Short stack pancakes breakfast sanswich with hash browns
    William L.

Russell's has become a Lakeview institution. The decor remains firmly rooted in the 1980s. a time when I lived down the street and was happy to see a Camellia Grill inspired eatery open five doors down. (My old shotgun apartment was sold and torn down to make way for another high-rise Tower that was never built and now there's a big grassy field where my place used to be). My memory is that Russell started with more conventional diner menu, but his since specialized in a New Orleans way. A large variety of egg benedict options now headlines the menu. There are also some creative omelets, including one with fried oysters and remoulade sauce. I was going to get one of those but I kept seeing these delightful fluffy looking pancakes coming out of the kitchen. I opted instead for a short stack and a breakfast sandwich. The pancakes were perfect, tasting is good as they looked. The breakfast sandwich was on grilled bread like a panini with egg and bacon. Tasty. Hash browns or small nuggets of potato, not the best but preferable to the shredded potato hash browns at say Waffle House. Coffee with hot fresh and refilled frequently. Sitting at the bar, I was across from the fresh orange juice station. After staring at a pitcher of fresh weezed orange juice as I ate, I had to get some. That was great, and the generous portion wasn't served in a thimble-sized glass. The atmosphere is loud and convivial. On a Saturday morning is mostly locals. Special mention for the friendly service. The wait staff work together and seem like long timers. They recognize the number of customers as regulars as they came in. That's the kind of atmosphere you can't make up or buy from Sysco. Five stars, because diners like this are getting harder to find in Russell's distinguishes itself with some truly unique dishes.

This was my second time visiting Russell's, and it was just as fantastic as the last time! My boyfriend ordered an omelette that was stuffed with fried oysters and had a type of Cajun remoulade on top. I had barbecued shrimp and grits that were phenomenal. Servings are pretty large so I was able to take half of my breakfast home. We also ordered sweet potato beignets for the table. The beignets are more like pancake crossed with a cake doughnut versus a beignet, but still really good. We also had a couple bloody Mary's and of course, some coffee. Can't wait for the next visit!

This is hidden gem! Yet, it answers the question of the blooming onion appetizer at the restaurant we all been going for years. I was talking to someone about this. He mentioned that the original version was made here. I was like, "you sure?" He did some research and link me YouTube video about it too. I was not the only one who thought about it too. Being a blooming onion fan. I had to experience it for myself! Road trip! I have not been in this part of crescent city in years. Forgive me for my rating. Not fault on them. It was a bit of a challenge to get here. This place is usually open early in the day. Mainly catering to breakfast and lunch. Please refer to the website for details. Marina is nearby. Just not next to it due to the levy? Just conveniently across the street. When we arrived for lunch. This restaurant is very crowded. The other restaurants next door are also. We luck out and got spot. And noticed few people were leaving as we were walking up to the door. Few parking spots opened up. They do have a nice outdoor covered patio with heaters and fans. Recommend taking advantage of the outdoor patio when the weather permits. If you are unable to snag a table to seat. I believe you can get it to go? Please call ahead or just ask. As you walk in. Great little diner atmosphere. Gives you the sense of that local diner. The hostess gladly offered us a table just opened up. To the right you have small counter and few booths. The left has more room for booths and tables. The table seating is comfortable with wooden the bottom and metal back. If you would like more padding. The booth offers plenty of padding. More comfortable if you like. We started out with the original Onion Mumm. Deep fried onion with lightly seasoned, served with rosette sauce. I assume that it closely resembles remoulade? Remoulade sauce is a mayonnaise-based condiment that originated in French cuisine and was later adapted in Louisiana. Please let me know of you think otherwise. We had to get it! It was delicious! Not as thick or heavily seasoned like the other ones. Not as intense. In my opinion. Next we got the bacon cheeseburger. (HAMBURGERS ARE 1/2 LB AND ARE MADE IN HOUSE USING FRESH GROUND CHUCK SERVED WITH MAYO, LETTUCE, TOMATO, SLICED RED ONIONS, PICKLES AND FRENCH FRIES) with an ice water. Waffle Bananas Foster (Classic Bananas Foster atop a waffle, served with French Vanilla ice cream)With a sweet tea of course. Lastly, an order of beignet balls ( 5 beignet balls deep fried and lightly coated with powdered sugar and syrup) regular unsweetened ice tea. New to the menu. All the dishes are freshly made from scratch. Tea is fresh brewed. It can be a bit crowded. However, if you time it right. Might experience some delicious food. If you wish to wet your whistle. They provide mixed drinks and few beer options. Drink responsibly. Few things I noticed about it. They are heavily crowded during lunch time but quickly disappears. The also serve fresh made thick cut onions rings. They are not on the menu. For you onion fans. Finally, we can close the chapter on the blooming onion story. Amazing atmosphere and especially delicious food! They do offer free Wi-Fi for customers and military discount with valid ID. They also provide a less expensive option of you are paying cash instead. I assume that way both you and the merchant do not have to pay a credit card processing fee. That is why? Definitely stop by of your in the area or nearby.

    BBQ Shrimp (breakfast)

This place takes you back in time with a the old neighborhood feel where regulars are always in the room. It's a busy family friendly place where the staff work together to ensure customers are always attended to with a helpful smile. We ordered a breakfast platter, crab cakes, and bbq shrimp....this was at 9:30am. First this BBQ shrimp is not a lunch or dinner entree...it's really a shrimp and grits dish but it is so flavorful. It has 2 poached eggs smothered in the grits which takes this dish to another level with the grilled biscuits. The crab cakes were delicious and what sets this apart is the andouille that is inside the cake...which dips perfectly with the come back sauce. Chose scrambled eggs with cheese with the breakfast platter but what really made this dish good was the grilled ham steak that came with it. One speciality drink we got was the Cold Brew Irish Coffee with was over the top with goodness. Overall a solid place for breakfast, lunch or dinner! Go give them a shot at taking care of your tastebuds!

This Marina Grill is a must. They close around 3pm but all the goodness is packed very well in the short time they are opened. I had a Simno, which is a grilled chicken sandwich with pesto sauce and tomato on a panini. This chicken was seasoned. Not the generic seasoning but very well seasoned AND it was juicy. Now the pancakes cover a dinner plate. Yes, dinner plate not a saucer. Needless to say it was very filling. The atmosphere was relaxing to me. Everyone was nice and very appreciative for the business. I cannot wait to go back again and try in the Bloody Mary.

Food was great. Service was good. Vibe is noisey but you can still have a convo. Always a pleasure eating here. No complaints.

    Lemon meringue pie.
    Dana M.

The Saturday fried chicken special is amazing. Crispy chicken, gumbo or salad, dessert. Huge portion for the price. Not a fan of the lemon meringue pie. It looks high in the dessert case but is non existent and rubbery in real life. It's like a bite of sweetened condensed milk. The photo is after one bite.

My meal here was great! I had the grilled chicken and pesto melt (samno melt) and it was tasty and fresh. The fruit that it came with was great as well, nice fresh fruit. I ate everything and enjoyed it. Our service was good and we enjoyed the outside patio to eat our meal. Will go back.

One of my favorite breakfast spots. Great service, consistently good food, always prompt bringing out food after you order. Definitely one of my staple breakfast spots.

    Eggs Lafitte
    Brandi W.

I was looking for a breakfast spot on a Monday closer to noon, and I knew Russell's would fit the bill. It's typically a busy spot, but we were seated promptly outside to enjoy the breeze. The customer service was good and the wait staff was attentive. We had the French Toast which was delicious. In addition, the Bacon Egg and Cheese Sammy with Fries was also tasty. The eggs were fluffy, but I wish the fries were fried in a more recent grease. Lastly, I truly enjoyed the Eggs Lafitte Benedict with eggplant, green tomato, and crab meat. However, upon eating, halfway through, I discovered two very long pieces of hair that was baked into it. If looking for a quick breakfast spot, I might return, thought it probably wouldn't be my first choice.

Good service and food just wish their portions of bred putting were bigger. Definitely coming back to try more of their menu items.

Blooming onion, French Toast, and Crabs Benedict.

Everything was good. Service was excellent, we had Rachel. Located near the lake, nice setup. Would give an 8.5 out of 10. The Sweet Potato beignets tasted amazing, but overcooked on the outside and under cooked on the inside. They may need to lower the cooking temperature. This place was packed, but I found parking and was seated in less than 10 minutes.

Waffle West End - the sauce was delicious. Well made waffle. Chicken strips were on the smaller side.

This past week we visited and we could both tell right away things were different. The inside of the restaurant was filthy and I mean filthy. You could see the floor under the bar and in the kitchen hadn't been cleaned in months. The fryers hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. Everything just looked dirty and like no effort is put into cleaning and maintenance. We decided to eat anyway which was a mistake. We love their burgers that are cooked and steamed old school. We both ordered one. My wife ordered hers with bacon, which they charge over 3 bucks for. We both ordered our burger dressed with all the fixings. When my wife's burger came out it had no bacon and no fixings. I told the waiter and he said he would handled it. He never did as he started doing other orders. My burger had no flavor and it looked like the person that made it didn't care , which goes along with the restaurant cleanness. One thing that really turned us off was the was other guest were treated by staff. The "cook" was completely pissed off and had a horrible attitude. A group came in looking for a table and there wasn't room. He yelled at them that there wasn't room. They stood in the entrance area for a few moments and then he yelled at them that they needed to get out of the restaurant and wait outside. He told them this isn't a restroom so don't wait in line. The attitude and distain in his voice was overwhelming. A few minutes later a couple came in and found 2 seats at the bar. They decided to order food to go and was talking to the waiter. One of the 2 people ordering was standing behind the empty bar seat while they ordered. The cook yelled at this person that they needed to sit down. Both customers were stunned. The waiter told the cook they were making an order to go and the cook could be heard muttering under his breath. This little guy was nothing but attitude and seemed extremely pissed off the there. Maybe instead of being the restaurant traffic cop and total smart ass he should concentrate on getting orders straight since ours was screwed up and never fixed. Whatever charm this place had is gone along with the any effort to keep it up to clean standards.

Unfortunately, the customer service was a completely different experience. After confirming it, the gentleman only told me the total. No greeting, no smile, and I wasn't asked if I wanted to order a drink or anything else. When the woman handed me my food, I asked if I could have some ketchup. She responded with an attitude, saying, "There's some in the bag." I thanked her and left. When I got back to my work van, I opened the bag and found there was only one packet of ketchup. The food was excellent, but the service left me feeling very unwelcome. Based on how I was treated, I couldn't help but feel like I was being judged differently because of my ethnicity. I can't say for certain that was the reason, but that's honestly how the interaction made me feel. I hope management takes customer service seriously because everyone deserves to feel welcomed and treated with respect.

I've been coming here for about 6 or 7 years now, and they are easily in my top three. The vibe? Dive bar, laid back, no fuss... but the FOOD? Don't sleep on it. Their menu is solid and I still haven't made it through everything yet. I've had the wings, which we actually got this visit but ate them so fast we didn't even get a picture. That should tell you enough right there. I've had the pizza, and my husband usually goes for a burger. Never any complaints. They've got plenty on tap and the drinks hit too. I love a good Electric Lemonade, but this time I kept it simple with an Angry Orchard. Now let's talk about what keeps me coming back... The steak. We got our old faithful, one of their signature steaks, the 10oz petite ribeye. This is exactly what made me fall in love with Turtle Bay in the first place. Normally it's around $13.95, comes with a twice stuffed potato and a slice of garlic bread. A DEAL. This time it was a little higher, but still under $15, which honestly is still more than fair with how prices are these days. And when I say it be hitting... it be hitting. Only reason this visit didn't get a full 5 stars? My steak was cooked a little over my liking. I usually go for medium, and this one leaned more done than I prefer. Not horrible, just not my usual perfection. But everything else? Still solid. The staff is always nice, always welcoming. I've never had a bad experience with them, and that matters. And I already know I'm coming back because I keep hearing the crawfish is FIRE. Yeah... I need to see that for myself. This is my happy place. Open 24/7, consistent, affordable, and just a real gem in the French Quarter. The Bay is Babe. Period.

Exceptional--a small amount, it may have even been a starter but regardless was perfect for me. The sandwiches other diners had on their plates were large and looked delicious just glancing around at other tables. Everything comes up fast and the atmosphere is . . . just ideally New Orleans. It feels all the way "working CBD lunch" yet unhurried, a reflection of Cochon's greatness but scaled down and with utterly no pretense. There's simply a real sense of both care and expertise in everything done here no matter how simple or complex.
