This was a great suggestion for a holiday dinner with coworkers! I love the options of tables and space. There were 2 rooms. We were in the livelier back room listening to live music. There were too many options to choose from on the menu. I tend to stick with the basics when given too many options. I think I made a good choice with the Koobideh Kabob to compare with other Persian restaurants. It was delicious! It included saffron rice and a charbroiled tomato. It was a good portion of food with leftovers for the next day. I tried the spicy basil margarita. It was refreshing, a bit more sour than I expected but it's hard to go wrong with a margarita. The waiter was very helpful and patient with a larger group. I also tasted some of the salmon kabob which was tasty as well, not dry. My coworker mentioned the chicken shish kabob was juicy and tender. There's valet and street metered parking. There's some free street parking after 6pm in the residential area. I'm excited to see that there's another Sadaf closer in Bevery Hills. I'm hoping I can try more dishes at this location soon. read more

Sept 21, 2024, dinner Came here for dinner on a Saturday evening to treat an old classmate. This is a fine-dining Iranian restaurant. Except for the two glasses of Chardonnay that I ordered (St. Francis & Hess) , everything was wonderful. The St Francis was flat. And the Hess, it was so-so. SERVICE First Rate: From the hostess, to our server and the bussers. SIZE of the Restaurant: Huge. Also there is a front dining area and a large backdining area. Dining tables are spaced a good distance from each other. MUSIC: Before I came here, I'm glad that I did not see that they have live music. Otherwise, I would skip this place. But I like their music. It was cool (they had a sax player) and it was not intrusive at all. APPETIZERS My friend and I shared an order of their Hummus. The Hummus came with Pita Bread and both were delicious. I should have checked this restaurant on youtube before I came here. They are featured in KCal News 6 years ago. The owner brought some dishes -- including several appetizers. They seemed appetizing. Next time, I will order their appetizer sampler. MAIN COURSES. I browsed in the menu to see what else I could order besides a Koobideh, and I was pleasantly surprised that they offer Ghormeh Sabzi (an Iranian herb stew). So I ordered that and a side of Koobideh. They were both delicious. The Ghormeh Sabzi came with rice topped with tahdig, Iranian crispy rice. My friend ordered a Chicken Kabob. DESSERT For dessert, we ordered their Persian ice-cream to share. And we were pleasantly surprised that they served it in in separate containers-- one for me and one for my friend. And it was delicious as well. RESTROOM The ladies room only had two, or maybe, three stalls. That's not much for a huge place. But I guess they are like Musso-&-Frank. I've been coming to Sadaf for a long time, and the reason is simple: exceptional hospitality, incredible service, and food that's unbelievable. From management down, it's superior. I meet with my friends here for business at least twice a week. I've given Sadaf multiple chances, and unfortunately it's just too inconsistent to justify the prices they charge. The food is very hit or miss. One delivery order arrived with the wrong rice, which was extremely disappointing, especially, after we made multiple notes about it-- but more concerning was a recent visit where the dish was so heavily salted it was completely inedible. A total salt bomb. That shouldn't happen at any restaurant, let alone one at this price point. I also question the quality and sourcing of the fish and meats. When you're paying premium prices, it's reasonable to expect transparency and higher standards -- ideally antibiotic- and hormone-free proteins. That expectation doesn't feel met here. Nothing I've had stands out as exceptional, and in a city with so many strong Middle Eastern options, Sadaf simply doesn't rise above the pack. There are far better choices nearby that offer more consistent flavors and better value--- The space is nice enough, but ambiance can't compensate for inconsistent execution and quality issues. Bottom line: A lot of fluff, not enough substance. With better consistency and higher ingredient standards, this could improve -- but for now, it's a two-star experience. read more

Last time I had dinner at Sadaf it was in BH. It was fantastic. Last week we were at Darya, it was good. But the Sadaf in Encino is the best. The service is unbelievable. While the service is chaotic at times, they make up for in the ambiance of the restaurant. I love the overall look of the restaurant. As for the food, the beef and chicken kabobs are average. Big portions but not amazing flavor. My only other complaint would be that it was extremely hot in the restaurant and they do not use the air conditioning for some reason. read more

Sadaf in Encino has decent food, but the overall experience was frustrating. We came here after trying Sadaf in Thousand Oaks (their food always feels like it's missing something). The Encino location was better food wise, but the service was horrible from start to finish. Nobody checked on us and we had to ask for everything, water, bread, tea, the check. They were not busy to be so ignored Also, with Persian friends from out of town, tea matters. When we asked for sugar cubes, they brought them individually wrapped in plastic, which was really off putting. And the tahdig genuinely tasted like leftovers. Between the poor service and the sloppy details, I don't see myself coming back. read more

I really like this place. They have a bar that has happy hour and then they have the more formal restaurant dining. If you're gonna order from the happy hour menu, you have to sit in the bar area. They won't tell you that. I ordered the Adas polo with the juju kebab chicken very juicy chicken. You're gonna love it. One entrée is good for two people. These are huge portions. I also ordered an espresso martini that I was not crazy about. I don't think they specialize in making cocktails here but I really did enjoy the food. read more

Food is excellent, especially the beef koobideh, basmati rice and eggplant. My office has only had the food delivered and even with the 20 min transport time, the food arrives at the perfect temperature. Everything we've tried is fresh. Even the leftovers taste just as good the next day. The portions are very generous. Also want to thank Yella or Yelda who helped me over the phone, she was so kind. Persian food is among the best cuisine out there. From the stews to the kebabs and everything in between it is a delight....if done properly. I am happy to report that Sadaf knows exactly how. We were in town for our sons orientation at UCLA and were really in the mood for Persian. Lets face it it's not called Tehrangeles for nothing. The staff was friendly and the service was on point. The Food: Much like ordering a margarita pizza we always start with kebabs. It is hard to hide bad technique or poor quality food in this basic yet complex food. Dolmeh: Meat stuffed grape leaves. The leaves added a slight bitter element and textural to offset the rich and slightly sweet filling. The mousier added a rich tangy element to the whole affair. Torshi: basically pickled vegetables. It is a usual go to for us as it will help with the inevitable richness of the incoming kebabs. Dough: Yogurt drink made in house with addition of salt and pepper. This was excellent and again helps cut the richness of Persian food. My only disappointment was that I prefer the carbonated variety over still which was unavailable in pitcher form Sultani with Half Rice / Half Salad Shirazi: Sultani is traditional one strip of Barg (Filet) and one of Koobideh (ground beef). The Barg was tender and juicy. It was surprising cooked to order which was a nice touch. It was perfectly seasoned and so tasty. The Koobideh was the same. Again juicy and perfectly seasoned with just the perfect amount of char. Persian rice is the best hands down. Perfectly steamed and not drowning in butter like so many places. The saffron infused rice topped the regular rice and was soooo good. It was nice to be able to split the rice with the salad Shirazi. The combination of chopped tomato, onion and cucumber was nice with the meat and also helped as a palate cleanser between rich bites. The torshi also paired well. The interior had a nice modern feel to it. We were early so parking was available on the street and there appears to be valet. We have hit or miss luck with Persian food as of late and Sadaf was definitely a 5 star hit! Great experience dining here in Encino! The mushroom appetizer and musto mosir with their freshly baked house bread were delicious. TLDR: Eggplant delight was a delight, but juicy chicken was quite dry. Service was okay, and try to carpool because parking in their lot is valet only. - - - - - - Sadaf has been on my list ever since a friend recommended it to me. Parking isn't too plentiful on the street, and if you park in their lot, note that it is valet parking, and the rate may be $7. As mixed news, I discovered on my Friday night visit that they offer free hummus with a Yelp check-in on Mon-Thurs. Thankfully, our server didn't mind and slid one for us - yay! The live guitar in the background was also very enjoyable. I went with a friend, and we ordered their combination appetizer which included dolmeh, maust khiar, hummus, and eggplant delight. They also provided complimentary thin bread for us to enjoy with our hummus and appetizer. What's distinct about the hummus here is that it is on the runnier side - not quick as thick as I was used to - but I enjoyed the more savory and not salty taste. Their dolmehs were a tad salty, but their eggplant delight was such a new taste it took me by surprise. I enjoyed how sweet and simple that it was, The maust khiar was okay, but it's not something I'd try with bread again - personal preference. For entrees, my friend ordered their Combination of 3 Stews, and I had fun ranking them with my friend - kind of like Goldilocks. Surprisingly, we each liked different ones. I ordered the Juicy Chicken, which to be honest was a mixed bag. The chicken itself was juicy and moist, but it was also very dry at the same time - almost like it was moist on the inside but dry on the outside. After a few more bites, I found it to be unbearable and took it to go - hopefully reheating with a bit of water will help. Towards the end of our meal, our server gently hinted at us that our time was up - looks like they enforce that 90 minute dining limit!
