I recently returned to Texas from an overseas trip and used that as an excuse to celebrate with my friends over KBBQ! I've wanted to try Saemaeul since they first opened, and I'm so glad I finally stopped by. We came here on a busy Saturday evening when every table was filled and there was a party of 12 ahead of us on the list. Depsite this, we were seated after only ~10 minutes of waiting! We ordered the beef special combo plus an order of samgyeopsal, and boy was it a lot of food. I was really worried we would end up leaving unsatisfied because I'm used to AYCE bbq spots, but I was super wrong. The meat here was so delicious, I much prefer high quality plain meat to dip in sauce or salt myself versus sugary marinated meat, so I was super happy with how fresh everything tasted. The special comes with your choice of soup, we got the kimchi jjigae and it was gone within minutes. They are very generous with the side dishes, and not to worry, they will refill them free of charge despite not being AYCE. We had maybe five plates of lettuce because samgyeopsal and kimchi wrapped in lettuce is just the best thing ever. I enjoyed every single cut of meat we ate despite my typical basic order of bulgogi not being present. The combos are a great way to expand your palette a tiny bit if you're like me and tend to order the same things every time. They had multiple types of soju you can order, which was also appreciated. I got something new (Saero) and ended up really liking it! The servers here grill your meat for you, which was a bit of an adjustment because I'm used to doing it myself, but I ended up really enjoying leaving it up to the server. I felt like I actually got to fully engage in conversation at the table (designated meat grillers of their friend groups get what i mean hehe). I had a really really good time here, and while Samaeul isn't within my regular budget, this is a great place for birthdays and celebrations, though I don't know if I would bring a huge group here since the tables are all for 3-4 people max. We tried this place for the first time today and I feel like it may be my new favorite! All of the food we had was incredible! We tried the 3 meats from the set menu which included finger meat, brisket, and galbi. I will say I enjoyed every bite! The banchan was plentiful and everything was very fresh. The woman who was helping us was amazing! Fast service with people who were very attentive! The inside was also very nice! Unfortunately we were unable to take pics because the food was so so good! Finally ate here, but reason was there were so many mixed reviews. My wife went here for a girls night and loved it so I tried next with a business partner. Food was fresh and high quality. Service was outstanding. We had two ladies that kept rotating at our table and others, but they cooked everything and changed the grill when needed. I will say that the food was a bit expensive, but every high quality Korean bbq are these days. I prefer quality vs all you can eat when I want better quality. Highly recommend. The beef was really good, and we enjoyed that a lot. I had high expectations for the kimchi jjigae but it turned out to be quite disappointing because firstly, it was consists of vegetables only and secondly, the taste was good, but it frankly didn't meet my expectations at all. The seafood pancake was also quite mediocre. Very authentic kbbq place with fresh ingredients and protein! Service was phenomenal and cooked to perfection. We really enjoyed the side dishes especially the salads and kimchi. They went very well with the meat. We had the small beef combo which was a bit pricey compared to ayce places. We only got 3 different beef cuts and a soup. We absolutely loved the tenderness of the kkotsal and how it melted in our mouths. The other two were just fine. None of them are seasoned with sauces so you have to dip them and eat them with the side dishes. We did not really enjoy the kimchi soup. It was too sour and we preferred another beef cut instead to replace it. We had a pleasant experience but I've had better combos with more flavors before. read more

My new local favorite for a la carte Korean bbq. The vibe feels very traditional with the round tables and stools. The service has been fast and attentive the both times I have been there. The menu is very well crafted and aesthetic with many photos. The side dishes are great and they give variety considering it's a bbq focused restaurant. They have small combo options and large combo options. My boyfriend and I have big appetites and the small combo feeds us just right. The meat quality is very good and they like to grill the meat for you. The marinade on their marinated meat options are amazing. Not too sweet, subtle, and light seasoning just like how they do it in Korea. It's not overly heavy, soy sauce-y and sweet like most Korean bbq places around here. What also stands out to me of this place in comparison to other local a la carte Korean bbq (Ari, gui gui, etc.) is their kimchi soup and soybean stew. Amazing. Kimchi stew is spicy and has so much flavor. Soybean stew is full of veggies and tofu and flavor. I'm a big soup/stew lover so this is a big plus for me. Most bbq places do not nearly put as much thought in to their side dishes and soups as this place. Also as an appetizer, they give you seaweed soup which is uncommon but great. This was the best Korean restaurant I've been to in Dallas. It was busy Friday night and had a lively atmosphere. Food: -I liked the naengmyeon and heard good things about it from other members of the party who have a better benchmark for cold noodles. It has a lot more flavor after adding mustard. -The little bit of the cheese gyeran jjim I had was the highlight of the meal. -We shared the special mix combo. The last meat (yangnyeom anchangsal) was by far my favorite. It was the only one that came off the grill moist and tender. The taste was very good, too. The other meats were quite dry. Maybe we left them on too long :\ -The sides and starters are all fresh and tasty. Atmosphere: Lively family restaurant with largely Korean patronage. It is a bit loud. We were left unattended all the way through the end of our meal ever since she put down the short ribs. After everything, we had to wait to get their attention to ask our bill for like 30 min. Mind you, we hit the bell THREE TIME. We were trying to make eye contact but no one looked at our table. We weren't even given a chance to complain if we wanted to. We were trying to be understanding but we also had our limit. This is us being served by her second time and both time were disappointing. It'd be better to go during dinner time because there would be other young servers or avoid Monday at all unless you like her service. Went for dinner arrived around 5:45pm called ahead to make certain that we did NOT require reservation and the lady that answered said no - since we were a party of 5 + 1 baby. The place was almost empty but as the night went on quickly became full. Even on this Thursday night. They quickly seated us brought out the sides which included a cabbage salad, potato salad, miso/ seaweed soup, pickled onions, wasabi, kimchi, salt and pepper and many more... all delicious but our fave were definitely the salad and pickled onions. We ordered the mix combo (beef/pork) we asked how many people that would feed and it was suggested 4. We had two adults and four kids and I would say it was definitely enough. It comes with a rice bowl too. There's water for every table and cups. The soda offered is a can. The servers were nice and all really take care of all the tables making rounds. The meat was good! They actually come and flip it for you, of course you're allowed to do it but with it being our first time we just let them do the cooking. My personal favorite was the kimchi stew! But as far as the meats my kids enjoyed the beef finger steak and marinated beef thin skirt. The environment is calm and has dim lighting no loud music which is nice. Clean plates, even changing the grills with every meat and answered all questions about menu. Would recommend! read more
