Sorry, total garbage. This place is subsisting on reputation alone. We ordered a pasta dish and pizza. The pasta was undercooked and drenched in olive oil. The pizza at the pizza joint across the street from me is better. I sent the pasta dish back and a manager came to my table and lectured me about how they sold a hundred of these dishes the day before. That's right dude, I'm wrong, not your garbage food. Sac's place has some really tasty pizza, a laid back atmosphere, and friendly staffers. They're a fixture of the Astoria neighborhood restaurant scene. On this particular Saturday for lunch, we ordered: Mama's old fashioned pizza with pepperoni and mushroom Spinach ravioli House salad Cappuccino The pizza was good, but do eat it quiickly as it gets soggy fast. The spinach ravioli was a huge dish (their ravioli are the size of a post it note). The food is pretty consistent and good, so I wouldn't hesitate to come again. Go straight to the small door on the left just for the pizza slices. It's smaller seating, but faster service and the individual slices seem crispier and tastier. I've ordered a full pie while eating in the dining area and it didn't taste as good. They use very fresh ingredients on their slices. Buffalo mozzarella and large pieces of basil. The white pizza is fantastic, just the right ratio of ricotta to mozzarella with a generous drizzle of olive oil and oregano. Even their plain slices have some nice cheese on top. Their sauce isn't too acidic either. I'd like to try some of their pasta dishes and their ricotta pancakes from their brunch menu. read more

The "garlic" knots were charred.... absolutely jet black on the bottom and 2 out of the 6 were charred on the top as well ...... old, inedible, garbage. The black surface area on the bottom of dough was falling off the knot as the dough was hard as a rock. NO GARLIC was incorporated and if there was any olive oil, it evaporated when the knots were cremated in the oven. Sac's place is a great place normally - I think the food is solid, it's one of my go-to places for pizza. However, I paid 65/person for the apparently famous annual pig roast, and that was a complete waste of money. The pork was SO DRY and overcooked, it was nearly inedible without the sauce. The portions of pork per person were tiny. We also had plates of vegetables, which were tiny per person. Essentially, it's $65/person for a tiny amount of overcooked food. It seemed like an event in which people didn't really come for the food, and only came to drink. I had wished I known that because the food was subpar at best. I'm really disappointed by the pig roast, and it has completely colored my opinion to eat at sacs again in the future. I am truly disappointed. read more

Great pizza. Pretty low key. Service was weird, there was a private party happening in main dining area and I was there at a weird time (between lunch and dinner). No one came over with menus or water for 10 min so I got up and asked for it but once I sat back down service got better. Maybe they were distracted by the large party or there was a shift change. Anyway the pizzas great. Fresh ingredients with a chewy dough. I don't always want a chewy dough but this time it worked well with the thickness of crust. Very thin on the pizza part with a slightly bubbly crust. Sometimes when pizzas super thin it needs a chewy crust so the dough doesn't get too soggy or fall apart from the sauce. read more

I have been ordering from Sac's almost everyday since they opened in their new location, I'm sad I didn't get to visit them in their old location but elated about having them on the same street I live on. I walked by and decided to stop by for pizza, I walked out really happy, Anthony and Domenico, brothers who run the place together are a hoot. So, friendly service and excellent pizza, they didn't have their liquor license for a couple of weeks so the restaurant seemed a bit off but now the bar is full and the restaurant is complete. Highly recommend. You can taste the fresh ingredients and the drinks are strong so I always walk out full and fuddled. read more

Shamala- pizza-litza-dingdang. Sacramone's got it going on. This guy built his coal fired oven in this spot 30 years ago and he is still going strong. This is an excellent pie from top to bottom. The center of the pie is well cooked with a crisp bite. Outer crust is light and flavorful. Sauce is bright and tangy with a good balance of sweet & acid. Cheese is very good. Toppings were plentiful and tasty. This is a quintacential NYC pie made by a true NYC pie guy in a hand built coal fired oven. Spot on. read more

Didn't think I'd be able to find a brick oven pizza in Astoria, but I sure did and I am super happy that I did! Sacs offers three different sizes for their pizzas, small where you can't split the toppings, medium where you can split the toppings and a large which is the only size you can order if you're looking to order a sicilian pie! Ordered a medium pie with prosciutto and sausage split right down the middle, a side of penne a la vodka, 2 meatballs and a special creme brulee cheesecake. So much good stuff happening in my mouth. You are first started off with bread which is full of flavor and I absolutely love love love. Paired with the penne a la vodka sauce, even better. I wasn't a big fan of the meatballs though, paid per piece and it just felt a little lacking. The pizza was so large for two that it left us with plenty of leftovers. I wish it would have been a little bit more burnt because I love my brick oven pizza to a crisp, but it was good enough. The creme brulee cheesecake was one thing that tied the meal together and bumped this review from a 3 to a 4. It is very hard to find a good dessert in an Italian restaurant other than the classic items that they offer so to find a bit of a twist and for it to be made very well, won my heart over! read more

It's been a while since we've been back to Sac's Place due to Covid, but today was the day! Nice addition, they now have a lunch menu which works great for my husband & I as we usually can't finish our meal! Of course we started our lunch with the baked clams off the regular menu. Always the best. We went with the lunch menu which offers a 2 course meal for $14.00. We both chose the salads as our first course, fresh and delicious. For our entrees I had Lemon & Mushroom chicken cutlet in a light sauce and my husband chose the Chicken Parmesan. Both were hardy portions and both delicious! There are several other options on both the lunch and the regular menus that are very tempting as well! The ambiance of the restaurant is always welcoming as is the staff who are mostly family. Tables are also a good distance from one another which is important during this Covid pandemic. We highly recommend a visit if you've never tried them before! read more

I've been coming here for a few months since moving over this way. The pizza is great, however this review is more so about what I witnessed from what I'd presume is the owner. Today a man came in here on a particularly cold day, looking to get warm, he was clearly homeless. The owner didn't say much when the man mentioned he was hungry, just quietly provided him with chicken soup and some bread. This is my updated review for Sac's, as my original review was from about 3 years ago, so its time to update (keeping my review at 5 stars :) ) I have dined at Sac's for pizza, dinner and brunch, so I will share my opinion on all. I am blessed enough to live down the block from Sac's so I've never gotten delivery (which I see that a lot of neg. reviews are coming from. Sad- I hope they resolve this). I've gotten slices at the counter, and pies picked up. Never a bad experience. Regular, margherita, Sicilian, white slices are all exceptional. You cant go wrong. They use a coal oven, so the pizza is sort of a fusion of regular NY pizza, and brick oven. It's truly one of a kind. Some of the best pizza I've ever had, and probably will ever have. 5 stats alone for the pizza. Dining in: I'll start with some general comments -the waiters are amazing. They are so down to earth and kind. Some times the service is a bit slow, however its not a matter of the server not caring or not noticing. Maybe they need to work on staffing or server sectioning. Also the bus boys are also very kind, and also check up on how the food is when they come to re-fill water etc. -on Thursdays they offer half price bottles of wine. This offer comes and goes, so I would check beforehand if you're coming specifically for this -on most of the pastas and entrees they offer a "half portion". I love that they offer this. It's so helpful if you want to share a few items, don't want to eat too much, or want to save money! More restaurants should do this! More onto specifics of what I've tried: -4 cheese gnocci: the best I've ever had. The gnocchi is homemade and seriously delicious. I could dream about this dish for hours. You will not be disappointed -ravioli: good, but nothing to rave about. If you like ravioli you will be happy -Cesar salad: good as an entree if you want to add chicken/shrimp. Also good to share. Perfect amt. of dressing, and you can tell it's home made. -eggplant parm: this was pretty disappointing actually. Tasted like more of a plate of breadcrumbs than eggplant. I would suggest they cut the eggplant thicker, or just coat the eggplant in eggs/flour like other places and skip the breadcrumbs. I hope they tweak this recipe. My mom thought the same thing when she ordered it months later. Now onto brunch: My boyfriends parents were in town and we thought Sac's would be a great place to take them, and it was! The brunch pizza's were amazing, and surprisingly not too heavy. It's nice they are expanding to brunch now. Sac's is a great place. I randomly selected Sac's place on a google search when my original catering plans fell apart for NYE. Many restaurants were closed early on NYE but not here. I needed to order a few dishes for 25 guests and Anthony was very helpful with finalizing the selections. My order was ready at the time I specified. I was afraid of transporting such large trays of food from queens to the city but everything was very well-packaged and nothing spilled. All the pasta dishes were delicious and my guests were pleased. Thank you Sac's for saving me as I was going through a panic attack during this last minute search. The food is bad at all, my complaint is that they lack kids menu . I ordered a spaghetti w/ meatball for my son and they charged me the spaghetti $$15 plus another $7 for the meatballs. Last Sunday, we spent $26 plus tip on a medium Sicilian pie that was delivered less than 20 minutes after hitting submit on GrubHub. The dough was BARELY cookie, cheese was sloppily thrown on. I have only had pizza here. This place offers the freshest tasting slices of pizza. The crust is very thin, covered with fresh crushed tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella cheese. It's really a type of pizza which tastes the best when eaten in the restaurant. For me it really wouldn't taste that good if I took it home to eat. They offer a nice menu. I re-visited Sac's Place last week and was delighted by the food ! I had to return this week to get a large order To-Go for friends in Manhattan. The watercress salad with small chick peas, a bit of purple onion and goat cheese, lightly dressed, was sublime. Something so "simple" but perfect. Followed by my first ever tortellacci ! theirs was veal with a marvelous smokey flavor so light and delicate, the pillow of homemade pasta melted in my mouth. I've never been to the physical location, but have ordered delivery from Sac's countless time and I've never changed my order: personal white pizza with extra fresh mozzarella cheese. I initially didn't wanna bother with this place, but after seeing it rated very highly by one pizza expert and realizing that its one of the few coal-oven places that isn't descended from Lombardi's, I decided to check it out with a few friends. Went in between lunch and dinner, and we were the only ones in the place aside from a few employees eating and maybe one other table. Service was nothing to write home about, but not terrible either. Atmosphere was ok, good for a pizzeria and I liked the glass room right on the street that wasn't overheated. We decided just to grab a large cheese pie to keep things basic, although it interesting to note that to add fresh garlic to a pie costs as much as adding shrimp for some dumb reason. The pizza looked great coming out, and tasted equally great. The mozzarella was defintiely homemade, and had a nice flavor; they layered it under and on top of the sauce, which was a nice touch. The crust had the characteristic char of a coal oven, and although I prefer it to be more well done, it also had a fluffiness at the edges. The sauce stood out very well and brought everything together as it was sweet and light, with a nice flavor of basil added. The basic toppings we asked for came out on little dishes which was a nice touch. The cheese was actually freshly grated romano which was a change of pace, and it matched the sweet sauce perfectly. The combination of all this combined into a great pie, one I would be willing to travel back for. So how does this place stack up against the other coal giants? Pretty well, actually. I like it better than John's, Lombardi's, and Denino's. However, I did like Patsy's better than it as well as some of the newer coal-hybrids, but granted I haven't tried Grimaldi's yet. I really really really like this place. I am not a pizza person, but when I do feel in the mood, I'm very much into coal-oven. So yummy. I'd opt for the Mama's pizza (margarita) more than anything else on the menu. Wasn't thrilled with their pasta fagioli soup - just tomato soup, kidney beans, and fettucini. Not special. The pizza is the real special treat, and the fact that you can order a 10'' and not some massive pie like every other pizza joint. Sac's is officially my favorite Astoria pizza place. read more

This is the best pizza in the neighborhood hands down. I recently moved from Ditmars down to 30th Ave, and was looking to find a new go-to delivery spot. I must have tried about 4 or 5 pizza spots before landing on this one randomly on Grubhub. Since then I order from here at least once or twice a month. I always get the pepperoni pie. Always delivered fresh, hot, and faster than I expect. The crust is super thin, the sauce is flavorful and more on the tart side which I like. They use fresh mozz on the pie which is fantastic. Usually, neighborhood pizza joints use some other cheese that looks overly "orange" to me. A pie is a little pricier than what you'd expect (easily going north of $20), but is SO worth it. I hope to stop in one of these days and dine in. If there's any downside, I had once ordered some pasta one time (penne ala vodka) and I thought it was kind of mediocre. read more

This is real pizza and real ingredients. Past by this place a million times (my bad). But now that I found this place, I won't go to another. The pizza is made with fresh mozzarella and imported tomatoes so the pie tastes different then every other place. This is like gourmet pizza to sit down and enjoy, not eat and walk with. Been coming here for years mostly on the pizza side of this location . The location is divided into two sections one is the restaurant and the other is the pizza parlour. Regardless from either side you can see what the other side is like. The Pizza is made there and you can see the types of ingredients that are being used and how they cook it too from start to finish. For the pizza parlour side they have the typical slices such as plain, and Sicilian slices as well as the mama's pizza which holds nothing but the tomato sauce. They also have white pizza and garlic knots. they have another slice which might be a spinach slice not sure haha. All the pizzas taste fresh and great considering they are always making a pie almost every 15 mins from what i can tell. you can also notice how many order go out. The restaurant side is great the for dates and when you want to enjoy a night out. The service is great and the owners are always on site and great to talk to they are nice people. When you go they are usually the first you notice when you enter because they are watching to make sure everything is running well. read more

Last time I was at Sac's savoring one of the daily specials - a salad of sliced Granny Smith apples from the family farm with goat cheese and honey, complete with homemade ravioli, a glass of sparkling red wine and a Sicilian slice because why not, I looked around the room and came to a realization: All the hardcore locals come here because it's just the best, and more Astoria converts need to give this place a chance. The menu is a perfect mix of casual gourmet and old school Italian. I love the four-cheese gnocchi as well as their ravioli with red peppers in a creamy pink sauce. The pasta primavera is clean and super fresh. That family farm thing really kicks their dishes to a whole new level. Pizza-wise...there is no equal. As fun as Rizzo's thin crust pizza is, it just can't compare with Sac's wide selection of crusts, toppings, fillings. Everything from grandma with sauce on top of cheese, to sauteed portobello and pineapple, to an incredible slice of Sicilian with your entree because why not. If you're craving a slice without the service, you can cross the restaurant to the super-casual pizza counter, and either sit at a little table or waltz down Broadway in full New York mode with a perfect slice on your paper plate. Have wanted to try for a while so finally ordered a pie. Got a meatball pie with onion and mushroom. Delivery was on time. Pizza was pretty good. My complaint is that the meatball wasn't meatball it was ground beef. I was expecting actual meatballs but it is literally ground beef and the beef is cooked in some kind of sweet/spice sauce that doesn't work with the pizza. It threw off the pie.
