The grilled cheese is one of the best I've ever had! I did build your own- whole grain sourdough, 3 different cheeses, pickles, it was so good. If I had room, I'd order another. My mom got the hot turkey sandwich and she said it was delicious. My dad got the blue cheese burger (crumbles and dressing) and he said it was very good. We also got the Carmel Apple pie and the Apple dumpling - 10/10. It was so delicious. Our server, Elizabeth was super nice and attentive as well. Good ambiance with quiet music. Not as good as it used to be. The food has definitely declined in quality while prices have soared in the past two years. They substantially jack up the prices every few months. This wouldn't be quite so bad if the food tasted better, but it's gotten worse. And they supposedly have curbside service. I followed the instructions they gave me--You order online and phone once you get to the restaurant to have bring the food out to your car. Only I tried this and they told me to come INSIDE to get my order. That is not curbside! Don't advertise it if you don't do it. Another time my pickles tasted odd, and the manager told me that sometimes they leave them sitting outside the fridge too long. That's just gross and not something you should admit to a customer. (I did get a refund even though I didn't request it.) I loved Russ' as a child and still have fond memories so it gets 3 stars for the moment. read more

I don't know why I love it, but I love Russ'. My grandparents live in Muskegon and whenever I visit them, they take me to Russ' ... so it might just be some sort of nostalgia effect that fills my mind with warm fuzzies. Honestly, the food isn't anything amazing, but it's just kind of a fun place. I 'm not sure if they have it anymore, but they used to have "phone in" dining where you would go into the dining room and order your meal over the phone in your booth. I guess it was a way to stick it to the man. No waitress, you don't come to me, I come to you. Over phone. But I'm still coming to the restaurant, not going to call from my house.. Anyway, my I always get the cheese sticks and a grilled cheese (what I've gotten since I was 5, and I should probably consider switching it up for the sake of my life and gut) and my mother swears by the Mini Gourmet salad (I think it's just a glorified cobb salad with croutons). Expect a lot of blue hairs, pie, and locals. read more

I travel around the Muskegon/Grand Haven/Grand Rapids area fo my job every day. I wanted something more "substantial" than the typical sandwich. So, being familiar with Russ', I stopped in. Sat at the counter and Lori took care of me. She has been there 30 years and I can see why. What an excellent, attentive sever! She was very friendly as well. Being alone, she made me not feel lonely. It is rare that a restaurant has even a 20 year employee let alone 30 years. The food was good and served hot. The coffee is "baby boomer" smooth, and if you are in your 50's or younger, you'll most probably be the "kid" there. But hey, if "seasoned" citizens and police frequent the place, it has to be good and a good deal. As a bonus you're most likely not going to have screaming kids around. I'd give 5 stars because of the limited choices on the menu. Carrot cake is really good (Lori recommended). Thanks Lori. See you again! read more

i've always liked this resurant ,,but with covid i now order all takeout...usually i been getting chicken "strips" dinners takeout..but today the order looks totally differnt chicken....no longer the chicken strips but now toatlly cooked different ..like ...chicken "chunks" where did the strips go????? they are tough and taste different.....one more chance russ....bribg back the chicken "strips"......or no more russ: for me!!! read more

I love Russ'. Dining here brings back childhood memories. We like to sit on the phone side and order the soup and salad bar with a baked potato. They're prices are low, the service is fast and the food is yummy. The quiet, older dining atmosphere makes having a conversation effortless, without too many interruptions. I do wish the waitress would have asked how we liked the food after putting it down. Also someone should have told us where to get water, rather than assuming we knew. But other than those minor things I only just noticed on my last visit, they are a great spot for a good family meal. read more

This place is always great if you want a meal that tastes home cooked. I pretty much always get the fried chicken w/ scalloped potatoes and it's always great. It's like someone's grandma's chicken not the crap you get at KFC. They have one side that's like a traditional restaurant and one that's called tell-dine. The tele-dine side has phones at each table and you just pick it up and place your order. Kinda neat and weird at the same time lol. read more

The onion rings were awesome. My coworkers went mostly with burgers I had a hot meatloaf and one of my coworkers had the hot turkey sandwich. The place definitely caters to the older crowd but serves solid food. The hot meatloaf was tasty with a nice brown gravy. I ordered breakfast the other day because we had a power outage. My two eggs, prepared over easy were cooked perfectly. The hash browns just right and bacon was meaty with little fat. My toast came with homemade strawberry jam and was delicious. I wish I took a picture! I noticed that this location on Henry Street always has friendly staff and the service is efficient. Best onion rings in the world, hands-down. I keep hoping to find rings that are even close to as awesome as these, but it can't be done. When they're dipped in Russ' homemade ranch dressing, it's almost like some kind of religious experience. The food is just simple and classic like it's been done for decades. Don't be put off by the age of their average customers (somewhere in their 60s, I'm thinking). If you have room for dessert, try the peanut butter pie! read more

We visited this place after our recent trip to Michigan's Adventure. We did not want to eat in the park because it's crap food and so expensive and so did a search on our GPS and found this place. I had never heard of Russ's, we don't have them where I live, but from the get go I was very impressed! The outside is neat and clean and the parking lot was full (always a good sign!) Once inside I loved the pretty, comfortable design, beautiful stained glass windows and photos/hangings all over, just very cozy (as in feeling, not size, it's a large place!) it felt great to be there and it smelled delicious! We were greeted by a very friendly hostess and had a nice table for our family of five. Our waitress was so sweet and nice, she was very attentive to us which was greatly appreciated! I ordered the chicken dinner and it was a great deal at just under $9, you get 3 pieces of fried chicken, a huge wonderful roll and 2 sides. My husband got the fish and chips and my older daughter got the grilled ham and cheese. They said theirs was great too. My little ones got the mac and cheese off the kids menu and they were so happy and calm the whole time, which was wonderful. For dessert I got the peanut butter cream pie, which was awesome! I think we paid like $40 something for all 5 of us to eat, which is a good deal for us, for a sit down dinner. It would have been a lot more at M.A. and the food would have been horrible. I will absolutely go back to Russ's next time we are in the area. The ONLY suggestion I could make is that they offer an all day breakfast option, but other than that it was wonderful!!! read more

Best breakfast in town! They make their own bread and it tastes wonderful! Try the English muffin bread.
