Mmmm great pizza! While I stood at the counter looking at the trays upon trays of any kind of pizza I could imagine, I found myself wondering, "is this what heaven looks like?" I ended up checking out my favorite pepperoni slice of course and it was wonderful. The crust had just right amount of crispness and doughy on the end. The pepperoni definitely had some pep and they were generous with the cheese. I'm also a sucker for buffalo chicken and their buffalo chicken pizza was loaded with plenty of chicken and buffalo sauce. It also was loaded with cheese. Today I lost my license. It was a big bummer. I went back along Manhattan Ave to retrace my steps and stopped into a bunch of stores and restaurants asking if anyone had turned it in to them, which is why I went into Russ Pizza. The guys at the counter were incredibly nice and one said, "Okay, love, write down your name and number and we'll let you know if someone turns it in." It felt like I wandered into a sweet small town pizza shop--and it smelled delicious! About 10 minutes later I found my license at the bank (yaaayyyy!!!) and I was still thinking about how nice the guys at Russ Pizza had been and how much I wanted a slice! So, I went back to tell them the good news about my card (they cheered!) and to get a cheese slice to go ($3). The slice was wrapped in a wax paper bag and paper plate, so was it in good shape when I ate it later while waiting for the train. The crust was amazing; just the right mix of crispness on bottom (no cornmeal) and chewiness. But the best part was the sauce. Perfect amount, perfect flavor. When I imagine my ideal slice, this is it. I know everyone's crazy about Di Fara's, but honestly, this slice is better. Five stars!! read more

Ok...first and foremost, I am not trying to knock anyones personal experience at Russ Pizza nor am I trying to discredit it...but some people need to chill the fuck out. Going on yelp and making comments about the staff or calling the delivery boys "crack addicts" or "homeless" is simply ridiculous. Born, raised, and still living in Greenpoint, I have been going to Russ forever and have never had a bad experience. NATIVE greenpointers love Russ & everybody at Russ. While everyone is entitled to their own opinion...calling people homeless, crack heads, etc is fucking ridiculous and you should be ashamed of yourself (asshole somewhere below...yea, you..."Charlie"). Okay, gotta say this is a relative thing; in, say, Bay Ridge, Russ would probably be looking at 2 stars. But we take what we can get in Little Warsaw, and when that's good, reliable NYC slices and fast delivery, everyone's happy. I actually started going to Russ because a guy I met on line at DiFara said it was 'actually excellent, by Brooklyn standards' - and I figured he knew his pizza! (The fact that he then asked me to take off my glasses to see if my eyes 'were as beautiful as they looked' soon thereafter does not reflect on this recommendation. And hey, we'd been waiting a long time.) But, yeah: fresh, tasty, solid. Ruzz Pizza has the best lasagna in Brooklyn. I also enjoy his pizza sauce, when I get a reg. slice I ask for xtra sauce. I have been in fancy Italian restaurants, but Ruzz is the one that no one can beat on the sauce taste. Edit: So...girlfriend and I recently ordered pasta dishes from them again....was not like last time. Suddenly it was just you're regular, everyday, pizzeria sauce. Maybe we got lucky the first time? -1 star, My absolute favorite pizza joint in Brooklyn. I love the staff there. They're all friendly and efficient. Russ' has the best sauce. Ever. They are fairly priced and my absolute favorite pizza is their spicy buffalo chicken pizza. Very large and filling. So worth the 18 bucks. They're pepperoni and cheese sandwich is like a large closed pizza. It's great! Their pastas? Fantastic!! Their marinara sauce is great and tasted just like you made it at home (I live with old italian ladies!). My favorite is just the spaghetti with marinara and chicken cutlet topped with cheese! Seriously. A person could die with that meal and be happy. I have only tried the spaghetti and the meat sauce both of which had such different tastes. SO good. They go heavy on garlic here which is awesome! Not so much for the anti-garlic people, but great for me! read more

So pleasantly surprised by Russ Pizza!! We ordered a medium pepperoni pizza for delivery for 2 people, and not only was it not crazy expensive like so many places have unjustifiably become, but it was DELICIOUS. We planned to eat one slice each and save the rest, but that obviously didn't happen. We had two slices left over, ate them for breakfast the next day. Also ordered a hero for lunch the next day, and instead of guessing what my online order meant, I got a call from the restaurant to confirm they got what I wanted right. THUMBS UP FOR SERVICE. Honestly, there are lots of pizza places in NYC and it's hard to know which are good and which are an embarrassment to society. Russ is so damn good it's not even fair. I almost don't want them to start making all those Buzzfeed/Thrillist/Eater lists so I can devour all that pizza myself... but I want them to be successful because it's so well-deserved. Pretty disappointed with my order. I love Russ but idk what's happened. I couldn't even pick up a slice of pizza without the cheese and pepperoni oozing completely off. The calzone was disappointing.. drenched in oil and they couldn't even give me a side of marinara sauce for it.. beef patty w cheese was extra cooked but good. Ok so this place is ran by a Dysfunctional family type. Always arguing inside and just really gross on the cleanliness. Last time I was in there I asked for Parmesan for my pizza. Don't recommend dine-in, but delivery at its best. Pizza always arrives hot and stable (no cheese sliding here). Excellent plain pizza, and pepperoni pinwheels are pretty good too! Maybe it was my imagination, but every time i looked at the pizza from Russ's, I felt warm inside. They are never stingy on their toppings, never. A good - old mushroom pie has more mushroom then the stars in the sky, tasty too! their pin wheels are especially yum, even though they tend to disappear fairly quick if you were unlucky. Kinda like a hole in the wall, long narrow sitting area at the back, pasta dishes are not as great but well, we are here for pizza and rolls eh? decent price and decent speed delivery depends on how busy they are. I eat here about one a week and enjoy their pizza. I always accompany my slice with some garlic knots and Diet Coke. They have about ten variety of pizzas. I love my pepperoni but if you like Hawaiian, mushroom and sausage, you'll be happy here. I saw the other day that they had a ziti pizza. Scheduled order....ignored....phone calls, ignored....terrible customer service when I called 4 times and was told several times that it was 5 mins out--took another 45 mins. That was false. Walking in the place with my friend they automatically took her order and then the guy went back to making a new pizza without even offering me if id like anything also then 5 other people walked in while what seemed to be the owner was yelling across the restaurant and banging on tables yelling obscenities in italian. I asked for four slices and in the process of ordering the 4 different slices the owner was like "i dont understand what u are saying" and then after the lack of attention i paid $20 for 4 slices and a snapple. I could have gone to any dollar pizza and gotten better service than i got here.... Do not order pizza from this place. They are thieves. I ordered from them twice and was charged for items that I had ordered and got different items that were less than what I originally paid for. They did not brother to contact me about it and wasn't going to giving back my money for the remaining amount they owe me for giving me an item that was less than what I paid for. I contacted grubhub about that issue, and they know that they are also thieves. Don't order from this crappy place. I plan on contacting the BBB to report them. They are scammers at the end of the day. They don't about their customers and just would tell you false prices, just for you pay more than what you should. I remember contacting then to comfort what they did, and I was yelled at and told "I should be happy that I even got the pizza, and I'm being ungrateful." But 1. they only had plain slices when I came in, which struck me as odd, and 2. the guy behind the counter blatantly and creepily came on to me. great pies delivered, or by the slice if you don't mind the wait. here's how good the spicy buffalo chicken pizza was that we ordered last night: 1. the delivery guy kept going on about how it smelled so good he almost stole a slice 2. it was so heavy with delicious, quality chicken that our kitchen table wobbled when i set it down 3. upon opening the box, we actually had to take a picture of it cuz it was just perfect 4. i moaned throughout whilst eating my first slice 5. i forced myself to have a second slice even thought the first one filled me up completely 6. my friend commented, "getting this pizza is quite possibly the smartest decision we've ever made" the quality and quantity of the toppings is what makes russ' pizzas so addictive. highly recommended for take-out or delivery... the restaurant itself is your typical crowded, fluorescent-lit pizza joint. read more

I just learned that the owners changed and that they're skimping on portions, which, explains my frustration. The issue was that it wasn't just one thing. Here are the frustrations (if only for me to vent): 1. The chicken parmesan plate was half the size it normally is * I've ordered this dish at least 50 times,as I've lived right near Russ's for about 5 years. 2. The Chicken parmesan didn't have any sauce. 3. I asked for a salad instead of ziti or spaghetti and they said that is a completely separate dish, and therefore, an additional and separate price. They then agreed to give me the deal and include it with the chicken parm itself. well, they charged me $12 instead of the normal price of $11. ok, whatever. 4. I asked for caesar dressing on the side of my salad. They gave me ranch. So I called, got annoyed, probably yelled a bit too much after explaining myself calmly and being dismissed, and it ended with me realizing after i hung up initially that the chicken parm didn't even have sauce. I called back. The guy flipped out about me being upset,and said, "Il hook you up the next time you're in, ok?!" I didn't want to be hooked up, i just wanted a chicken parm dinner tonight, not some other time after being cursed off. Russ is consistently good. Their pizza is classic NY style, and their parm hero's are also cheesy and delicious. The cheese isn't the most flavorful in the world, but there's a lot of it, and they get the toasting on the hero bread just right--a little crunchy without being burnt. The delivery is usually about 30 minutes, and the guys are always friendly and courteous (say "hello, enjoy, thanks"--you know, they act like real people doing a job instead of some asshole who can only just barely be bothered to bring the food to your door). Russ is good take-out italian, nothing too fancy, and I like it best because of the consistency--you know what you're getting, it's not a crapshoot or "depends on the day" kinda place. read more

That review down there about insects scares me but my experience was fairly ok. I went there with friends after a long walk from long island city to greenpoint. I shared a philly cheesesteak with a friend while another had a baked ziti. The philly cheesesteak was fairly ok, but nothing spectacular. I don't think I'll be returning but its a good choice for something cheap. Wait time was terribly long for the food unfortunately. Waiting so long was not worth it. read more
