* I was a customer of Russ Pizzeria for over 25 years when Russ was the original owner @ 745 Manhattan Ave located between Norman and Meserole Avenues. There deliveries are two hours or greater. They are rude over the phone when you inquire about the deliveries it left when in fact they forgot to make it or it sitting above the oven waiting for someone to deliver it. Some of the people don't speak ENGLISH. The delivery is cold or wrong. When you speak to SAL he gets angry which means POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. In the pizzeria they insult you; they have children running in and out of the kitchen. It is Very loud noisy including SUNDAY. At any given time there is beer being consumed by the employ's. They use frozen items like there mozzarella sticks or meatballs. When you request a roll made fresh Hector states it was prepared @ 11 AM and you are there at 5 PM the answer is NO. What they don't sell gets held over for sale the next day. They need to be a bit cleaner. Did I mention the owner of Tony's with several employs that left Russ. When Tony's opened there were faces that once worked at Russ. Now at Tony's they are on point with deliveries under an hour. Food is FRESH they make everything on site even there mozzarella sticks. You can customize any dish. They will make fresh rolls your way even if they are closing. Customer service is the way I remembered when the owner was behind the counter at Russ. They are very clean including the restroom. They have music for your dinning pleasure. Eating there is a pleasure no one insults you. There is no yelling between management and the staff. The owner makes deliveries to avoid the two hour wait. They have a large selection of beverages to choose from including the Mexican Coca Cola Soda's. We are regular customers and would recommend this place to anyone who a traditional pizzeria for their family. They also have specials for the children after school. They were open all night during the Diamond Street fire feeding the displaced and first responders on Valentine's Day 2016.Would Sal do the same if a displaced families on Manhattan Avenue? They are very dirty, dirty, dirty. They have workers who drink but the delivery personal drink and drive. They arrive at your door drunk that's why deliveries are two hours late or wrong. Robin great you called them out RUDE AND DIRTY. I am a resident of Greenpoint and what a same to see Russ Pizza going down hill. When ANTHONY AND FREDDY were there they made everything fresh. You were able to get any roll made fresh any time of the day. THEY STARTED TONY'S OF NASSAU AVENUE BETWEEN DIAMOND AND JEWEL STREETS 718-349-3330. Hector is like a robot afraid to try something different. They make the rolls @ 11AM and if you were to walk in and request a fresh one the answer is NO!. You are right Sal even hold old pizza for tomorrow to sell. Sal try's to save money that's why on garbage night you see boxes for MEATBALLS,CHICKEN,VEAL,SHRIMP,EGGPLANT,SAUSAGE,PEPPERSTEAK ALL FROZEN NOTHING FRESH! As a Catholic Priest who grow up in the neighborhood I returned to a pizzeria that I loved as a child. So I ordered several pies and tray's of food for a church event. When we served the food and slices the people complained about the quality. One member told me I made a mistake and the food should have been order from TONY'S OF NASSUA AVENUE. When I called Russ Hector answered and told me to bring everything back. Once I did Hector told me that there was nothing wrong with the food and there was a no refund policy. Any one ordering pizza or trays for a school, corporate, church or other event I suggest to not order from Russ but order from TONY'S OF NASSUA AVENUE LOCATED @ 175 NASSAU AVENUE BETWEEN DIAMOND AND JEWEL STREET. If a homless shelter made pizza it'd be call Russ Pizza. The staff are rude and filthy. The homless / crack addicts / delivery guys are disgusting. I witnessed the tall puerto rican delivery guy actually spit on someones pizza as he waited for the customer to come to door. Not to mention the fact that they were given a "C" grade, one of like 2 given in the entire Greenpoint / Williamsburg area. Used to like these guys. Then I learned they were assholes. An elderly women was in need outside Russ's door. She was probably drunk in the old Greenpoint way, but also helpless. She wasn't hurting anyone. As sociopathic millennials took videos of her crouched and crying on the curb, I blanched. Finally, a group pulled her up to go home...but it was the guy from Ross who threw this old woman into oncoming traffic and told her to figure out her way home that made me say never again to yes to Russ. read more
