Great staff and amazing food! Loved the pizza here. They have the mamas old fashion which is margherita pizza and also the tradition which is a regular pie. The large pie came with 8 slices. They also have a variety of pasta dishes and entrees. You walk down a flight of stairs to get to the restaurant. The dining experience is very upscale and dim light for a nice ambiance. The wait staff was helpful and will answer any questions you have. They were attentive with drinks as well. I enjoyed dining here. I've been here twice already and plan to come back again! read more

There are so many excellent pizza joints in the 5 boroughs of NYC and on Long Island. This is definitely one of the better spots in Queens and another awesome choice to add into your rotation. Their regular slice with fresh mozzarella is a standout. The marinara slice is also off the hook delicious. There is plenty of seating available and usually the wait, if any, is minimal. When it comes to pizza on the Broadway side of astoria Sac's and Politos pizza is the best pizza hands down. With Politos being great but not what it was 10 years ago, they still make a decent pie of pizza. Sac's pizza now is amazing! They been killing the competition for years putting out excellent pizza and solid pasta dishes. The pizza is quite unique-thin crust & outstanding cheese and sauce. Sacs also has a full menu for lunch and dinner. During the summer they feature fresh produce from their country garden. Such a great, family run pizza spot great for locals & newbies in the area. My girlfriend and I ate here a few days ago and it was phenomenal. My gf got the smoked salmon raviolis, I got the lobster and crab raviolis, and they were both so bomb! We also got a large pizza (be aware, it is VERY large) that was great to reheat later and have as a late night snack. Overall wonderful experience. My husband and I went for Valentine's Day, and even though they had a valentines day menu, there was plenty of options for everybody. We had baked clams and a Caesar salad, and then my meal was potato ravioli with a caramelized onion, honey sauce, which was out of this world. The staff is super friendly and attentive, the atmosphere elegant yet casual at the same time The drinks , the appetizers and dinner were served so quickly , we were asked often if we needed anything I love the " new" Sacs Place I ordered the Bocconcini Mozzarella for appetizer - I didn't even want to eat it - it was such a work of art on my plate !! However of course I did eat and it as delicious ! For dinner I had the Chicken Napoletano which consisted of chicken with prosciutto and eggplant and melted mozzarella in a franchaise sauce - again another work of art in my plate ! On this gloomy Thursday, the staff at one of my locations worked hard. I wanted to reward them and what's better than pizza? Well, maybe money, but who wants money when there's pizza....right? So the staff raved about Sac's Place. I figured, if it's a sure thing, than why not? I called to be safe and spoke to the owner over the phone. It's nice they took card, this made things easier. I placed the ordered and the owner bragged about the natural ingredients. They use real mozzarella and fresh sauces. He said it was worth the price. There seemed to be a lot of people praising this pizza. But the only proof I need was to try it. It didn't take long for the delivery to come. He was polite and made me take it out for safety. It's not said enough, but I loved the digital receipt. This makes it easier to break down and helps for when I have to review it. Sometimes, the small details count. But the biggest detail was the taste! Was all the talk backed up by flavor? The answer was, yes! The pizza is delicious. I couldn't believe the flavor. I loved the real mozzarella and the sausages they used. I only wanted one slice but ended up eating two it was so good. I just don't understand why they chose that particular location, I think if you're not a regular, or know Sac's history in Astoria, you'll have a tough time finding the spot. Domenico was great from start to finish - from our menu selection, layout preferences, to accommodating us day-of. Ordered two large pizza pies for delivery through Yelp. One was pineapple with ham and the other was a regular with just cheese and basil. After a little over an hour, the food finally came...even though my delivery location wasn't too far from the restaurant. I was disappointed because it lacked flavor and the bottom of the pizza was a bit soggy. There wasn't much sauce at all and the cheese flavor wasn't really what I expected. I was expecting much more after reading such high reviews but it's one of my least favorite pizzas I've eaten. The total was close to $40 including tips and tax. I ordered a Large pie with a side order of garlic knots, when i saw that the counter person did not give me any marina sauce with the garlic knots i then requested marina sauce. I have lived in this area for over 20 years. I driven past this restaurant 100's of times. I have a love for Italian food. I have had my favorite dish from several different restaurants. But, I must say the "Chicken Francese" from SACS is my top choice right now. It really melts in your mouth like butter and you get such a healthy portion for one person you can actually share it. It is a little bit on the pricey side considering some of the places I have been to. Well worth the price. For this being my first time trying this restaurant I must say they definitely left a great first impression on me. I will return again for another visit and try some of there other dishes. I gave Sac's 5 Stars based off excellent quality, good service and creative concept. Sac's place has been open since 1989, went under major renovations in 1998. They cook pies in their coal fired oven which ranges anywhere from 800-1000 degrees. Keep in mind that finding coal fired pizza these days in the 5 boroughs isn't easy. There's only a handful of places in Manhattan to still have a coal fired oven, so Sac's is the only place in Queens to have it. It's a dying breed in an age where wood burning ovens have taken over, as the new trendy spots have become more popular. Here's where things get creative: After cooking pizza pies in the coal fired oven, they finish off the personal slices in the gas oven. Two different types of cheeses are used on the plain slice. They use homemade fresh mozzarella, and low moisture mozzarella creating a perfect blend for a cheese stretch after taking that first bite. The dollops of tomato sauce smeared on the plain slice gives the slice a personality. It's different than your quintessential NY plain slice in terms of the sauce. The normal NY slice spreads sauce first then the puts the cheese on top. With the plain slice at Sac's, there's spots of sauce all over the slice, which allows you to experience the cheese blend on its own, and with the sauce at the same time. The dough is thin and airy, the sauce is sweet and tangy. The char from coal fired oven causes the dough to have a remarkable crunch. The GM Luis is a very good guy, he gave me the rundown on the history of Sac's place. He was very detailed about the coal fired oven and how it works. It takes a lot of maintenance, but it's all worth it in the end. I appreciate the warm hospitality from Luis, and the pizza makers. They gave good suggestions on what to get for next time. And there will most definitely be a next time for me. I loved Sac's place, and I'll be coming back for more this year. Pro Tip: If you like ricotta cheese, I highly suggest getting the white slice. So I'm visiting my cousin in NYC and he asks me what I want for lunch and before he can finish his sentence I blurt out "Pizza!" As a pizza aficionado, I take full advantage of my visits to NYC which typically means we end up chowing down a slice while walking around after bar-hopping. I popped into Sacs while my cousin waited outside. The place is old school, small brick oven in back and some chrome/black tables in a small eating area. The two slices of plain za were really interesting looking: very red sauce with oblong shapes of white cheese. Biting into the slice revealed fresh, soft mozzerella and fresh tomatoes. I'm thinking they must be using some type of fresher muzz and maybe doing a fresh, crushed tomato sauce instead of the typical pizza sauce. Crust was good, a bit crisp with some chewiness, just about right. I've done some of the best pizza in the country: Totonnos, Lombardis, Rays (NY) and Pepes/Sallys (New Haven) so I think I know my pies. We found Sac's Place by accident, but we are glad we did. Upon entering we were greeted by a young woman and shown to a table. Since it was early she had time to chat. She told us it is a family business, which we liked. On to the food. The bread was fantastic. Some with a light coating of tomato sauce some plain for butter. My Granddaughter ordered the Chicken Parmigiano with Spaghetti. It was a huge plate and she's a tiny young lady, but she managed to eat the whole thing. She used the last of the bread to soak up the sauce from her plate. It was that good. I ordered the Veal Domenico. I didn't know exactly what it was. Veal, prosciutto, cheese and a lovely, lovely sauce. I managed to eat the whole thing, except some of the spaghetti. It was definitely one of the best meals I had in New York. Haven't been to Sac's since they were my go-to pizza place right down the corner from my first apartment in Astoria. Hadn't seen Dom, one of the owners, in over a decade and we somehow recognized each other, struck up a conversation and in no time, the two large pies were in front of my large group of hungry kids and we were in pizza heaven. The pizza was good and the space was unique, if not all that garden-like. There was a playlist on that included such gems as 'With Arms Wide Open' by Creed which made me LOL. It was a solidly serviceable experience until we got the bill and saw that they were charging $12 a pop for High Noon hard seltzers (there were no prices listed at the bar). We thought that surely it was a mistake, and politely questioned the accuracy, which seemingly enraged the owner, who went on a tirade about the economy and the oppression of having to pay workers $15 an hour. The hostility was unnerving so we let it go and paid, but will not be returning. If you are looking for a classy event space in Astoria or just a night out for dinner, we highly recommend Sacs. We recently held a private dinner event there for a baptism. Anthony, the owner, was a pleasure to work with. He made the whole process for planning the event so easy and was super helpful. We had a group of around 40 people including some babies, everyone had a blast and were raving about the delicious food/service. I had mentioned to Anthony that a few of our guest had some dietary restrictions and he personally updated each dish on our menu to be friendly for those guests AND personally took their orders. My friends said they have never felt so accommodated at a private event, and appreciated how attentive the service was. We all had a fantastic time. We will definitely be using Sacs for future events. They also have an option for valet parking which was a great perk. Sacs Place would be a great choice for any party - rehearsal dinner, baptism, anniversary, baby shower... I especially like that the decor is beautiful so you really don't have to worry about putting up much for decorations (we used balloons and photos for the table). The tile work when you first walk in is beautiful and the bathrooms are granite with a stylish floral wallpaper (bathroom includes a tastefully placed changing table if you're looking for a party that is kid friendly, if you aren't then you won't even notice the changing table). On this particular Saturday for lunch, we ordered: Mama's old fashioned pizza with pepperoni and mushroom Spinach ravioli House salad Cappuccino The pizza was good, but do eat it quiickly as it gets soggy fast. The spinach ravioli was a huge dish (their ravioli are the size of a post it note). The food is pretty consistent and good, so I wouldn't hesitate to come again.
