My family and I are frequent shoppers here. We are always greeted with kindness, friendliness and help. They have the best sandwiches (better than subway I believe). Today was just like any other day we came to shop but low and behold back at our car...we had a dead battery. No one around us would help us let alone show us a sign of relief. Then out came a wonderful young lady (Safeway employee) who saw us in distress. Her name is Jessica G. from customer service. She told us she would have to go pick up jumper cables and she would return in 10 minutes. This angel is disguise did just that. With so many people in our community, you would think more people would come to help. We had to just let everyone know how wonderful she truly is. We were blessed to have her. Hands down!! Thank you Jessica. We pray your goodwill will return to you 10 times fold. God bless you. read more

To my surprise the gas station is closed. No notice if it is going to reopen. Would of been nice to have a sign up as to what is going on.

This store is always out of basics, does not carry the selection the smaller stores carry. I've had friends tell me they do not like this particular Safeway and will go out of their way to the other end of Contra Costa or to Willow Pass which is what I normally do. They usually only have one checker and the self check out's. I've never seen more than one checker working. I was there two days ago and bought a loaf of bread that had a bug inside the bag. I keep saying I'll never go back but when you are right there at the bank or by the mall I always say give them one more try, only to be let down... Also, their prices are higher than other Safeway's and they do not put as many items on sale as the other stores which is very frustrating! read more

Worst. Safeway. Ever. Full of lazy workers who come out chewing food from the back room to come help you at the customer service desk. The western union sign also says from 10 to 7 pm so if I come at 645 and have to wait for 15 mins for someone to come out and then tell me "oh yeah, it's closed" THATS YOUR FAULT NOT MINE. I work 9 hour shifts so when I rush to Safeway to get money sent to family in need and your not there until the time stated, and just mosey on out 15 mins later THATS SOME BULLSHIT. read more

I like how this store is really big and has a lot more selection than some of the other Safeways around in the area. I also like the self-checkouts. However, there is one deli worker here that I really do not like. She's always rude to me when I get a sandwich made. Well, only gotten one from there twice before, but she made them both times. She has a bad attitude and makes rude remarks when I'm just simply giving her my order. The sandwich I order isn't even difficult to make! I only ask for like 3 things on it! The first time she made it she kept screwing up and putting stuff I didn't want on it, and when I politely corrected her, she was rude with me and acted like it was my fault! No, it's not my fault you screw up! Don't know her name. She always mentions to me about how she's worked a long day and has difficult orders to make, so I guess that's why she's angry, but she should never take out her frustration on customers. Anyway, besides one rude sandwich maker, the Safeway is pretty sweet. read more

It is 10/31/15 I made a mistake going to this Safeway again. The cashier Pauline and a middle eastern courtesy clerk were just plain ridiculous!! My husband and I went shopping and as we are at the checkout, Pauline is ringing my groceries up and the courtesy clerk is shoving my groceries into the customers bag in front of me. My husband told them both that he thought our stuff was going into the other customers bag. It was all messed up. After going to my car, we realized that I was missing chips. So I went back In and Miss Pauline made it seem like it was my husband's fault that we didn't get our chips for some reason. I told Pauline that they need to pay attention and monitor what they are doing better. I asked if she thinks they may have put anything else of ours in the other customers bag but she said NO it was just the chips. The courtesy clerk did a horrible job bagging my groceries. She basically smashed everything in the bag like she was rushing and didn't care. When I got home, I realized that the freaken ROMAINE LETTUCE of all things was missing!! Wow!!! What the heck!! This store just doesn't want me to have romaine lettuce I guess! I called the manager Michael which he apologized and told me to come In when I want and he will get me the romaine lettuce. I'll go there soon but I really don't want to step one foot back into that store again geez! read more

Get your rewards card, it's a great deal of savings on fuel(up to a dollar a gallon) if you shop there fairly often. If your shopping at Safeweasel without a club card, then your spending TOO MUCH and NOT SAVING ENOUGH on fuel or food!!!! read more

Seriously, Safeway, why? On top of being out of several things I wanted, ONLY SELF CHECKOUT open with a LINE of annoyed customers. It literally took us an extra 15-20 minutes in line because there was one issue after another with the checkout.. and we weren't the only ones. There were two employees manning the kiosks and they were both being called constantly. So we kept having to wait our turn. There were no grocery bags; I had to go get some from the (closed !) checkout stand. The final straw was I was buying a Kombucha.. which has a trace amount of alcohol in it.. so you have to go to another station and pay for that separately with the attendant. I can't remember when going to the grocery store was more annoying. We all know Safeway consistently understaffs it's stores but - give me a break. Never again. Not this store. It's laughable that both corporate and the individual stores, by the way, see their miserable two star ratings and do NOTHING to fix the consistent complaints you will note if you scroll through a few reviews. Amazon is coming, with it's no checkout stores. And guess what? You'll wish you'd have fixed a thing or two while y'all still had jobs! read more

I can understand a 24 hour store having minimal staff devoted to check-out between 11pm - 6am. I can gather items for purchase and be looking for a checker at 6:50am on a weekday (as I did today) and there will be no self check lanes open and no checkers assisting customers. Roaming around a bit I did see employees in the isles restocking and straightening; Blazing a new trail, I asked one of them for help and he alerted another employee who sauntered off but not quite in the direction of a check stand (yet), but he did go toward the front end. As customers began to line up - I'm now at the back of the growing line (five separate parties at this point) he is still straightening up some items just outside of an adjacent check stand. Just as I exhale a bit of personal stress and give up hope choosing to make my way toward the exit and in the direction of my own job, I look back over my shoulder and notice he has now returned to 'sell groceries' mode. Makes me wonder: 1) Why bother with this store and the frustrations it fosters? (a regular occurrence in the morning.) 2) When will Pleasant Hill get a replacement grocery store that employs a staff whom actually care whether or not items are being sold? I tried calling the store ten minutes later but no answer, only the seemingly eternal, automated hold, followed by an equally automatic and abrupt/unprompted hang-up. ::sigh:: So, I called again (an hour later); the woman I spoke with was honest, understanding and frank about ongoing problems that a new manager is working to correct. She also explained that the employee who was put there to assist customers (me) this morning was deaf and mute. ::yikes:: I felt bad for him - what a set up for fail! Apparently a cash register had locked up and he didn't know what to do except to continue straightening up. (now I want to go back and give the guy a reassuring hug. Maybe this time he'll write me a note? Sheesh!) I'm sure this Safeway can accommodate his disabilities and/or find another position for him that does not require hearing and speech. I'm not an expert on this specific situation, but it strikes me as an inappropriate match in terms of job duties/expectations and his personal abilities that are limited by permanent disability. I thanked the woman for the insider information that helped me understand what happened this time around. But I could not help looking back at the other times I've had similar experiences at this store. God help these people! I'll put back two stars for attempting to help persons with a disability. The Drive Up & Go is awful!! No one answers the phone number and the intercom is horrible because of the freeway noise. Called customer service in the store and 25 minutes later I still don't have my stuff. I could have done my shopping in the store and been home by the time I actually get my groceries. Don't go here if your black they treat you like sh**... I lived here for the summer and this was the closest one to me. Every time me and my family would go here they were so rude to us. The first time we noticed it was when an old black lady wouldn't sell my husband no Beer because his ID was expired mind u a white man before us got beer no ID and the lady behind us got beer and she even spoke up for us and asked they lady was she was acting like that with us she just rolled her eyes.. then when we were leaving she yelled " u can't take that basket with u" as if we would steal a Safeway basket. Remind you we go shopping there almost everyday. The next day again we get the same lady in self check out just as we were about to pay an messages comes up saying we need assistance she sat there and acted like we were not there and out walks an employee he acted liked he was just walking by but then stopped and checked every one of our items as if again we will steal.. later on in the week we go back and we get food from the deli and the old lady makes us check out there but it's 3pm in the middle of the day and some how we are there first and only customers... I spend to much money at Safeway to be treat as I'm a thief everyday I step in this store. Not all black ppl steal!!! But shout out to the old man that works there when I see him I know he is going to treat me with kindness just like all other shoppers I wish I knew his name. I'm done with Safeway read more

I want to thank the bakery for producing some quality sourdough baguettes...I wish the other safeways could follow there recipe(yeah i've checked other stores breads and they don't)...nice crunch, amazing smell and soft inside....and the flower arrangements were a big hit at the casa....thank u read more

The customer service here has gone down hill tremendously in the last few months. Today i was waiting in line and there was a group of 3 adults. They were purchasing alcohol they were clearly all of age and i get that the checker needs to check id's of people that appear under the age of 30. But she was rude to them, demanding they all 3 show id. Even after they all showed id she still wasnt satisfied. But eventually rung them out and they were on their way. I just have two bottles of water , i type in my club card # and she tells me the price and its more than what was listed. So i tell the sign says its 69 cents each. She huffs and rolls her eyes and says enter your stupid card #. Which i had already done. So apparently this was too much for her to have to type it in herself. Kept on sighing and rolling her eyes. Older short lady named Regina V. I believe. She does not belong in customer service. Horrible. read more

Nice big store but the produce section is totally wonky and random in their placement of items, very hard to navigate and find things. Also, mama loves cheap gas but every time I go half the pumps are down for repair. Not every once in a while like at other stations, but EVERY TIME! read more

I had a very unpleasant experience in your 1978 Contra Costa Blvd location in Pleasant Hill on Friday afternoon. I arrived to find zero carts or baskets at the entrance to the store. I went in and asked the man working self check out for help and he did radio to someone about it, but after standing around for 5 minutes and not seeing anyone to help I went back outside and to the other entrance but still no carts anywhere. Then I went to customer service and her excuse was "we've been busy today". Finally I had to walk to the end of the parking lot to find my own cart. Keep in mind that I am 7 months pregnant and it was 100 degrees out. Everyone was completely unapologetic and unwilling to assist. Once I finally got to do my shopping they were out of most shredded cheese, causing me to have to pay extra for more expensive cheese that I didn't want. The store was very bare, many shelves missing items. When I complained about this to my check out person he was also unapologetic. I hate to say it but I think I'm going to have to start shopping at Lucky's because the customer service and products are lacking so significantly at this location read more

I love this store BUT they sell EXPIRED goods. Yogurts, cheese, breads & also lunchables for kids!!! GROSSSS!!! I complained & explained many times but every now & then i still find items that are expired. SO PLEASE BEWARE OF EXPIRED ITEMS. read more

I love this Safeway. I always find everything I need and everything is always fresh. I also love the gas prices BECAUSE, shopping here give you points towards a gas discount. Example: 5 Safeway points = $.50 off a gallon. I feel I'm rewarded for my frequent shopping. Great deli, great asian food, great hot food. I only gave this store a one because its nice inside. the employees are rudw eude rude. everytime my 2 year old son and i go in there (he is loud and hyper but generally cheerful) the employees stare at me.. imade the mistake of letting my son bring a piece of bagel in with him to munch on so he would chill for a minute so i could grab some rolls and the cashier woman herassed me with her eyes insinuating i was stealing and ever since then i feel like I'm being stalked. that is unacceptable. read more

This Safeway has U.S.Bank and Starbucks inside. This review will represent my experience about Safeway and its employees and products only. I have seen most of the the employees working here are from the old store that closed down by DVC on Camelback road . The parking lot is not big enough in the sense that it's shared by Safeway,Nordstrom Rack(which was preceded by CVS Pharmacy) and probably by nice citizens who parked their cars there and decided to just dine at lucille's BBQ or BJ's next door or wanted to go to other stores in the mall and didn't care to move their cars to a different parking lot. Let's go inside now. If you enter from the door that is by starbucks sitting area you will see chicken oven the first thing and little on the left sandwiches and old chickens in the refrigerated area. On right as you go a little further you will see the fresh and warm food,deli area where you will see most of the workers are asians .I dislike when I am walking by and I overhear employees having a conversation with each other in a language that is not English.I feel that it brings down the level of professionalism and doesn't show consideration from good mannerism from employees' side.It is flat rude. I like pot stickers and fried rice they have in that section.You can also eat inside by Starbucks where half of that area is for Starbucks and the other half is for Safeway.I know this because Furniture is different in both halves. I like their fresh meat section where you get non-packaged meat and buy per pound and they have put spices in some of them so you just cook in oven . I like bulk confectionaries right behind the aisle of wine bottles.You can get discount if you have Just4u app. Lines are long most of the times unless you go at ungodly hour.At self checkout there are always one or two stations that are out of order and at working stations there is always someone who can't figure out or they need to call manager to get an override. On fridays and saturdays they have a good deal on rotisserie chicken. I like that the signs hanging down from the top indicating the locations of products are outside of the aisle and horizontal unlike most of the other Safeway stores where signs are inside the aisle and vertical.With this store the benefit is that you can stand at the aisle at the very end and still figure out what is where unlike other stores where you will have to go through each aisle to realise what is where. Outside they have tables and chairs to sit with patio umbreall where most of the times you will see homeless or almost homeless people occupying the chairs same is the case with their bathrooms inside.They also have ice machine in that area. They also have some gas machine in the cage where I have seen a rhino's picture on the cylinder I don't know which gas that is.They have floral department ,pharmacy,money orders at the front desk,lottery tickets,sratchers tickets. read more

Ordered a birthday cake 3 weeks ago. Came in today to pick it up at the agreed time and was told it wasn't ready and would be at least an hour late. The birthday party was in 20 minutes. On top of that their airbrush machine for the cakes was broken so we couldn't even get the cake we ordered. I knew we shouldn't have gone with Safeway for this and now never will again. read more

WARNING: NEVER ORDER A CAKE FROM THEIR BAKERY DEPARTMENT! I made the mostake of ordering my wedding cake (yes, I should have know better) at this Safeway. I thought because their just revamped their entire wedding cake program that the cake would at least look nice which is why I went ahead and ordered from them. The cake was supposed to available for pick up at 10:00 am. My fiance and his dad got their at 10:30 to pick it up and it still wasn't ready. Then the bakery manager, Melissa, asked where to put our cake topper.... hello, on the top! When she gabe the cake to my fiance and father in law the cake looked like something I coild have made myslef at home. When the got into the car all the decoratove flowers feel off because they were not properly attached. It ruined the entire cake. Then as soon as they began to drive (very slowly) the layers of the became lopped sided. I was so emmbarrased of the cake at my reception. I don't want any bride ti have to go through that which is why I complained to the store manager. However, when I did he seemed very indifferent and just said, " oh ok, I'll talk to her." That furthered my frustration which is why I am writing this review/warning to all possible victims to this horrible store! read more

This Safeway is always clean and the employee's for the most part are friendly and very helpful when I have asked for assistance. Had it not been for the self check out system I would have rated much lower. I do not understand why there are at least 10 or more people stocking items and sometimes not a single register open. A couple of times a few customers and myself waited a minimum of 5 minutes to get someone to check us out. This is usually late at night when one would think it would be the best time to avoid lines. Wrong! On March 16,2014 right after midnight I was shocked to see that one register was open with at least 7/8 people in front of me. "Bob" the friendly cashier was doing the best he could with checking and bagging. Two young men got behind me then more people came and next thing you know there were eleven (11) people waiting behind me. I am not kidding! 11 people behind me were waiting and the line had not really moved. I told the young men behind me to hold my spot and sought out an employee to advise them that there were many people in line. Finding one was no problem, since there was one looking right at us from the isle where he was stocking items. He told me as he pointed towards the door to talk to his manager who happened to be walking in from outside (right past the long line of customers). I saw him looking at the line and thought he would get someone to open a register and therefore I did not say anything. To my horror he goes directly to where the other gentleman was stocking and starts to help him. I kept looking back at them and noticed at one point that they both glanced my way and quickly turned away when they saw me looking their way. If this was indeed the manager, I would like to know why a manager would allow this happen and also why a store that takes pride in the professional appearance of their employee's would allow a manager to show up to work looking so poorly. This person looked like they just woke up, sleeves rolled up, filthy shirt, haired messed up and most importantly, no name tag or anything identifying him as a manager let alone an employee. Do not get me wrong though, for the most part, this store is great and clean and the self check out lines are fantastic. 95% of the employee's are friendly and helpful. When they have been out of an item I had no problem having someone assist me. So my question is "Why is there a problem with getting more than one cashier when there are so many people in line? I understand the importance of having plenty items stocked for customers but are customers not just as important? read more
