Saag Lamb and Paneer Chili with Garlic Naan, extremely tasty
    myles f.

Simple, limited two dish takeout last night -- very satisfying. Saag Lamb was delightfully NOT overly creamy. Good flavor. Meat was tender. Extra spicy as ordered. Paneer in Chili Sauce was also good, in the Indo-Chinese fashion of sweet and tangy with crisp onions and peppers. Garlic Naan was fine but would have been better there as is always the case. My previous reviews praised the restaurant while criticizing over oiliness. No oiliness last night. Recommended.

We ordered tikka masala, murg shahi korma and garlic naans. Tikka Masala was amazing. So flavorful and rich. Murg shahi korma was also great, but lighter compared to what I usually ate in other places, so tikka masala was a highlight of the meal. Garlic naans were above average - good but nothing special. Coming back for more tikka masala. Also the portions were not that big

This little shopping center has a ton of small restaurants so it's easy to get lost in the mix. I've somehow never eaten at saffron and was excited to try it for lunch as it was in such an easy location. We got there when they opened and were their first patrons for the day. We were greeted immediately and our server was friendly and attentive. We had two children and they were quick to bring over the high chairs we needed. This small detail earned them five stars immediately, so many restaurants treat children like an annoyance. Our server was great with treating them like people. As for the menu, it had a ton of options. I'm not super familiar with all of the items but it all sounded great. I got the chicken tikka masala with white rice and an order of garlic naan. The portions seemed smaller than some Indian restaurants I've been too but they were perfect for one person, I had a little bit leftover so nothing major. I got "medium" spice and wish I had asked for it to be a little spicier as that was fairly mild. That being said the flavor was phenomenal. The garlic naan was so so so so good. I was annoyed with myself for not having more space in my body to eat more. We will definitely be back.

    Steel wool shards?

The food was okay overall. I ordered the lamb pasanda and saag paneer, which were both solid. However, the butter chicken and chicken tikka masala tasted identical -- both overwhelmingly tomatoey, with very little distinct flavor or Indian seasoning. The dal makhani was more like a plain lentil stew than a proper Indian dish -- not bad, just completely lacking the creaminess or depth you'd expect. I'm also glad we didn't eat there. As my son pointed out, the place smelled like a public restroom -- a mix of cleaning chemicals and something unpleasant underneath. The floors were filthy, and while I was waiting for my food, I watched one of the workers packing up a to-go order sneeze directly onto the containers twice, then turn and sneeze a third time into his hand -- which he didn't wash. I could literally see the spray land on the food. I seriously considered asking for a refund on the spot. Note: after continuing to eat I discovered something on my mouth too tough to eat. after pulling it out, it seems to be steel wool shards from a cleaning sponge. Picture attached.

I've been to both locations but I'll give a boost to this spot. There's really not much to say. When Indian food is done well, you just know. All the dishes we tried had a wonderful harmony of flavors and made us realize that THIS is the place to go for Indian food if you reside in central/downtown Austin. Paneer Tikka Masala - delicious. Plenty of additional curry to dip your naan into. Chicken Lazeez - This was a little different than the typical spinach (palak) dishes we get at other restaurants. But wow, this was tasty and addicting. Definitely recommend. Chili Momo - another dish that was familiar yet different. We've had momos before (Nepalese dumplings) and we've had chicken chili, which is a Nepalese flavor that is something in between an Indian and Chinese flavor profile. But we never had momos in the chili sauce. This was fantastic! Satisfying portions, great service, and happy bellies. If you want Indian food, GO HERE.

Best Indian food in Austin. From what I understand, Indian food can be subtly different depending upon the region and this restaurant mostly represents Southern India regions. We have been to the other location of which we are big fans and I can say they are extremely consistent with their food. This visit we came on a Saturday evening and although they were busy, we were able to get a table quickly with no reservations. I'm sure everything on the menu is great, but our favorites are Chicken Tikka Masala and the Chicken Murg Shahi Korma and the Garlic Naan is amazing! This time we also had the Chicken Biryani. If you enjoy Chicken Tikka Masala, you need to come here! We order it "medium" spice and it's just the right amount. Even if you don't like things spicy, I recommend getting it medium. I have never had Chicken Murg before Saffron but it's boneless with a creamy cashew and pistachio sauce. Again, recommend ordering it medium spice. It's a chicken dish identical to the Tikka Masala but just a different sauce, but it's an amazing sauce! It's obvious they make the Naan bread and bake it fresh when you order it. I've had garlic naan before and at other places, you can barely taste the garlic and the breads taste like they have been premade. This the naan bread here tastes fresh out of the oven and made the minute you order and not made ahead of time. The Biryani is also very good. If you have never had Indian food before, you will be pleasantly surprised if you come here and just start with the Chicken Tikka Masala and naan bread. If you enjoy Indian food, you must come here. We live about 45 minutes away and this is our "go to" for Indian food. The only thing we don't like is the way they handle the check. The servers are very friendly, but when it's time for the check, they bring it to you with an electronic device and the server just stands there hovering over you. It's incredibly annoying to have someone standing there who won't go away until you have decided on a tip and paid. I couldn't even see how to review the check so I just have to assume I'm not being charged for anything I didn't order. The other Saffron will leave the bill, like EVERY other restaurant, allow you time to look the bill over and take your time. But here, they stand over you and won't leave until you have selected a tip and paid. Very rude.

I ordered the chili chicken momo to go for lunch and they were delicious! Food was hot when I picked it up and well wrapped to prevent leaks. The momos were fat and tasty and the sauce was just spicy enough to make my nose run! The sauce is a little sweeter than I'd personally prefer but really no complaints it was bomb.

Note: this review is for take out. We ordered takeout and the food was out of this world. We were genuinely impressed with everything we ordered = the Saffron Chicken Lazeez, Baigan Bhartha, Chicken Tikka Kebab, and Kolonji Paneer Tikka. Each dish had its own distinct flavor profile. you could taste the delicious smoked eggplant in the Baigan Bhartha. The Saffron chicken Lazeez was unlike anything I've ever had and again the flavors and textures just meshed so well together! The Kolonji Paneer Tikka and the Chicken Tikka Kabob were both cooked to perfection. Personally, I prefer Indian restaurants that use minimal oil and pay meticulous attention to crafting specific flavors for each dish. This place is my new favorite and I will definitely be back!

    Achari Aloo Lamb. Great!
    Brian W.

I thought this place was pretty good. A few things were hit or miss, but for the most part very tasty, with friendly service. Came here with a colleague for lunch. There was hardly anyone there when we arrived, but a good crowd came in while we dined. We both ordered samosas. I got the Achari Aloo Lamb, and my friend got a chicken tikka masala. Some garlic naan as well. Have to say that the entree was fantastic - hearty and spiced just right (the waiter and I had discussed spice options). Very flavorful. The samosas and naan - not so much. Not bad, just kind of bland. I'd like to try some other things. Fast friendly service. Check it out.

Came here for dinner, it's our second time. We really love the food and service. Great staff, very attentive. Food is delicious. One of my places to go to when I'm craving Indian food. Will def keep coming back. My fave dish is the butter chicken, yum!

Had to try out the clam chowder and it was one of the best clam chowder I've had quite some time. You could easily taste the clams at a really nice consistency not too thin, not too thick and I didn't even have to add any salt to it. It was just really tasty. When the clam trotter was delivered, I happened to look at what other plates were on the serving tray ready to go out in one of them happen to be this phenomenal salmon dish. I asked the gentleman what it was and he said it was his favorite dish on the menu, so of course had to try it the salmon dish absolutely out of this world the glaze on it side. It came with it. Everything just fit really well together and y'all that plate was clean by the time it went back. This place is definitely on my shortlist as I really would like to try some of their other plates again that salmon and the clam chowder really made an impression and highly rate this place if you're looking for a good seafood place in Austin. The seafood was not good. Not "not my favorite," not "a little off" -- just plain not good. The calamari was cooked well, but I felt like it was missing a little something flavor-wise. The green sauce tasted more like a salsa, and I think some extra seasoning or even more lemon would have made it perfect. The BBQ shrimp was SO good!! The bread that came with it was amazing for dipping into the sauce. The sauce definitely has a little kick to it, so be prepared if you're sensitive to spice! For drinks, we tried the Shipwreck Spritz and Sea Mist. The Shipwreck Spritz was so refreshing and genuinely tasted how a beach house smells if that makes any sense lol. The Sea Mist was also really good and had more of a spicy/refreshing flavor. For our mains, we got the fish and chips and wood grilled oysters. The oysters were super flavorful, and my fish was cooked perfectly. Similar to the calamari, I just felt like the sauce with the fish and chips could have used a little more flavor. We finished with espresso martinis, which usually aren't my favorite, but I actually really enjoyed these! Overall, we had such a great anniversary dinner and loved the atmosphere, food, and service. I'm giving it 4 stars just because a few of the dishes felt like they were missing that extra bit of flavor, but Perla's is still such a great spot and somewhere I'd absolutely come back to!

We went for dinner on a Thursday night. It was pretty busy, but they were able to sit us inside…read more They do have outside seating as well. The place is very cute and they have a great menu. I saw the lobster roll and jumped on it. It was a good size and they were not skimpy on the lobster. The bread was buttery and toasty. I had the coleslaw, but you do have options for your side. The coleslaw is creamy and tasty. For my drink, I have the Prosecco. You can never go wrong with Prosecco. Everyone was very nice.

This is the Austin branch of the Hutto Cajun Seafood Truck Pete's Seafood…read more They used to be at the Picnic on Barton Springs Road. They have moved up to 5000 Burnet. This shows they have good taste, good judgement and want to be near neighboring trucks that serve fine food. * * * How is Pete's? a) Nearly all Cajun seafood is good. Cajun seafood is like chocolate. There is better. There is worse. It is never bad. b) Pete's boiled Cajun shrimp is completely lovely. I would eat this over and over again. Since Pete's is near my house, I intend to become a regular. c) Cajun seafood is much easier to eat in a restaurant than at a food truck. This is because the final concoction is wet (due to the boiling stock) oily (because the oils make things taste good) and bright red (because of the spices.) You are looking at a dry cleaner's dream. In a restaurant you get solid plates and bowls to eat the good stuff in. At Pete's you get a Styrofoam container to hold the mess. This is like using a cotton bag to take home red paint. Fortunately, the slosharound stayed within the plastic bag the Styrofoam container was placed in. But one pinprick and it would have been upholstery cleaning time. d) The spices in Pete's seafood is NOT even. There WILL be the big bites of salt and the big bites of cayenne pepper. Be sure to order boiled potatoes as your side and save two or three to the end. You will need them to put out mouth emergencies. e) The non-emergency bites are wonderful. Having to put out fires with potatoes is a fair price for a meal with a lot of taste thrills. * * * Thumbs up for the seafood. Double thumbs up for the potatoes.

I wanted to share my two cents on this food truck. This place is a gem! I tried the boiled shrimp…read morewith potatoes, sausage and corn with honey Cajun sauce. Everything was cooked to mouthwatering perfection, just unbelievably tasty! The gentleman was so nice and straightforward, he really knows what he's doing. I asked him for his input on the sauces, he gave me an honest answer and recommended the honey Cajun to me, and I'm glad he did! He did inform me that the drink fridge was down so all the drinks weren't cold, I thanked him and told him it wasn't a big deal. I'm glad he was honest. It is a bit on the pricey side, but if you're looking for amazing seafood with nice big portions, this is the place to come to! I will definitely be back
