Maybe it was an off day for this place, maybe it wasn't. Before they renovated, I didn't think the best of it but at the least the staff was helpful and the food was ok. Today, I can't even say that. Bottom line, the food was cold, sushi wasn't rolled properly, and the staff could not have cared less. Soup should be hot. Chicken entree should be hot. Not to mention, the wrong entree was brought out. We all know Sushi should stay rolled when picked up; this completely fell apart. When brought to the attention of the server, it was all shrugged off and we were told "oh, it happens." Well, when we pay good money to go out, we expect good food and good service. Great ramen! Lovely customer service. If you're lucky the waiter will speak to you in French as he served you wine...weird but adorable. Hubby had the poke bowl and I had the ramen. Food is good but some of the young servers do not know how to take orders so my order always comes out wrong. I alway order the Baked Salmon Roll deep fried in tempura and I've been served the Philly Tempura roll (not what I ordered) the Salmon Tempura roll (not what I ordered) and even a California Tempura Roll (not what I ordered)! Have been a few times now. They hire young people for the front, but an owner looking lady always seen to come out to sweep up any gaps in service if they get a rush. The bunch they have now are nice. I will always return for the food. Great ramen options, miso with beef for me. The sushi is fresh and you can tell they know what they are doing. We are lucky to have this spot in this accessible/central location. Great with movie in same mall, or stopping on cross town trip. No sushi bar seating, but you can seat right next to the glass case with a beer and it works out just as well :). read more

I was totally satisfied with my experience here. I went with the Sashimi Combination Special and was pleased. They included clam and butterfish on the special, which was a nice surprise. Unfortunately, the butterfish was absent of it's normal big flavor. On the flip side, the tuna, which is something I usually expect to be bland, had a surprising amount of flavor and nice texture. Service was good, although the four of us did have to wait a bit until we all had something in front of us. Free miso and edamame is always nice. I'll go back. read more

Great place for bento boxes and ramen. Its in the mall but serves high quality food! I usually get the chicken ramen and the serving is huge. They use dark meat chicken which I love since it doesn't dry out like white meat. My friend loves getting the bento box for lunch and the shrimp and veggie tempura is a perfect appetizer for 2 or 3 people. read more

This place is fantastic, the servers are all very kind and friendly and on multiple occasions I've seen them go out of their way to help someone get exactly what they want or crave, so kudos to them. Honestly every time I go in there I get the same feeling of friendliness and warmth that I've come to expect and it helps prepare me for my next class, which is the only reason I'm there most days :p. That being said I've driven all the way from my home in lompoc just to get a bowl of ramen so hopefully that says something about this lovely little place. read more

Customer service from Anthony was bad, rude, and couldn't take time explain difference difference between bowl or plate. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant and the food was pretty good. The reason I'm giving this place a low rating is due to the poor service. It seemed like the restaurant was discombobulated. It took a while for the server to get our orders. The food arrived at unreasonably inconsistent times and our sushi wasn't served with soy sauce dishes with wasabi and ginger. The Korean food didn't include side dishes which was very disappointing. The food itself was pretty good though! It took forever to get our cards back because their machine stopped working. The servers had pretty poor communication with the customers in general. We Just Recently Moved to Santa Maria and we were craving Sushi So We gave Sake a try! WORST experience ever. It all started When we walked passed it and the closed sign was up so my dad ask the waitress if they were open and she says "duh we are obviously open theres people in here" so then we sit down and she comes and takes our order then eventually our food comes after waiting for 70 mins . my dads teriyaki bowl was cold by the time he received it and she slammed it on the table . We tried to get her attention several times to get refills . & to top it off the place wasnt even busy . this was the most terrible experience we have ever had and we will definitely never be going back . read more

I know it is in a shopping mall but Sake Sushi is a best kept secret for affordable high quality Japanese Food. We've been going as a family to Sake Sushi for years and know the owners well. They always remember us and we love to sit at the sushi bar and chat with them as we download tons of California Rolls and sushi. The food is very high in quality and at the best prices in town. We used to come here before we moved out of town and the food was excellent. Ten years past, we're in town and wanted to check out the place we used to love. I feel sad that the food quality went down. The ramen we ordered was literally the instant ramen I get from Asian grocery store, they just put a poached egg in it. The beef bento was also a disappointment and the meat tasted old, the rice portion is so small, the drinking water tastes like tap water. I went to Sake Sushi around lunch time on a weekday with 2 younger children. Its inside of the mall in Santa Maria, and you can park in the parking garage with street access directly into the restuarant. The staff is friendly. The restuarant is small: I wouldn't bring my entire family of 7 here at once. The music was techno, and a bit too loud. I couldn't hear what the waiter was saying half the time. The food was great though. The maki rolls were rolled small and perfect. The bento boxes hold A LOT of food, so be careful. The bento box I had carried one maki roll, salad with ginger dressing, rice, a salmon fillet with sauce, and tempura veggies with one shrimp. A miso soup was also included. It totalled to about $12. I took over half home, but great quality and portion for the price. A great little lunch place. Seems they would do great outside of the mall though. read more

My boyfriend and I had debated on coming here for the longest time because it looked cheap and we had never seen it busy. We finally decided to come here for lunch during our mall trip. Nothing about this place impressed me. The decor is cheap and ugly, and the food is mediocre at best. For some reason there's a huge cash register (that they don't use) sitting on the back of one of the booths. If they seat you there, you have to lean forward so you don't knock your head on the hunk of metal. Apparently there's no better place for it? There are big rips in the booth seats. To the food: I ordered a vegetable roll and my guy ordered the spicy tuna roll with 2 pieces of albacore and 2 pieces of salmon. We ended up waiting for our food for about 20 minutes. During that time, our waitress thoughtfully brought us some miso soup. Honestly, it was the worst miso soup I've ever had. It was so salty and "mixy" and the tofu pieces were teeny tiny! My boyfriend just couldn't finish his and this guy will eat ANYTHING. My plate arrived first. How it took 20 minutes to make a vegetable roll I have no clue. The place wasn't very busy. Anyway, I was not impressed by my dish. It was the sloppiest roll I had ever seen, and it tasted like grass. When my guy's dish came out, the rolls were falling apart and he had lots of trouble picking it up with his chopsticks. The rolls were just plain messy and goopy and did not look appetizing. Sushi rolls are an art! The fish pieces were just okay. Not sure why they don't include the wasabi glob underneath, but that was a disappointment. We felt the need to smell the fish first to make sure it was fresh before eating it. The staff was nice, they seemed happy and friendly. All in all I'm not sure if we'd give this place a second chance. Perhaps we were just there on an off day. :o\ If you want genuinely great sushi, go for Ichiban or Hama Sato. read more
