We been dining at various Ruth's Chris locations since 2019. This time it's for my birthday! We decided to travel to Cary, NC. We were greeted right away and seated on our reservation time. Our server was Taylor and she was awesome. There were fresh rose petals placed on the table (I assumed for my birthday) and my birthday was acknowledged by the lady who seated us. Went here with a couple family members as a special treat to myself yesterday. The server was a young lady and she was awesome. We went at 5 and there was no table available for 3 but the server pulled a reserved table apart and said since it's just the three of us, we could eat before the reservation comes. This was such a thoughtful gesture. The server was on point the entire time. Everything came quickly and was delicious. I always expect the food to be top tier here and it does not disappoint. I had the Ruth's classic which I think is a good deal. I ordered the steak entree with the mashed potatoes and a salad. The salad was large and the steak was the perfect size! I also ordered the crab beignets and those were very tasty as well. I'm still trying to calculate the value of the app and the price at $22 but I don't think it's a bad value. We ate at the bar area which still had a good ambiance. Now to explain why it's 4 stars and not 5. They don't allow you to split bills there. Our server was going to ask for manager approval but we told her not too worry about it. But I understand this rule for large parties but I'm not quite getting it for smaller groups. It's not that hard to split the bill two ways. One final critique is that the drinks from the bar weren't that great. It was a margarita and all I tasted was lime although the flavors were supposed to be mango and hibiscus. However I received a little simple syrup and it tasted good afterwards. We are regulars at this location - sit in the Bar area for a more casual atmosphere. We usually receive decent service . We were in a booth - clearly saw the "runner" favorite the flanking booths with fresh ground pepper - attention - and loud personal conversation, taking away from A nice dinner. The last 2 times we were there, we were disgusted with the service and the discriminatory service. They need training. They need to watch their conversations with each of the employees, as it's distracting. read more

I'm not quite sure why this location has such bad reviews. I have frequented several locations over the years, the last being over 4 years ago in NJ. I was here last night for my birthday dinner with my wife, and we had an outstanding experience. Our server Scott was amazing! super attentive and informative. He was friendly, and helped my wife with questions about the menu since it was her first time there. Our food was delicious, from the appetizers to my steak and the Creme brûlée, my absolute favorite was delicious. The manager on duty even stopped by our table to check in on our experience. This of course was a special occasion, but we most certainly will be going back soon! read more

Our experience at Ruth's Chris was top-notch, from the service to the food, but what I still can't get behind is the super expensive prices. In the end, I don't think the food was worth as much as we paid. We came here for a birthday dinner and I loved that the hostess, server, and manager all came to wish my friend a happy birthday. Service was attentive the whole night. They even surprised my friend with a piece of cheesecake on the house. I got the lamb chops and two of my friends both got the ribeye. We shared three sides - sweet potato casserole, asparagus with hollandaise, and creamed spinach. The lamb was phenomenal but again, not worth $49. Out of the sides, the asparagus and creamed spinach were alright but way too overpriced at $10 each. The sweet potato casserole was my favorite! read more

I really hate writing less than stellar reviews but this really was a mess. I scheduled a private dining room for an extremely important meeting for my executives who had chartered a flight to meet an important client. I gave a CC# to secure the reservation and I was told everything was good and Ruth Chris was ready for my group of 6 people. The morning of the dinner, I received a phone call that my private dining room was given to the Duke Basketball coaches who were "more important, a friend of the owner and important in that community." I was told by the private events manager that the owner has a higher pay grade and made the call to boot us out the room. Now look, I get it, basketball is important to some, but so is customer service, repeat business, and integrity. I am sure this was a feather in the cap for Ruth Chris but my executives were very important as well. Now, I will say Ruth Chris tried to haphazardly put us in a huge room with a small table that looked totally ridiculous and an afterthought. At this point I was frustrated for being eluded to as "not important" and when I asked for maybe a bottle of wine or some kind of free appetizer or something for the trouble I was promptly met with, "oh no, we aren't going to do that because you didn't sign a contract it was just a dining reservation because you wanted a la carte." Well, that was not explained from the start that my room could be given away at any moment even though I provided a CC# to hold. At this point, desperate (and unnecessarily stressed out) I reached out to Perry's Steak House who totally got me set up with a gorgeous room, stellar service, contract and peace of mind even at last minute AND ordering a la carte. Now, you can book at Ruth Chris if you want but you better make sure communication is stellar, they don't boot you out of your room, sign everything you can and make sure the Duke basketball coaches aren't around. read more

I ordered a filet and it was cooked to my satisfaction but it did not taste the way real meat tastes-it was drenched in butter and left a sickly sweet taste in my mouth. The mashed potatoes were ok but the spinach tasted like an experiment at Star Labs. I don't think I'd like to come back. I went to a Ruth Chris many years ago and it was really good, now it just seemed to what I imagine a Fridays or one of those places is. I'd rather go to a more local, place with real beef. read more

We have been to this establishment about 4 times in the last few months now and when we get put upstairs for some reason, it feels like a different restaurant. We had two orders of lobster tails, which are very small, the lamb chops and the t bone steak. The food was good although the lobster tails were embarrassing for a restaurant of this stature. My steak was not sizzling when it came to the table. The server was just ok. I felt like she did not want to be there. We went on Christmas Eve so maybe she was just tired. I. Love. Ruth's Chris. I love it so much that I went twice in the same week (don't judge me! Lol) As I mentioned in my review of the north hills location, my favorite foods always come out delicious at every RC so I always leave full and happy. All of the food was perfect, as usual this time as well. The service was also impeccable. Our server BOBBY was a rockstar. Super friendly guy and not at all overbearing but always there when you need him. If I knew he was working on a night I came in I would ask to be seated in his area. He is so good at anticipating what the diner needs and providing it before you even ask! I even received a thank you card in the mail after dining here. Thank you so much Bobby! However I can't give 5 stars here because the decor and layout of the restaurant needs a lot of work. A LOT. I refrained from writing a review of this place for years in hopes that it would be remodeled and I could say something good about the inside but alas, it is still exactly the same. The faded art, the strange layout, nothing has changed here in years. The photos on the wall remind me of something in a grandmother's house. The tables in the lower dining room are incredibly close together so we never sit there. Some of the tables upstairs are wedged in next to the round huge meeting/dining area so if you are unlucky enough to get one of those tables then you're going to listen to their entire conversation from about 12 inches away all night long. But the best place to sit is still upstairs so you can get out of the huge fishbowl dining room. Then the issue is, in order to get up there you have to climb about 30 stairs that are covered in dingy old carpet. The upstairs bar looks like a holdover from a 90's country club. It just needs a lot of help. I understand that the Cary crowd and local business people will continue to frequent this RC because it beats driving to Raleigh and they will do so regardless of the lack of changes inside. But this RC would greatly benefit from at least a bit of modernization. At this point, this RC is more for older local ppl and convenient business dinners. In contrast, the north hills Ruth's Chris is one for all ages and the one ppl go out of their way to celebrate in, have dinner before big events, take visitors, or impress a date. If this location make some changes on the inside then maybe it could compete. That's just my two cents. :-/ read more

The food was very good. The ambiance is wonderful. The service was much better than adequate. The clientele dressed up and looked sharp. After thirty years in Hawaii, and seeing Ruth's Chris Steakhouse patrons in board shorts, t-shirts and slippers (Hawaii kine), I was pleased and impressed. Prices were way expensive, as I expected. We had a booth in the bar, our favorite place to dine. 30 years in high-end liquor, wine and beer retail makes it feel like home for us. read more

We usually go to Ruth Chris when we are celebrating a special occasion. This night was no different. Except that it all went wrong. It was Easter Weekend and they advised Specials however Cary Ruth Chris would not honor their posted online specials because they are independently owned and do not have to. And for this night they would not even allow the Classic choices that include a side. So paying $69 for an entre and $15 for sides not to mention $19 salads and appetizers at $22 took our normal dinner from $280+ $56.00 tip to $370+ $88.80 tip this was for Three ppl and we did not even get a drink or a cocktail. I'm sad to say the NEXT celebration (Mothers Day) or whatever. We will not be choosing Ruth Chris. read more

The service was good but the wine was terrible. I wanted a bold dry red. The first recommendation was an $18 California red and it was awful. Then they brought me a $50 glass of a red recommended by the bar tender and it didn't taste different from the first glass. I should have just bought a bottle but I only wanted 2 glasses. Unfortunately the better wines on the list weren't served by the glass. The steak was good but the asparagus was terrible and I wasn't impressed with the Béarnaise sauce either. Disappointed they didn't serve any local wines. We ate at Herons in The Umstead the night before and I can honestly say that their steak, wine and pricing is by far superior to Ruth's Chris. The ambiance was fine. We sat in a nice round booth so it was private but the middle of the booth was dirty covered in crumbs. My sister and I had a great dinner today at Ruth's Chris. Our waitress Tara was excellent and I recommend you ask for her. We both had filets that were cooked perfectly. We had the Brussels Sprouts in bacon and the mushrooms as our sides. I recommend the mushrooms, they have a wonderful acidic flavor. We tried the banana cream pie for dessert. It exceeded our expectations. The crust was super flaky and it was covered in bananas (check out my picture). The service was top notch as you would expect from a Ruth's Chris. I wish I'd had a chance to try this location out pre-Covid land. I realize that the supply chain and staff issues have hit restaurants hard. I'm not sure what this location was like pre-Covid land, but it's been inconsistent the last few times. Hoping it improves! Let's be real, the steak is so yummy! But the little spark that makes you willing to pay the Ruth's Chris price is sometimes missing. I wonder if the suppliers just haven't been able to be as consistent and it's impacted the final product or if the kitchen staff has experienced a lot of change. But for the price, I expect a nailed steak and honestly perfection in the details and that's not always there. Hopefully those issues sort themselves out as the supply chain improves. The makings for an amazing location and phenomenal dinner are all there! But if you don't hit the timing right at this location or have the stars align in your favor, you may be disappointed for the price you pay. read more

We were here for an investment dinner. The servers were all very friendly and helpful. After the speaker did his thing for an hour, service began. We started with a salad of greens, cherry tomatoes and red onion. It had a delicious creamy Italian dressing. Main course was the petite filet cooked to a perfect medium rare. I would describe the meal and overall ambience as good not great. We started with crab stuffed mushrooms and the scallops. The mushrooms were very nice and well cooked. The scallops were tasty but not worth the $25 price tag for 4-5 modest sized scallops. For the main course we had the specials that were $45 for a 6oz steak and a 6oz salmon both accompanied by a glass of wine. On top of that we had the honey roasted sprouts and the creamed spinach both of which were very tasty. Add a tip and the meal for 2 was $200. Was it tasty, yes, was the service good yes, was it a place I would go to again, possibly but not a solid yes. That's the challenge with steakhouses, they rarely justify the price for a meal you can make for yourself at home. read more

Picked Ruth Chris to celebrate a friends 60th birthday. It was our first time out to a sit down restaurant in two years. 4 out of 7 of us became sick. A call to the manager was made the day after our outing and the response was "Well no one else has reported getting sick". (Would they really say anything else?) The service was mediocre for a "high-class" high priced restaurant. Waiter never asked what I would like to drink after asking table. He did not check/ask if our food was cooked to order. When I was done with my meal, I placed my fork and knife across my plate and waited 10-15 minutes before he took it to a tray and walked away leaving it expose. I did ask if they were short staff, thinking maybe I would give him the benefit. He stated they were over staffed due to another restaurant closing for a few years and taking in the whole staff. Perhaps it was because we were a group attending a free dinner compliments of an Insurance Annuity salesman and they weren't being tipped by us as individual guests. My iced tea never got refilled. Our entrees were served very hot, but not at the same time as sides. Quite a lag until dessert was served. Dessert was a very huge piece of cheesecake, which even though I asked for it to go, they insisted on serving and wouldn't box it until after it was served, so another wait. I attended a birthday party here Saturday 1/29/22 my first time ever eating at Ruth Chris and need less to say I won't be back. One of the girls in the party who is pregnant was served raw chicken TWICE. The chicken was also supposed to be stuffed chicken with cheese, I saw no cheese on or in the chicken. The manager never once came to apologize nor will they return our phone calls. They didn't do a complimentary birthday dessert like she's had in the past. Visited this location on Thanksgiving which was our third consecutive. Our visit last week started out fine, adequate parking, greeted at door by valet's, greeted at front desk and party of 10 was seated promptly. Took several minutes for our waiter to greet our table and several minutes after that to have water poured. Finally after cocktail order was taken, it had to have taken 15-20 minutes to be served. The mixed drinks which were order tasted great. Waiter took appetizer and food order at same time which seemed a little different. If I remember correctly, three of us had the turkey meals. The remainder had a steak or lobster. Appetizers arrived in a good time and tasted good. Asked for refill on bread baskets twice before receiving. Almost forgot, two ladies ordered the lobster bisque soup which was very different from most and not desirable. Waiter did offer to replace with a salad. But our entrees arrived a long time after we had completed appetizers. So our meals come out with some hiccups. Two ladies order lobster and had to ask for drawn butter. My sweet potato casserole came out cold. Upon delivery of entries waiter asked a few of us if cocktail refills were needed which three were ordered. The three cocktails finally came out just before completing our meals. In past years if you ordered the turkey meal a to go container with same meal was offered for free. Our waiter did not offer and was a little miffed when I requested my to go. When my to go container did arrive the portion was quite smaller than in past years. The service was very slow during entire dining experience. I do have to say, the staff refilling water glass' was on top of it our entire meal. The three who ordered steak entrees enjoyed their meal. The two ladies with lobster were not overly impressed in flavor. I felt my turkey plate was sufficient but not overly bountiful. In past years this rating would be higher. read more

He said he would put a note in my file to make sure we had a good server next time. No offer for any kind of discount or coupon to make up for the bad experience on May 8. EDIT: I reached out to Ruth Chris by email, as well as by posting this review. I received ZERO feedback from anyone. I've been a big fan of this restaurant chain but my recent experience has been disappointing. Not the service I expect. Went for Mother's Day Brunch (lunch). I didn't expect everything to be quick. Food was very slow to come out compared to other tables. Nothing complicated. Just salmon and a fillet with sides. The waiter started clearing the table before I was finished eating. My partner commented on that later. Decaf French press was not good. My partner tried it and said it was terrible. We are both coffee drinkers. Maybe waiter pressed too soon. Should have let us do it. For the price you expect better service. Our lunch was $200 including tip. I think next time I'll try Perry's. read more

As someone who has been a fan of Ruth's Chris over the years I was extremely disappointed in the treatment we received tonight from Kurt Larkins, General Manager. We had a reservation for 7 people to celebrate my wife & mother in law's birthday. Our server was Quieysha who was amazing. All drinks and appetizers arrived as ordered and she was very attentive. When our entrees were delivered my youngest daughter's steak was not cooked correctly (she ordered med well & it came out as med rare). A "manger" came over and said he would have it corrected right away. After about 5 minutes the steak came back out, charred on the outside, and cooked to "close" to medium at best. That's when Kurt came over and said he would take care of it. The steak went away, we asked everyone at the table to please eat while their steaks were warm. My daughter's fiancé & I obviously did not begin eating since she had no food. As time went on it became uncomfortable for the rest of our party to eat as she still did not have a steak. Eventually Kurt came back to our table, with the exact same steak (which had been cut in to) and now it looked like a piece of charred wood. I asked him if it thought it appropriate to bring out a filet that had been sent back to the kitchen twice. By now my steak, and her fiancés steak were ice cold. Kurt's only response was "I'm sorry". He did deduct $53.00 form our almost $600 bill but had no trouble charging us for my & my daughters fiancé's steak which we left on the able after sitting there over 45 minutes trying to get corrected. I cannot express how disappointed I am in this evening and the treatment we received. I will definitely be reaching to the franchise owner and the corporate office. read more

My boyfriend and I spent the Saturday night after Valentine's Day here and we loved it! Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and very friendly. I ordered the red berry lemonade cocktail and it was strong- but in a good way! I loved it. My steak was a little undercooked, but so tender and juicy. Don't skip out on the Au gratin potatoes!! This is a very high end restaurant and our experience was something wonderful. The service was among the best. From the complimentary valet, to the manager himself introducing himself to every table and ensuring everything is to our satisfaction. The food was the best I've tried in a long time. I ordered the wedge salad, the 16 oz New York strip, and the creme brûlée. Also ordered an old fashioned and coffee to pair with the desert. This has be my favorite steak restaurant in the Durha-Chapel Hill area. I have also heard good things about Nana steak, as well. Their stuffed mushroom starter has an earthy cheesy flavor and highly addicting. The medium T-bone steak was delicious and dripping with a sizzling butter sauce. The steak literally is sizzling in butter when they bring it out. The only negative would be the price, but most steak restaurants are pricey anyways.
