This restaurant's name is misleading - it is NOT a japanese restaurant! It's a Chinese restaurant with the best homemade cheung fun (steamed rice noodle rolls). My favorite is the shrimp one, but they have the beef and fish one too. The rice noodle rolls are so thin and perfectly sauced with the soy sauce, one plate is more than enough for one person's full meal! We also ordered the porridge (it was ok) and a few other appetizers (the fried tofu wrapped in rice noodle, and the fried veggie one not sure what it was called). They're worth trying! They also have homemade herbal teas (idk all the English names for them) but definitely ask about them! We got the sugarcane one and although it was on the sweeter side, it was refreshing to drink with our meal. The restaurant itself is quite tiny, with only a few small tables. The one waitress was very considerate with our party. Since we had a small baby, she offered to give us extra bowls in order to feed her more easily.

This is a little gem. They have variety of Chinese casual food here. My friend introduced me to this place and it was my first time here. We ordered their freshly made rice noodles. It was pretty tasty and authentic Cantonese style! I actually just came back from Guangzhou China, and this place deserves a passing grade compared to the ones I had in China. I ordered one to go for my family to try and she also loved it! But if you take it to go, it's better to reheat it by steaming it or else it would be too dry. The other food didn't stood out to me as much but I would come back for this rice noodles.

Totally awesome in its current incarnation as an Enping style (think Taishan adjacent) restaurant. Local dim sum we've never seen before, like mugwort and glutenous sweet potato filled with savory green peas.

Braised Beef Flank 招牌牛腩 I like the taste！ I could taste Chu Hou Sauce/Paste. It was delicious. The Beef Flank was soft and tender. The size of Beef Flank was good. The portion was good as well. It was value for money. The female staff was friendly and attentive.

This place is pretty small and strangely placed on the corner. It has 3 tables inside for dining in. I ordered the Everything Combo, it comes with chicken, beef, shrimp, and a large side of fried rice plus a soda! For people like myself who have "healthy" appetites, this place is king! The meal was packed with flavor. The meats and veggies were very moist with some kinda sauce, maybe teriyaki. It does have a bit of a wait for the food, around 20 minutes to make it fresh. Overall, it was a really great experience. When I return to this place, I'm gonna try the noodles instead of fried rice.

Ordered the chicken and steak combination. Right now if you order a combo, it comes with free lemonade, additional charge of $2 if you want to try the other flavored lemonades. Tried the watermelon one and it was actually pretty good! The portion size is fairly big, you get a whole box each, but keep in mind the fried rice tastes plain like chinese fast food and that there is quite a load of veggies underneath the chicken and steak. The chicken tasted a bit dry and overcooked despite the sauce over it. I did however enjoy the watermelon lemonade and the salad dressing. I think for the portion size, the price was fair considering the price increase of everything in the economy lately. The service was also quite friendly. Parking can be small and limited, but nearby street parking should be fine.

The food is tasty and made pretty much in front of you; the kitchen is very visible from the cashier. The location of the restaurant isn't the best because it's on the corner of a big street and if you're trying to turn left into the lot, there's a bunch of cars blocking your way. The parking lot only has about 6 spots and its pretty crammed. I think it's a residential home where they converted the front into a restaurant. When we got to the restaurant, there was one other person in front of us but the cash register was not working so it took a while to fix that. When we were able to put in our order, we were told it would take about 20 minutes for our two orders. We headed to the car to wait because it was getting cold and covid restrictions prevented us from staying inside. After 20-25 minutes, we went to pick up our food but, only the person in front was able to pick up so we heading back to the car. It kind of took forever to get our meals. It is a small mom and pop so we decided to give it another shot but this time, it took even longer.

COVID-19 Review Edition Heard about this new place through the SGV eats group and saw that they sell hibachi style food in El Monte for an unbeatable price! Naturally I had to come try this out and wanted to see if I can really feed my family of 4 under $30 and yes it was true! I called in my order ahead of time to skip any wait and ordered 2 of the Combo 3 which is probably their most popular item on the menu. It comes with shrimp, chicken, and beef (you can also choose how you want your beef: medium rare, medium, well done) and a generous amount of fried rice (or chow mein for extra $ I believe), 2 small egg rolls, salad, and milk tea! They normally package the rice under the proteins but now they package it completely separate in another styrofoam box. All of that for $30...the value really can't be beat! As for the food in general, the sauce from my beef leaked out of my bag so it was a pretty saucy dish. The flavor of the protein was pretty good but one thing that I didn't really like was there was way too much chicken over the other proteins. I was hoping for more shrimp or beef but there was chicken overload. Nevertheless, I do like chicken so it was still yummy and flavorful. The egg rolls were meh, they were soggy by the time I got home. As for the milk tea, I've read reviews that it's suppose to be boba milk tea but I didn't receive any boba so mine was just a milk tea. I don't know if it's because there was no boba at the time? Well free is free...so I can't complain! Would I come back again? Yes! I think if you're looking for a cheap meal to feed your family for multiple meals, I would suggest coming here. Great value for good food!

Benihana and Tokyo Wako who? Do not sleep on this place! The portions are huge!The combos cost around $11.99 and you get salad, fried rice, grilled veggies and choice of egg rolls or kani cheese fried wontons. The steak is very flavorful, soft and not chewy. They also ask how you want it cooked. My bf enjoyed the chicken because it wasn't dry. What I also like is they use big shrimps, so no puny shrimps here. There's a special going on for a couple of months (they don't have an exact end date yet) buy a combo get a milk tea for free. Not sure if there is a limit but I ordered two combos and got 2 milk teas for free. Please come and support this local business!

El Monte's newest best-kept secret (for now) is a place called Sakura Grill, a no-frills takeout spot that's seriously going to make me fat. Do you like hibachi-style food? Do you want to feed a family of four for under $25? If you said yes to either of those things, then this is the place for you. The first time I came here, I thought I had picked up the wrong order because the bag felt too heavy for a single meal. Turns out, they're just really generous with the portions. For $14, you can get the #3 combo which is basically a styrofoam box stuffed with chicken, steak (cooked to your preferred temperature), shrimp, veggies, and a mound of fried rice. The fried rice is JUST like the kind you'd find at Benihana or Tokyo Wako: buttery, garlicky, and chock full of flavor. The only thing missing is the teppan chef. Oh, and did I mention the combos also come with your choice of fried egg rolls or cream cheese wontons, salad, a plethora of sauces, and a free boba milk tea? The different combos are just different permutations of chicken, steak, shrimp, veggies, and sides at varying prices. I personally go for the #4 combo which is just steak and shrimp without any chicken for $12. I've also gotten the "Super Chicken Katsu" (which sounds like a dish you'd find at Super Nintendo World), but unfortunately I've had bigger and better chicken katsu elsewhere. Just stick with the hibachi combos! In conclusion, Sakura Grill is a great spot for some quality cheap eats. Call ahead to place your order because they can get backed up during the lunch rush on weekdays.

Wow ... very delicious and generous portion! I ordered Combination #2, it was Chicken with Shrimp, it come with a small box of green salad, a small bowl of miso soup, a separate box of fired rice, a piece of spring roll, and a cup of iced lemonade. Was pleasantly surprised with this location. Stopped by with my dad yesterday looking for a place to eat and was blessed with this hidden gem. Came in around 4 or 5 and was greeted with a smile. The service was great, the woman that helped us was so helpful and you can tell she cares about the customers feedback. The ambiance of the location is very small, but taken care of. Tables were clean, so we sat down and had a meal together there. Now to the best part! The food was absolutely amazing! When we were given two plates each I was shocked. Only to open it and be greeted with the most delicious rice, steak, shrimp and chicken! Truthfully I wish I lived closer because I was be a regular here. Love their steak, chicken, and shrimp combo. Plate comes with fried rice and zucchini stir fry with onions. The meals also include a side salad, spring roll, and ice coffee. Ordered via door dash. I decided to give this place a second chance but it's just not going to cut it for me. Got the steak, chicken and shrimp combo and got more rice than anything. The shrimp was ok but only got 3 pieces of it. The steak is just way too chewy yet it tastes ok. The chicken was probably the best tasting but overall I'd give it 2 stars. I see previous 4,5 star reviews but not for me to be honest. I didn't even get a side of the spicy mayo. At least that would've made it taste a little better. read more

This place used to be my favorite favorite place of all time. After the ownership changed, food became more salty. I ordered hibachi combo and only item I received was shrimp and beef noodle. I wouldn't say it is a combo if it doesn't come with other items. Before, hibachi combo had fried rice, salad, and egg roll. Now it's nothing different than mongolian bbq fast food. Just more expensive. Never again. read more

Bomb and delicious tasting food! steak was very tender and the shrimp was huge! portions are huge - my new fav spot for hibachi. Forget the overpriced hibachi trucks and fancy restaurants, this is the place. Server was also very nice and courteous. Only downside is the parking lot is tiny, and maybe more dine in tables but other than that Sakura Grill is the spot! read more

First of all the owners are very nice people. That's always a plus when eating at a local mom and pops shop. Sakura gives huge portions for the price. The flavor is very consistent and always on point. I recommend getting the combo plate that comes with chicken, shrimp & steak with a generous side of veggies and onions. It also comes with a side salad and a whole combo plate of fried rice. Honestly can't beat that! The low price and high quality food always has me coming back! read more

Honestly this feeds a family of 3 no lie, I ordered combo 3 which comes with the steak, chicken and shrimp with a heaping amount of fried rice. You also get salad and a milk tea. I can't believe how much food I got for one combo. This should be listed as a family combo. Non the less I'm satisfied and this will probably last me for 3 days. It's located in kind of a sketchy area with a very small parking lot. The cashier was extremely nice and thank me for my business. Highly recommend everybody to try this at least once. You will not be disappointed. Also I read it's run by husband and wife so why not support the little guys. read more

Last week we just happened in the area and we're looking for something for lunch and found this place from Yelp. Glad that we found this place. If we can give 10 stars, we will. We ordered combo 3 (steak, chicken, shrimp) and hibachi steak. Both with fried rice and egg rolls. First compliment goes to their generous portion. We were surprised to see that each order came with 1 big container full (like as full as it's possible) of fried rice, the grilled meat, 2 egg rolls, and cucumber salad; a small container of salad; separate small containers for salad dressing, egg rolls dipping sauce and mayo for the grilled meat; and... a cup of boba milk tea! They were super generous. Those 2 orders were enough for my family of 4 to eat at lunch and dinner! Lunch and dinner for 4 people for less than $30? That's insane! Now let's talk about the food. All of the food were made to order. So we got out food fresh and warm! The egg rolls were crunchy and yummy. The fried rice was good. The meat was grilled perfectly. My problem with this kind of restaurant was usually the meat was dry but not in here. The meat was grilled perfectly. Juicy. And it was seasoned perfectly. They put a lot of sauce also. The salad was also good. The dressing was amazing. And the boba milk tea was sooo good! The boba was chewy and had perfect texture. If we go back to this area, we would definitely come back here! Great food and LOTS of it per order. We tried the chicken, steak, and shrimp plates and each came with lots of meat, lots of veggies, and lots of rice. We also ordered the chicken fried rice and it was just as good as everything else. We ordered a large order, so it took them a while to complete the order but it was worth the wait. You can't beat the prices for their meals either. I'll definitely go back when I'm in town. Support this local business! read more

Found this gem on SGV Eats Facebook and I'm glad as the food quality and pricing were spot on. They've been open for past 3 months and they only recently gotten busy due to Facebook, which is great! Make sure to place a phone order before you come in as the wait can be 30 minute to 1 hour. I believe it is only the husband and wife working the entire restaurant so please be patient with them. I ordered two items. The first item was the 3 combo meal which came with chicken, shrimp, steak, fried rice, salad on the side, and boba milk tea. The mixture of the meat and fried rice really went well together as I can taste the butter and the flavors from the meat. My second item was the chicken katsu which would be my second favorite compared to the 3 combo meal. The katsu itself was really crispy just the way I like it, but the chicken flavor was mediocre. The portion of these two items were massive so it can really fill up 2-3 people. I didn't even make a dent in any of them so I had leftovers for days. I'd recommend coming if you enjoy hibachi style on a budget! read more

This place has huge portions! I got the chicken steak and shrimp combo for 14 dollars and it also comes with a milk tea great value. I'm definitely coming back here again. 2.5 stars. With change of ownership/management came the following changes: Taste is not as good as before. The quality of the steak has gone down (very chewy). Portions have been reduced. No more eggs on the rice. No more zucchini and broccoli only cabbage. read more

I was in West Covina and needed time to kill before heading home because traffic is the worst and I was soooo hungry! I found this place on yelp and the pictures got me. I even drove 15 mins from where I was, opposite direction, because it looked so good and it did not disappoint :) I got the combo 2 and a free lemonade because of a special they had going on. The food was delicious and even the lemonade was freshly made and bomb! I paid about $15 for quality food and the portions were big. They deserve all the love! Go check them out! It's a small business too, so even better. Next time I'm in the area I will be eating here for sure! read more

Had this for lunch today and my husband and I loved it! First time seeing it on DoorDash and it was still steaming hot when it arrived to us. The portions were extremely generous, we ate it for lunch, dinner and still have leftovers for lunch tomorrow. We got the steak & chicken fried rice and chicken & shrimp fried rice. Delicious! Hey guys I found this small spot that is supposed to be like Japanese fast food!it look promising and the reviews looked great but in all honestly the food was okay. I think it needed a bit more flavor with the meat. They were nice to me and they gave me a decent amount of food. My family wanted to try this place out for dinner yesterday, so we gave it a go. Called ahead to place an order for pick up. I was surprised with the amount of food we received for the price. We have leftovers and I cannot wait to eat them again very soon. We are so happy we have found this little mom and shop spot. The portions are HUGE and the flavors are really good. I love how they don't use msg and it just tastes like good old home cooking. I would definitely recommend this spot for family and friends! OMG, this place really feed you. Food is alright. A small mom and pop shops with a little boss, I got two plates of food for a $15 combo (one plate for proteins and veggies, and another for the fried rice) The place used to be a Pizza shop that served Hawaiian BBQ, and now this hibachi place. The parking situation is not ideal, and there aren't that many tables inside. Take outs are recommended. read more

They close at 7pm but stop taking orders at 6pm. Thats twice now where I came at 6 and they said so sad too bad...they should fix their hours first. Hope nothing but the best for them tho, looks like they doing great online orders and keeping them busy. read more

Always looking for new spots to try near the house and this place had some good reviews. I picked up 2 combinations so got to try chicken, steak and shrimp. They did ask me how I wanted my steak cooked but unfortunately steak was just well done even though I asked for medium rare. Overall the food is well-seasoned, well-priced and plentiful. I would order again. read more

I really love this place! It is my favorite place. My husband and I moved to El Monte about 2 years ago and we became regulars here, eating at least once a week. Food is fresh and so good, and also cheaper for the quality you get. The cashier is so friendly and so cute, I really appreciate her. There is no other place Like this! read more

First off, the takoyaki octopus balls were full of flavor. I feel that this place does them really well. You don't feel overwhelmed by any seafood tastes and instead, you get well balanced flavor throughout every bite with the combination of the ball itself, the sauces and the flakes on top. Next is the omurice. The egg is cooked to perfection and tastes absolutely amazing. The curry, however, which was recommended by the waiter over the Demi glaze, tasted exactly like the Vermont curry cube you get in the grocery store, so I'm not sure why he recommended that over the Demi glaze. The fried rice within the omurice was alright too. Originally, I wanted to get the tonkatsu omurice but got it on the side as the choice wasn't available for the lunch menu. I would suggest doing without the tonkatsu because it was dry and there's a million and one places that can do tonkatsu better than this place. Honestly, I wish I had the opportunity to cut the omurice myself and choose how much curry I put on it, but the staff did that instead, which I guess made for a good video, but took away from my innate desires to cut the egg on my own haha. Next, the ramen tasted pretty basic like what you could get at any ramen shop. For the chicken wings, I've never had chicken wings in this flavor. They were really really good and I would definitely recommend the wings. For the desserts, I enjoyed both the matcha and the snow globe. I'm not sure what I enjoyed more, however. The snow globe is a gelatin and it doesn't really have too much flavor until you get to the parts with the flower. Plus the little clear balls have a nice flavor and texture. For the matcha, it has an interesting texture and then an interestingly light, yet deep matcha flavor. Oh the drinks. The Thai tea tastes exactly like how it does everywhere else. The amazing lemonade is a lemonade with a few slight modifications, like with cucumber and maybe some other things as well. For the service, it's pretty good here. Everyone is pretty attentive. There are three things at the table, such as cayenne pepper and two other bowls you can add to your dishes to add flavor. I forgot the name of the one I liked but it looked kind of like pork floss or loose tea, and that one had a lot of flavor. I think what's most appealing about this place is the ambiance because you can like sit in a honeycomb, there's fancy designs everywhere and you feel like you're in a different place. I think it's a good restaurant but it's kind of weird how some things here are amazing and some are just okay.

Went back again and noted my first review of this new business was merged (by Yelp admin) with the prior ownership when they claimed "japanese" cuisine "habichi" style and that was not a bit correct. My 2nd visit to the current CHINESE cuisine was as tasty as the first time. This time met the new business owner who showed me the teas made from scratch daily and I ordered the Hawthorn berry (top level on their fridge labeled as "Fructus Crataes"). Love the hand-crafted tea (these hand-made teas are not obvious on their printed menu). Asked new owner about street signage and was told have been waiting for new signage delivery for several months already! This joint's vermicelli [sheet] rice rolls are truly top-notch while priced so modestly! Ordered with beef flank and like the first visit, this signature dish is top-notch, freshly cooked in the kitchen (the chef made ingredients fresh daily), so the texture is perfect--slightly chewy and doesn't break as easily, yet it is so thin and delicate. the beef flank was added on top of the dish instead of being wrapped by the rice rolls as many other served--due to the delicate texture of their rice rolls, it is too thin to wrap anything. Beef flank did not look freshest but I ate all, thanks to their rice rolls made me so hungry. At $8.50, the portion is generous, almost double, compare to all others. This time instead of double up the rice rolls like the first visit, I ordered my second dish to be a vegetable dish. Am very particular about how my vegetables cooked and like to custom order at the chinese restaurants--Ho Kee did it well. I asked to put No oil and No salt into the dish and it was so fresh to the eyes and to the stomach--the chef could custom cook my vegetables deliciously! this is good news especially for anyone with dietary restrictions. Sakura Grill is a fantastic spot that deserves a solid 4 stars! What really stood out to me was the generous portions they offer. I mean, we're talking large portions here - especially their mouthwatering fried rice and perfectly grilled proteins paired with a variety of veggies. The unassuming location with street parking might throw you off, but don't let that deter you. This place is a hidden gem in El Monte.
