I stumbled upon Tokyo Sushi when I hit up Yelp one day to find me a joint near my house to tackle one of my random intense sushi cravings. Food: Let me start by saying that theres lumpia on the menu. YASSSS BOO. Lumpia. For those of you that have yet to dive into the life-changing experience called a lumpia, I guess it could best be described as a "filipino eggroll." If you show up to ANY party or gathering with a pan of lumpia in hand...you are immediately crowned a culinary God, and swarmed by a mob of eager fans. The lumpia here is...shockingly pretty delish! Nice crispy texture on the outside, with a good amount of tasty meaty filling, and a heavenly dipping sauce. The meat could have used just a tad more seasoning, but overall it was a hit. My sweet potato roll was perfectly prepared, with just the right amount of sweetness and crunch in every delectable bite. Chicken tempura roll also did not disappoint and paired so well with the scrumptious shrimp sauce. I'll be coming here at least once a week to pay homage to my love for great sushi. The service is always on point, drinks refilled regularly and never a long wait for the food to hit the table. I accidentally stumbled upon Tokyo Sushi & Grill but I'm glad I did. When you first walk in it's a little crowded to be seated if there are people waiting as well....The entrance isn't a big space at all, I had to step outside and wait till someone came outside to leave. (Didn't take more than 2 mins) You can tell this place is full of regulars and returning customers especially because I had to ask a few questions instead of being told. Which isn't a bad thing! The food was absolutely delicious and the service was beyond amazing. The waitress and host went over and beyond to make sure everyone in there was happy. My drink never made it more than half way down before I was offered more. & I almost had to roll out of there because I couldn't stop eating. Truly you can't beat the prices either! Was very surprised with how authentic and delicious this sushi was. I have lived in Tokyo for a year and this is the closest I've found anywhere in the Jacksonville area. Normally good service and good food. However today I ordered take out. Ask for my cold rolls to not be packed with hot food. Upon my arrival the cold rolls were in middle of hot things top and bottom. So I asked them to remake them. Then he goes and sits them down for a few min and repackage them as they not still warm but lied saying he re made them. Which we both knew was a lie. We exchanged a few words as I told him those are the same ones he now trying to say they are not hot as he tried to cool them off some how. He finally left them sitting on counter going to get fresh ones. I don't know why they want to ruin a repeated customer but it was enough to sit them out for a while. I had stopped by to try their food for the first time on Christmas Eve with a friend. For starters, the server was very unenthusiastic and clearly didn't want to be there. I get it, it's Christmas Eve, and nobody wants to work; but if you're scheduled, you're scheduled. It's not the customer's fault, and doesn't mean you can put less effort into your job (especially customer service!) She rushed us to order and her tone of voice was very bored. But that wasn't the main problem -- what happened next was. Halfway through eating my food, I find a hair. Covered in soy sauce, mixed in with my vegetables. Disgusting. I really wish I would have taken a picture, but at the time I was repulsed and just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. Huge biological food hazard. I've been frequenting this place for years now. Their food is really tasty and in my opinion I think that their shrimp sauce is the best one out there. Love the sushi and the specials that they have. I came into grab some sushi to go. It was 5:45 PM yet the place was more than halfway full. There were several staff waiting by the door as I came in and they were all quite friendly. I said at the sushi bar to place my order and while I waited I enjoyed a clear broth soup. It was excellent. Everything was clean and pleasant inside. I ordered mostly vegetarian sushi and rolls and it came out nicely. We also got the vegetable tempura and that was Crispy and lightly battered. The shrimp sauce is probably the best shrimp sauce I have ever had. I had only been here one time previously with a large group of people and we were accommodated that time very nicely as well. Amazing. The flavours come together to make such a brilliant coalition. Im a 2 year vegan and this is by far the best sushi I've ever had EVER. Its so good I wrote a song about it on the way home from the restaurant, even called my friends and told them how they need to go here and try it. I get the avocado roll add sweet potato. Recently had a trip to Jacksonville beach. A nice vacation. During the trip, I tried several sushi bars and Japanese restaurants including Sawa Sushi, Kazu, Oishii, and Tokyo. Although among all theses restaurants, Tokyo is the smallest one, its rolls are impressive. The Jimmy Smith roll and Dancing Krab roll are my recommendation. However, its sashimi is not as fresh as other restaurants. Given that its price is much lower, it is acceptable. read more

I was literally just sitting in here. I was looking at the menu the waitress put the water down behind my menu so when I put the menu down The water spilled. Three waitresses walked by and ignored the fact that we were trying to clean the water up. One waitress had a cloth to clean the table in front of us. She left the cloth on the table and walked off so I got the cloth and started cleaning the table. Again the waitress continued to walk by like I worked there and it was my job. Finally I put everything down and walked out, all of a sudden I had their attention but I was outraged at this point. I have treated my sister to this place at least once every two weeks for a year. I eat here almost 2-3 times a week on my lunch break. Out of over 20+ sushi joints I have gone to in 20 years of living in Jacksonville, this is the best. The sushi rice is fresh and absolutely delicious and the prices are cheaper than almost every place I have been to. Staff is great and know my order by heart. Extreme mixed thoughts about this place. This has always been a regular for us, the food is great... BUT... Tonight's experience was terrible. Walked in at 10:25 and we already know they close at 11pm. Just wanted to order and quickly eat. Suddenly 5 employees surround the table and we are advised "we close in 30 minutes", so we say is it okay to order? She replied with "well we close in 30-min"... Okay so what are you saying?
