The fried dough was the start of both plates. Soft and flavorful with just the right fried tastes. The meats were both good, I would get the pork again. Salsa Brava is probably best known for it's food network episode of diners, drive ins, and dives. It's a pretty standard Tex-Mex restaurant featuring favorites like quesadillas, tacos, nachos, burritos, etc. What is unique about Salsa Brava is their fresh salsa bar. When you order you are given rammakins to fill up on about 6 homemade salsas of varying flavors and heats. Note: the first bowl of chips is complimentary, but every future bowl is a $1.50. Portions are generous so you may not need a second basket. We each got a burrito and they are HUGE. We honestly should have split one, or maybe gotten and app and split a burrito. Everything was delicious though. If you get a burrito that has black beans, I would recommend getting them on the side, as my burrito was a little too beany for my preference. This restaurant has also started a program called MessLords which goes around and feeds the military. Pretty cool way to give back to our communities and service members who support us everyday. After a long day of hiking, Salsa Brava hits the spot! This is fun tex-mex spot offers big personality and more importantly giant burritos. Their burritos are chocked full of meat and beans. I could have easily made that burrito 2 generous sized meals if I wanted to, but powering through I ate about 2/3 of it. Not only was there a lot of food, but the flavors were on point. The meat was smokey and there was a little bit of kick. I could devote a whole review to the salsa bar, but I'll keep it short and sweet. This is hands down the best salsa bar I've found on my travels. There was a great variety, and all were so tasty! The first basket of chips are on the house, but trust me you'll want to order more just to keep eating that salsa! Salsa Brava seems to be a hit with both tourists and locals alike. The parking lot was packed, and I could see where parking might be a problem when it's busy. It's on a busy highway, so there's no street parking. When a group of us went on a Saturday, and the wait was about 40 minutes. We hung out in the seating area between the first and second doors. Overall, the wait wasn't too bad. Fun fact- Salsa Brava was on one of Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. These were on the menu as the menu items guy Fieri ate and they were amazing! the inside is packed with toppings and your choice of meat. I will say the outer layer was a lot thicker then I imagined but none of the less it was amazing. Service was great and salsa bar was amazing as well! We almost passed this place up, but glad we didn't! Such a great Mexican joint in Flagstaff. The salsa trio is delicious. The green salsa was definitely a favorite, then the red, then the pico. When restaurants serve more than one salsa, you've got the best points in my book! Next is a la carte tacos! I didn't even know this was an option until my waitress informed me. Sold! Adovado, peach and habanero carnitas and cochinita pibil tacos! The adovado had a tasteful kick, peach and habanero was my favorite considering I was debating between the meal and the tacos! My boyfriend had the meal and he ate it up. It's not his usual go to being we are from Oklahoma and our life is texmex. This was a nice different style! Hubby and I have been here several times and this time we were very disappointed with the wait staff. Food was good, as usual. Although, my chimichanga blanco was supposed to be served with sour cream and guacamole - didn't get it. Hubby had fajitas and asked for corn tortillas - never got them. Server (Lexi) never asked us how our meal was, never checked on us - asked the table behind us if they wanted dessert, if they needed a box. Walked past us multiple times and was either on her phone or just ignored us. Finally came and asked if I needed a box, brought it and walked away. Took us another 20 minutes to get a check. It sue was Johnny on the spot to take the money. The kicker was she asked if I needed change - NEVER A GOOD IDEA - she should have just said she'd be back with my change. And then only gave me $3.00 in change when it should have been $3.31. Wow. I guess she needed the extra. We saw this restaurant on Diners Drive ins and Dives. We have gone to numerous restaurants and they always deliver on the show's promises. We had the coconut shrimp appetizer. Crispy and delicious. We took a road trip from So Cal to Texas. After about 8 hours on the road e decided to stop in Flagstaff to eat. We had 2 cars, 4 adults, a 3 year old, 2 -13 year olds, a 15 year old and a 16 year old. All of us had been cooped up for a while and the kids were done. The food was really good but that's not the main reason we will return. Our servers name was Brandon H. And was without a doubt one of the best servers I've ever had wait on me. (64 years old and eaten all over this country, as well as several others). Most people can do a good job waiting on "easy" customers but this guy took it as a personal challenge to ensure everyone (including the kids) was happy with our experience. Success. Thanks Brandon. We stopped in on a Saturday for a late lunch, around 1:30PM. There was still a 30 minute wait. The place looks clean and they are well organized. The chips and salsa are just ok. The chips are very thick and tough to chew. The "hot" salsa had a very sweet underlying flavor. We ordered off the lunch express menu, got the blanco chimi with pork, which is smoked and shredded, very good. The chimi wasn't particularly crunchy, but the sauce may have softened it. The blanco sauce was good. The rice and beans were mediocre. The burrito from the combo plate was tiny. It tasted ok though for a sample size. The enchilada was oddly tough. Couldn't cut through it. But the filling and sauce were good. Overall it was just ok, we won't revisit. read more

This has been a staple for our family trips to Flagstaff for about five or six years, but sadly, it isn't the same. The carne asada chimichanga was bland, the Cesar salad didn't taste right and we were sad to see the seafood enchiladas were no longer on the menu. The cadillac margaritas were very tart and my wife and I only drank a few sips before switching to water. Dinner for five was about $146, but the only entree that was finished was the kids bean burrito. This has always been a favorite of ours, but sadly, we won't be returning. read more

Salsa brava was a fine establishment when I first moved to flagstaff. I haven't been in a little while so I decided to pop on in for a birthday dinner and to my surprise we were very let down. First of all the service was very lackluster, our waitress got us water, took our order and that was it. She didn't check on us once the entire meal and did not ask important questions about our meal, what sort of meat we wanted, sides or anything just kind of guessed what we would like. Speaking of the food, for the price we paid we were very underwhelmed. I understand inflation but did the food have to take part in deflation? Our servings were much smaller than usual which is unfortunate considering we usually come here to indulge in large meals considering the price I'm paying. It is also unfortunate how they charge you for everything, more chips, extra sauce, extra salsa a few for using your card it doesn't end. I'm very disappointed in the service and quality of food from this once great establishment, I think Guy Fieri might agree with me if he got what we got. read more

On both our orders, the enchiladas the tortillas were so hard we could barely cut them with a knife. They probably microwave them. Because that's what usually causes that. The rice was dry. Yelped this cute little restaurant that lies along Route 66. Everyone's review and pictures did not disappoint. The salsa bar offers a variety of flame with the mild salsa located in the center of the bar and as you go to your right or left the spicier it gets until you've reached the Salsa Brava. My dad ordered one of the Guy specials " Sopapilla" and the dough is so soft and chewey stuffed with your choice of meat, rice and beans and a very delicious sauce. My mother and I ordered the carne Asada extra well done and even then it was still juicy and good flavor. My sister ordered the steak burrito and loved it. The only feedback is the mashed beans lacked salt, It was a little watered down. Other than that, service was great! We were seated immediately, offered water, chips and informed about the salsa bar. Whoa what a disappointment this was. I hate to do it but I have to give 2 stars out for our experience at Salsa Brava. I am a huge DDD fan and have been wanting to come to either Salsa Brava or Fat Olives for the longest time now. Finally our family (7 people) made a weekend trip up to Flagstaff and this is all I talked about. We tried to dine on Thursday night but it was jammed and had a wait over 1 hour. It smelled amazing when I went in so it was a must that we came back the next day. We made reservations and were seated immediately. The server was all over the table and got our drinks quickly which was great. That was the best part of our experience.... We ordered appetizers and they were OK. The guacamole was mediocre and the nachos were overrated. The menu is big and has a lot of items on it however the server did not know it well and misspoke about a few things. My wife ordered the carne asada plate medium rare with no onions. We made sure to let the server know she has an allergy to raw and partially cooked onions and he assured us he would let the kitchen know. My daughter ordered a side of the elote corn and asked for it to be modified. My other daughter and I ordered the steak and shrimp fajitas as did my mom and sister. The food took way too long for Mexican food, even freshly cooked Mexican food. It was like they went to the ocean to get the shrimp.... Finally the food came out. The shrimp lived up to its name and was so much of a shrimp you had to dig around the plate to find them. While I love fajitas with onions and peppers I do not expect them to overtake the protein on the plate. Basically we split a onion and pepper plate with a side of shrimp and steak. The elote corn came out like normal and none of the modifications were adhered to. We did the modifications on our own by scraping the the unwanted ingredients off. Then there was my wife's meal. Of course it would come out smothered in onions. Strike one. It took a while before we could flag someone down but were finally able to send it back. The server came out and apologized saying it was his fault and admitted he rang it in wrong. That is very admirable and I appreciated that but also needed my wife's dinner to be fixed. Halfway through the rest of us finishing our meal the new carne asada plate came out. Unfortunately it was basically raw. Like less than rare. Charred on the outside but raw in the middle. Strike two. At this point my wife was frustrated and with everyone else almost done she decided to not give them another try. It was chips and salsa for her dinner that night. All in all it was a meal to forget and a true let down of a DDD join that was so hyped up and we were so excited to try. Crossing this place off the list unfortunately. read more

The service was good, very attentive but the food fell short, very short. The good, they gave free chips and salsa but that was about it. The pico had no flavor, zero. The pineapple salsa was sweet, weird and gross. The other salsa was the best one but tasted more of a jar kind. This should have been a huge flag, if you can't make salsa you aren't going to get the rest right. Margaritas came, red flag number two. We were a party of six and all of us got something different, nothing was good. I don't know why this place has so many stars, maybe they don't have decent Mexican places in Flagstaff? What I do know is they should stick to the pizza next door or find someone in Arizona that knows Mexican food. read more
