Was excited to try this place since my Grandma loved it so much. I went with her today and ordered a water with lemon. I drank over half of the water before I realized the dried stuck on food, a strand of hair and dirty smears on the glass. I told the hostess lady since she walked near my table and she promptly gave me a new clean glass of water. The waitress stopped by and said the other lady was in the process of getting me a new one. What a Great Surprise! My family stopped by on a Saturday evening and the place was full of people. It was 3 of us and we were seated immediately. The menu had a large variety to choose from for the family. For food we ordered the chicken tostadas, Saul's Platter and quesabirria tacos. Chicken tostadas plate was full, tasted great, and enough for two people or two days. Saul's platter is what my wife ordered.... She was humming the whole time and just kept shaking her head with joy. I ordered the birria tacos. These are the best I've had since living here. The beef was cooked to perfection and seemed to have been marinated and had a hint of citrus that went nicely with the consome when dipping. Charro black beans were seasoned well and had a light smokey flavor. The server we had (Fatima) was energetic and vibrant. She was only on her third or fourth day working there, but you couldn't tell. She had a great attitude, stopped by just the right amount of times. After several bad restaurant experiences post-Covid lockdown, it was refreshing to come back to Salsa. They've done a little redecorating and the place looks more modern, but the core of the restaurant is still there. Good food, great service, and reasonable prices. Its no surprise that they are busy every night and I feel like I'm lucky if I get there and there isn't already a crowd waiting for a table. I really don't know why this place has such high reviews. Coming from the San Antonio area, I was completely unimpressed with Salsa's meager attempts at Mexican or Tex-Mex food. Let me give some ratings based on what I tried: Chips- 3 stars, no better or worse than store bought. Salsa - 2 stars, are you kidding me....they are equal to the the blandest and mildest salsas that I've ever tasted. I would think this would be one of their specialties since it's their name. Tortillas - 1 star....take your thinnest cheapest store bought and throw it on the griddle and that's what you've got here. They would be run out of town if they served these in San Antonio. Queso - 1 star.....take your basic Blanco Velveeta and that's what you have here. At least use the jalapeno version. Carnitas - 4 stars....they were cooked properly with a slightly crunchy exterior and soft interior. The flavor was somewhat lacking.....some cumin lacking possibly. Overall it was a letdown since they were highly recommended and I treated my party to dinner. I'm not sure how the other Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurants in the area are, but I don't think I'll be returning. read more

So we came here after it was highly recommended by some family. It was probably my mistake that I didn't ask for specific recommendations and ordered what we normally do. The chips and salsa were okay. The cheese enchiladas were basic. The ranchero sauce had decent flavor but i've definitely had better. The spinach enchilada with spicy queso was a bit heavy and not very spicy. I did appreciate that they had vegetarian black beans and provided the option. I've eaten here several times because we live close by and until today the food was pretty good, and service was good as well. Not today. I realize the world cup is on today but your employees are paid to do a job. The person that threw my soggy nachos in a box and then threw the meat on top knows they didn't do it right, and what's worse is they knew it and didn't care. 5-6 (most of the staff and I'm assuming the manager) were in the bar watching a soccer match. I get it. But I'm also a customer that had to get something to eat after I threw your food in the trash. If you as a manager or owner have a single shred of decency you will turn the game off and give your customers the food and service they are paying for. If you can't get your employees to care more about their jobs and reputations then you deserve a line of bad reviews around the block. read more

There are 3 or 4 of these but It's not what I'd call a chain. Now that most of the restrictions are lifted, they are getting crowds again but they are probably having trouble hiring. The waits are a bit longer and the food takes a little longer to get to your table. I'm seeing management pitching in to try to make things better. Same great food and service. I am a "local." It sounds from the other reviews that this food is almost inedible. I wait with all the locals for up to 45 minutes to get seated. Their Salsa is mild some times because it is hand made. Jalapenos vary in heat so their salsa will as well. I've never had a bad meal there. I've neve had bad or impersonal service. In fact, several of the staff remembers us when we come in. House margaritas are very good. But, I think I'll head to San Antonio and look for that unnamed place. judging from the stars, it sounds like they are around 70% better than Salsa. read more

My husband and I went to Salsa Tex Mex today (7/30) for lunch. It was overall a horrible experience! It took over 10 minutes to get our drinks. Then the waitress seemed to be struggling when taking our order. We clearly said: lunch chicken fajitas and lunch chicken (fajita meat) chimichanga with charro beans instead of refried. She was confused, so we repeated it clearly again. We were brought: steak and chicken dinner fajitas and a steak chimichanga with refried beans. The waitress was confused by us saying wrong items were given. When the female lunch manager (and a younger male) came to our table, the manager argued saying the steak was chicken. No lady, clearly you cannot see straight. Manager told us that the plates we were given are expensive and the waitress would have to pay out of pocket. I don't care if it's expensive, it was NOT what was ordered. They offered to fix the meal. No, we have already been here too long with a horrible experience. We want to have you take the food away, remove from the ticket and let us pay for our drinks. The manager was raising her voice, being extremely unprofessional to the point of us asking the young man she brought out with her to take her away and not let her speak so ugly to customers again. Highly recommend that you do NOT waste your time or money here. Also, the owners need to have this female manager in a position where she does not have any customer interactions. read more
