This is one of the many Korean barbecue restaurants in a 1 mile radius. I've come here before and tried the beef combo and this time decided to try the pork. The pork belly was extremely dry, but it may just have been that we were amongst one of the last customers on a Friday night. I would return here to give it another try and maybe try ordering something different.
Food Family and I came here after finding out this was Paik's restaurant(a judge from Culinary Class Wars). We've had our fair share of kbbq and this place really stood out on top for me. It's not an unlimited kbbq place, so we ordered the XL beef Special combo for our party of 6 and a green onion pancake. I believe that it was just the right portion for us wherein we were stuffed but not too full. The quality of the meat was top notch and we got pretty thick cuts and one of the servers cooked the meat for us. The green onion pancake was a fluffy pancake that just melted in my mouth accompanied by flavorful sauces. Overall, it's a bit more a premium place to go to but pretty worth it in my opinion. Service/Ambiance [[HIGHLIGHT]]On Saturday lunch, we were surprised that there were barely any people inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe of the place was a bit more of an upscale casual kbbq place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff were nice and cooked the meat for us in our special combo.
Hubby & I've been here many times even before pre-covid. Their meat quality has always been consistently good & flavorful. We ordered the chadol & kkotsal this time & it was tender. Their side dishes are delicious as well. Service is friendly & attentive. I like that they cook the meat for you & they change the grill when necessary. It's not AYCE but I prefer quality over quantity & they serve just the right amount meat. At the end, we ordered neng myun & kimchi jjgae. The neng myun was just okay but the kimchi jigae mixed in with rice was pretty good. We left home feeling full & satisfied. There are a lot of Korean bbq restaurants in BP area but I rate this one the best in my opinion.
Came to Saemaeul for dinner and absolutely loved the experience! I always prefer KBBQ that isn't AYCE and the small beef combo was perfect for 3 of us, we even had leftover to take home. I really appreciate that non of the meats were marinated compared to similar KBBQ restaurant combos. The service was amazing and our waiter cooked our beef to perfection, changing out the grill after every type. We came on the early side and didn't have to wait, but the restaurant started getting busy closer to 6! I regret not getting the cheesy steamed egg and will definitely be back again to try it. I could go lengthy into this restaurant, but a lot of what I'll mention will be easily experienced just by coming in yourself. Saemaeul is a Korean BBQ restaurant with some of the highest quality meats you can desire. Before even walking in you might notice the people who come here: they're almost all Korean. Just from the clientele you can tell this is going to be authentic AF. The staff are very kind. Obviously, if you speak Korean it'll be easier to order, but they do speak English and they are helpful. Because this is more traditional Korean BBQ and not an AYCE they will be cooking the meat for you, perfect for anyone who doesn't want to cook their own food. This means you benefit from their expertise and everything will be cooked perfectly for you to enjoy without the stress. The food is incredible in quality. For Korean cuisine it isn't just about the main dishes that make a meal. It also involves the quality of the side dishes and the ban chan here is incredibly fresh and vibrant in flavors. Saemaeul serves one of the best 된장찌개 I've had in America. A lot of places this fermented bean soup is either too watery or too salty, but here it is perfect and accentuates all the adjacent flavors. The meat is high quality with a butcher in the kitchen actually cutting the meats presented to you. Just writing this is making my mouth water. The price will be a bit higher. We got a beef combo that costs $138 but it was meant for 3 people so it made sense. Not to mention the quality is worth that much. Considering the high quality ingredients, the stress free eating experience, and an ambiance that would easily fit in any big city in South Korea Saemaeul is a perfect place to eat Korean BBQ where you'll leave not only full, but satisfied.
Of course we had to visit after watching Culinary Class Wars on Netflix! The restaurant is located off Beach Blvd in Buena Park, where a number of other well-established Korean restaurants are located. The place was quite empty on a Wednesday night for dinner but service was really good. All the servers were very attentive, seriously like a hawk watching your every move (and plate). Dishes came out quick and the servers assisted in cooking your meats. Overall, I thought the quality and items were relatively similar to other 'higher-end' Korean BBQ spots in the area. My group thought it was a little better, but not by much. I'd say my favorite items were the Yeoltan Bulgogi (which you can also get $0.01 soju if ordered) and the Rice Balls. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restroom is a bit run down. Things are kind of rusty and moldy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I don't know how effective the ventilation is since there were times when each table had plumes of smoke. The vents didnt seem to work too well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]
This was my first time trying to location with my friend. We went here for my brother's birthday. It was 7pm on a Monday evening. It wasn't busy and we were seating right away. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When we were first escorted to our table, we thought the table and grill was pretty small for a table of 6 people. It felt like everything was crammed onto the table.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered the large order of the beef special. We ended up ordering extra brisket, beef tongue, and boneless short rib. We were very full at the end! Some of the meat quality was very good, and others were just okay. Service was good! All of the servers continuously checked in on us, and they changed the grill regularly. I thought they cooked the food really fast though. I felt a little rushed at some points. I'm not sure the price matches the quality of the meat.
One of the favorite spot to dine KBBQ in Buena Park. Good quality meant, my nephews love cheeses steam eggs. The service is pretty great, they grilled us the meats. The wait line wasn't bad at that time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Each table wasn't crowded, They space out pretty good.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We love going back soon.
Their spread of banchan is plentiful in veggies and their meat is so tender and juicy! I love how they offer so many veggie side dishes because they all go very well with the meat. The meat is great quality and the servers were so attentive here. They refilled our banchan without us having to ask and we were really impressed by that. It's not often you find kbbq places that go out of their way like that. They also frequently switched out the grill so our meat was never burnt but cooked perfectly.
My friends and I visited SAEMAEUL Korean Traditional BBQ, and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the restaurant was clean and refreshing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered a BBQ platter for about $80, which included three plates of meat, soybean paste soup, and a variety of delicious side dishes. The meat was high quality and well-marinated, sizzling over the charcoal grill, releasing an irresistible aroma. With a crispy outside and juicy inside, every bite was bursting with flavor! Paired with authentic Korean side dishes and a special dipping sauce, it was an incredibly satisfying experience. One of the most unique dishes was the old-school lunchbox fried rice (see Image 3). The server first brought out the lunchbox for customers to take photos before shaking and mixing the ingredients inside (see Image 4). The final result was a hand-mixed kimchi fried rice full of rich flavors. The cheese steamed egg was another highlight! It contained onions and other vegetables, making it both nutritious and delicious.
Stopped by here in a Saturday around 4:45pm. We just came before the dinner rush, as the line quickly became long with families after us. Originally came for X Fish but we didn't pre add ourselves to the yelp waitlist which was almost 2 hours. For two people we got the beef set for 2. The servicer saved us a lot of wasted money when we almost ordered the set for 4+ people (make sure you pick the right size for your party). The meats were delicious, and well portioned. They were cooking the meat quite fast so I did feel a little pressured to eat quickly. I like my meat (pretty crispy) so because of the pace we were being served I couldn't get that. The banchan was yummy as well. They continuously filled our rice paper refills because we went through over 4 lol. I do wish they had potato salad, fish cake and corn included though. Interior was spacious bright and clean. Was giving modern traditional Korean. Food: 4/5 Service: 4.5/5 Ambience: 4.5/5
Another Korean bbq. I'm giving it 4 stars because of the consistently great service. Staff cooked the meat and changed the grill multiple times. I was a part of a large group of 13. No reservations, but we were seated fairly quickly. The restaurant is not set up for large groups, so we were split up into 3 small round tables. It's a lot of food. The side dishes are a little bit on the boring side, so I mostly stuck to the salad. The meat was okay.
Still the best Korean BBQ place in Orange County that I know. I never understood why people line up at Baekjeong. Their meat is absolutely disgusting. Anyhow the meat quality here is truly the best for the price around $50s per person. Also the staff here really knows how to cook your meat perfectly to keep the juicy part inside but render crispy part outside. I read some people complaining about the bland taste of meat. Ridiculous... Then how should the fresh meat taste as? Sweet? Salty?Peppery? They are probably talking about KBBQ marinated in lots of sugar and soy sauce. Trust me their meat quality here is excellent. Besides they provide the sauce and salt on the side. Just Make sure to order the beef combo. I think That's the best choice for the buck. Also I recommend steamed egg. That was also really good. One of the best ones I ever had. So creamy and buttery!

My Friday night double date dinner with great company and ACE quality meat to choose from. I had this place bookmarked on yelp for the longest time now and always drove by and said to myself, I will eat here. I can finally say that I did and I definitely be coming back. This last two years I am starting to enjoy Korean BBQ spots that doesn't offer ayce. You can tell the difference in taste. You are definitely paying for what you eat and it's worth it. One per person * Chadolbagi | beef brisket * Deungsim | sirloin * Kkotsal | boneless short ribs * Yangnyeom Kkotsal | marinated short ribs Everything didn't disappoint but the marinated short ribs by far my favorite. It was marinated perfectly. No dipping sauce needed. * Choice of Kimchi Jjigae or Doenjang Jjigae | I chosed the Kimchi Jjigae. Came here on a Saturday night and boy was it busy! It was about a 40 minute wait. Once we got in, we were greeted with an enthusiastic staff! The food was great too. I'd skip the brisket but the pork and beef combo were decent. I'd personally order ala carte next time and get the marinated short rib and pork belly on its own. Overall, a great spot to try once and see if you like it! Also, get their mango makoli ! So good. read more

My favorite non-ayce KBBQ spot in OC! I don't know why people rave about baekjong, this place is so much better. It is reasonably priced and meat quality is good. Service is always pretty good too. I love the sides that they have as well. I always take my family and friends here. Highly recommend! read more

i came here for lunch with my mom and i loved it so much i like this place waaaay better than baekjeong we got the small beef combo that comes with 1 type of soup either kimchi or soybean and we got the kimchi and ofc we had to get a bottle of jinros back to share our server cooked our food for us extremely well and was very attentive the brisket was so good! it had a good amount of fat so it wasn't tough or anything i really liked the boneless short rib cus it was so tender and rich with perfect amounts of marbling. i think it was my favorite and my moms favorite i forgot what the other meat was but it was so delicious i'll definitely be back again! read more

No need to go to Ktown to eat Korean BBQ when you have Saemaeul Restaurant in the OC! My friend and I came on a rainy day and it was crazy how busy this place is. They already have half the room with customers occupying almost all the tables available. We were able to get seated thankfully upon arrival and the staff was super nice. We ended up getting a beef combo which comes with brisket, beef finger rib & boneless short ribs. The best part was that the staff would help cook the meat to ensure your meat is cooked to perfection. This was the best part of the experience since I am known to overcook my meats so having someone do it makes my eating experience better. I saw that all the tables have this consistent type of service. It reminds me so much of my experience in South Korea; there was this ajumma who fabulously cooked our meat that not once did we had to change our grill because of burn residue. She was a true pro. The brisket and boneless short ribs were my absolute favorite. It was so tender and juicy. Besides just the meat selections, don't hold back on the sides! The kimchi stew was so delicious, spicy and flavorful. It was great with a side of rice. It was included in the combo we got, but you can always order it individually as well. The Korean Lunch Box was my absolute favorite! The staff will shake the box to ensure that all the ingredients are mixed together. It's basically a shaken bibimbap which will never disappoint me. And the most mentionable item on their Yelp reviews is their Steamed Egg! It's overflowing and topped with cheese. When you take a bite, it has mixtures of egg and onions with cheesy goodness. Let me share with you my dining experience at Saemaeul in Buena Park. We ordered the beef combo which comes with 3 types of cut: the brisket, beef finger ribs & boneless short ribs. Don't forget to order their steamed eggs. Everything was so delicious and they have such a welcoming staff. Very spacious interior with outdoor dining area too. Plenty of parking spot. This was my first time here after seeing all the ads on instagram! It is a bit pricy but the quality of the meat did not disappoint. We got the beef combo which comes with 3 different meats and kimchi jiggae! We also ordered the infamous corn cheese steamed egg. This was my favorite! I love that the servers cook for you and are supper attentive. It gets quite busy on the weekends so come early! read more

I wanted to try this place when I found out that this is a restaurant is owned/managed by Jong Won Paik. I follow his TV shows (Corner Restaurant and MahtNahm eui GwangJang - both of which air on Korean TV) and like his cooking style and business concepts, especially the fact that everything is about taste, cleanliness, and affordability. His TV shows are also designed to help the suffering economy of regions that are on the phasing out stage and well as the helping the agricultural and meats industries in Korea that are trying to enduring hardships. I was not disappointed!!! =) We ordered the Beef Combo set. I give it 5 stars for the quality of meat in this combo. The small combo includes the chadolbagi (brisket), sogalbisal (finger ribs), and kkotsal (boneless short ribs). The meats were good quality and they kept changing the grill for us each time we started grilling a different type of meat. We also ordered the Yeoltan Bulgogi with soy sauce flavor and the meat was pretty good, but the sauce was way too sweet for may taste. I don't think I will be ordering this in the future. We chose the Kimchi Jjigae which comes with the Combo and it was good.... but nothing extraordinary. We finished with the Myulchi Noodles which is basically a Janchi (Celebration) Noodles. The broth was very good and the noodles were cooked just right. It was a perfect finish to the meal. =) I will definitely coming back for more!! read more

My first time here trying their beef special combo was a really good experience! The meat quality is very good, and the waiters will help you cook everything. I also really like their cheese steamed eggs, which isn't commonly found in other KBBQ restaurant. It's like a combination of corn cheese and steamed eggs in one dish (so good)!! read more
Local friends recommended this place to meet up. We usually go to MoRanGak. The vibe is very nice & comfortable. We ordered the large beef/pork combo. It was enough for 4 people (not super heavy eaters). Steamed egg is extra but it is covered in too much cheese, no thank you next time. Meat quality was good & tasty. Pork belly & seasoned bulgogi at the end was good. Star of the show was the denjang stew, so good over rice! Craving it now. Salad was fresh, love the spicy cabbage & onion slaw. No complimentary pancake (cry), kimchi was good (grill it with the pork belly). Not much other banchan. Overall we really enjoyed our dinner. It will be a regular stop for sure. Finish with a bingsoo a few doors down at Sul & Beans. Go before 5:45 to avoid lines. read more

If you're craving kbbq then head to @saemaeul.us in Buena Park! They have high quality meats that are so juicy and tender as well as amazing sides just bursting with flavor I also really like their salad here. Sit back and relax because the waiters cook your meat to perfection for you here! William was our server and he was excellent! Super friendly, helpful, and attentive! Ambiance here is casual! The Order: Small Beef Special Combo (feeds 2) - Prime Boneless Short-rib - Beef Rib Fingers - Beef Brisket - Kimchi Stew or Soybean Paste Stew (both are so good) Pork Jowl -if you like pork, this is next level! Always a fav of mine -I love when the texture on the outside is crispy and then the inside has a slight chew Old Fashioned Korean Lunch Box -Sausage, fried egg, stir fried kimchi, and rice all shaken up by your waiter! -This was really fun as well as tasty! I want to say this is my first time trying Korean BBQ and it was a nice experience . We ordered the beef special which was delicious . The spread of pickled cucumber radish and more was delightful . So I understand due to COVID, there's so many changes which is a real bummer when it comes to grilling. We ordered the small meat combo and our entire meal was cooked for us in the back grill. The gas stove we had on our table was not used for grilling but used as a placement holder for the cooked meats with no fire underneath. Within 20 minutes into the meal, our entire combo was COLD. I dislike eating cold food nor do I enjoy this process. I want to cook my meats at my own liking and my food hot. Who enjoys a cold meal? We also ordered a side of their steamed egg with cheese and even the cheese from the ceramic pot was not fully melted and hardened with bits of clump. Quality wasn't bad in terms of meat flavor but the experience wasn't pleasant at all for our entire party. read more
I came with my family to have dinner here a few days ago for my birthday. We were coming here to celebrate my birthday and have a good Korean meal after a long day at Disneyland. When we arrived they did not seem too busy however we were still asked to wait outside as they prop the table for approximately 5 to 10 minutes. They sat me in my party of five add a tiny circular table. It was pretty small for all of us plus the food. We ordered one of the side menus that included both pork and beef dishes. They also brought out the appetizer small dishes and the Korean salad which are refillable. Additionally we got a order of japchae which are korean glass noodles and were pretty tasty. Since we were celebrating my 21st birthday we wanted to order a bottle of Soju, unfortunately the staff member said that they were not able to serve it for me on my 21st birthday, but that it had to be the day after. This totally dampen the mood and did frustrate me a bit. I was unaware of this rule prior to choosing this restaurant of the many Korean restaurants in this area, otherwise I might not have gone to this one. Although another family member could've ordered the soju I decided not to after since the mood was kinda ruined after. AnyWho, this place has their staff cook for you so that's a plus except the tables are really small so it was pretty tight to have the staff come in and cook our food while we all kind of squished together. The food itself was pretty tasty however it was a bit pricey. Depending on the occasion we might or might not return since there are many other Korean food options in this area as well. This restaurant reminds me of Baekjeong as it is the same concept, but tables are smaller. read more

If you're looking for a kbbq place with quality meat then this place is definitely the spot. I have never had such high quality meat before. I got the XL beef combo and wow every meat was so tender and delicious. I also ordered their melted cheese steamed egg and wow it was so good. The egg was so fluffy. Overall this place was amazing. I also forgot to mention but the service here was amazing. They kept coming back to help cook the meat, so I was able to enjoy the food and not have to worry about cooking it. Great place for K BBQ. The staff is super attentive and knows how to make your experience wonderful. The meat cuts are very tasty. Give your taste buds a special treat. The beef tongue got a bit tough while on the grill, but oh my the pork belly and beef are exceptional. Staff is super quick so for the novice it may seem overwhelming, but please don't let that deter your culinary adventure they are super nice and ask questions and for suggestions. I love the place and the food is impeccable and the service is usually amazing as well as long as you come here... for dinner! Lunchtime service is essentially non-existent because they're severely understaffed. Poor servers had to manage all the tables with only two people the entire time, and it was hard to flag anyone down or get any order in. Loved the service my boyfriend and I received here. Our server was very attentive; he continuously asked if we needed refills on our banchan and cooked all of the meats well. No carelessness whatsoever. I hate feeling rushed while eating, and never did here. Our server actually asked us when it was okay to start cooking the next cut of meat which I thought was very thoughtful. We chose the small beef special combination: brisket, boneless short rib, and rib finger. All of the cuts of meat were tender and comparable to the quality at other non-AYCE KBBQ restaurants (e.g Baekjeong). We both thought it was great value (quality and price), since we almost couldn't even finish our meats by the end of our meal. We also ordered the steamed egg with cheese which was the thing that initially drew my attention to this restaurant. We both thought it was a unique way of having steamed egg and it was delicious while hot. However, it became too indulgent once it cooled and the cheese hardened. Think about the cheese on a cold slice of pizza, that's what it was like lol. All of the banchan were solid. The kimchi tasted how it should, and the rice paper was so fresh! While visiting friends in CA, went there for dinner on Monday. Glad we went early around 5:30, the place gets packed. While I like that server grills your meat for you, service is brief, rough and unfriendly! This is main reason for 4 vs 5 star review. Got the XL pork special combo and it was more than enough for 4 adults and 1 child. We didnt care for the soup but every meat was delicious!!! Cheese gyeran jjim (not pictured) - good but super dry Despite rude service, we plan to come back and enjoy high quality food. read more
