Fix your aisle signage. I've been to this store three times over four years, and every single visit has involved something unnecessarily frustrating during what should have been a simple purchase. First visit: Self-checkout errored out. I waited for assistance, but the attendant was distracted--listening to earbuds and looking at their phone. I eventually gave up and left. Second visit: I don't even remember the exact issue, only that I left without buying anything and vowed not to return. Third visit: I stopped in for a loaf of bread. A simple task, right? Apparently not. Multiple aisles are labeled "Bread." One had nothing related to bread at all (see video). Another had frozen bread. The actual bread was located at the opposite end of the store with no signage whatsoever. This store desperately needs better layout planning and accurate aisle information. I truly hope new management steps in and fixes these ongoing issues. read more

I love this Safeway - it is super quiet and there are hardly people in the store so it makes for a nice shopping experience. I wrote this review because I absolutely adore Evelyn S. Due to the inflation of EVERYTHING - I am now shopping at several stores and am cherry picking the best deals for my family. Safeway has some great deals; however, on every trip I have made I've encountered one problem or another. This time I was not able to find the Gatorade water that I had a coupon for that I was wanting for a hike. I found Spencer and he was able to assist me and helped me obtain the item I was in search of. Even though I have had difficulties with items being in stock, especially if the product is on sale, Safeway does go to great lengths to provide incredible customer service. I used to be an avid Safeway shopper. Loved that they were so close in the neighborhood. However, I am not happy with their prices. They are price gouging on a lot of items throughout their store. Notice these two items are exactly the same. Safeway wants $9.99 and Walmart is only $3.98. WHY OVER A $6.00 difference ? There are other items as well. Keto Bread, Hamburger Buns, almost $2.00 more. If I do not receive a response, I will be reporting this to the BBB, and Attorney General, and post this ALL OVER SOCIAL MEDIA. This price gouging has gotten just out of hand. I stopped at this Safeway store back in the summer on my vacation here. Nice spot in a big shopping center with lots of parking and nearby stores. I walked inside and went right to the Deli. I had to wait a little bit for the employees to finish making another batch of chicken . Store is nice and clean. The produce and shelves are all stocked properly. Good employees here. (6/19/20) I have been here a number of times since it's right down the street from the Ahwatukee EoS. Safeway is always a convenient stop for a grocery haul or some quick eats. Compared to the other Maricopa County Safeways I've been to, this one has taken some getting used to; it's a little more cramped, and I'm not onboard with how the store is organized (i.e. eggs and bacon are in the back -- around the corner -- not intuitively along the wall like in other such stores). However, never mind the aforementioned remarks. My real annoyance was with one of the staff members at the self-checkout line. Although seemingly friendly with the other shoppers in my midst, when it was my turn to scan my items, she just pointed at one of the machines. There was no, "This one's available!" or even a hello. Just an ominous, prickly point. Who the hell do you think you are, the Angel of Death? Nonsense. It was that gesture which sullied my impression of the staff (though the others really do a fantastic job keeping the store running smoothly and safely, and I do of course thank them). To my warden, however -- save the pointing for when you see a pretty meteor. I can locate and operate my own checkout machine. We'll see how things go tomorrow when I drop by for more post-gym goodies. Godspeed. read more

3.5* rounded up, because the staff here is always super nice to us, often when long lines full of the Tuk's most impatient people are having complete meltdowns. The lines can get long, particularly later in the evening, but we never cease to be amazed at the full on fits adults will pitch over waiting in line. Anyway, their prices can be high, and they don't carry Boar's Head cold cuts - important for Scott because they offer low and no sodium options, and for me because I'm picky AF - but I do like their produce and it is close. They do have good sales and reward programs can save you $$ on gas. I've seen some people bemoaning the lack of self check out option here: Scott uses them often, but they never work for me. Ever. I'm just a girl standing in front of the self check outs elsewhere begging them to work and trying not to weep ;) Scott was deeply entrenched in their Monopoly game for a while, and the workers were nice about subbbing out items they never seemed to have. Also, other customers have approached him and offered their game pieces as he zips around on his scooter shopping. So sweet! Finally, their flowers are very nice. No, really! Scott buys bouquets for me frequently, and they last a long time. The roses come with a five day guarantee and have lasted almost two weeks at times. When my Mom comes, we buy dozens of flowers, and she can never believe they are "supermarket flowers!" The ladies who work in floral make custom arrangements, and there are usually some attractive grab-and-go options in the cooler if DIY isn't your jam. I like shopping here. This store is always clean, organized and well stocked with what I shop for. The bakery is much better than its competitor down the road. I always get compliments when I bring a little somethin naughty but tasty to work...... The customer service is always above and beyond. Just yesterday I bought two Az iced teas thinking they were both on sale. One rang up not on sale, which it wasn't (my mistake), but she gave me the difference anyway. Sweet! I was running late for a get together (pot luck) knew I could not create anything as I had multiple events that day (unusually busy). I was thinking bakery something, which led me to the Safeway Bakery. Then it started, damn there is so much good looking and good smelling stuff, it is hard to make a decision. If only I could taste a bit of each one....well if that was possible I would probably not leave for a few hours. I chose two kinds of their Signature Select cookies, an Oatmeal Cranberry Walnut and a Chocolate something. I got to the gathering and placed the two boxes in the dessert area, not wanting to admit that I was bring "store bought" goods. As the event progressed, I heard people commenting on how good these cookies were....did someone make them ? Guess they were taken out of the box for serving. Well, I could not take credit for baking them, but I did know where they were from and I had to admit that they were from Safeway's bakery Dept. The manager of this Starbucks (I believe it is Dominic) is extremely nice, asks questions in a genuine fashion to actually engage you in conversation and is equally friendly with every patron. They always make the drinks correctly the first time, I get a bonus freebie shot every now-and-again and always leave with a smile on my face. I will choose this location over the one on Priest/Elliot any day!! As for the Safeway, they have extremely friendly, helpful staff. Great produce. Huge product offering. Clean store. Quick checkout. I'm not sure if Safeway is a national thing (let's just say I've never seen one of these babies in Manhattan), but it's definitely needed in Phoenix and Tucson. I would drive around the city, looking at all the strip malls and low-end manicure chop shops and wonder, "Where the hell do people go grocery shopping?" And while Trader Joe's is GREAT, I'd be hard-pressed to do all of my shopping there. So thank God for Safeway, right? Although Safeway is generally a little more expensive than other grocery stores, you can pretty much get anything you need there. This particular location was so clean it was beaming! I went to Safe Thursday morning to buy soup (less than $2). I always check my receipts before leaving a store but I was i a rush on a break at work. Later that night while getting dinner my Card declined finding out I was charged $92 and some change for a bowl of soup at safeway. LOL I was like, "Who buys $92 worth of soup!?" Called safeway store Thursday night spoke with closing manager Homyy who said I would need to go in the next morning to speak with Store Manager Russ or Judi because i didn't have my receipt. Totally understand. Friday morning at 8am spoke with Julie and Russ who immediately found the receipt and made a POS adjustment to refund my bank the full amount of $92. The process would take a few days to post back into my account.. they did not know how long this would take. I have an electric bill which is on hold because of this dilemma and only have $3 in my account until next payday! (Black Friday) Thankfully I have friends and family who are able to help out with my funds until I get my money back but hope I was the only one who had this over charge Thursday and it never happends again.. which I'm sure it will. Kudos to the management team for getting this straightened out but totally an inconvenience to me. I have to tell you all that if you are planning a baby shower for anyone you should for sure check out the cup-cake cakes at Safeway. First of all, they are very affordable and second of all, they are too cute! You know since you are at Safeway, you are going to get good service, but I have to say the bakery people are the best. The cakes come in very shower friendly pink boxes and are ready in 24 hours. I believe you can get cup-cakes cakes for any occasion but I highly recommend the shower ones!! Well guess what?! That side of the store is still designated "Exit Only". WHY?!!!! Do you guys not understand how difficult it is for some people to walk? You are in a high senior citizen area so maybe you should move your water to a different location and allow 2 ways to enter and exit. I'm sure I'm not the only one cringing with every step. Safeway may be on the expensive side of grocery stores but I've been shopping here for years. This particular Safeway's produce department is not the best! So if you're looking for good produce head off to Sprouts. Other than that the deli department is good and I really like the floral department as well. Some of the cashiers really crack me up and normally it's pretty good experience with those guys. I am an anti-bag person and I think it confuses the cashiers and baggers. If I forget my bags in the car I typically just want to put everything back into the cart so that I can use my bags that are inconveniently in the car. So that typically generate some pretty funny looks but they have good humor about it! If you ever need to return something customer service is very friendly and helpful which is nice. We had been shopping at This location for over 2 years. We have seen this Safeway as good as some in Mesa/Tempe we use to live by and were surprised at the poor customer service, or even fair to say customer satisfaction. We were spending on average $370 every two weeks there. We now shop at the Fry's up the road. Very friendly, better products, quick in and out, newly remodeled, and to top it off our bill was only $279!!!! Nathan the manager of Safeway was polite, and kind when we had an issue with his customer service representative and a specific sale item. For the last 3 months we have had issues with sale items being the wrong price, in the wrong spot, labeled wrong, cashiers who ring to fast and not correctly, an extra trip to customer service, and to top that off crushed eggs, bread, and broken waters from slamming them in the cart. I would avoid this location. If our money wasn't worth the customer service, neither will yours. Shop local, every .43 cents to the dollar stays in AZ, Safeway, .15 stays local. Great Safeway! This store is always clean, the staff is very customer service oriented, and well trained. If I ever have a question about a product the employee will actually walk with me to get the product, and then ask if I need anything else, with a smile and great attitude. I always get greeted with smiles from the cashiers and always ask if I need help to my car. Pregnancy craving! Did you know water has a taste?? It does when you're pregnant, and suddenly find the taste of water repulsive at night! Hahaha... Safeway brand tonic water is the ONLY place I can find tonic water in a 6-pack soda cans (yellow). Not a mini hyper expensive glass bottle or a larger plastic container that would take me too long to finish. In main Europe, I always enjoyed water with gas.. in Spain, in particular tonic water.. this replaced ginger ale on airplanes and on ice at home (my non alcoholic beverage of choice.. smirk). read more

(For the Floral dept) Let me preface this review by saying that the quality of the flowers I got from here for my wedding was not only amazing, but so ridiculously affordable. We paid a little over $300 for somthing that wouldve been easily over $700 at a conventional florist. The 5 stars is for that and the regional mgr Tara specifically. We had some trouble w/ Leslie the floral mgr. She acted very unprofessional in several different ways. Stress is the last thing a bride needs, especially the week of her wedding. She was the majority of my stress. No stars for her. Tara on the other hand, was contacted about the problems we were having and was the most gracious, helpful person ever. She personally constructed all my bouquets and centerpieces and delivered them to my venue for me. They were more beautiful than i couldve imagined and she was an absolute doll. Safeway is a grocery store not a pharmacy. I switched my prescriptions to a safeway store for convenience. However, the pharmacy did not have many drugs available, so I attempted to use the Safeway Pharmacy on-line website to reorder my prescription. Forget it! Horrible web design and software inadequate compared to competitors pharmacy service websites. NOTE: The prices at Safeway for non-insurance drugs is much cheaper than Walgreens and CVS. So, it is worth it to check out Safeway for generic inexpensive drugs. However, if you have insurance - use a real pharmacy. read more

The store is clean, staff friendly and always have the items in stock. Most items are generally a little more than Frys. Safeway does have some nice sales and coupon that comes in the weekly flier. Why such an average score then? Living just down the street, I'm here often for milk, bread etc and always deal with a slow express lane and only 1 or 2 check stands open with long lines. I went to the store last night to grab some fresh bread for dinner. I was back in 25 minutes and I live a little over 1 mile each way. read more
