    Popcorn chicken and kimchi rice
    Judy H.

Hip, Korean fusion cafe with abridged food and extensive drink menu. My friend and I checked out this place. We were able to get in on a Saturday afternoon after a short wait. We ordered the popcorn chicken, kimchi fried rice, and hojicha with an espresso shot latte. I was glad that there were gluten free options. The popcorn chicken was unfortunately a little salty, which went well with the fried rice. The hojicha latte was missing the light sweetness that we ordered. Ambiance was light and airy. And there's an elevator in case you don't want to use the stairs to get to the upstairs.

Been wanting to come here for the longest time because of how cute the interior looked and I finally got to come!! Visited on a Saturday during opening time and it wasn't busy at all! They have 2 floors, the bottom is for take out and doing work I think while the top is for dining in. We were able to get seated on the top floor right away. Despite the cafe being so nice and it being a sit down, we ordered through QR codes and had to get our own water. I was expecting better service tbh, but the workers were still all very kind. I mainly came here for the matcha, and I tried the cream top matcha with oat milk. Unfortunately, it was pretty disappointing. The cream top was pretty cheesy and the matcha taste was very light. It tasted like matcha chocolate (white chocolate with a faint matcha taste). However the food was very solid. The popcorn chicken was very juicy and I loved the fried tteokbokki with the seaweed seasoning. They were perfectly lightly crisp. The kimchi fried rice was also really tasty, but I felt kinda awkward eating fried rice at 9am lol. It would've hit more during lunch time! This would be an amazing wfh cafe though. Food, drinks, and they also had lots of seating and outlets. TLDR: great food, matcha was a little disappointing, but adorable cafe

Wonderful experience for my first time at Sohn! I was greeted like how you would at a restaurant and was led to a table! But the ordering process is through their QR code. I ordered the Banana Hojicha latte and it was amazing. Both flavors were so strong yet so complementary to each other! There's tons of searing both upstairs and downstairs. I love the wood decor, white walls, and framed pictures as decoration OH not to forget that there was wifi and outlets-- optimum wfh spot!

4.5 stars Expansive, aesthetically pleasing cafe with couches, tables for meetings or coworking spaces, and 2nd floor overlooking the open kitchen. It doesn't feel cramped and it can be easy to spend the majority of the day in there. Ordering is by kiosk when you enter, there is a waiting nook for drinks. Parking can be tricky in the area with tight roads, plenty of food shops to walk to while in the area. Order: Banana matcha latte: the banana flavor was strong, and the matcha was light in comparison. was hoping for stronger matcha profile. Will try the Hojicha next time!

Everything was great quality and food came out fast! They have a self-service station for water and cups if you need them. We got the Banana Oat Milk Latte (Hojicha) which had a very strong banana flavor! The Popcorn Chicken was dark meat so very juicy and salty and delicious; not that it needs it, but a gochujang aioli would be fun on the side! The Galbi Patti Melt was had a sweet flavor to it, i would love if the kimchi slaw was more "kimchi" and less "slaw." Looked kimchi color but did not have kimchi flavor. A good spot!

Came on a Friday at 2pm and there was a short line but there was still a wait because a lot of people come here to work so the tables fill up and stay filled since the AM's. The interior aesthetic is so beautifully done and the space is really comforting. We ordered the popcorn chicken which was probably our favorite food dish. The fried mini tteokbokki was crispy and chewy and the chicken had great flavor. The galbi melt just tasted like a regular patty sandwiched between a croissant. Basically exactly what it looked like, nothing special in my opinion. I would pass on the Korean sausage croissant. The croissant was dense and not airy or crispy. It came cold and I suspect it would've tasted better if they toasted/warmed it up. Best part were the drinks. Would probably only come back for that.

Matcha Latte (3.75/5) Matcha was decent! Nothing special, flavor could be stronger imo Interior is super nice! Two floors I really like the ambience :)

Happy to be a regular at Sohn, a comfortable korean cafe offering a great place to work from home in the city and to spend time chatting away with your friends and family. I have been to Sohn at least over six times already and will continue to come here. Sohn is located 5 minutes away from the 22nd street Caltrain station, making it very convenient for commuters. However, for folks who are not familiar with the Dogpatch area, parking here can be extremely tough, so if you are not willing to spend a good chunk of time finding a spot or paying money, I would not recommend it. The free spots are usually only 4 hours max (which is pretty good for the city but still). The best time to come to Sohn is very early in the morning during opening. They have a lot of seating and it can be very peaceful and quiet, however throughout the day the traffic does increase a lot. As a note, if you decide to come here solo for dine in, they most liekly will put you either at the bar or upstairs in a communal table. They do walk you to seating, it is not open selection. As a note for Sohn, if you dine in, you will go on the left side of the shop where they will sit you to a table. On the table is a QR code where you order, and then they will bring eveerything out for you. If you want to go you line up on the right and wait to order at the kiosk. My favorite food items/drinks I have gotten at Sohn goes as followed: * Their banana oat hojicha latte, the hojicha is nice and toasty and the banana is pronounced and makes the drink creamy * Their pumpkin tea (actually one of the best teas I have ever had). I feel like Sohn is known for the matcha and hojicahs, but personally I do think one of their underrated drinks is their pumpkin tea (hot). It taste very homey, strong kaboucha flavor, and subtly sweet. I often order one matcha/hojicha to inhale and a secondary tea to enjoy slowly as I work. * Their popcorn chicken is chef's kiss. I think the rice cakes are nice and chewy, their chicken is juicy and flavored very well. It is also gluten free :) * They have Eric Kim's gochujang cookie which was made nicely, if you want a sweet treat Overall, Sohn is an excellent choice if you are around the area. The decor is nice, bright, and clean, and even though it may be packed, it is quite relaxing.

I went when it 1st opened but I forgot to post! Located in the Dogpatch, it's a big space. There is Upstairs seating and it's in the old "Daily Driver" bagel space This little sandwich packs a punch. So flavorful. Tiny but mighty. We ordered from the QR code and it came fairly quick. Great space to chill. It's a Korean inspired café and it's very minimal looking inside. *Bonus- Mayor Lurie was walking out when I arrived!! Nice to see him out and about visiting businesses

A really unique spot solid Korean dishes and Matcha/caffeine First time here was for drinks, and they were good enough for me to comeback and try more. The Matcha is solid, I've had it with the cream too and the second time tried the banana milk matcha. They are known for their house made banana milk and it's pretty tasty. No artificial stuff there The Hojicha is also a solid choice. Always love when Hojicha is an option to get those nice roasty notes. Second time around we also got the dirty Hojicha which is an espresso shot which has got me thinking I should make these at home. Finally got to trying the food 1) Galbi Patty Melt - Absolute must get. Galbi patty with grilled onions topped with melted cheese with kimchi + a buttered sesame croissant? Not only is this one of the best Korean things I've had it's one of up there for breakfast too. 2) Kimchi fried rice - comes with a sunny side egg which makes its a really solid kimchi fried rice (And I don't really like kimchi) 3) Popcorn Chicken - Love than it comes with some fried rice cakes. Never really had these before and I like it. Chicken is good. Your perfect snack to go If you're coming to visit Sohn you MUST get some food even if it's just to go. I do think that the food is better than the drinks. *Pro tip, if this is your first time heading here. The gps will take you to the front and parking is NOT available on the street so once you get in the area I recommend looking for parking because you will have to take a short walk to get to Sohn!

    Hojicha latte

SOHN is a Korean breakfast and brunch cafe in the Dogpatch neighborhood. I have to give them a compliment on their design, this is probably one of the most aesthetic cafe in the Bay Area. The cafe is very spacious with both downstairs and upstairs seating, free wifi, plenty of power outlets, making it a great working space for remote workers (like me) or students. Their menu has a wide variety of food and drink options, and I really enjoyed everything I ordered. I had hojicha latte and Galbi Patty Melt (their breakfast sandwich). Hojicha latte was not too sweet so you can focus on the nutty flavor of the drink. And what I like most is that the "hot hojicha" was served at a perfect temperature, warm enough to be comforting but not too hot to burn my mouth. Their Galbi Patty Melt featured Korean BBQ beef, cheddar cheese, and kimchi slaw on a sesame croissant bun. The croissant was incredibly buttery, which makes me want to come back and try more of their croissants next time. Overall, I had a great experience. This will definitely be my go-to cafe for working from now on.

    Matcha with signature cream top
    Meiyi Y.

I went back for the signature cream top hojicha and it was also very tasty with a well roasted flavor and it was not too sweet. The cream added a smooth texture. I also tried the banana oat milk matcha. It was good but the banana flavor was overpowering. The popcorn chicken was well seasoned and crispy. I love the seaweed that they add to the flavoring. The rice cake was a unique touch. Although I am personally not a fan of rice cakes, they were also fried to great crispiness. The staff was friendly and helpful. They were able to move my friend and I from the bar to a table after requesting for a seating change so we have access to the outlets.

Been wanting to check out this place. Got there before 10am and thankfully there was no line yet. The minute we got in, we were greeted and asked either to-go or dine-in. We chose to dine in and were seated right away. We ordered and paid through the QR code right away. Service was kind and quick. Matcha latte was nice and subtle, wish it was hotter in temperature but that's just my preference. Signature latte was perfect. Plain croissant was sweet and flaky, maybe better when warmed up. Popcorn chicken and rice cakes were so good with the seaweed seasoning! Definitely recommend. Place has plenty of seating downstairs and upstairs. Neat and clean. There are self serve stations for lids, plates and to-go boxes. Gets kind of loud with the chatter esp when busy, not sure if this is a good place to study or get work done. But a great place to catch up with friends or family!

Once you step through the doors, however, you're greeted by a space that feels both cozy and contemporary, with an effortlessly stylish atmosphere. Even the restroom was thoughtfully designed and remarkably comfortable--a small detail, but one that speaks to the restaurant's overall attention to detail. We began with the Uni Scallop Toast and Mulhwe as appetizers. As someone who is typically not a fan of uni due to its pronounced brininess, I was genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed the toast. The bright citrus sauce balanced the richness of the uni beautifully, while the contrasting textures from the crisp toast and delicate scallop created a harmonious bite. The scallop also helped mellow the stronger oceanic notes of the uni. It was a creative and memorable dish unlike anything I've had before. The Mulhwe, a Korean-style fish salad, was dressed in a refreshing apple vinaigrette that gave it a light, summery citrus character. The fish itself had a pleasantly chewy texture--firmer than salmon--with no trace of fishiness. While enjoyable, it didn't leave quite the same impression as the uni toast and was my least favorite dish of the evening. For our entrées, we ordered the Galbi Steak and Pork Jowl Bossam. Both dishes showcased exceptional execution. The meats were cooked perfectly, but what stood out even more was the precision in preparation. The steak was expertly sliced and incredibly tender--so much so that even with braces, it was effortless to enjoy. The pork jowl achieved an ideal balance between lean meat and luscious fat, creating a rich yet satisfying bite. We enjoyed the meal so much that dessert was non-negotiable. The Matcha Tiramisu was a creative interpretation of the classic. A dome of mascarpone cheese encased ladyfinger biscuits at its center, accompanied by a vibrant matcha ganache sauce. The dessert leaned far less sweet than traditional tiramisu, allowing the earthy matcha and creamy mascarpone flavors to shine. It was elegant, balanced, and a wonderful way to end the meal. Lastly, the service was outstanding. Our server was soft-spoken, patient, and genuinely attentive throughout the evening, making the experience feel warm and welcoming. Considering the quality of the food, thoughtful presentation, ambiance, and service, I found the pricing to be completely justified. As a pleasant surprise, I later learned that Bansang is part of the same restaurant group behind Daeho--a detail that certainly explains the level of quality we experienced.

Granted we were a bit late for our reservation, we ended up having to wait another 30-40 mins. The place (2nd floor) is small & awkward. The delicious taste of tangy, savory, spicy, and sour, together with a complex, pungent, and, crunchy profile is the perfect start before our lunch selection. Its fermented cabbage has a strong, aromatic notes of garlic, ginger, and chili powder, which marries perfectly with our set lunch. (4.5 of 5) Soup: The soup of the day is a mild clear soup with bits of prawns and vegetables. This is lovely when paired with the boisterous kimchi. (4 of 5) Our orders from their Lunch Special: Vegetable Deluxe: A great selection of vegetables, though they're mostly semi-done to near raw. The wontons were really good though. (3 of 5) Broccoli Chicken: The chicken pieces are tender and the broccoli in this dish is cooked well. (4.5 of 5) Braised Tofu: This is my top dish. It's flavour-packed in a savoury, aromatic sauce. The tender, chewy texture acts like a sponge, absorbing the deeply flavourful sauce. Superb! (5 of 5)

The wait for the dish was almost 25 mins but all worth it !The complimentary soup and banchan were huge and alright. The servers know what they were doing but one minor thing about my experience was that the waitress served a really really hot dish at her convenience and I had to move it to the center for sharing. Since they're busy they expect you to finish your meal, pay and go.

This is my wife's favorite SF Korean restaurant, so I am glad that she was able to join me on this trip. Actually, my guest was the one that requested Korean today. LOL. Today, my guest ordered the following: Soft Tofu Soup - Complimentary. Now this has the most flavor of all the dishes. It also came out piping hot, see picture. Seafood Pancake - Overall good, I appreciate the precut slices, thanks. Makes eating and dividing easier. Marinated Chicken - Decent portions, tender, etc. But with minimum flavor. Broiled Fish, Broiled Mackerel - My guest loves fish, but she did not eat too much of this. So more food to bring back to the house for her. Stir-Fried Vermicelli - Good, but you can almost not mess this up. Actually, I make a pretty good Japchae. :) Banchan - 9 options; good variety and with decent to generous portions. Actually, all the dishes came out steaming, piping hot, and fresh. If you do not like spicy food, this is the place for you. Most, if not all, dishes including the banchan are not spicy. Atmosphere - Good size local restaurant. Table or booth seating. Private room in the back available. Hibachi style dining available. 2 clean bathrooms. See picture. Open 5 days a week from 11am to 8pm or 9pm, closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Street parking, it was not too bad. I got a space a few blocks away. Service - 3 stars. The owner is typically friendly but did not greet us today?!?! One waitress was extremely more professional than the other. I think the other waitress was in a bad mood?!?! It was not easy asking for stuff, tea refills, water, utensils, more banchan, etc. Price - $120 + tip. Reasonably priced for Korean food, especially because my guest will get another meal out of it from all our leftovers. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since...??? I have been coming here for 20+ years. Maybe 30+ years...? Or am I outdating myself...
