An out of the way, slightly hard to find but worth the drive Vietnamese spot. Took my teen to check out Saiga last night cuz we love noods . They're located in an industrial center up the street from SNA that while tucked away from the busy street, has ample free parking. I'd wanted to check them out for a few months, but they were only open during lunch hours, so we can never make it. But they have now extended their hours to include dinner up until 6:30p so we were finally able to come! Easy ordering through the kiosk on the wall with a great variety of noodle and rice dishes as well as drinks! Highly recommend the garlic noodles, pork belly fried rice and of course the pho! They have lots of parking options outside the restaurant. Inside, you can order at the cashier and sit at one of the tables or take it home to enjoy. Food: The kimchi fried rice with pork belly hits the spot. They add an egg on top which is a great touch. As a Korean the fried rice was indeed delicious and worth a try. The Pork belly banh mi is a MUST TRY!! The bread is crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside-- I love it. The pork belly inside is perfectly salted and the carrots are sweet to offset the pork belly. As for drinks I love the iced Vietnamese coffee!!! I drank the whole thing in like 5 minutes. So good. And keeps you up if you are falling asleep midday. Their milk tea is super sweet but I added more ice to get it a little watered down and it was perfect that way. They also have catering that they focus on during on the weekend (also offered during weekdays) so hit them up for your next big order! Saiga offers takeout, boxed lunches and catering too! And yes the food is made to order so yeah it's guaranteed fresh! The Costa Mesa location is more established than the Orange location, therefore the quality was WAY better. We ordered the Kimchi Fried rice with pork belly and the pork belly Banh mi and they were equally delicious. The proportions of proteins to carbs to veggies were very balanced. There are two things I definitely can't say no to: noodles and sandwiches. Saiga Eatery is located in a business plaza but the quality of their food is dine-in restaurant level. Usually, to-go food can be questionable but the taste was immaculate for both the banh mi and vermicelli. The BBQ Chicken Vermicelli comes with a sweet, vinegary red sauce that you mix in and I loved that the carrots were pickled. The chicken is also pretty juicy and it's a refreshing lunch. They're known for their pork belly but I'm a bigger fan of grilled so I chose that as my protein for the banh mi. It was very mayo-heavy which I didn't mind but if you're not a fan of sauce just beware. I accidentally left mine on the table while dog-sitting, and she snatched my other half of the banh mi and ate it all. To finish off our meal, my brother and I each got a drink: Iced Vietnamese Coffee and Thai Tea. They're both definitely on the sweet side because the flavors were very concentrated. They're only open during lunch hours but they work efficiently to get your food out quickly because I'm sure they're catering to the people who work nearby and don't have a long break. Staff came out to confirm my order. Sat at one of several tiny tables. Food was assembled and bagged to go per the business model relatively quickly. I ordered combo pho, Vietnamese coffee and popcorn chicken. Pho was fresh, broth was on the salty side which is probably why another reviewer mentioned it. It didn't quite land where I wanted but the meat was done very well. Popcorn chicken had a floury taste, shy of being seasoned the way I normally prefer. It doesn't have the flavor that you may expect from a Taiwanese style restaurant. They have some prepackaged pho for under $10 that they prep and assemble in store. The pork belly didn't have much fat which was a refreshing change. Usually most places I go to have so much fat. The garlic noodles also tasted great. It didn't feel "too much" or greasy. Service is basically nonexistent though, you order on a self-serve kiosk and then they call you when your order is ready, and you get the utensils yourself. I don't really mind this, though. We did have to clean the table ourselves because it was kind of messy. This seems more like a grab and go place for workers to come on their lunch break, but you can also sit here and eat with friends if you're lucky as there is limited seating available.
