My sister and I were in San Marcos to take care of cremation services for my brother. We had been given the name of Ryan's Bros. Coffee by our hotel "Residence in by Marriott San Diego North" by (Jacob) we were looking for a local coffee place and we were not disappointed. This coffeehouse is a good one. Pros: The layout is open with a vaulted ceiling. There's plenty of seating for groups large and small. The Mexicano is my all-time favorite drink and is highly recommended. Cons: They sometimes run out of their specialty concoctions (to be expected from a specialty place). Parking is sometimes rough due traffic in the area from proximity to CSUSM. Overall, a friendly staff with a good menu. read more

When you are in full-day meetings and just had a yummy lunch, you must get the coffee. Luckily, Ryan Bros Coffee was in the same shopping complex as our sushi restaurant. Entering the shop, we looked at the menu which was very small - but do not let that deter you from coming here. I immediately asked them about their Mexican coffee and if it was spicy. The barista told me no, but they had an Aztec one that was spicy - so that is the one I went with. Let me say the spiciness is no joke - but boy was it delicious! I got it hot but also got a cup of ice. I can't tell you if I liked it hot or cold better - because both ways were delicious! read more

I didn't see the whole process of them making my cappuccino, although I did see them pour what looked like a mini French press into my cup. That didn't make sense because I didn't understand why they didn't pull 3 espresso shots from the espresso maker, since I got a 16 oz. My "cappuccino" didn't taste right which was obvious the way they made my drink. Especially at the end of my cup when I could taste grounds of coffee, which really shows they used a French press vs espresso shots pulled from the machine. I included a picture of my cup showing the grounds stuck to the sides of my cup. 2 ppl got the dirty chai tea latte and raved about it so much. They loved how smooth it taste. I'm not into that drink although it did taste better than the other DCTL I've tasted. I guess I won't be ordering any espresso drinks from them again since their espresso machine is just for looks. read more

A little busy but not crazy (no one in line but me), yet the cashier/sandwich maker was exceptionally scatterbrained and had a hard time taking my really simple order. One cold brew coffee: ironically, notably bitter for a company that's slogan says otherwise, plus 2 cubes of ice in an iced drink. But my breakfast sandwich, which was the reason for my visit- awful. Barely toasted at all, avocado is a listed and important ingredient on this item but was maybe (maybe!) a tsp of some puréed avocado, and the jalapeño spread- the basis for naming the sandwich "South of the Border" - was just replaced with plain cream cheese, without asking or telling me about the substitution. When I asked about getting the spicy spread promised, I was told they were out and offered more cream cheese (on an otherwise no dairy sandwich at that). So, scrambled egg, a shitload of plain cream cheese, and the suggestion of avocado on untoasted bread. Enough said. read more

Came here for bagels, which probably wasn't the smartest option since they only have three options (original, sesame, and everything) along with two options for cream cheese (original and chipotle). Luckily the bagels are from La Brea Bakery, so it was on point. Also ordered the Mexican Mocha Cold Brew - coffee is what they're more known for - and it was amazingly light, subtle and refreshing. You could taste the traditional Mexican chocolate and the cold brew wasn't bitter as I'm typically used to. All in all - a good find! read more

Quality coffee made by wonderful baristas. The few times I've been in here to order an original Mocha no whip have been a great, the mocha to espresso ratio is perfectly blended and their recipe is consistent. They also have cold brewed coffee on tap, one of which is on nitro and if you're craving is for more than just a cup they have growlers for you to fill and enjoy throughout the day. I am addicted to coffee and Ryan's is the place for my gourmet coffee fix! read more

Added Irish Creme and heavy whipping cream, which I thought would be delicious... tasted like water. such a waste! The Iced Vanilla Latte, was pure milk & sugar. I have been going to this shop over the span of 2 years, but after recent events, their quality of service has tremendously gone down. Instance 1- I ordered a snickerdoodle latte and it tasted like I was doing the cinnamon challenge. I went home and tried to add more milk or sweetener to make up for all the bitterness but there was no hope. It was almost 8 dollars for the size I got, and unfortunately, I threw it away after 4 sips. Instance 2- they always seem understaffed. It took them 24 minutes to make my bagel with cream cheese. I could tell everyone in the shop was on edge because they only ever have two people working when I visit. Please put more workers on during busy hours. It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes MAX to call out a bagel. (I wasn't the only one who had to wait a long time). Instance 3- my food has always come out burnt. Like legit black exterior. Coffee itself, besides the snickerdoodle latte, isn't horrible but by no means is it of quality. If I'm paying 6-8 dollars for a regular size drink, I expect to enjoy the coffee and not force myself to drink it because I don't want it to go to waste :( Pros- very nice outside seating and they play good music. The espresso shot wasn't very good and tasted like the machine isn't rinsed between shots throughout the day (old re extracted grounds taste and lots of bitterness). The milk was blasted to h e double hockey sticks, rendering the drink undrinkable (exploded nitrates from overheating the milk instead of carefully "steaming" to create sweet and silky microfoam can give people stomachaches yo). Hopefully they will look into proper techniques and machine cleanliness (and/or better training before letting staff make drinks if some baristas here are good and I just got the wrong one that day). read more

Stopped in for lunch today and I'm downgrading this place from my last visit. Sorry guys! I ordered a chipotle club and a 'fantasy bar' for my little one. The fantasy bar has a bit of everything (chocolate chips, coconut, etc..brownie style). They were out of chocolate chip cookies. The sandwich was really heavy on the chipotle sauce and I did see a gnat in the pastry container. The fantasy bar was individually wrapped, but there were several open items. Not sure how comfortable I would feel buying an unwrapped pastry item from them. The barista was friendly and the food came out quickly. Three stars is appropriate. read more

Well so cal its getting HOT and yesterday I needed something different and refreshing. I make sun tea all the time in the backyard with boring black tea bags so I wanted to make my go to drink but much more exotic. I looked at all the teas and ended up picking tropical rain while my friend got an ICED T&T. The staff was nice, and helped me pick out my choice. For 10 dollars I got a tall TNT and pb cookie for my man, and the small herbal iced tea for me. I would say thats a reasonable amount for an afternoon treat for two. I will return! Reminded me a little bit of Bad Ass and Coffee Bean. - They have a large selection of tea drinks. - Place is small on the inside. I found myself staying at my aunt's house in San Marcos, and I randomly came across the Yelp listing for Ryan Bros. when I was looking for a place with good Internet. My coffee cravings were previously filled by Better Buzz, but after one visit to Ryan Bros., my allegiance switched. I came in and asked to try their regular filtered coffee. The guy behind the counter, Brandon, was super friendly. He told me any of the beans are available as a pourover for the same price. He said the Etheopian (I think) was his favorite, so I had him make me that. Just over $2 for an excellent coffee. He even steamed a bit of milk to add to my coffee to make it an almost-latte. Came back the next day and we tried the Papua New Guinea, which was also excellent. It looks like this place is consistent, delicious, good value, and with excellent service. I told my aunt she has to check this place out, and after I showed her the menu she said she wants to try the Snickerdoodle Latte. I might have to, also. Put a drive-through at this spot and make it 24 hours and you've got it all! read more

This is a nice coffee shop, with not a large menu, some food items, and bagged coffee/tea for sale. It's a very open coffee bar, the staff is nice, and prepared things quickly. I was extremely surprised by this coffee joint. I would absolutely come back from South SD to get a coffee fix here. The service was impeccable. They were friendly, attentive to all patrons, and quick with their orders. I think that is what really inclined me to have such a nice experience. The prices are reasonable for the tasty drinks they create. It's not like a European coffee joint.. think small cafe setting with blended drinks and coffee. We had the white mocha and the reeses peanut butter cup.. which was delicious!! Saw that it's a small chain of two locations.. and I was thoroughly impressed. When I go into a coffee shop and order a latte, there's a distinct expectation: one or two shots of espresso, and milk that is foamed to the proper temperature (or close to it). I recently got a latte here and watched as they used a short pull of water in a French Press for about a minute as the "espresso" portion of my latte. When I looked around more, I realized they don't even have an espresso machine ! A coffee house without an espresso machine ??!! They used to have an espresso machine -they say about two years ago-but apparently they decided to cheap out and do it this way. The latte tasted as you would expect - terrible. I got an iced French vanilla latte w/ coconut milk and it rivals Starbucks so hard. I may even like it better than Starbucks. V relieved that this place is good since I'm going to have to stare at their sign everyday bc it's so close to my new residence.
