I attended a show here last night for the first time. This venue is just not well equipped to handle large crowds. In fact it seemed as if they're over capacity. Add in drunken douchebags and sloppy wasted girls and you can pretty much forget about enjoying whatever band you've come (and paid) to see. Not to mention the fights every few minutes, being pushed, bumped into, having drinks spilled on you, being stepped on, elbowed...the list goes on and on. It was so utterly disappointing and unbearable we decided to leave less than halfway into the band's set. From what we were told by the waiter earlier in the night, you have to show up as soon as they open and make sure to grab a table so you're not stuck standing in the crowd of hooligans and drunken obnoxious fools. No thanks. Once was plenty for me. My recommendation - unless you're one of the many douchebag frat boy rejects or sloppily drunken chicks who seemed to enjoy the hell outta the place, stick this one out. read more

Band rocked! Lighting is great. Great drinks. I really like the size of the spot. Lots of sitting space.

This place shouldn't even exists a concert venue. It's a old bank building with cut up little sections for seating at tables you have to pay additional for if you care about sitting. They have an assortment of SD tv's around that have terrible picture quality. The only way to see the band you paid to see playing is to jam yourself into the mosh pit in front of the sad little stage. really a JOKE of a place. Sad. The show I attended had a couple of loud mouth assholes blabbing through the entire performance. And the management SHOULD have thrown their asses out. What fing morons !!! Went last night for the Poncho Sanchez performance. This was my first time at Saint Rocke. Upon walking in I was very impressed with the decor. It was a lot nicer than I expected!! Super comfortable and classy looking. And the wait staff was very attentive and checked on us every few mintues. You get 5 stars for this! Now why they get 2 stars: Their website is misleading. They open their doors at 6:30 pm and "show at 9 pm". We thought this meant Poncho on stage at 9 pm. Well, we were wrong!!! He got on stage around 11:15 pm and apparently this is customary for this venue. One of the opening acts was a young guy with a guitar that went on and on for 30-45 mins or so of what sounded like the same song. He was beyond annoying. I don't understand how Saint Rocke put this guy on stage prior to a Latin Jazz performer. The two types of music don't go together. When the guy got off the stage I heard people saying loudly "Thank God! It's about time." We were even kidding around how he must've paid Saint Rocke $ to allow him to perform! Next was a latin/flamenco jazz band. They were better. And finally Poncho! By the time, he came on stage at 11:15 pm, lots of people had left! So much that we were able to get a booth for our party of 5 with a great view. And the booth next to us, same thing. The people left before Poncho was on stage. By the way, the booth was super comfy and the waitress was awesome! And the rest of the people who stayed about 1/3 of them were from a local high school there for some a charity fund raising. It was obvious they weren't there for Poncho. They looked annoyed and bored. IF, (Saint Rocke are you listening.......?), the guy on the guitar wouldn't have been so annoying, the waiting for Poncho would have been bearable. This leads me to believe that you had no clue who Poncho was and who should open for him. So at this point, I will rethink going there again. Service here is wonderful. There's a waitress who's name is Alicia (pronounced Ah-lee-see-uh). She's really sweet and totally takes care of people the whole time. She's very professional and yet quirky, cute, and has excellent customer service skills. Very hospitable. I could go on with an entire thesaurus of amazing adjectives for her alone. Honestly though, saint rocke made me fall in love with the South Bay. You guys rock! read more

I created an account just to write a review about the security at this place and when say security i mean the big samoan guy aka bones i have never felt so safe in my life he was so nice he help me with everything no matter how big or small the request without skipping a beat i thought he was a manager for all he did he was great. Hands down, this is THE best concert venue in South Bay! I will always drive down the hill to see a band play here. i want to marry their calamari... it's so good... and part of their happy hour menu... $5... and their spinach/artichoke dip too... yum! and you HAVE to get their kobe skewers... served with brown rice... oh sooo tender, juicy... and plain delicious! they recently changed their prices on the sliders too... it's $2 each... 3 minimum... but trust me... it's still totally worth it - i'm in love with the sauce they put inside. mmm... mmm... good! Last Friday I get to Saint Rocke about 5 minutes to 6pm. A couple of my coworkers and other patrons are standing outside, much to my confusion. I thought the party was inside? Apparently this place doesn't open until 6pm, which is the stupidest thing I've heard of for a bar on a Friday evening when everyone is getting off work early for happy hour! Ok fine. It was almost 6pm. I could let it go. We were literally the first ones who stepped in and I thought "Wow. This place is really nice." It has nice plush couches. It's spacious with lots of televisions and the decor is rather classy. It had great potential, not to mention half off the food until 8pm. Well that all sounded good until you really think about it and realize, THAT'S why the cheap bastards don't open until 6pm, not to mention, THAT'S why their service is non-existent. Being the first ones in we thought we'd get served fast. Initially our group was about 5 people, but as time wore on we grew to about 12-15 people. Still, when we were a party of 5, the waitress asked for our drink order fairly quickly, but took about 20 minutes to deliver our drinks. And we had to ask her numerous times to take our food order. I, alone, had to ask her about 3 times over the course of an hour to take our GODDAMN order! I would have asked more had she been more accessible, but I swear she was just ignoring us and each time I asked her to take our order she said she'll be back. Finally she did take our order and the food finally came out after about 45 minutes. Of course, NONE of the food I ordered came out. At 8pm (2 hours after I first arrived and 1 hour after first placing my order) I decided that I had enough. I went up to the bar to talk to the waitress. I told her that my food still wasn't out and I wanted her to cancel my order and take it off my card. She said she would, but then ran into the busboy who said he just brought my order. Ok fine. So I went back to my seat only to notice that 2 out of my 3 dishes had arrived. Where was my calamari?! Don't mess with me when I'm hungry and my blood sugar is dropping! I was ready to march into the kitchen and get it myself...I was beyond livid! I am very patient, but waiting 2 hours to get food is worse than just bad service. It's just plain inexcusable. Finally the waitress brought my calamari and I scarfed it down in about 15 minutes so I could get the F*CK out of there! Amazingly enough, the bill came very quickly. It was the only thing that happened quickly...go figure! I also noticed that another waitress started taking care of us instead of our original one, who more or less ignored us the whole night. I don't care how busy it is, you should try your best to give great service. Instead, I found out later after I left that my colleague who left before me went to close out his tab for his overpriced $5 draft. He gave her $20 and she gave him $14 back, taking $1 tip for herself and staring him down for it. I have one word..."B*TCH". Her lack of service didn't warrant a tip at all and the fact that she took a tip on her own is rude and shady and the establishment should look at whether she's skimming tips off of other people's orders, especially credit card orders. I'll be first in line to report them, that's for sure! Had I known earlier, I wouldn't have given her any tip. The ridiculously poor service and the crappy attitidue of the waitress negate anything about the food, which is pretty good and the live music, as well as the decor. I would have rather paid full price if I would have gotten good service. In fact, as I type this I realize this doesn't even deserve 2 stars so I'm now giving it 1. Had the service been up to par, I would've given this place 4 stars. I'll skip any other happy hours here and I'll spread the word about the poor service and make sure people check their credit cards and change, especially if they get the short, blonde waitress... read more

This bar is bull man! Up scale people thinking they are slumming it by going to a rock bar.The place was made 2 years ago, out of an establishment that had a long standing with the community, only to be released to a nightclub owner who thought it was a good money venture. This bar would be better in Hollywood, like the Roxy if you want to pay for an audience. If you are a musician please don't be fooled and play here! I try to do my due diligence before I go somewhere. Nowhere on the website or Facebook pages did they mention I would need to pay for parking. Nowhere did they mention that after paying the valet $5 for parking I would be told "You can just park it yourself over there somewhere." This did not help my expectations prior to walking into the club. The staff was very friendly before we even got into the main bar area. Everyone that crossed our path acknowledged us in some way. There was a blond waitress that was particularly helpful. The sound was good and there were a lot of video monitors which was helpful since the set up of the venue did not afford a clear view of the stage. The drink prices are on the high side $7-9 for a domestic beer like Coors or Pabst. I paid less for beer in Vegas and Hollywood. I didn't have the food. I was OK with the drink prices as I know beach rents are extremely high and they have to make the money somewhere. The problem I had was with my waitress. I'm very sympathetic to those in the customer service industry and generally tip 25% or more on the post-tax total. I don't' hold the wait staff responsible for delays in the kitchen or the bar unless I actually see them screwing off, such as when they hide in the corner and flirt with a man in a plaid shirt. I'm not sure why a drink that contained vodka, chambord and pineapple juice had a frothy foam reminiscent of egg white in it. I let it slide because it didn't seem like that big of a deal. My sister hadn't decided what she wanted to drink yet, so she asked the waitress to come back. The waitress stayed away for 30 minutes. It wasn't crowded. When the waitress came back around she took the orders for my sister and her boyfriend, but never brought me a Diet Coke. My sister ordered a vanilla vodka/ Diet Coke; not sure what they brought her, but it wasn't vodka. It took another 10 minutes of waiting for the waitress to take a break from flirting to get her to take the drink back and bring her correct drink order. When the bill came, it was $32.67. I put down $40 cash. "You didn't need change, did you?" Yes, I do need change. My change should have been $7.33. She brought me $6, no coins whatsoever. That REALLY pissed me off. I didn't want to make a fuss since my friends were in the band that was playing that night. For the first time in my life, I left a $5 tip. I don't want to disparage an entire establishment based on the actions of two employees and one visit. If you go, be forewarned and I hope you have a better waitress than I did. read more

I've lived in the southbay for quite a while now but have only gone to Saint Rocke in recent weeks. Keep in mind that my review is based largely on wednesday night experiences there-when they have open mic nights. It's really upscale inside. Pictures of jimi hendrix and other rock stars adorn the wall. I don't know what the food tastes like or what it costs. I never buy food there. I usually just get a coke which they give to me for free. I love this place though because anyone on wednesday night can walk in and play with the band. So if you want to sing a song, you just hand some music to the band and they'll play it. I'd like to see more venues like this in the southbay that invite amateur musicians like myself step up. Visiting this place last night for the Meiko show left a bad taste in my mouth literally but I will come back to that. The artists performing were amazing. Great acoustic performance and the crowd was decent except for the one obnoxious and drunk patron constantly yelling things while the artist was giving back stories to her songs. As soon as I got there I was told it is Listening Room tonight so no talking nor cell phone use. None of which was upheld by security. Phones were constantly taking pictures and like I said, the guy behind me was talking loudly and being rude. Anyways this isn't about how good a show was it is about the establishment itself. The only reason why I am giving it two stars is because our waitress, Demi I believe, was incredibly nice and informative plus the show was really good. If it wasn't for her this place would have gotten one star. When we got there we picked a seat and was instantly greeted by our waitress with menus. The craft beer menu was normal with nothing too out of the ordinary other than this which dropped my jaw to the ground. $9 for a Pabst Tall Boy. Yes people you just read that right. $9 for a Tall Boy. I asked the waitress if that was a typo and she said no, it really is $9. She tried her best to upsale it but you could see the struggle trying justify it in her face. Not sure if management knows but Tall Boys go for about $1.50 in liquor stores and about $2-$3 in 99% of other bars. Not sure why their is a 400% mark up here but it doesn't surprise me honestly judging by the food we received. We started off with the Flatbread dish which was way over priced for what we were served. $11 for a small amount of onions and "Italian sausage" and a good amount of cheese. If you are wondering why the Italian sausage is in quotations its because it was nothing close to Italian sausage. It tasted like someone cut up a quarter of a spicy Slim Jim and spread little chunks around. That is how little their was on there. No where near $11. That dish is $6 to $8 max with actual real Italian sausage. The next dish we ordered was the Crab Cakes for $13. We couldn't even finish them and they were not even that big. They were the size of a 50 cent piece or dollar coin. To make matters worse not only were they extremely small but they were not fresh and had a horrible taste to them. The texture was extremely doughy as if someone bought a tub of Crab Cake mix, froze it, then with a miniature ice cream scoop took some out, and then let it pan fry for a minute on each side. Crab cakes are supposed to be breaded, crispy, fresh tasting, and full of, well, crab. You could taste nothing but bread with no crab and as I mentioned earlier the texture was mushy as if they were frozen and not prepped to order or even prepped earlier that day. As for what that dish should of cost, I would say $0 because it should have never made it on to the menu being made how it was. You live right by the ocean! How do you not get fresh crab from a farmers market or fish market to make fresh crab cakes? The last item we ordered was the dessert item which wasn't on the menu but our waitress told us about it and it did sound good. Seeing as how my gut was confused on what I was just fed it earlier, I did not hear it say no more and if I could have listened to it I would have. The dessert item was a chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and a mountain of whip cream on top. It took two minutes for the item to come out (should have been a huge red flag) and I could see why. The brownie was not warm and not fresh. It tasted like it was sitting out for a while. Chaulky texture and hard to cut through. Ice cream and whip cream were good but honestly, how can you mess those up? That would be like burning cereal. A quick side note as well on your SR Kitchen Pale Ale. Maybe it was a bad batch but it had no aroma nor hardly any taste to it. It has potential from what I could pick up but I would take it back to the drawing board before releasing again. Saint Rocke, you have an awesome venue for intimate acoustic shows or for mid sized rock shows and your craft beer selection is decent/above average compared to other places, and the staff was great If your place was just that, it would be an easy 4 stars. Your menu needs an overhaul for prices and maybe a new head chef if you have one. The music was good but unfortunately your food does not hold up to your name and does not Rocke. read more

They have a $5 happy hour for anything on the menu. That includes margarita's and martini's. We routinely go after golf or after work. In summary, while not everything is top notch, the value during happy hour is absurdly good. The cute servers are always attentive, and there seems to be a endless supply of bus boys and food runners, keeping our table clean and giving us our nick-knacks. The service is always consistently good. We started coming here for Monday Night Football and $1 beers and sliders, but this joint is much classier than that. I'd recommend the Salads, pizzas, sliders and panini's. Tacos and hummus are okay. However, for $5, how can you go wrong? My friend's GF is a vegetarian, and she gets a salad and veggie burger. She calls it the best veggie burger in South Bay. Stay away from the sushi. The sushi is rolled in an amateur fashion and one time the rice was really al-dente. (Possibly from being old.) However, this isn't a sushi joint, doesn't claim to be a sushi joint so they get a pass from me. (see my Sushi Happy Hour reviews for better options) A few times, we got sufficiently drunk so we stayed for some of the music, and on Wednesday nights, they have great music. I think I recognized a nirvana song, done in a Jazzbo kind of way. However, the band was having a good time and was realy talented. They had a bunch of singers come in and out, but it was a cool jam. Next thing you know, we were closing our tab at 11:00 PM. We still only spent $30 a person after drinking and eating our faces off, while being thoroughly entertained. Our server said that there is not a cover charge for the entertainment on Wednesdays, so we purposefully extend some happy hours here. Also, on Friday's they have acoustic performers before the main acts. Some of them are VERY entertaining, and some I feel sorry for as they seem to be flies on the wall. We managed to stay from happy hour into a stones, zeppelin show once. We left after my buddy almost got kicked out for being too drunk.. (He actually was) Being consistent with my other reviews, these are things I'd nit pick if we were paying full price. The pizza dough doesn't have a fresh taste and can be gummy. Still a good $5 pizza though. The sushi.... well..... One time we came in and all we got were side plates are bar napkins to eat with. That was a bummer but hopefully an isolated incident. I'm not sure what's up with the skewers, but they aren't very good. Also, while we get the sliders every time for HH, they aren't as tender and juicy as many other kobe sliders I've had. Still, as stated above, for $5, you can't beat it. For $10, I'd pass. I check the beach reporter for interesting bands that play here, but as long as this happy hour continues, I'll keep coming here. I just went to this place to watch Justin Nozuka. The atmosphere is nice here. Got a great vibe for sitting back and relaxing. But who cares about that, you want the dirt. All the good tables/seats are usually reserved so you might have to sit in the back room which is fine except sometimes you got people standing in front of you blocking your view. If you didn't get a table, you get to stand for the next 4-5 hours. The food is ridiculously overpriced. It was bearable due to appetizer and various drafts being 50% off on Mondays. The food was good though. They have several plasma tv around for you to watch the band playing. Before the band, they'll be playing football game. The worst of this place are the booth seats. If you're short and light, you're fine. If you're heavy and tall, you'll just sink into the seat and your back will get uncomfortable very quick. All and all it's a good place to go watch your band play or Monday night football. I recommend going Mondays for the 50% off and make sure you get a good seat with a good view. PS. DO NOT PARK ACCROSS THE STREET IN THE CVS PARKING LOT. Saint Rocke's website said you can park there after 9pm. YOU CANNOT. A police officer were passing out flyers to the cars parked there saying "This is not a public parking lot. This is your last warning." read more

However, what really soured me was the fact that I wanted to order some food after purchasing 5 beers, flatbread and hummus is all I wanted and the waitress says, "The kitchen just closed, its closes at ten, sorry." Saw DSB on Feb 23. There were SOOOO many people inside this small space it was ridiculous. Not even room enough to sway. It also got extremely hot inside. Every guy & girl around me were wiping their brow. We ended up leaving early because it was flat out uncomfortable. I've seen several shows here, but with bands that are not quite as popular as DSB (which, by the way, I've seen better Journey cover bands. Lead singer was so cheesy and over-the-top). The place did have a nice ambiance and decor.. the vibe was cool and they happy hour was cheap.. once the show started the prices for drinks doubled though.. the place has a poor layout though so only about 40% of the people in there will have a decent view. I've had a decent experience in the past but this is my second time here, got say down about 45min ago and have already been told half their menu isn't available for their reserved seating tables. It's a full house tonight, a Sunday; odds are they ran out of food for the week. However, the manager kindly let us know they were doing a "limited menu for Sunday's." I get it, you are stressed and overwhelmed due to the situation, but don't give me a BS excuse when I have a regular menu in front of me. I would have liked to instead be reassured you were aware of the situation and in the process of fixing it. Not worth the $150 for the table when I can't order anything on the menu. Came here with a friend on Sunday, 9/6/15 to see Eve 6. Arrived early to get a table and were informed there was a $100 minimum for sitting at a table. Considering the price of everything, we figured we would probably spend close to that, so we went for it. Bummer that the tables all pretty much have semi-obstructed views, but they do have TV's that show the stage, so that's nice. I agree with the majority of reviews that food and drinks are way overpriced. $9 for 5 wings. $12 for three sliders. $6 for an effin' Miller High Life. I'll admit that the food we had was quite tasty (except for the sliders - they were not working for me), but not for the prices we paid. Not that it matters. People will pay it regardless. Service was good - our waitress was super nice and helpful. I arrived pretty early, so I was able to park in the parking lot before they even had valet set up. As I was leaving, the valet guy knocked on my window and demanded I pay $5. I thought was pretty lame considering it's not like they had a sign up that said it was $5 to park there. It's not my fault that I got there early - it's their fault that they didn't have anyone there to collect money. So in conclusion, I would come back again, but only to see bands that I'm really, really interested in. Otherwise, it's a lot of money to spend for just a so-so venue. read more

The crowd was rude as hell and that ruined the night for me. Staff was fine at least. Beers were more expensive than I expected for the area too (Budweiser was $6 and it went up from there, shots $9). I have to agree with others that the layout was not great for the amount of people there. Went to see some tribute bands, and some dude in the middle started moshing and knocked my beer all over me. Luckily the bouncer saw it and got me a new beer, and I had the satisfaction of watching the guy's friend get kicked out when they got rough again. Then we went up to the front for Vitalogy (who we had come to see) and some ridiculous girl told us to back up and let her group in because "the front is only for people who are voting on them to be the next big thing." lmao what? You realize they're a Pearl Jam tribute band right? My bf told her no way, so she kept giving us ice stares and saying things like, "I bet you don't even know this song." any reviews saying this place has messed up priorities with abnoxious locals or performers is true! Very good bar service and that's the end of anything positive to say. Didn't have any food, but we experienced every negative comment in the other reviews. What was laughable is they have an 'attendant' in the men's restroom, but the ladies restroom wasn't even properly stocked.- empty dispensers. I went here to see lita ford perform last night. Place is really small . I heard it was supposed to hold less than 300 people but the way they were packed like sardines near the stage i believe they oversold tickets. If there had been an emergency it would have been very difficult to exit safely. Too many extremely intoxicated patrons so the servers obviously dont pay attention to who they serve and how much. One guy was obviously i toxicated left the area near the stage and returned a few minutes later with a drink in each hand. It was bad and i left early. read more

I go here all the time for bands and the only reason I am giving it a one star is because the taco night SUCKS, i mean SUCKS beyond. WORST service ever from the bartender. tacos came out and they couldn't even get the order right, they just slapped them on plates and we didn't know whose order was what, Tortilla was like it was 20 days old. Took 15min to even get chips to us and it was NOT busy. I will of course go back to St. Rocke to see bands but for food, HELLZ NOT! read more

I came here to meet up with some friends, who were supporting one of their friends that was performing that night. Her name is Connie Lim, by the way, and she is super talented. The show was amazing and the acoustics were great in the cozy space. What really surprised me was the food. I wasn't expecting much of the food, since it's a performance venue, but I believe I had the best margherita pizza ever there. I also had the fried calamari, and they were fried to perfection. Best thing was, the food and drinks were all pretty cheap. We even got some chocolate covered strawberries for fun. Beer menu is great, happy hour menu is great, service sucks. I waited for an hour to get my check after my last beer was empty. Not even so much as a "how are you doing" for an hour. I was almost ready to light my napkin on fire and leave a $20 torn in half on the table. When I finally did get my check, there was no pen to sign it with. If this is how the service always is, I would think twice about coming here...even for happy hour. read more

Venue was nice. Enjoyed the food and entertainment last night (Tribal Theory, Anuhea). One complain is this particular rude bartender. Unfortunately i didnt get her name. Short petite blond girl. Was very rude when my friend and I asked for our server Audrey because bartender girl said she cant split our checks and our sever had to do it. So i was fine with that. When i asked bartender if our server was still in the building, this was by the end of the night. She repsonded to me with attitude and rudely said, uhh yah she should be here. I said you are being very rude and i dont appreciate it. She then came back and still being ask, how was I bring rude? So i told her, just the way you responded to me with attitude. I dont know if i will come back to this venue again unless i really like the acts. Not worth the drive to be dealing with rude help. read more

Saint Rocke - Music Venues Near Me - Hermosa Beach, California

I'm going to have to agree with several other reviewers in that this place has changed for the worse in many ways. One of my favorite things used to be the happy hour food selections. Truly amazing and diverse and affordable. Another was the chance to see TALENTED acts on any given night. Well, my friends, neither of those exist here any more. It seems as though a new management has taken hold of the place and doesn't really care about quality or service in a place that used to feel like it was different than most. Gone are the happy hour selections AND the quality musicianship. Replaced by higher prices, less selection, beach punk and tribute band music and horrendous sound. Time to morph again St. Rocke. read more
