Officially my favorite sushi restaurant in Phoenix. This was flavored so perfectly that I had my head in my hands upset that I spent all my life not trying this food. I will be back. My boyfriend mentioned that this is one of the better sushi spots he has had while living in Arizona, and I must agree that it is very quality! Sake Haus gives off a traditional and contemporary aesthetic, and the dimly lit restaurant feels like I am underground somewhere. If you are familiar with Bang Bang in San Diego, then I am thinking of just that. It is also similar that it is a bit on the pricier side, but this was very much worth it. The menu is small, but packed with flavor. It offers a few appetizers, rolls, nigiri and sashimi. There is an omakase, which is essentially five different pieces of nigiri, and I believe at least one of the pieces changes every so often. It was mentioned that it is a chef-styled place as in the chef chooses what to serve on that day. I will say my favorite thing was the wagyu nigiri -- so much that we ordered more. The ryujin, bad & buri, and wagyu fat pork gyoza (we ordered two) were also top tier. Honestly, all of it was delicious, and I got the kin (gold) omakase, and each piece was a pleasant surprise. The sashimi salad was also tasty, but I wish the dressing was more prevalent and more cucumbers (and protein of course). Overall, everything was 10/10 (or 5/5 because it is Yelp). Our waiter was a gentleman with a ponytail (and a smiley piercing) and he was great! He was so attentive and chill. I can't remember his name and I didn't get my receipt to look for it, but shoutout to him, especially because I called him over to pay for the meal before my boyfriend got back from the bathroom. It was cool because he announced it like, "If there's nothing else you need, then you're good to go. The bill has been taken care of, she paid for it" and that was great. Forgot to take a picture of the Ryujin roll, but it was so good, didn't need any soy sauce with it. We also ordered two mocktails of their highballs. The lychee one was much better than the sesame oil one in my opinion. I also ordered the pork gyoza and it was very delicious! It only comes with 3 pieces tho. Waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable and checked on us often. We also got there a bit before happy hour ended so saved some dollars! (Ends at 6). It is more of a traditional sushi spot so if you tend to aim for California Rolls/cooked rolls, there is less variety there, but if you looking for a good selection of raw fish sushi and sake then this is a great spot. A group of us showed up for happy hour without a reservation a they were able to accommodate us (I did do a call ahead just in case). First time checking out this spot while we were in the area. It's a small spot in the front of Pedal Haus, but still has 9 tables and sushi bar seating in the back and a few tables up front and on the patio, so it can accommodate a decent number. It's a chill vibe with dim lantern lighting and Ramones wallpaper lining the side wall. We were seated right away for 730pm on Saturday! Chris our server welcomed us and told us about the concept for the restaurant (that its traditional Japanese-style) as well as the specials of the month (sake and whiskey). He was extremely helpful and friendly, and our food came out pretty quickly. All the staff we encountered were cordial and helpful. Hubby got the seaweed salad and The Ronin, and I got the seaweed salad and The Midori. Hubby also got the whiskey of the month and said it tasted like a scotch, very smooth and not very peety. Hubby was really pleased with the Ronin. The roll appeared to have been hand charred to give it a nice smokey flavor, which was a nice change from some other rolls he'd had. The blend of all vegetables and the tempura gave a great mouth feel and crunch, all accented the delicious eel, and even the jalapeño was subtle. The seaweed salad was a little too wet for my liking and I think I was sensitive to the ginger dressing as my mouth was on fire (I know to ask for dressing on the side next time), but the salad, seaweed, and sunomono was good, and it was a decent size salad. I liked how big the midori sushi roll pieces were and they were packed with filling (which is hard to come by for vegetarian rolls). The crispy shallots were a nice addition adding a little crunch to the roll. It may be a small (pricey) menu, but it's more about the dining experience and enjoying the meal than having a ton of different options. Happy hour was a fantastic deal, which got us in the door. From there we were swept away by the fun cocktail menu, large sake selection, and vibrant decor. Service was present and educated, showing bottles off to bar guests and describing each dish upon delivery. Everything from Sashimi Salad to Seared Eggplant was thoughtfully prepared and bursting with unique flavors. It took me two sips to finish the lychee martini. It was SO sweet and i audibly laughed when it was handed to me in a coupe glass. Cute like restaurant with a quirky vibe. The restaurant is small and dimly lit with some unique decorations. There was definitely a method to the madness. There were like 15 different people working and a different person took our order, brought out our appetizer, refilled our waters, cleared off our plates, brought out the drinks, brought out our main course etc. which was a little confusing but everything came out super fast and was so delicious! So I can't complain! We got there around 6 on a Saturday and had to be at a show by 7 and were out the door at 6:40. We were able to be seated right away but by the time we left it looked like there was a little wait. There is free street parking nearby on 2nd Ave., if you can find a space. Came with a friend on a Friday night! Was in the mood to get sushi in the downtown area before going to a speakeasy. They don't do reservations but have a call ahead waitlist. I called while still at home and was told they had a 7:15 or 7:30pm available. We opted for the 7:30 since parking can be tough. We got there a little before 7:30 but was told a table would be another 15 minutes or so. The sushi bar area was completely open. So, we ended up just taking two of those seats. Wouldn't have been an issue at all if we just came in and took those seats. But to call ahead, told a time, and make it from desert ridge to not be late, it was a little bit annoying. However, everything else went perfectly! Our waitress was attentive. She recommended a great sake. The sushi was fresh and the prices were definitely reasonable! We came here for the first time after dropping an animal off at liberty wildlife. We live outside the valley. We found the place on a google search of what was in the area. We decided to stop in. The environment is dope. They run this place traditional Japanese style. I haven't needed wasabi or soy sauce on sushi since I frequented spots in Washington and cali. What a great find! This place has been on my list for a while and I was gad to finally have the chance to go! I went on a Friday around 6pm. The place was hopping and it was a 30 min wait for a table! They have a happy hour, but we missed it - it is from 4-6pm on weekdays. I ordered a sake flight and several nigiri from the signature nigiri list. Everything was delicious! TLDR: Best Happy Hour in PHX. Half off sake bombs, apps and maki rolls! Vibe: 5/5. Located just north of downtown Phoenix, Sakehaus occupies the lower level of the Pedal Haus brewery. When you step inside, it gives off a modern izakaya vibe that is very inviting. The interior is broken up into 2 sections, the front being where the sushi bar is located and the back being more of a high table dining room. The back has larger communal style tables which is perfect for larger groups. During our visit, we had a party of 6 which easily fit at one of the back room tables. One oddity worth mentioning is that there are no bathrooms located inside Sake Haus. You will need to go outside to Pedal Haus brewing (located behind and above Sake Haus) in order to use the restrooms. Service: 5/5. The wait staff was excellent from start to finish! We arrived at Sake Haus right when they opened at 4pm for their infamous happy hour and the staff was quick to get us seated and the first round of drinks. We ordered several rolls to share and they were all brought out relatively at the same time which was perfect. Overall, nothing to complain about here! Food: 5/5. Sake Haus has a great menu that appeals to both classic sushi lovers and those that are looking for a modern take. As mentioned above, my group of 6 came for their infamous happy hour which includes half off maki rolls, appetizers and sake bombs. This is a fantastic deal and caters perfectly to the after work crowd. We opted to order every maki roll on their menu to share as well as every appetizer and we were blown away by the quality. The roll combinations were nicely thought out and generous in size. The sake bombs are also an amazing deal, as each sake bomb order is a 22oz Sapporo and a whole 10oz sake container! We stopped by Same Haus before a concert. Lucky for us, we stopped right in Happy Hour (which I believe is M-F, 4pm-6pm). They're happy hour is solid as they give you 50% off their most popular rolls and sakes. This allowed us to try most of the rolls. During happy hour, I think they are fine, but do seem to be overpriced as they are pretty small rolls compared to somewhere like Harumi, down the street. Taste wise, I thought the fish tasted fresh but the overall taste was just okay. The waiter explained the menu to us extensively and was very attentive to any needs we may have. As far as the location itself, it's definitely a vibey, photogenic location - a good spot to hang out. So overall, it was good but I still swear by Harumi. read more

Went here on a whim with one of my girlfriends while we were on a girls trip and it was quite honestly one of the best decisions we made. We were greeted by a very warm hostess who told us our wait would be around 30 minutes or so. It was VERY busy at the time, so we didn't mind waiting. When we were called for our table, they gave us the option of either inside or outside and we opted for inside due to the Phoenix heat. Inside was small, but very intimate. I do think it might have been a tad too dark, but the tables had candles and the overall vibe of the restaurant was exactly what we were looking for. The sake menu was enticing, but we decided on some cocktails as they were too interesting not to try! We ordered the lychee margarita and "from phoenix, with love". "From phoenix, with love" was by far the more superior cocktail, but the lychee margarita was also pretty tasty. I did find myself wishing it was a martini instead of a margarita, however. We started our meal off with the wagyu fat pork gyoza. It came with 3 gyoza and they were quite small, but the flavor was out of this world. It seemed like they were tossed in some sort of spicy ponzu sauce? Whatever citrussy sauce it was in, it was divine. We also each ordered a seared yellowtail nigiri and let me tell you, that aguachile on top? GAME CHANGER!!! We probably could have eaten like 6 more of those each. For main entrees, we ordered the bad & buri along with the ryujin. Both were impeccable. We found ourselves speechless after we took our first bites. The server explained that every roll was already "dressed", so we didn't need to dip our roll in any soy sauce or mayo to bring out some flavors. And boyyyyyyy were they right. No soy sauce or sriracha necessary. We could not get over how delicious these rolls were. Incredibly fresh and unique taste!!!!!! Decided to head to first Friday down Roosevelt row and got quite hungry from just strolling around and passed by Sake Haus and we were intrigued. There wasn't a long line but when we did get seated, we saw it get busier. It's a smaller venue and almost feels very speakeasy-ish because of the ambiance indoors. It's very IG worthy and I really enjoyed the lighting being a lot darker which makes people feel more relaxed and social. I do have to say that it is pretty pricey but it is worth a try if you're down in this area looking for sushi and sake with great IG moments! read more

Sake Haus is one of our favorite Japanese bars and kitchens in town. We love that the vibe here resembles local bars in Japan. We went there for a few date nights and also celebrated my birthday with friends one time. We loved sitting by the bar and watching the bartenders professionally handle each drink. The sushi was very fresh and tasty. It could be a bit pricy compared to some other sushi places, but you are paying not only for the quality of the food but also for the location and service. This place is located in the Row Row district in downtown Phoenix, which is a great place to do bar hopping. It is right next to the Pedal Haus Phoenix location, and in fact, they even share a bathroom facility. This place often collaborates with some events offered in the area; for example, the first that we found out about this place was through an expresso martini bar hopping event offered by the Klavi coffee place nearby. I hope to come back to this place soon, and perhaps through another fun event! read more

My wife and I stumbled in to this place as we were seeking a place to get a drink during a wild First Friday street fair on our first trip to Phoenix. We immediately fell in love with the vibe of Sale Haus. The place is very cool. The staff was fantastic and attentive on a packed Friday night. We ordered three rolls to split between us and a couple drinks. Looking around we noticed, no wasabi, no soy sauce, and no ginger on anyone's table. The rolls came out and they are not like any sushi we have ever experienced. All three rolls were fantastically unique and had well balanced, complex flavors. The use of ingredients like garlic and cilantro brought an amazing and unexpected flavor to familiar dishes we've had many times in the past. There was absolutely no need for more wasabi, soy or ginger. In fact I'm so thankful that none was provided as it would be a travesty to try to alter what the chef had provided. Now here's our dilemma, I can't imagine going back to the tried and true, really good, sushi places that we regularly enjoy knowing now just how mind blowingly amazing it can actually be. We aren't locals so I'm not sure what we are going to do from this point on.. Regular trips to Phoenix will just be necessary in order to get our sushi fix from now on, I suppose. read more
