***This review is about the Starbucks in the Safeway, not the Safeway in general.*** I moved into the neighborhood of this Safeway a week prior to this visit. I walked in at 7:56pm, and this Starbucks closed at 8:00pm. (I feel bad when I do that, so I always make sure to put something in the tip jar.) The girl behind the counter says, "Sorry, we're closed." I say, "Oh, actually it's 7:56, so you're open for a few more minutes. Sorry to cut it so close." "Well, I have to clock out early because I clocked in early. And, I have to leave early tonight anyway," she said, with a nasty tone. I don't think she liked it that I called her out, and I certainly didn't see how this was my problem, as the customer. I proceeded to try to politely tell her that this Starbucks is open until 8:00pm, and she got ugly with me and refused to make me a drink. I left the counter really angry by how I was treated. I did some grocery shopping and decided I was going to report her to a store manager, but I didn't know her name. I snapped a picture of her, since I was in the checkout lane closest to the coffee kiosk, and she saw me. She became irate and stormed out of the kiosk and started yelling at me that I couldn't take her picture and that it was illegal. I calmly explained that I took her picture so I could report her to her boss since she wasn't wearing a name tag, and that taking a picture of someone certainly isn't illegal. I expressed surprise that she was still there because she told me she "had to go" and "had to clock out early." She made a huge scene. I was embarrassed and it was evident that my cashier was really uncomfortable. On my way out of the store, she was loudly venting about me to her coworker. I asked the coworker if she was her boss, and she said no, but she defended her coworker and said that the barista couldn't help me because she clocked in early. Again, how is this MY problem? She was behind the counter and it wasn't closing time yet. What on earth has happened to customer service? I wasn't asking her to make a drink AFTER 8pm! I was appalled that not only was I treated badly by the barista, but that this other Safeway employee was actually defending her behavior. I reported her to the manager a week later. He said he would talk to her. Unfortunately, he said it was his first day, so I doubt he disciplined her at all. This was 3 weeks ago. She still works there, and I don't trust her to make my drink. I can't believe Safeway allows people like her to stay employed and treat their customers with such disrespect and lack of value. Truly a disappointing and frustrating experience. read more

Hands down - The absolute worst customer service/shopping experience I have had to date. I spend over $700 here weekly for grocery delivery, yet that does not seem to matter to them one bit. It is the most frustrating thing in the world when you can't even get anyone to return your call after countless calls and managers saying 'you have my word' i will call you back and let you know when your order will be delivered. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had in any retail environment. I would have bet anyone that I would never write a review on a grocery store, but obviously I would have lost. But I had to write a review since it was so horrible. The cashier was rude and sneered the whole time. It would be wrong of me to say that the cashier looked like she had so much plastic surgery done on her face that if the weather got any warmer her face would have melted. So I won't. She did not say one word to me from the moment I got in line thru her ringing up the items and even when she was done did not say a word or tell me my balance. She only spoke when I told her that the register must have not read my club card since it had not given me the discounts on the items that were on sale. "Here"was her reply to that as she handed me the receipt.(I had slid my card as soon as I finished entering my club card). I repeated to her that I was overcharged for the items. She just huffed and told me that it was already charged. I had to request that she re-ring the items so that she can get me the refund, she just looked at me and threw $6.00 at me, and told me that was how much she had overcharged me without looking at my items. I know that it was not sufficient enough, but to be honest I would have paid another $30.00 to just get out of there without any more interactions with any of them. The bag boy seemed to be upset as well as the checker in the next aisle when we had walked in 15 minutes before closing. We were there for about 10 minutes since we knew what we were there for and my wife and two boys all split up and got the items we were looking for, because they said to each other only 15 more minutes a minimum of five times as we walked in. Unless you are in dire need, I would recommend you drive as much as 20 miles before shopping here. read more

It's a mediocre supermarket. I go here to pick up items that Trader Joe's don't have. But today I had a standout experience. My checkout person decided to err... profile all the customers in the line. I had to listen to this several times to be sure of it. And she didn't err... discriminate. We were all treated to this experience. She came this close to outright racism. Since there were no Caucasians in the line I missed out here. Perhaps she resorts to simple rudeness for people with own skin color? So. How close does she have to shave it before the management does something? Wish I could give zero stars. read more

Their rolls are fresh, but if you order a sandwich on sliced bread it's, usually stale. Sometimes they put enough meet, sometimes they don't. Even the customer service representatives here are rude, and they are not helpful. I was at this Safeway branch this afternoon (8/14/15) around 5 pm, because I wanted to buy Annatto powder. I couldn't find it, so I decided to go to the customer service. There were two representatives. The other representative was already handling a customer that went before me, so I asked the available representative if they have Annatto powder. I asked her, but she did not know what it was. The other representative who was already helping a customer suddenly jumped in and said we don't have it. She also said that if it's not on the shelf then they don't have it. In my head, why can't they call someone to help me look for it? They will lose customers if they keep on acting like this. Avoid this store if you can! read more

I think my favorite safeway is the one in Menlo Park, but we live across the street from this one. It has it's share of vagrants hanging outside which is always a put off, but the service in the store is pretty good. Kind of a smaller safeway, I guess with no U-scans. read more

This place is open 24 hours so it's awesome :3 plus it's close to where my friend lives so I might come here when I visit up north again :p I just came in with the girlfriend to get some vegetables and chips because we wanted to feel somewhat healthy and have something to snack on for the 5 hour trip back down to SoCal xD they had the kettle cooked chips that were maple bacon flavored :O and they were delicious. If you put a bag of that next to me I might just eat it all :D the prices here are fair, although I kinda wished they had smaller doses of creamer. We went to buy creamer for some Mexican coffee but they only had the 1.8 L one? I don't remember how many liters or milliliters it was but we didn't need too much. They also have self checkout here and the staff here is very friendly and nice ^_^ I always usually have a good experience at grocery stores. Every time I come in here I regret it. there are no self checkout machines, yet they also never ever have enough staff working so the lines are always out the door. So its been 30 mins for me standing in line at the Safeway Pharmacy and probably much longer for those in front of me. I thought having my mother inlaws meds sent to this Safeway that it would be better since its closer to my house but I was wrong Let's get right to it. For a pharmacy I mean how in the heck can you run a shift with just TWO people and there is a line with at least 8-10people and counting and its creeping closer and closer to 9p when this pharmacy closes. There's no additional help to bring in to speed up the process and to be honest its flipping frustrating. If you want a decent pharmacy trust me SAFEWAY isn't the one...well at least the one on Shoreline. There should be a better system put into place when the pharmacy staff is short. This is certainly ridiculous! I definitely will be switching pharmacy's because the wait time is just way too long no matter what time of the day you plan yow come and pick up your meds. read more

The exterior of the building is unkept and filthy, during my visit the Cashiers were having inappropriate conversations about a customer that just left the store and the Starbucks employee was very unfriendly and very unfriendly. I have been a regular customer here for years, and this Safeway has all I need in terms of grocery service. The problem I have here is entirely with the pharmacy. I have had huge medical issues for years, and as a result have come here for my medication too many times to count. And I have yet to pick up my meds without incident. Every time I have come here, there has been some slight, insignificant issue (that none of the staff has ever been willing to personally help resolve), that has prevented me from getting my medicine on time. A few times they have even run out of the extremely common pain medications I have been on and i have had to go to other pharmacies. When a customer is in severe pain from a major surgery and cannot get their pain medication for an extra 2 days because of unhelpful service, there is obviously something very wrong with the system. For a long time I tried to be patient and realize that they have many customers but then I realized that I have NEVER had a SINGLE time coming here that was even remotely worth it. My advice? Find another pharmacy. Because there is no way in hell I'm putting myself through that even one more time. read more

I shop here from time to time for groceries. I've always loved how they have fresh produce selection. The staff are friendly and helpful, seriously a neighboorhood grocery market. My experience shopping here have always been a good one BUT I AM VERY UPSET AT THE BAKERY SECTION. I was here 1 1/2 weeks ago ordering a baby shower cake. I asked the gal who helped me to show me sample designs they do for baby showers (they only have two designs to choose from); she delivered with professionalism and seem to understand what specific details I wanted. I even asked her if I can color change the blanket the stock had in its mouth and she said no. No problem but OMG, my co worker picked up the cake for me the day of the party, I was in shocked when I saw the cake - it was COMPLETELY DESIGNED NOTHING LIKE THE SAMPLE PICTURE I HAD PICKED OUT! This cake had a damn hibiscus flower - thank god the writing and spelling were correct and the people in the office complimented how delicious the cake was but I am bothered how they completely could mess up the design of cake I chosen. So I called the bakery requesting to speak to the Bakery Manager and for the next couple days he wasn't available. I called the day he is supposed to be in for work and he is unavailable to talk. I just gave up at that point. Definitely a bakery of disappointment. I won't be ordering any more future cakes and doing business with the bakery section of this Safeway but I'll still shop here for food. read more

Avoid this Safeway at all possible. The check out lines are horrible - some days there are lines with well over 20 people and never enough checkers. There is no self check out like most other stores which makes the lines unbearable. And Safeway obviously doesn't care because the service continues to get worse. read more

Worst Safeway ever. Do not waste your time. You will be spending more time in line than it takes to grocery shop. STAY AWAY !!! Not only does it take forever because the store is understaffed, carts are few and far between or all being used. When I finally found a cart and put a few groceries in it, the wheels locked up and could not be pushed. I had to take the over priced groceries out of the basket and lug around the hand basket. Big surprise, nobody at customer service booth. That line got long and still no employee to assist after two overhead pages and customers banging on the door. I order lunch for my company on Fridays and I recently started using the Safeway deli for their yummy salads. I had the pleasure of working with Grace twice now and she has been wonderful, she gave me a tip that I can call in my order in the morning and have it ready by the time I arrive. She even took photos of the displayed salads so I can choose which ones I want to order since I was doing it over the phone. Great customer service, "friendly" and helpful especially in floral at Shoreline. You're a little overpriced compared to Nob Hill flowers but at least you have orchid corsages on Mother's Day weekend!! (the Miramonte store grumpily "told" me they didn't have any at all - didn't seem believable to me since afterwards I called the Shoreline, San Antonio and Sunnyvale stores and they all seemed to have them).
