Our waitress said "This is not your average sushi place..." She was right! Sake Haus is way better! I wish I would have gotten her name, she was so amazing. She actually ended up taking care of us when one of the other servers got a little overwhelmed. We had never been here before so she let us know how Sake Haus worked and that they don't provide things like Soy Sauce, Wasabi, or Ginger. She said we shouldn't need it because their sushi has so much flavor, and I am a slop as much Soy Sauce and Wasabi on my sushi as possible kind of gal and she was right, I didn't miss it at all. We sat up at the sushi bar and we were able to watch first hand how all the magic is made. One of the sushi chef's even provided us with some complimentary sushi, so amazing. My husband had their Toshi Old Fashioned and he fell in love with it. I was lucky he took me home and not the drink. I had a glass of Sauvignon blanc. We started with one of their daily specials, The Crudo, it was so fresh and the perfect starter with yellow tail, sliced avocado, sliced and charred grape fruit, and a crispy onion topping. Then we decided on the 808 roll and let our waitress pick our second roll for us. Every thing was amazing. So fresh and full of flavor. The place itself was a little dark but cozy and classy. I love that Otoro and Chutoro are a staple on the menu and not just a special. I had the Otoro Nigiri, Chutoro Nigiri, and Wagyu Nigiri. My friend had the Kin Omakase (Gold), which had Otoro Nigiri, Salmon Nigiri, Whitefish Nigiri, Albacore Tuna Nigiri, and S2 Nigiri. We also ordered the Orange Blossom which had Salmon Sashimi, ponzu, mandarin orange, and avo sauce. We both loved the Orange Blossom! I loved the Otoro Nigiri, and my friend loved the S2 Nigiri. For drinks we had the, She-so High, G Joy, and the Demon Slayer. The Demon Slayer (Wakatake) sake was our favorite! That's some full-bodied goodness. Only thing is the Happy Hour is not as good as Kaizen PHX which we're regulars at (50% off the entire menu!). The Happy Hour at Sake Haus is $2 off drinks, $1 off Nigiri, and $5 off Omakase Nigiri. Stopped by for their Sake Class- amazing! The staff was so knowledgeable and the sake/food pairings were fabulous. The nigiri and sashimi were fresh and full of flavor. We'd definitely return for another class. Back room bar is dark with a cool vibe. The Hai Standard was a bit sweet for me, so I'd prob stick to amazing sake list next time. Seaweed salad was fine. WOW!!! Just WOW! I am truly impressed with the quality of sushi at Sake Haus. The Chefs are truly masters of their crafts & the level of attention on the sushi is authentic which made me feel like I was eating sushi in Japan. Yes I said it....their sushi made me feel like I was in Japan eating! I have always wanted to come to a place that serves sushi like in Japan. This place does not have the "westernized" sushi like California roll or Las Vegas roll, because they truly brings the art of sushi making. The flavors are on point!!!! Literally eat the sushi as is and enjoy the freshness without adding soy sauce or wasabi. If you really want to experience the essence, please have the server pick the sushi for you. I was not at all disappointed & I even had the daily special. The sashimi are portioned well. I asked the Head Chef to create me something not on the menu & boy did he deliver!!!!!!! Every sushi brought to the table was explained by the server which was great because not everyone in my group knows the fish & cut. Some might say the price is a little high but I think the price is just perfect for the authentic taste of the sushi. One of each. The menu at Sake Haus is fantastic. How does one choose what to order? They bring 5 friends and order one of each. Each dish that was brought out appeared better than the last. Aesthetics matched the high quality sushi. I'll make a bold statement and say Sake Haus has the best sushi in PHX. I can't put my finger on which dish was my favorite, as they were all incredibly tasty, but my group was perseverating and going batshit crazy over the yellow tail. Portions are tiny, but each makes a loud statements and kept me guessing what I just took a bite of. Overall a fun, creative experience. Highly recommend. read more

Typically, when I go to a sushi place, I get wasabi and soy sauce and make that little mixture. But this time all the roles and the were so delicious. I didn't need any of that and I really got the taste this chef and the menus profile of the fish. the highball tasted like they do in Japan a little bit of soda, a powerful amount of whiskey. Everything came out fresh and in sequence, so I got time to eat the profile of what I chose and move on to the next meal. The bartender was on hand and even gave me some recommendations the orange light set a mild ambiance but I would prefer to see the food and it's natural color overall, it was a good night for Monday. He also took the time to stop moving and really have a conversation with us about the drinks we may like and explained why we would like them. We came here after visiting another location therefore we didn't get to experience a lot of the drinks, but we are returning for the Sake tasting they will be hosting so I'm sure we will redeem ourselves! I've been here twice now and have had pretty good experiences both times. Their happy hour menu is pretty sweet with half off maki rolls. We tried 3 different rolls and I would order them all again. Great price on happy hour, but I wouldn't pay full price for them because they are very pricy if not on HH. I would come back primarily on HH for their maki rolls. read more

I have been to Sake Haus twice and each visit leaves me wanting more. If you are a fan of sushi and sake this will be your new favorite spot. They don't serve soy sauce and wasabi with any of their sushi (trust me it is not needed) but you can ask for it. My favorite rolls have to be the Bad & Buri & the Ryuin. My daughter loved the Hana. The staff is really hospitable and have a great knowledge of the food and drinks. The only downfall is the restroom is next door, but it's only a hop and a skip away. If you want high quality sushi, this is where it's at. Coming from Houston, I'm pretty picky. I've tried a number of sushi restaurants in the Phoenix/Tempe area but this is by far my favorite. My bf and I came by on first Friday. The streets were packed but we didn't wait too long. It was about 30 min until we were seated. They have a small menu so we ordered some nigiri and drinks. DRINKS - Lychee Margarita: Light and refreshing. It was good but I wasn't crazy about it. - Plum Sour: It's quite sweet at first but had a very strong whisky aftertaste. Wasn't a fan, I wish it was more smooth. SUSHI - Nigiri Omakase (Gold): It came with otoro, chu toro, seared yellowtail, kelp cured whitefish, and kampachi. Everything was SO fresh and tasted amazing. I enjoyed the white fishes more than the toros, surprisingly. - Wagyu Nigiri: So rich and buttery. So good. - Seared Scallop: WOW. This was incredible. Definitely one of the best scallops I ever had. 10/10 - Orange Blossom: Salmon in ponzu with smoked mandarin oranges. It was ridiculously fresh and I enjoyed every single bite. I am obsessed. Love this place! Imagine high end sushi in a Japanese dive bar and that's Sake Haus. The food is so fresh and delicious. I love sushi here. It is high end, but reasonably priced. The bar is the best place to sit in my opinion. They have great bar tenders. Great cocktails from classic martini to Japanese sangria. Service is sometimes behind, but mind you this is a small space that gets packed. They are working with what they have at the moment. I'd really like to see this place possibly expand. read more

I've been wanting to come to Sake Haus for the longest time especially since I live down the street from it. It was First Friday so the area was completely packed so I was pleasantly surprised that we were able to get a seat within 15 minutes of putting my name down. We did have my daughter who is still in a stroller with me so our only option was to sit outside in the patio - not ideal given it was so loud and distracting and the place inside doesn't accommodate to children and strollers just FYI. My husband and I ordered: * Uni (it was the special for the night) * Crudo (also a special) * Omakase Everything we ordered was phenomenal and the sushi was perfect. The rolls for the omakase were on the smaller side, however, but for the price of $25 it makes sense. I definitely want to come back, maybe sans children so we can actually sit inside. Just a small irk though --- I asked the waitress where they got their fish and I don't think she knew where and said "where everyone else gets their fish." Sushi/poke places in the valley get their fish and seafood from various places so I was surprised she just resorted to that response. It would've been nice to know but in any case, we enjoyed the food and will want to return! read more

I would like to consider myself somewhat of a sushi connoisseur given that I reside in San Francisco and have eaten at both authentic and highly regarded sushi restaurants around the world. Given my past experience with sushi here in Arizona though, my bar was set quite low; especially since I personally didn't believe a landlocked state like Arizona could get and prep fresh seafood. I was pleasantly blown away by this place and would even go as far as to say this place is comparable to Nobu in Scottsdale - for 1/4th of the price. We ordered: * Seared Sea Scallop nigiri - 8/10: slightly seared with a perfect seafood-y sweet taste, incredible * Orange Blossom - 10/10: easily the best thing on their menu, the salmon was so fatty and the sauce was a perfect balance between sour and savory * PYT - 8/10: not as good as the orange blossom, but still a solid pick if you like yellowtail * Kin (Gold) Omakase - 9/10: highly recommended just for the o-toro and chutoro, my favorite parts of tuna * The Shogun: - 7/10: the salmon pieces were nice and fat, but I'm not sure if I got an extra spicy jalapeno, but it kind of overpowers the other flavors One thing I have to mention is that it costs extra to have wasabi and you have to ask for soy sauce/ginger. I find that really strange since we ordered the omakase and to me, it's normal at the very least to give these condiments (I understand for the other items). The music was also blasting so it was difficult at times to speak and hear. The interior of this place is well-designed, giving a very adorable izakaya feel to the restaurant. I'm glad the menu wasn't too overwhelming either, they really handpicked which items were the best instead of giving the customer too many options. You'll never have a worse dining experience - I ordered an order of Gyoza and Flounder nigiri and not only did they not come together as I asked, the Gyoza was soaked in some whack ass ponzu and by the time the nigiri came out (the place was completely dead except for a few customers) I asked to send it back and I was STILL CHARGED for the nigiri. The place was dead, there were like 3-4 sushi chefs on yet it took forever for our loser server to check up on us - we were prisoners because we didn't want to walk out on the bill! We also ordered two cocktails, which were also both completely trash - my date looked at me like I was a crazy person, despite having people in the industry recommend this place! Get your fucking ducks in order, because if I ever see that lame ass server again, I'll make sure he won't be able to work anywhere but a waffle house. read more

The menu doesn't have a lot of the traditional options/rolls you might see at most sushi places, which could be a downside depending what you're in the mood for, but we were not disappointed by our order. I liked the nigiri variety of fish/sauce flavors and really couldn't determine a favorite as they were each unique and all good for different reasons. came here on Valentine's Day on a whim cuz the place we originally planned on was full. upon calling the restaurant, the hostess kindly let us know that there was space in 40 min & to come back then. we got there a bit early & she had a spot open up so we sat down immediately. we sat at the bar so the bartender served us. she then told us that there was a limited menu on that day (prix fixe set, & a few appetizers only). & THEN said there was nothing left except the prix fixe set but they can do the 5 piece nigiri set as a la carte. we were a bit taken aback! it was only about 7pm at this point so it wasn't even late in the night or anything. the hostess should've let us know when we called. i personally do not want to dine somewhere where there is 1 thing on the menu. we actually saw a couple tables get up & leave after hearing this. which is what we should've done. at least the nigiri pieces were good! service was exceptionally slow for a not too busy night. probably won't return just cuz of a bad first impression but the food was pretty good for phx. read more

Love the vibe and decoration! I was sitting at the bar and the bartender was really nice and attentive. It's a small place so just keep that in mind. I tried the Poke Inarizushi. It was my first time getting something with sweet tofu, and a bit too sweet for my liking, but still really good! If you like that added sweetness, highly recommend! I also got the Ryujin, which is their spicy tuna roll, and The Shogun, their salmon roll. Both were very delicious! With how great the quality was I definitely will be trying nigiri next time, but was super full from those 3 lol. Another lychee cocktail was amazing!! I ended up getting two of them. I did get another cocktail but sadly don't remember the other one. I just remember that both were great but the lychee was the star of the show for me.
