Saigon Bistrot is located in a plaza with plenty of parking. The restaurant is pretty small inside with limited tables, but my friend and I got seated immediately which is good. Unfortunately that's where the good ends. I had gotten a surgery a few days prior and still had a pretty low appetite, so I wanted pho but knew I wouldn't be able to finish a full sized bowl. Since they don't offer different portion sizes, I asked if I could order the pho dac biet from the kids' menu instead. I honestly expected there was a 50/50 chance she would say no, which would've been completely fine, but she agreed to let me order it. What made the interaction grossly uncomfortable was that after agreeing, she repeatedly reminded me that she normally never allow adults to order from the kids' menu and was only making an exception because my friend ordered 2 entrees. She mentioned it several times, even after our food had already been brought out. After getting my pho, I asked whether I would receive everything the menu listed as coming with my order, she told me no and that adults only receive the soup, which confused me since I was still ordering and paying for that menu item. If allowing me to order from the kids' menu was really that much of an issue, I would've preferred for her to simply tell me no from the beginning. I wouldn't have had a problem with that at all. What bothered me was agreeing to it and then repeatedly emphasizing that she was doing me a favor, which made the whole interaction feel like an unnecessary guilt trip. At the end of the day, I was still eating and paying for the food. I just wanted a portion I could actually finish. As for the food quality, the broth was way too sweet for me. The sweetness completely dominated the broth and drowned out any of the other flavors I was hoping to taste. I ended up squeezing in several extra lime wedges just to add some acidity and cut through it. My friend had a similar reaction to her 2 entrees, so it didn't seem isolated to just my dish. If a restaurant is going to advertise as fusion, I would hope both cuisines they want to specialize in is yummy. Sadly, the Thai dishes that we had were not that very good. Edible, but flavorless and texture was chewy. I had the Thai yellow curry. I can appreciate the option of having a no spice level, since my tolerance is really low, but I still expect to taste the coconut and herbs from the curry. It was also runny and more broth-like than rich. Unfortunately, I barely tasted any. I ended up taking it home and combining it with my own yellow curry. My friend had the Pad Sa Ew with chicken and the noodles were too mushy and overcooked. Interestingly, it was topped with shredded red cabbage and had both broccoli and Chinese broccoli. She was not able to finish the rest of her meal. We finished with the Mango Sticky Rice and they definitely captured the flavor, but the consistency of the rice was clumpy. This was their only dish, during our visit, that was decent. While I can appreciate all the hard work that goes into starting a restaurant, having a solid menu with good cooking is essential. Stopped for early lunch with my MIL. Been meaning to try this new spot since they opened. Interior is modern & comfortable. An upgrade from previous occupants. My MIL had the pork Ban Mi with side salad. She raved about the sandwich. Not a Chinese style cha sui flavor but more of a soy sauce sugar type roast pork. Salad was dressed lightly with an Asian rice vinegar sugar/honey (maybe ginger) dressing. She LOVED the dressing. My choice of the house pho (rare beef,brisket,tripe & tendon) was SO GOOD! Complex slightly sweet broth. For me, broth really is the star when it comes to pho. It's very good here. There were ample meats & tender tendons. One of the meats was cut a bit thicker than I'm use to. It wasn't difficult to chew, just thicker. Could have used a bit more bean sprouts which was probably available upon asking but we were n a hurry. The coolest thing was the utensil drawer beneath the table. Like a utensil drawer at home which housed the spoons, forks, chopsticks & straws. Had the usual table top condiments:housing, chili sauce, Sriracha, etc. Overall a nice place so close to my neighborhood. We're so happy to have a viet/thai fusion place nearby. It was sorely needed in this neighborhood. With the extensive menu, we both decided we needed several more trips to taste all the menu items we were drooling over. Instead of just taking over the spot they gave it a beautiful makeover adding both booths and tables. Owners Sam and Angela are the friendliest people and they have so much pride in their restaurant. Prices are reasonable with a large selection Vietnamese and Thai dishes that includes a vegetarian section. They've got interesting beverages and desserts too! I live within walking distance of this restaurant so I am really glad they're here! If the menu looks familiar they used to own Saigon District in Huntington Beach and carried over a lot of items. My favorite that they kept is the sautéed tofu salad. Sounds boring yet it's packed with so much flavor and makes for a healthy satisfying meal. The cajun salmon is also delicious! My wife was feeling Pho would be a good choice given the cold weather. We happened to be in Garden Grove that day and thought we'd give this place a shot. My big word for the spot...grace. While the food was quite delicious, our service was sub par. My wife and I were hoping to get in and out in roughly 30 minutes (infant was sleeping). We were sat immediately but no one took our order for literally 20 minutes. I'm sitting across the table from my now angry and frustrated wife. She says "let's just leave." Right as we are closing the menus, our server comes. We obviously ended up staying but to my wife's reluctance. From ordering to food delivery was about 5 minutes. And while the interior is cute and gives a Saigon vibe, my wife was just ready to go. And finally, grace... As we are leaving I spot the "open on X day" sign. My wife, daughter, and I were in the area looking for something flavorful and comforting, and we were all craving Thai and Vietnamese food. After browsing Yelp, we came across Saigon Bistro and decided to give it a try, and wow, what a great decision that was. First impressions: There's plenty of easy parking, and the lot is clean and well kept, which is always a nice start. The restaurant itself is cozy with about 7, 8 booths and a few larger tables in the center, perfect for family style dining. The space feels calm and welcoming, with a relaxed ambiance and very clean surroundings. But what really stood out right away was the hospitality. I always appreciate when restaurant staff are friendly and genuinely seem to care, and that's exactly what we got here. We were welcomed like old friends. Our server, Angela, was amazing. She was warm, professional, and made us feel right at home. You can tell she loves what she does and takes pride in making sure customers leave happy. Now for the food, which totally stole the show. We started with the #12 Bistrot Sampler, which is a must if you want to try a little bit of everything. It came with crispy wings, flavorful potstickers, golden egg rolls, rocket shrimp, a traditional spring roll, grilled pork spring roll, and a chicken spring roll. Everything was hot, fresh, and incredibly tasty, a perfect appetizer plate for the table. Then came the #30 Seafood Deluxe Tom Yum Soup, and it was absolutely packed with flavor. The broth was tangy and spicy, and it had a generous mix of shrimp, scallops, and cuttlefish. It was bold, aromatic, and so comforting. You could tell it was made with care. We also had the #15 Filet Mignon Pho, and that broth, rich and flavorful, was one of the best we've had in a long time. The filet mignon was tender and cooked just right. It was everything you want pho to be, warm, flavorful, and satisfying. But the star of the show? Hands down the #38 Deluxe Garlic Fried Rice with added crawfish. If you come here, don't skip this one. The fried rice was loaded with shrimp, scallops, cuttlefish, and chicken, and the flavor was unreal. The added crawfish took it to another level, seriously, it's a must. Every bite had that perfect mix of garlic, savory seafood, and a satisfying texture that we couldn't get enough of. To drink, we ordered a Thai tea and it was honestly one of the best we've had. You could immediately tell it was homemade, not the powdery kind you sometimes get at other spots. It had the perfect balance of sweetness and creaminess, and paired so well with the savory dishes. And of course, we had to end the meal with something sweet. We tried their crème brûlée, and wow--what a surprise! Silky smooth, perfectly set, with a golden caramelized sugar crust on top. You could tell it was freshly made, not something pre-packaged. It was rich, creamy, and just the right size to share. We also couldn't resist the churro with ice cream, and it was just as good as it sounds. Warm, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside churros served with cold, creamy vanilla ice cream--such a satisfying and nostalgic treat. It was the perfect finish to an already amazing meal. Overall, this was one of the best meals we've had in a long time. Everything from the service to the food and dessert exceeded our expectations.
