Don't let the looks or the location fool you, this place is delish. It's in a slightly sketchy looking strip mall but once you get inside you completely forget about that little detail. I arrived right before the dinner rush and the place filled up quick. The chicken pad Thai portion was really big. It ended up being 2.5 meals for me. It was really good and had a lot of flavor. I must say this was some of the best pad Thai I've had in a while. I got it to go but it was so delicious and the flavors were balanced out perfectly and evenly. This was a spontaneous spot to try out and surprisingly it was a great place. I'm pretty picky with the vegetables they put in my pad see ew and both Chinese and American broccoli were in this! He told me I got no heat but gave me a two different sauces to spice it up, one was mild and the other was medium. I also ordered sticky rice with peanut sauce. One of my coworkers asked me how this place was. As a Portland native he was driven off from parking in such a seedy looking strip mall. It's a few miles from our office off Sandy and it is indeed questionable looking but if you like a spicy curry, you'll enjoy the mussaman or panang curry. We tried both with chicken and even the mild has quite a kick to it. Usually the spice level on mussaman scares me off but I'm glad I tried it. Similar to my go to yellow curry, but with peanuts and a spiciness that I quickly adjusted to. Wish the seeds and bits from the pepper were left out. Hole in the wall deliciousness! So glad we stopped in. Small restaurant with some booths and tables. The waiter was nice, quick, and friendly. We got the shrimp salad rolls, drunken noodles, the yakisoba drunken noodles, and crab fried rice to go. The salad rolls and all of the veggies were so fresh and crisp! I loved the drunken noodles with medium spice. It was the perfect amount of heat to feel but still enjoy. If you like it hot hot then go hot! My all time favorite thai restaurant, tucked away in a small neighborhood so its a very if you know you know spot. Friendly staff and they recognize me whenever I dine in lol. Pad see ew- stir fry soy sauce noodle and is perfectly chewy I'd take this over pad thai any day. Panang curry is not your typical curry the kaffir lime leaves really oomph up the flavor, its savory limey slightly sweet with a hint of coconut very well balanced soooo good on a cold day with hot rice. Salt & pepper Calamari - There was more breading than the squid itself, it was crunchy but very greasy like oil dripping greasy so this is a pass for me. Crab Puffs- can be a hit or miss sometimes I don't really mind it. They also have chef special menu and it changes occasionally I think. We arrived at 6:30 on a Friday night and had a table. Five minutes later people were waiting. We started with the egg rolls. Perfectly fried and hot. I ordered Thai basil fried rice medium spice with chicken and my wife Thai basil stir fry with pork. My dish was perfectly spiced a little hot loaded with chicken and veggies. One of the better Thai places I've been to in Portland. It's pretty out of the way in a strip mall out by the airport. Pretty standard menu, they have a few special soups - we tried the seafood Tom Yum & Red Curry w/ Duck. The Thai hot actually has some serious heat (which def isn't the case at most Thai places I've been to) and even regular hot is still pretty spicy. The tom yum had a pretty good portion of mussels, squid & shrimp. The Duck curry had a good amount of duck but a ridiculous amount of cherry tomatoes and pineapples which I am not in the biggest fan of in curries and wished there was more bell pepper & potato instead. read more

BAI the way, this place is a hidden gem! A family-run restaurant with lots of great Thai food! We were shopping at Costco and got hungry. This was the first place that popped up on Yelp and everyone had glowing 5-star reviews. Now I know why... We ordered two specials on the board: Tom Yum Noodle- 5/5 - bright and warm on a cold day. Khao Soi- 5/5 - I'm a Khao soi addict and it was really, really good! It is not always on the Thai menus so I was so glad it was there. Location is a bit sketchy in a desolate strip mall. But don't let that stop you. It is all about the food. Service was good but I had to remind the server about our Thai Ice tea. Had dinner a Sa Bai Thai Cuisine yesterday evening. So delicious! We had several people in our party. We ordered Tom Ka soup, one with tofu and one with chicken. Both excellent but they tasted quite different from one another. We loved that! The chicken had large wedged of tomato and the tofu had more cabbage. We also ordered Pad Thai, Green Curry, Stir Fried Garlic (basically a very garlicky stir fry of various veggies and the evening special, Khao Soi. All were excellent! We were in the Portland area overnight and needed dinner. We enjoy Thai food, and after reading the reviews we thought we'd give Sa Bai a try. Don't let the locale dissuade you. They do a pretty good business it seemed, both on eat-in and carry-out. We started our meal with the fresh salad rolls with tofu as the protein. The presentation on the plate was beautiful, the rolls were on a little bed of finely shredded cabbage with other greens and flowers. The peanut dipping sauce for the rolls was very flavorful and an ample portion. Our server explained that their "mild" main dishes were sriracha hot -- good to know! I ordered mild green curry and my honey ordered medium basil stir fry, subbing broccoli for the mushrooms. Both dishes were very good and nice size portions. We found Sa Bai Thai while I was scrolling Yelp, the reviews were fantastic so we gave it a shot. Now, this is our regular Thai spot. We have eaten inside and taken it to go and every single time it is easily a 10/10. Every single dish I have gotten here has been outstanding. The prices are fantastic (imo) for the portion, quality, and taste and frankly, I'd probably pay more. Today we went in around 2 o'clock. It was a seat yourself day, and there were a handful of tables already spoken for. The service was fantastic as usual throughout our entire meal. We tried the combo appetizer because we couldn't decide on a specific starter and I am SO glad we did. It comes with a salad roll cut in half (10/10), two egg rolls (10/10), two crab puffs (12/10), two chicken satay (8/10), and two shrimp in the blanket (10/10) all served with thai peanut sauce (10/10), cucumber sauce (10/10) and sweet and sour sauce (10/10) all for $15.50. Everything was absolutely delicious but my favorite were the crab puffs. They are sooooooo flavorful & the crab to cream cheese ratio is sheer perfection. We split the Tom Kah soup and it is a home run every time. The aromatics from the lemongrass and ginger come through with every spoonful without being overpowering. We get it with tofu and it soaks up the broth just perfectly while still maintaining its texture. It's filled with veggies too, which we love. Now, to the show stopper... The pad see ew. We always get chicken and we always get extra noods. This dish is actual perfection. The noodles are super sauced up in the most flavorful, delicious, dark sauce and this dish is filled with veggies. The egg is always cooked well too, which I love. The portions are massive so we leave with a nice little goodie bag of leftovers. Not only is the food great left over but so is the Thai tea! It's $5 for the largest glass of Thai ice tea you will ever see. I drink about half and when filling up my to go cup with the rest, it fills to the top. It's delicious, not too sweet & the perfect addition to any entree. We frequently just stop by for Thai teas after our Costco trips. The parking lot is large so parking has never been an issue for us. All in all. This is a true hidden gem that should be on everyone's must try list! read more

We were in the area and decided to stop by at Sa Bai Thai due to its good reviews, and I'm glad we tried it! The location is an unassuming strip mall on the outside but inside it had a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. The service staff was very friendly and accommodating, and we didn't have to wait long for our food. The salad rolls were delicious, made with fresh veggies and tasty tofu and served with a savory peanut sauce which had just a little bit of spiciness to it. The Thai Red Curry was flavorful, with plenty of chicken, Thai and Chinese eggplants, Bamboo shoots and red and green pepper slices. The sauce was savory and not too "liquidy", with just the right consistency and flavor. The portion sizes were good and the price was very reasonable. I found this place a few miles east of the airport because my usual place was too far away. I was sure glad I did, because my salmon pumpkin curry was perfect! The salmon was cooked just right with several vegetables, including pumpkin and peppers, and all over the jasmine rice. Chefs kiss! I also had some jasmine tea which accompanied it very well. I will stop by here and try a different dish next time I'm in town, because I noticed everybody else's dishes from Thai basil, to satays, and other stirfry looked amazing.
