ingredients" is really just a cover for the fact that their food is terrible. Not to mention it's terribly overpriced. But hey, I guess that's what you get when you eat at a "trendy" Montauk establishment. But do not go here expecting food that is even halfway tasty. We had dinner here on a Saturday night and it was just bad from top to bottom. But what's worse, is the following night, we had a reservation for 11pm to do a late night celebration for my girlfriends birthday, and they absolutely ruined the entire thing. We showed up at 11:03pm and the a--hole bouncer/security guy told us that the kitchen closes at 11 and that they were now a "nightlife" venue. We showed them our confirmed dinner reservation in OpenTable for 11pm, but despite having a confirmed reservation, he did not seem to care at all. Having worked in F&B and hospitality for many years, this really rubbed me the wrong way. First, it's horrible management on their end that they're taking reservations on OpenTable for 11pm when their kitchen closes at 11pm. Beyond that, the kicker was that not only would he not seat us for our planned dinner, but he wouldn't even let us in! He told us that they were now a "nightlife" venue and we had to wait on the "nightlife" line in front, which was a 20-30 minute line we ended up waiting on. Had it not been my girlfriends birthday, I would have told this guy to go f*ck himself. It's pretty sad that Ruschmeyers is unable to manage a simple reservation system, nor do they care about customer service or basic hospitality...Or basic human decency for that matter... And yes, to boot, their food is crap... I'm sure this review will full upon deaf ears..They're a montauk hotspot and they appeal to the lowest common dominator..The concept of putting out good food, managing a reputable establishment or adhering to basic tenets of hospitality are clearly foreign to them.. I can only hope that this review is read by somebody who now decides to take their business elsewhere...And that I will have turned at least 1 person away from this terrible place read more

for four seasons prices, one expects much more than motel six amenities. the lodging experience leaves a lot to be desired while the young staff does its best, working under a mandate of limited resources. as such, staying at ruschmeyer's evokes a jekyll and hyde comparison: on one hand, most of the hotel staff are exceptionally nice and helpful while, on the other hand, the food and beverage staff are often borderline hostile with zero F's to give. likewise, the grounds upon which the cabins sit are lovely yet the decor and furnishings are far from the bohemian chic one would expect. instead, they're ikea-cheap, while the rooms, though clean, are damp and musty with a lingering smell of mildew. and, of course, there's the pricing: given that there's so little return for the investment, it really does feel like price-gouging. yes, you get a nice location with a mostly relaxed vibe but that's it. gone are the breakfasts that were once included with your stay, which consisted of freshly made avocado toast served with eggs, fresh fruit and a fresh pot of coffee; today, they've been replaced by orange juice served out of plastic one-gallon supermarket jugs and a couple of blueberries with chobani. gone too are the wooden beach chairs one could borrow, but at least they still offer free bikes to use... and some of them are still rideable. : ) and you can still watch a sunday night outdoor movie while you sip your $20 glass of costco rosé... beneath the charming string lights and those beautiful oak trees. i want to like ruschmeyer's. i've been here enough times to want it to be good again (i've stayed here four times in the last five years, including as recently as july 2017) but it's very clear that the hotel management doesn't really care if i like it or not. the business exists purely for the profits from the bar and weekend parties and that everything else, including the quality of the hotel service, is secondary to their priorities. if they offered more hospitality with a greater range of services, and a little less cynicism, and they combined that with the friendly staff members who still give a damn, then my friends and i would be back in a heartbeat. read more

I'm surprised by the other reviews, I had a great time here. I thought the crowd was super cool and a great mix and the music was fantastic and kept us dancing all night long. The outdoor area is like a childhood fantasy with all the lights going up the tree, beautiful! I would imagine staying as a hotel guest it could get pretty loud out there but I think that's all apart of it, don't stay unless you're down to groove basically. I really am into bars with different atmospheres, I love being able to travel from room to room and change up the scenes, that's exactly how it was. Bartenders were a little rude, and very hard to get their attention, but it was also extremely packed so I think they did what they could. read more

Assholes! Assholes everywhere! If we're being honest, this is about the bar experience... not the restaurant. I can't say anything about the restaurant because I've never been. But the chance of the owner also owning the bar is very high, so I am just going to go under the assumption that they are THE WORST. Let's explain my experience... I was with a group of 9, celebrating one of our friends birthday's. We arrived around 11:00pm and there wasn't much of a line. Except after waiting for 15 minutes without the line moving we were informed that they were at capacity and we could put our name in, go to the purgatory bar across the parking lot (bar, fire pits, ping pong tables.... seemed like a good time) and they would text us when space opened up. This seemed extremely reasonable and pretty enjoyable..... then we had to pee. Here are the steps you have to take if you are a female at this god forsaken hell hole (let's be honest, no gentleman is going to do this) . 1) go to the side of the dumpster behind the rope. 2) one at a time give your ID to the "bouncer." 3) wait in the bathroom line inside 4) come out and let the next person go..... here's a couple things wrong with this. The first being that the line outside the bar is long. Then, the person inside has to wait again in the next line. let's remember, it's one person from outside at a time. Therefore, you will be waiting for the bathroom the whole darn night. Also, please keep in mind that at this point Ruschmeyer's is still trying to suck your money away from you and have you drink/wait at the bar across the parking lot... which doesn't even have an out house. Just when you think you are about to explode from a full bladder, the "bouncer" will be giving you an attitude which will only make you angry because he is so incredibly idiotic. Let's also keep one more thing in mind... remember that whole "over capacity" bull they gave us... this does not apply if you roll in with a popped collar and salmon color shorts (I'm generalizing here because this seems to be the uniform with the d-bags that are friends with the employees). So all in all, they made you stand in a line/feed them money while making you uncomfortable and lying to your face. For the record, we never got a text saying we could come in... Long story short: if you're a d-bag with a bad attitude (aka friends with the people that work here)... enjoy! If you are not, then steer clear of this god forsaken douche haven. read more

Let me inform you about my Memorial Day weekend at Ruschmeyer's. Since it was Memorial Day weekend and we were late booking a room, we ended up paying $640 a night to stay at Ruschmeyer's. We booked a room with double beds. One bed was normal, while the other was a mattress on what looked to be 2x4s nailed together. Also, the minimalistic feel made it feel as though you are camping. The first night we asked if we could make reservations at the restaurant because we were hotel guests. The girl at the front desk said she couldn't make the reservation, so she had us call the restaurant with our cell phones. Little did we know, there was a hostess 10 feet away. However, they were not able to accommodate us. We had to wait until 11pm to get a table. The food was great, but the waiter spilling food all over my hand ruined the experience. Another waitress then persisted on charging my friend $18 for a glass of wine, when it was supposed to be $12. As you check in, they elaborate about the "free breakfast" served every morning. Their breakfast consists of Chobani yogurt, granola, and a few bakery items. On the second day the hostess said they ran out of food. There are only 18 rooms at the whole hotel and they still can't hold enough food for their meager breakfast. On our last day, we asked if they could hold our bags for the afternoon, so we could go to East Hampton. They gladly accepted our bags. However, when we arrived, we found all of our bags on the floor in the bar. One of the bags was opened. At this point, we grabbed our bags, and headed back to the city. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Stay somewhere like Solé. For the price you pay at least they have a swimming pool. The service is terrible. For the price you pay, you expect amenities and top notch service. I got a $22 hamburger which was over-cooked, a tiny hockey-puck on a gigantic bun. The fries were as bland as can be. The other dishes were just as bad. The restaurant is pretty good but the hotel is pretty terrible. Room we stayed in was almost $300 a night for what was basically a box with a bed in it. A bed just about the size of the room. A bathroom that one person could stand in at a time as long as you didn't move your arms. One light switch by the door for the one light in the box. Reading at night? Plan on getting up. No pull shade to block the sun in your eyes in the morning. Wifi doesn't work. A shower stall so small that bending to pick up soap or shampoo from the floor requires careful maneuvering since they didn't bother installing anything to place stuff on. Oh an we tried canceling once we saw what we were getting, they said sorry but we have a 48 hr policy. Had this been some economy hotel we'de be fine with all this. But youve got to be kidding. Fourth of July weekend ruined by Ruschmeyer's. I'm praying that this restaurant goes out of business by the time next summer rolls around. Not only is the service horrible, but the food is a disgrace. My seven girlfriends and I decided to reserve a table a month in advance for dinner over July 4th weekend with 9:30 PM being the only available time. One full week later, we were told over email that we have no choice but to follow a pre-fix menu; this $95 forced pre-fix menu was sent as an attachment in this email from the restaurant manager (this did not include any drinks, just three courses). When I shared the limited menu with my group of seven, we thought it might be best to cancel our reservation and go somewhere where we had a full menu of options. We were then advised that if we cancel, we would be charged a $300 cancellation fee and thus had to keep the reservation. When arriving to the restaurant, we were seated in a table meant for 6, when were actually 8, and had to uncomfortably squeeze in order to fit at the table. We were then shown a menu that was entirely different from what was emailed to us and was in fact much smaller giving us no alternatives. We would be served kale salad & burrata for appetizers, pizzas for the second course, and fish-only entrees. Meanwhile, we had one person with dairy and gluten allergies and one with an intolerance to fish at our party, giving those attendees no options for dinner. Our waitress was pleasant and worked some magic to get the fish intolerant girl in my party the steak entree from the original menu we were given from the email. Unfortunately this steak tasted like eating salt mixed with hard ketchup. For the other girl in our party who was gluten-free and dairy-free, the only option she had was kale salad as her appetizer and another salad as her entree, nothing else while the rest of us were eating the pizzas and burrata. We ended our meal with some freezing cold bread pudding, if that's what they'd like to call it. I would rather call it a cold block of soft bread with some blueberries added in to make it look pretty. Let's discuss the terrible bathroom situation. One girl in my party made the bold decision to use the restroom right after our second course, the pizza, came to our table. (Side note- the pizza was the only tasty food item we had, but then again, how can a restaurant mess a pizza up?) She waited on this two-stall bathroom line for longer than 45 minutes. This small bathroom is a huge problem for the restaurant, since the people on the bathroom line is a mix of the bar-goers and restaurant-goers. How does a huge restaurant/bar have only two toilets for women? I feel like the bathroom line taking up the entire length of the bar alone must be something illegal, but what do I know. By the time she got back to our table, 45 minutes later, we were still sitting in front of the pizzas that we finished 40 minutes prior. The service was pretty much laughable. This three hour dinner ended up being $166 per person, which included a drink for each person and a tip for our waitress who was clearly being overworked that night, handling too many tables. To say that Ruschmeyer's is a disaster of a restaurant is an understatement. Please, get out of business! read more

This place is absolute garbage. We came here on a whim thinking it looked like fun, we were actually treated like trash. The hostess, who was absolutely horrible and rude, used the wording "sorry honey, I'm done repeating myself, we don't have room". One star is generous. Rushmeyer's has gone WAY down hill in the past few years. First off, they are ridiculous about letting people in. Over 4th of July weekend they kept people waiting in line for well over 1.5 hours when the place was half empty. Second, they wouldn't let us expand our dinner reservation although 1/3 of the tables in the dining room were not filled and did not fill up throughout the evening. Thirdly, the employees are on an INSANE power trip. They have bouncers throwing people out, people getting scolded and yelled at, as well as having an extremely rude and poorly trained hostess. Lastly, for a pre-fixed menu for $95 a person - the food is a joke. Grey Lady and lots of other MTK spots put Rush to shame and you can actually have a good time at these other spots. read more

Not sure why there are so many bad reviews. We just had a lovely meal! The hostesses greeted us pleasantly and our waitress Melanie was attentive and helpful. We enjoyed the salad, and the pea crustini, as well as the flounder and extra side of asparagus. For dessert we shared the s'mores sundae which was yummy with a side of warm chocolate sauce. My time at Ruschmeyers was uh...interesting. We walked in to check in with the hostess, who was basically a cyborg. She was very awkward and made us feel uncomfortable. She just stared at us and hoped we could read her mind. When we understood it was time to sit down, a waitress aggressively demanded our drink orders. The waitress did not inform us that there were no frozen drinks until after we tried to order them. She kept running away from us well. A random Male server delivered all the food. The calamari was good, but the serving size was small. The clam pizza was good but someone other than our waitress delivered it. The chicken salad was yummy, the lobster roll was good but extremely overpriced and the chicken was messy and no wet naps were provided. For dessert, there were two options. Our waitress could not decide which one she liked more or could not recommend one to us, so we got a mysterious cake with blackberries. It was good, but nobody sang happy birthday to the person in my party whose birthday it was. The dessert was $14 for a small sliver of cake. The final bill Cost more than my monthly credit card statement. Tip was included at 20 percent which was ridiculous considering we never saw her after she took our order. When it was time to leave, the cyborg hostess asked my friend if it was actually her birthday, while she was wearing a birthday sash and crown. She bought us a round of drinks, but the fireball we took was fake. Overall, this was a strange but delicious time for my friends and me. It was overpriced but I wouldn't rule out coming back. I went to a large group dinner here on a summer Saturday night. The service was terribly slow - dinner took nearly 4 hours (and was outrageously expensive for bar food). When it came time to pay the bill, four of us gave credit cards and the rest of our table paid cash. I personally handed the waitress my card. The waitress came back a few minutes later and seemed very confused. Somehow, in the 20 foot walk from our table to the credit card machine, she managed to lose my card and wasn't sure how. I spoke to the manager, had the staff look for my card, to no avail. I'm incredulous how a card simply goes missing in such a short time and in such a short distance. My husband and I went here last Saturday night and had a terrific time. We were a bit worried that it would be an annoying scene and that the people working there would have an attitude. We couldn't have been more wrong! We walked in without a reservation at 8:00 and they were very accommodating and seated us right away. The restaurant was really cute and the service couldn't have been better. But most importantly, the food was absolutely delicious. We had a seasonal bean salad, the clam pizza, the burger, and the tilefish. All were good but the clam pizza was particularly special. Don't even bother. Waited an hour to be seated for our reservation. Then the food came out freezing cold and inedible. Two pieces of lettuce in a $19 caesar salad, disgusting cold margarita pizza, barely warm truffle fries, and partially inedible burrata. We sent back the pizza to ask for a hot one and it came back again cold. We sat for 2-3 hours waiting for food and drink. Crowds and crowds of people gathered at the hostess stand all waiting for their reservations. We arrived at Ruschmeyer's around 9 on Saturday night without a reservation. The backyard dining area was fairly empty but we waited an hour for a table. The tables are picnic benches and there ended up being 9 of us (2 arrived late and asked to join us to eat). They refused to accommodate us, refused to allow us to 'squish' and refused to bring a chair to the end of the table. Strike one. So, on principle, some of us decided not to eat. 4 of us sat down and ordered. 3 lobster rolls and 1 bacon cheeseburger. Pretty simple, one would think. 3 lobster rolls arrived in about 20 minutes but no burger. Turns out the waiter forgot to put it in. Another 30 minutes later, the burger arrived -- raw. No one showed up to send it back so she ate the cooked edges. Then, we tried to order the salted caramel ice cream. Another 30 minute wait until we find out that they don't have it. Ridiculous. At that point, we were frustrated and asked for some kind of restitution - maybe a round of drinks to compensate for what we'd gone thru. We were told ' we don't do that here.' They offered no remedy. Finally, they said they would put our name down to fast track the line for the bar later. walked in at 9pm without reservations and seated immediately. i would say it was the worst, but the surf lodge gets that title. the waiter didn't say one word to us, nothing. appeared with pad and pen and just looked at us. he was clearly not interested in being there. we ordered the kale caesar salad, tuna with watermelon and cucumbers, rigatoni, corn on the cobb and a lobster roll. nearly all of it was inedible. the tuna was too spicy, the lobster roll was laughable, every roll i eat is always briming with lobster, this was over stirred, may two tablespoons on the roll with micro greens placed on top to divert you from seeing there was no lobster and served with a side salad. the kale salad had little to no dressing. the pecorino cheese was tasteless. the rigatoni was very al dente which i could live with. but all was unmemorable and disappointing. oh wait and one ear of corn for $8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that's just nuts. you can do better. read more

I've never complained about the price of a restaurant in my life. I go out for dinner in Manhattan all the time. This place is a first. The prices at this restaurant are offensive. For 5 adults and 8 children, we ordered a few small individual pizza pies and burgers and a couple of drinks, and some of us shared meals because we weren't hungry, and the bill came to over $700. There is a reason this place was so empty during a holiday week. They are committing highway robbery, taking advantage of tourists. Just wishing I could get my money back. read more

Literally the worst place. The drinks are watered down, the bartenders are horrible (at least the bar on the dance floor) and its way too over crowded. My advice: dont go! read more

Slowest service ever. Waited online for over an hour while the guys lied about how long the lines take. Totally overrated inside. Ew.

This place does not obey the law. If you need to use the restroom, they will either make you wait in a 50 min line to get back in or accept bribes to let you be able to be in the place of establishment that you already paid for to be in. Lawsuit waiting to happen. read more

Good drinks. Just disappointed because they promised us pizza and the empty bottle of alcohol that we finished. And they kicked us out because they said we couldn't order pizza or take the bottle. I've never been to a soup kitchen, but I imagine the experience there would far surpass the one at Ruschmeyer's on all accounts. My experience at Ruschmeyer's was so unfortunate, that it has finally driven me to open a yelp account. Yes, this is my first review. In summary: Food: Unacceptable (... for prison) Service: Insulting (are we being pranked?) As part of a large group dining at Ruschmeyer's, I was really looking forward to a fantastic evening. Not only was I disappointed by the food, but moreover insulted by the service. Except for the dessert, none of the food had any redeeming qualities. We had a couscous, which had little cubes of tomato and cucumber, that was not just underseasoned--there was absolutely no seasoning--not even salt. On the other hand, the penne pasta was 2 minutes short of al-dente, floating in a vinegar type juice (I would say sauce, but it was too thin to be a sauce) and topped with a crumble of what a recent college grad described as easy mac powder. Part of me felt like this was a top chef quickfire challenge gone horribly wrong. But it wasn't. This was supposedly an excellent restaurant. How could things go so awry? How can the entire meal have not one redeeming flavor? I was mostly just surprised at how poor the food was. On top of that, the wait was not a plus. I imagined how torturous it would be for someone on a bad date... painfully enduring the endless awkward silences between each course. The cherry on all of this was that the waitstaff never interacted with us to ask us how our meal was. They seemed annoyed every time they dropped the food on the table. (I have many friends who work in the service industry so I always go out of my way to be warm and appreciative.) And when we finally went over to talk to the manager because we'd been waiting for our desert for over 45 minutes (it was not a souffle), he looked up from his table where he was lounging and enjoying his dinner, and said 'Yeah, okay'. I almost felt like they didn't really want any of the diners to be there so they actively tried to give them a miserable experience. I've heard good things about this place in years past, but it has apparently changed for the worst. I hope to save some other hopeful diners from a ruined evening. read more

I love that it's finally summertime and that means I need to perfect my tan at the beach. This was a stop on the way one night this past weekend. I don't even think we realized that it was brand new at first considering we had been drinking for a while. It's a huge resto/lounge/bar/outdoor spot complete with sand and picnic tables. There was a band playing outside which was pretty cute. The crowd was eclectic. I would go back and spend some more time here next time. read more
