This place is GREAT! I was very upset about the Blue Mug closing. It broke my heart. I started thinking about where I was going to go get a cup of coffee now that my favorite place had closed... then I remembered a friend telling me about this great place in San Marcos. So... I decided to go. I always support local businesses (well, only if they're good), and I loved the idea that they roasted their coffees here in the World's Greatest City. I don't know what the previous reviewers were saying, but this place DOES have air conditioning. It was quite pleasant in there. The two women behind the counter were quite helpful and very pleasant. I didn't find anyone to be rude or impatient at all. I even asked them all sorts of annoying questions about their coffee, and the woman just seemed excited that I liked the place. I ended up buying two pounds of coffee and getting a free drink. The chai lattes are superb. They actually brew their own tea, and they'll tell you how they make them so you can duplicate them at home. I was impressed. By the way, I tried the coffee I brought home the next day. I'd bought a pound of decaf for an evening party... and everyone loved it. This place is a keeper. read more

I love their coffee. Who goes to Starbucks unless you're 18 and don't know any better? The difference is in the beans. We buy our coffee here and have it ground weekly for our home. My favorite is the Oaxaca roast. I also love that they sponsor Clint Perry & the Boo Hoo Crew (children's band) twice per month in the courtyard. Its great for the kids, our daughter is 3 and loves it!!!! When it rained once the owner allowed us to relocate to his church so we wouldn't have to cancel. Really nice service from Ali. Not a lot of chairs/couches to sit and chat, but I wasn't there to hang out, just for an afternoon pick-me-up. The coffee was nice and strong, and I also picked up one of their chocolate chip cookies (the HUGE dark ones with white chocolate chips) and it was PERFECT! Moist, not too sweet but still tasty. I like the atmosphere at Ryan Bros. PROS: The baristas are usually sweet and incredibly helpful. Though I've overheard some customers complain that the shop doesn't stock a large enough supply of coffee and food items day to day, I can appreciate a restaurant/coffee shop that will wait for good products to ship versus accepting crappy fare just to put something at customers' beck and call. The drinks and treats are superb, outshining all of the chain coffee pits and many of the mom & pop coffee shops in SD County. CONS: The music is often quite loud--intermittently, since it seems to be a Sirius/XM or Pandora feed with a really weak signal--and customers often complain about the weak WIFI signal. A new router, or just a software update on the current one, can easily fix both problems. Overall, my wife and I really enjoy visiting Ryan Bros. Keep up the good work! read more

I will update this the next time I go and try something new and add or keep the stars the same. The staff are wonderful, so nice and attentive. I purchased a homemade peanut butter cup which was delicious! Creamy and not to mention it was huge! I wanted the salted caramel latte which was a recommendation of an employee. The first sip I took was great, but once I got in my car And took another sip I realized the Drink was way too sweet, to the point where I couldn't even drink it. My boyfriend purchased a brownie frap, that was really good so I recommend that (but not a large size since it's pretty sweet as well) a small will hit the spot. I vaguely remember my first visit here and that the coffee was alright and the bagel sandwich hit the spot. I must have been starving. This morning my wife and I ordered drinks and planned to split the avocado toast. They put raw tomatoes on it and were out of real avocados (in California? Really?). The taste was nearly vomit inducing. The side of bacon we ordered came out as thin as a tissue and was soggy and barely cooked. My only positive remark about this place is that I consider the $17 an investment on my part to learn never to come back. Service was okay; wasn't too impressed by it. I tried the Cold Brew; it was interesting to say the least. I wouldn't get a growler that's for sure. The store felt a little disorganized all around in terms of set up and cleanliness. My wife ordered a tea infused smoothie; the overall concept sounds great however it didn't deliver. We used to go to this location frequently for the coffee but also for the excellent friendly people who worked there. Recently, there seems to have been a major downturn because we got subpar drinks and so we asked for the manager, Paul. We learned that he was let go as were many others. Maybe the Bros need to rethink what good customer service will do for their bottom line. There are too many other excellent places to get coffee around San Diego. read more

This is a locally owned place that really seems to care about coffee and tea. Where else around here can get espresso shots pulled manually? And when you order coffee, they will grind it and brew an individual cup for you. I haven't tried any tea yet, but they have quite a few offerings in black, green and red (rooibos). My wife and kids tried the Mexican hot chocolate (a big favorite of theirs) and they proclaimed it the best they've had. Some of the employees seem more coffee savvy than others, but I'm happy to say that some are complete coffee nerds. You can ask for a ristretto here and actually get one. :-) The setting is nice, too. In a new center near the San Marcos Civic Center, there's outdoor seating, a huge fire pit and they play free movies at night. There's also free Wi-Fi offered by both Ryan Bros and the city of San Marcos. This is a great addition to San Marcos, and even though it's out of the way for me, I'm already showing up here often. read more

The quality of their food & coffee is good. Better than most in San Diego. But whoever manages this place really needs to figure out what they are doing. They are constantly running out of product for days at a time. When your customers have to call ahead to make sure you ordered enough this week before they waste a trip to you again there is a major problem. If there was another place in all of SD that I could get a decent egg sandwich I would have already stopped coming here. Has a cool ambiance. When I walked in one of the workers was having a spat with a customer about being out of something which was kinda awkward. But I tried the vanilla cold brew and it was a bit sweet but the guy said he could mix it with regular to cut the sweetness which was great. Very friendly will definitely go back here. read more

This coffee shop is unique and awesome, they have moderate prices for a 24oz drink its about $4.50 or less . I order a cookies N' Cremes frapp. It was very tasty, my friend got a Carmel Drop Frapp with white chocolate chips mixed in, both drinks were really good :) Whats neat about the shop, is that they have they're mixtures for sale so you could make the drinks at home. Huge plus if you want to save money. They also have great service, and they even have doggie treats and a bowl of water for your four legged friends :) plus they have free WI-FI TOO :) They also have a good variety of teas to take home too :) read more

This is my first time here and I came here by accident. I was thinking of going home to study but the freeway was insanely packed and so I decided to just hang out here in San Marcos. I pulled into the first plaza I could and decided I should find somewhere to study. I saw this coffee shop and decided to stop by. The outside looks kind of lonely but when I walked in I saw that there's a lot of people here who come to study. It's such a cute little place. They have indoor seating and outdoor! The outdoor seating is so comfy, and really relaxing. When I came in the barista/cashier was really friendly and helped me decided what to get. I don't do dairy so I was totally happy to see that they have a bunch of dairy free coffee options. Plus she was totally cool! She was really easy to talk to and very friendly! Great customer service I would say the prices are kind of like Starbucks honestly. I got a large Mexican mocha and it was about 5 bucks. But considering starbucks charges extra to use non dairy milk it was cheaper here than there. I think I'm definitely coming back. The relaxing setting and the great coffee got me! I used to live around the corner from here and would go here a couple of times a month for a bagel with cream cheese and a chai tea latte. It was always good and delicious but the service was always better! The people that work here are amazing. I recently (as in, yesterday) made plans to meet a friend here after work. I was excited because I've moved out of the area and was excited to find an excuse to drive here. I showed up at 5:57 and it looked like everything was closing down. They must've seen the sadness in my eyes bc they were super apologetic and offered to do what they could even though everything was mostly cleaned up. I didn't want to be *that* customer so I was like, no it's ok. But I was super impressed by their friendliness and willingness to help. So I thought the idea of coffee on tap was cool at first then I thought about how gross it could be. At some point, that bag of coffee is sitting in their back room somewhere yuck! The quality of the coffee didn't taste very good, I got the vanilla latte. It didn't taste like there was any actual coffee in it, it just tastes like straight vanilla creamer. Because the coffee is exponentially better, the people working here are super-helpful and friendly, and there's just a good "vibe" when you walk inside (good for writing or studying). I like to try different things when I come in, and I always ask for a suggestion. They have always recommended delicious drinks. I'll describe something that I'm craving, ex. "I want something, like, creamy, but chocolatey, and..um..maybe some caramel, and..caffeine." And they'll create some awesome concoction for me. In short, their excellent customer service has me coming back and satisfied every. single. time. That deserves 5 stars. Went here for tea and it was so very good. staff was kind and helpful. Got a green tea and it was so good and the tea leaves were fresh. Love the method they use to steep and pour tea.
