If I could give Salon Vive 10 stars I would. This was my first time at Salon Vive. I'm new to Houston and it's always a struggle to find someone who does curly hair, specifically Ouidad cuts. Paul was such a rock star. He listened carefully to my concerns about going too short, about how I needed something to fix my dry hair. He was so patient and so kind. I have so much curly hair and he expertly sectioned my hair, making sure it wouldn't frizz and used the patented Carve and Slice Ouidad cutting method specifically for curly hair. I HIGHLY recommend Paul for anyone with curly hair that wants to leave the salon feeling fabulous and super happy. I was so happy that he did such a great job. Through several recommendations from different circles, i'm told to ask for none other than Nettie. Walking in, I'm offered something to drank followed by a robe smock thing to keep the hair off your clothes. Wash Scrub Wash Rinse.. i'm walked over to the station where Nettie asks you questions with stories. Question part is what do you want.. and the story part is i'd like it clean cut while avoiding the crazy palm tree attack I experience from the sudden Houston humidity jumps. Salon Vive is a quaint boutique on the corner of Woodhead and Memorial- at least from it's exterior appearance. Inside, it feels like a bohemian color bar fully staffed with specialists for every hair need imaginable. The work stations are chic and simple, and the studio well art directed. I was booked for a cut and style with Paul. He greeted me immediately upon walking in, and assessed the situation. My hair was fried at the ends, with the luckiest natural 'ombré'. I stated my case, as one does when embarrassed of lack of attention to their hair, that I needed a trim but wanted to keep length, and color only if necessary. Paul really listened, and on top of that, agreed to not color! He suggested a treatment prior to the cut, and introduced me to Bobby. Bobby, with gorgeous hair like Fabio's except a more up-to-date style, was extremely knowledgeable and caring about treatments. While that's important, he also cared about getting to know me, building great rapport with me and others, and having a good time while at work. I can't imagine coming back for only a cut now, not only because my hair feels amazing (more on this soon) but because I want an excuse to have his great vibes in my life! After my treatment, Paul snipped and snipped away at my useless ends, and gave me a simple layered look that will continue to look great as it grows. Which is exactly what I wanted! I couldn't be more pleased! He even gave me tips on how to style it- in ways a layman could actually accomplish! I searched for a Ouidad method stylist, and found Nancy WHO IS AMAZING. I've been curly for almost 10 years now, and she taught me product application methods and general styling tips that I had never learned! She also took a good amount of time to understand the look I was going for in our consultation, and I didn't feel like she was rushing me to get the service over with. Kat was really helpful in recommending methods and products for my very curly hair. Susie referred me to Stephanie who did a great job in trimming my long hair. Oh. My. God. Vanpaul is SUCH an amazing and thoughtful stylist. I found this place on a whim, after frantically googling "Color Correction Houston" within hours after a totally botched coloring/bleach/carrot top job that another salon had done on my previously healthy, smooth, Asian hair. Of course this is the only place that showed up with five stars and they had an excellent parking situation, so I gave them a call. Bobby (later learned he's one of the owners) picked up the phone and was immediately sympathetic when I told him that I could not show up to work the next day with a head that looked like it was on fire, and he told me to come in immediately. When I arrived, Paul and a couple of other stylists were waiting for me and worked as a team to come up with the best plan of action. Two glasses of wine and the most fun, caring, sympathetic, talented team ever -- and not only did I leave with better hair than I have had in my life, but at a fraction of the price that I expected for meticulous work. Marina is the absolute best hairdresser I've ever been to! I am relatively new to Houston and had been going to the same hair salon in another city for the last 6 years. I was apprehensive about trying a new place but I'm SO HAPPY that I found Marina. She gave me the most beautiful haircut I've ever had in my life.
