Not only did I once work here, and ate there every day.... but I ate there all the time when we lived in JC. I'll definitely be picking some up when I come into town to visit. It's not fair that we only have one Indian restaurant in town, but it is good because it's an excellent restaurant! There are plenty of options for all dietary needs. I'm a vegetarian and they will go out of your way to make sure I have plenty of delicious things to eat. They have a buffet at lunch and on the weekend, which is nice if you want to try a lot of things. But nothing is better than ordering from the kitchen. If you're scared to try Indian, don't be! You can ask the server to make a recommendation for you. If you are unfamiliar with Indian, I recommend tikka masala, you can get it with any meat (such as chicken), or paneer which is cheese - and kind of has a tofu texture. And make sure to order some Naan bread. It sounds silly, but one of my most favorite things to order there is the tomato soup. Our family of 6 went to Sahib and it was quite possibly the best indian food I've ever eaten. We had eaten a big breakfast that morning and snacked throughout the day, so I was the only one hungry, but we took leftovers home and enjoyed it even more the following days. Eggplant curry was enjoyed by even the young children. The raita was uniquely flavored instead of just sour cream and cucumbers. We're lucky to have Sahib. Sahib has been a great lunch Indian food buffet in JC for years. Now, in the new (and much improved) location, it's even better! I love it at lunch. At night, it's more of an intimate table-service affair. There have been times when they do a dinner buffet, but that isn't the case right now. "Indian food" is a huge category, and there are seemingly infinite opinions about it. There are a few Sahib detractors, but many more fans. My favorites are the Chili Chicken, Tikka Masala, Na'an bread, Tandoori Chicken, and the mango drink. There are several options for your vegetarian friends here and even for folks who don't like spicy food. The staff are super hospitable and always seem happy to help you order and decide about options. There's a full bar, private parking, and clean facilities. Edit: I brought a vegan friend here at lunch and the staff/owner bent over backwards to accommodate her diet requests. I kind of anticipated this, but she was super impressed. read more

Wow! Sahib definitely blew my expectations out of the water for drive through Indian! As soon as the window was opened, the delicious aroma of curry flooded out. The employee was very friendly and thought to ask about all the extras like plates, silverware, and cups of water. We got the lunch specials and the portions were generous. The tikka masala sauce was rich and buttery. I ordered mild and it wasn't super spicy so I'd recommend getting medium or hot if you like some kick. My husband got coconut curry and it was also full of flavor. The garlic naan was outstanding as well! If we lived closer, I think we'd be getting takeout from here on a weekly basis lol! read more

The place is really nice inside and they have an outdoor patio space where you can do sheesha. We ordered the mix appetizer, chicken tikka, and vegetable jalfrezi. Everything was delicious !! The mix appetizer came sizzling and it was the best thing I experienced that day. I don't have a lot of luck with good chicken tikka and this one sure did please. The jalfrezi was good but a little too oily and spicy. I ordered medium but I feel like they amped it up because as a brown person entering an Indian restaurant and only seeing non-desi people, I was hesitant at their heat level so I questioned it before ordering it. Unfortunately, I don't live in Tennessee but whenever I come back, I will surely visit. read more

This place is an unexpected gem on our travels. The food was the best Indian we have eaten since we left the U.K. in 2004. Tender lamb Naram Garam, samosa and Tandoori roti. The place was packed (a good sign) but the service was prompt despite this. On top of it all we were able to eat everything at a leisurely rate. Fantastic. And the price was very reasonable too. On our recent visit to Kingsport, TN...we saw this was The only Indian restaurant in the tri cities area. We went there twice and the food was ok. First day we ordered Malai Kofta and Veg Jalfrezi. Koftas were not soft and jalfrezi was oily. Next day Veg Biryani, bhuni bhindi and daal tarka. Biryani and daal tarka tasted good...but then everything was very oily. The papadum they gave had a certain smell...like stale oil was used to fry them. Overall ambience is moderate...they can try to keep the place more cleaner. read more

We live in Greeneville and ordered here for the first time tonight for takeout. Got there right before close to pick it up (so so sorry about that, by the way!) which I usually wouldn't do but work ran later than normal. Even still, everything was nicely packaged up and still warm and delicious after an additional 45 minute drive home. We haven't had Indian since we moved here ten months ago so I couldn't decide what I wanted and got a little bit of everything. The samosas were amazing and so crispy flaky and absolutely stuffed with filling and the brown sauce was incredible with them. I also tried the Aloo Tikki for the first time which was amazing and perfectly spiced and loaded so full of chickpeas and potatoes. I also got the Malai Kofta, the veggie balls are huge and have such a good flavor and texture, and the sauce is slightly sweet and so good with both rice and the garlic naan. Overall I would give this restaurant 11/10, 6 stars, highest rating possible. I will definitely be making a point to go here more often and grab takeout when I'm in town, but at an earlier time of day next time! Was suggested by so many that if I was to go here for my first visit, I have to go during their lunch buffet. So I did... I had mixed feelings here. Mainly because yes, the lunch buffet for the price and options is quite good... but having eaten some amazing Middle Eastern cuisine I felt it was a bit Americanized. Nothing wrong with that at all, hence the 4 stars. The service was really good, gentleman that attended to us was awesome despite a tad bit of distraction on his end but I seen that behavior before in myself... trying to still provide excellent service despite being beat from a lunch rush lol!! So yeah, service really good and I can imagine it's top notch if he was in tip top condition. Studying the way they are, I can TELL they can make some mean dishes. So my next visit, I will dig deeper into their real menu, as the buffet items didn't truly represent real Indian food to me (nor did it try too hard to). If you haven't had Indian food before, I HIGHLY recommend you go try their lunch buffet. It is a GREAT introductory to Indian cuisine, and when you're ready for the next step I'm quite sure these guys can make that happen. Oh! They have Indian beers too!!!! This is one of the few Indian restaurants in the tri cities. The lack of competition isn't hurting them any. I got so full off the buffet my stomach hurt and I'm not even complaining. The vindaloo is already spicy so I recommend asking for no spicy on that if you're not good with really spicy food. The ambience was nice and the service was great. That which is supposed to be hot, actually is. All the main dishes I've had: Korma, Tikka Masala, Vindaloo, Lamb Pasandra, Coconut mango lamb are excellent. What else I've had is generally very good. Sahib was an "accidental" find during our trip to Ashville. We were not going to be able to make it in time for other halal places to be open so we decided to give this place a try and man are we glad we did so? You can probably understand the depth of their authenticity when I say that "even my mom complimented their food". Their biryani was wonderful and so were their paratha, some of which I have brought home with me to Orlando. Most tables full and many people coming in for carry out. We did have a reservation but I don't think they asked for it when we arrived, so it must not be all that important. The menu food is very good although I would rate the lunch buffet about a 3.5. We went with 9 people for dinner on a Saturday night and they were able to seat us in a few minutes. They made mango lasses to order while we waited and dressed them up with chocolate and whipped cream for the younger guests. The service was excellent and the staff very engaging.
