SS. Dion used to be rather popular with my family. I had one of those meltdown evenings there and vowed to never set foot in the place again. We had reservations, and we were seated at a table next to a large party of screaming kids. I told Steve Dion to move us. All the other tables were empty, but reserved. The bar was empty and that's where he sat us. A waitress came by and gave us our menus and never came back. There wasn't anyone there yet. We should have had her full attention. They seated people around us and she went to them, but she never came to our table. I motioned her over and finally she took our drink order. She never came back. They were seating people outside now and our waitress was going outside now too. We are at an hour now, and the waitress is outside. I complained to Steve, who was sitting two tables from me about the service. He disappeared into the other room. Maybe she'll come now! They seated two men behind us, and one of them was coughing so loud, he made us all jump out of our seats. Every minute or two. I asked the guy if he shouldn't be home in bed? He ignored me. I'm asking my family to leave. At the two hour mark, I walked out and sat by the water. Another two hours, while the rest of my family ate. I watched the boats go by. Four hours, and we were one of the first tables seated! I'm sitting on a little bench by the water, in the dark! My family finally comes walking up to me with a little box. Our waitress apologized, blamed her inattention on the place being busy and sent me a slice of cake. "Oh, that makes it all better." I'd love to go back in and tell her what she could do with that cake, but I decided never to set foot in there again. I'm over the place. I liked the food for the most part, but ruin my evening and I'm done with you. The owner was right there on the floor, and he didn't do anything. We used to get calamari over pasta, chicken a la Michael, grilled swordfish and salmon, baked scallops, and baked seafood casseroles. All good. We had hiccups with service being slow, and we've sent back food before but two hours is the longest I've ever waited to place an order. I should have dragged my family out of there after twenty minutes. I'd have been a whole lot less miffed. They are in a good spot by Independence park, and the food is usually good but I won't go back. read more

Me and my family will not come here anymore.... it's just not worth it when there are better choices/options in town. Service is "eh". Food isn't good. Oh well.... I have been coming to S S Dion for years now, and go about a couple of times a month with my boyfriend. We are positively addicted. We came for the very affordable dinner for two menu that I can't recommend enough! After that we were hooked. It runs Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Choose two of their delicious entrees, which are served with a soup or salad, and your choice of veg, plus a bottle of wine for 40.00 It's the best deal in Bristol. My standby is the scrod dijon or the baked scrod. We usually get the chowder to start, but their tomato soup is also good! And if they happen to have cabbage that night, grab it as your veg of choice because it is so buttery, tender, and divine!! If I could made cabbage taste this good, I would make it all the time! Even if you don't think you like cabbage you have to try it. Also terrific is their eggplant parmigiana. The owner batters and fries all of her eggplant fillets BY HAND. Their eggplant parm is the best I have ever had, and it is consistently good. Another thing we LOVE is that they start you off with complimentary crackers and an herby cheese spread, along with a little basket of bread. Speaking of consistency, the service is unfailingly good. The food is delicious, the view of Bristol Harbor is wonderful, the patio in the summer months is very inviting and in the winter both the bar and main dining room have a crackling fire to warm you up. My family and I were looking for a great seafood restaurant to celebrate my mom's birthday. With a toddler, it is not easy to find a great seafood restaurant that also is accommodating to families, and not in Newport. The food was excellent! I had the seafood scampi, which was a great portion and plenty of scallops, shrimp and crab. My family had baked scrod, seafood fra diovolo, grilled salmon, and fish and chips for the little one. Everyone was so happy with their meal, and experience. Our server was so sweet, especially with my daughter who likes to make a mess. The restaurant was very nice and we had beautiful weather to sit outside. The only downfall is that we weren't able to use our free drink coupon because they said they needed to see it before the check came out or sown thing so when you go here make sure you show them the coupon before you get our check! This place has improved since I frequented here back when I lived in Bristol. First of all the service was beyond excellent. Nothing makes or breaks your time out like the type of service you receive. Secondly, we had a fabulous dinner for two deal with a bottle of wine included. The butternut squash soup was to die for and the tollhouse cookie pie was one of the best old fashioned desserts that I have had in awhile. Lastly, the ambiance may be dated, but it is still has that old historic by the waterfront type of charm. We got our choice to sit by the large fireplace in the secluded bar area too. I can't wait to get back and sink my teeth into a warm gooey tollhouse cookie pie...and sure there will be a battle of the forks with it once more! read more

First visit for my birthday. Great location on bay. Saturday afternoon reservations totally unnecessary. We had the place to ourselves until 12:30 then three tables came in. Indoor/outdoor seating. Our server very friendly, helpful & efficient. Started with a margarita. Didn't taste good at all. I'm guessing well tequila. My bad for not asking for top shelf. For apps we ordered littlenecks & arancini. Best arancini ever. Crispy outside, melty inside with flavorful marinara. Littlenecks over cooked. Rubbery. Tasty broth & yummy grilled dipping toast. Entrees were fried oysters with fries & seafood scampi on cappalini. Oysters & fries were a home run. Best we've had once again. Oysters crispy outside & tender inside. Amazing. Fries were a unique cut. Cooked perfectly. Seafood scampi consisted of littlenecks, sea scallops & shrimp. Scallops & shrimp perfectly cooked. Littlenecks were the same clams from the appetizer. Disappointing. Pasta cooked well. Kentucky mud pie for dessert. A blend of toll house cookies & pecan pie with ice cream. Omg so good. We got two lobster rolls to go. I took the time to let our server know we wanted the rolls naked. Just lobster on a buttered roll. No filler. No mayo. No celery. No lettuce. We got home & no mayo but still loaded with celery & lettuce. Communication breakdown. There was a good amount of lobster I will say that. For $24 bucks there better be. My daughter and I had just finished exploring the Blithewold Mansion and we were looking for a place to eat. Thanks to Yelp reviews we decided to try this restaurant. It was pleasant from arriving at the location. The lovely porch with the view of the bay was inviting. We sat outside and enjoyed the cool breeze. Even when the rain passed through we didn't get wet. We split the fried artichoke appetizer. It was tasty and served a top two garnish sauces with a mayonaise type dipping sauce. Yum. We both enjoyed our first lobster rolls. Very meaty and not overly mixed with mayo but tastefully seasoned. The roll was jus the right amount of buttery grilled bread so not to overwhelm the lobster. We split a cream brulee that tasted fresh and the sugar was perfectly carmelized. Eddie was very nice and helpful. Would definitely return if we get back to Bristol. read more

I cannot believe I have never been to this hidden gem. My husband and I live in Somerset, MA and love Bristol. We have our usual spots, but we decided to give this place a shot on a gorgeous Wednesday night. We got a table right outside and had amazing views of the water and sunset. Right away we were given cheese, crackers and bread. They have a special every Wed and Thurs night- dinner for two- two entrees served with soup or salad and side plus a bottle of wine for $50. Truly cannot beat it. My husband and I both got a scrod dish and it was delicious. We were just so impressed with our entire experience from start to finish. Everything from the ambiance, to the service to the food was impeccable. We will definitely be back and recommend this spot to all our fellow East Bay friends. read more

Relaxing environment. The swordfish was excellent and the wait staff were very attentive. I would not recommend it for the view, it is across the street from the waterfront, but it is nice at sunset. Outdoors on the deck in the summer is quite enjoyable. An after-dinner stroll by the water (park across the street) is delightful. In the winter, ask to sit by the fire in the bar area, very cozy. Indoors is a bit dated as others have said, but it's not overwhelming, and easy to ignore. They do seafood and Italian very well. read more

Came here for a family birthday party and was excited to see that if you check in on Yelp you get a free glass of wine J. They set us up in our own room basically because there was a bar there but no one was there and a few small tables again with no one. They had a long table for us and the waitress immediately greeted everyone as they arrived. She told us about their Prefix meal menu which allowed us to get a few bottles of wine. The service was excellent, right on point. We ordered the calamari and stuffed mushrooms, both were excellent; the bread they provide on the table was super fresh, it was the basically soft Italian bread but was really good. The Littlenecks and red spicy sauce or white sauce seemed to be the biggest hit as most of us ordered this. The sauce was a perfect amount of spicy and came loaded with Littlenecks. The maple glazed salmon was cooked perfectly. This restaurant is a little dated inside but the location is great as the water is right across the street so if you are looking for a good meal at a reasonable price they did it right. read more

Disappointing in multiple ways. We had been here before and enjoyed their swordfish. We had reservations at 7 pm and were seated promptly. The server immediately told us they were out of swordfish. How could they run out of one of their most popular dishes so early on a Saturday evening? Disappointing. Two in the party ordered a special dish that had veal with vegetables including asparagus. The asparagus was extremely large in diameter, tough and woody. Disappointing. Both said the taste was bland. One ordered a veal dish which had eggplant and cheese. The taste was again very bland. Side orders of spaghetti had sauce that seemed to come out of a bottle or can. Another disappointment As we finished dinner, servers came by and stripped the dishes from the table without asking whether we wanted to take any leftovers home. Although this place is a little outdated, the food is beyond spectacular. Myself, my grandmother and my cousin all went out to dinner on a Friday night and man was it busy! We got right in because my grandparents are a regulars, so I'm not sure how the wait would have been if we didn't have connections. I got the chicken parm and man I must say it might have been named my new favorite chicken parm dish in Rhode Island. The piece of chicken itself is not too thick, but thick enough and covered in yummy bubbly cheese. The slice of meat is huge, so plan on asking for a to go box. The marinara sauce is yummy and their angel hair pasta is great. For dessert we shared the toll house cookie pie with vanilla ice cream. We were hoping for an actual cookie, however its served more as a slice of pie. Definitely will be back for some more. read more

We ate inside during winter. Comfortable table settings, very open space with a fire going. Service was really good, she knew her menu very well and was very on top of making sure we were getting taken care of properly. We had seafood casserole, baked tilapia and baked bay scallops, all very good. Some minor faults - the bread before dinner was cold and the clam chowder was a little too watery for the price. Didn't go for dessert but they had a limited menu that night anyway. It sounded good :). Had tea and coffee after dinner and an overall satisfying trip & would recommend it read more

I especially liked the cozy atmosphere where you can hear each other talk without shouting across a noisy table. I look forward to returning when the outside tables are set up. Two friends and I sailed into Bristol in the early evening, tied up, and went looking for a restaurant. The town is very pretty, and there are several restaurants near the waterfront. We decided on SS Dion because of the reviews in Yelp, though there only two (which should have been a warning). Service was fine, seating was comfortable, ambiance was pleasant, but the food was mediocre. The waitress, who was very attentive, told us there were only three portions of the scrod left. I went for the baked version; it turned out to be pretty standard, but that's okay for baked scrod. One friend ordered Scrod Dion, which should have been more interesting but was not much more flavorful than the baked version. The portions were small, but in both entres the scrod was cooked properly. My other friend had the Seafood Fra Diavolo; it was acceptable but nothing more. Bread accompanying the meal was soft and mushy. My glass of sauvignon blanc was thin. The bartender gets credit, however. He knew how to make a Negroni! All in all this is a very standard large seafood restaurant with an Italian slant, though there are other things on the menu as well. read more

I dine here often. The 2 dinners with a bottle of wine for $48 is a great deal. Soup or Salad. We got the tomato basil soup and salad with blue cheese. The soup was creamy, fresh and well seasoned. Nice salad with a chunky blue cheese. The grilled salmon is always cooked perfect. I have to order this most every time. We had the fried scallops, with creamy cole slaw and sweet potato fries. It was excellent. Lightly battered large sweet scallops. No need for tartar sauce. Fries were sweet and crispy. Service is always professional and efficient. Great bargain. read more

Outstanding Baked Bay Scallops I got the bay scallops, my husband got a steak. The scallops were so sweet and tender, with a nice crumb topping, My husband kept taking them. A bit pricy, but definitely worth every penny. The veggies were not over/under cooked, they were succulent asparagus, and when I told my server I could have eaten more, they brought more at no extra charge. The manager, I think owned the place, he was very nice to come to our table, and asked if there was anything else needed; how was everything?. Everything is made to order, so you do wait a bit, but a nice drink, great bread and apps made this place a 5 star without a doubt. The wait staff were spot on, and when our server was in the kitchen, another server filed up our water glass on their way by and brought us more bread and butter. Not a good experience on 7-3-2017 (night before the 4th) and I am a Bristolian. I have been going to the SS Dion on the 3rd of July for about 15 years now, this year we unfortunately had seating inside. Sitting near a window at the far end of the restaurant there were flies and moth's (multiples of each) flying around. It was very dusty as well. There a/c must have been on really low since it was warm and not comfortable in the restaurant. My significant other ordered a lobster roll and the lobster was not chill cold nor mixed with anything, even a light mayo would have done. The lobster did not taste fresh at all. Awful experience and a once tradition will end in 2017. Lobster Pot will be my selection of choice for all upcoming 3rd of July's. read more

Wish I could give it 10 stars. We sat inside and it was the perfect date night downtown. Our server was awesome, the atmosphere was perfect, and the food was out of this world. I got the Sirloin steak. Best steak I've ever eaten at a restaurant. Cooked perfectly (medium rare), and it came with two sides AND a soup/salad. He got the Salmon, which he loved, also with two sides and a soup/salad. We both got the clam chowder and absolutely loved it. Everything about this experience was perfect. I ordered a coffee before we ordered the two special dinner and the waitress looked at me and said it comes with wine.. "are you going to drink it"? The food was average nothing special. If you come here for the water view, you should note that the restaurant is actually across a busy street from the water and Independence Park. So, for an obstructed water view, you either need to get a table on the deck (busy and right on the street) or one of the few interior tables by a window. Knowing this, I requested a window table when making reservations only to arrive and find we were seated at a table in the back by the kitchen and next to a large group with noisy kids. When I asked about an alternative table, I was told I should have requested that when making my reservation, which, of course, I had. I guess I had been lucky in my previous visits (probably on slower nights), but I wouldn't stay again under the same circumstances. The food and service are decent, but not compelling enough to offset the interior ambiance. read more

I went there tonight for the second time. The first time was really good, I had the lobster caprese salad. Tonight I had the crab cakes. You could tell it was prefab food, not local food. The service the first time I went was amazing, but there weren't many people there. Tonight the service was beyond horrible. Our server sped around the restaurant while accomplishing nothing and hardly checked in with us. It was over 10 minutes until she came to the table the first time. It took forever to place our order. We arrived shortly after 7pm and we finally ate dinner at 8:25. That is ridiculous, especially since we had our children with us. After we had to ask another server to please ask our server to bring the check, she totalled it wrong. It is all hand written, no computers apparently. She over charged us $11.00. I don't think I will be returning in fear that I would get that server again. What a disappointment. read more
