This is a place my son and I enjoy when he's in town, my favorite is the falafel burger with sweet potato fries and the food would not be complete without the many bar-b-que sauces. The services is always amazing and waiter are always attentive to our needs. I've taken my mom a couple of times and she's a very picky eater and even she enjoyed her rib meal. The decor is a little much but if you like ranch decorum then go off then , lol. I'll always come back to Salt = Smoke! read more

Amazing whiskey selection to choose from. I love sitting at the bar at looking at their selection. Always on the hunt for a new whiskey to try. Doing a carnivore diet so I only got a 1/2 slab of ribs. Enjoyed the flavor of their ribs. They had a little pull to them with each bite. Bar tender was super friendly. Definitely worth checking out. read more

Service was incredibly fast but on the other hand the food was all lukewarm. I have a feeling they just must have giant piles of pulled pork and brisket in the back and they scoop it out for your sandwich. The result, relatively lukewarm food, and only average flavor. If you are looking for a bar with a terrific bourbon selection, however, this is definitely your place. There are probably a hundred or more Bourbons on the menu. Ate here twice, once for dinner and once for lunch. The experience was the same both times. read more

During our weekend trip to St. Louis my husband requested barbecue. We stopped in for dinner our second night and were greeted, seated, and taken care of quickly. Our server was very nice and knowledgeable. My husband ordered the brisket plate while I ordered the combo plate with smoked wings and ribs. The food came out super fast, and was delicious. The pork fat fries and baked beans were flavorful and paired well with the meal. The brisket was thick cut and melt in your mouth tender, though the ribs did not have the same tenderness. Overall we enjoyed stopping in, and even made it home with a bottle of their house made bbq sauce. read more

This place was pretty good! Found it on Yelp noting that it was one of the better barbecue places in town. They had all outdoor seating and we had great service as soon as we sat down. I thoroughly enjoyed the deviled eggs and the fried pickles. My barbecue was also pretty excellent! My friend didn't like his as much though. He said the chicken was pretty dry. So it was pretty good but I wouldn't say I was overly impressed with everything. I think I've had better barbecue elsewhere but this place was still good. They're a local chain and they are doing everything they can to enforce the social distancing as well as other safety measures during this hard time. Would definitely go back! read more

We visited St. Louis for a concert at the Pageant the weekend before Halloween and this was the #1 place I wanted to try and it did not disappoint! The service was great, the food was amazing, and it was in the Delmar Loop which was a really fun part of town. 10/10 would go back to St. Louis just got this BBQ. read more

I kept hearing about how good this place was and I was very disappointed. Everything was burnt with no seasoning. The price is very high. The interior feel like an abandoned warehouse. *Pre-COVID Review Decided to give this place a shot after hearing that it is one of the best BBQ in STL. I made a reservation on their website by joining their wait list, and was seated promptly. The waiter then let us know that they ran out of ribs and brisket and it was only 7pm on a Sunday! 1. Hushed Puppies - First time trying hushed puppies and did not really like it. Felt like the dish was a little bit too dense for me. 2. Trashed Wings - Tried both the hot and sweet flavor which were both fantastic. Really liked the strong flavors. 3. Pulled Pork Plate with Sweet Pepper Potato Salad and Brisket Chili - The star of the dish, believe it or not, was definitely the bacon and cheddar popover. The popover was so light and fluffy retained so much flavor. The pulled pork was okay, doesn't have a whole ton of flavor unless you add the BBQ sauce which was a little bit too spicy for my taste. The potato salad was pretty standard and I was not the biggest fan of the brisket chili. Overall an okay experience at Salt + Smoke. I'm optimistic though of more food variety for my next visit. Will come back when they don't run out of all their foods at 7 pm. read more

Some of the best food ever. I got the Pimento Toasted Ravs and they were PHENOMENAL. We also got a side of mac n cheese, potato salad, the blt, and pulled pork. All were stupid good. The drinks were also bomb and prettyy strong! Not to mention, the staff was SO friendly and the cooks fast. We only waited ~maybe~ 10 minutes to get all our food. Have been here 3 times during visits to my home town. Never disappoints. Highlights are the ribs, brisket, bread and beans. This is a mid-west, kill yourself thing, but on my second visit I visit my youth by ordering the fried Jalapeno cheddar bologna. You won't understand it, unless you lived it. LOL It is near the Delmar Loop, so look for the free parking and it is right there. read more

Amazing food and even better service! 6 stars out of 5. We sat outside on the patio with our dog and were served by Chris. He was helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and on top of it at all times. Really enjoyed Chris walking us thru the menu and helping us settle on some items. The brisket was phenomenal. Ribs were great. My wife's smoked salmon sandwich was a fun alternative to traditional bbq. Pit beans and green bean tomato salad were our favorite sides. We stopped at Salt + Smoke for lunch at the location across from Busch Stadium for after visiting the Arch. After checking a few online recommendations i knew this would be our bbq spot while In town. Our waiter was amazing and totally helped us make the right choices for lunch. As there were three of us he recommended ordering 2 of the 2 bestie combos so that we could get larger meat servings and try more sides. He was spot on with his recommendations and was an exceptional waiter. We ordered brisket, pulled pork, St. Louis ribs, fried bologna, beef fat fries, Mac & cheese, baked beans and cream corn. The ribs were so tender and fell off the bone but the dish the mat really had the Paul Rudd effect for us (go in with zero expectations and are blown away) was the fried bologna...this is something that we never would have ordered without his recommendation and we were blown away with how good it was!!!! 4 stars for the food & 5 stars for our service!! read more

BEST BBQ IN ALL OF ST LOUIS. The service is so fast like Chick-fil-A of jimmy John's fast. I had my order out to me in 4 minutes. Everything tasted excellent. Love the trashed wings a buddy of mine introduced me to on the menu. Now I order every time I go. They have many locations. The 2 locations I really like are on Delmar loop and next the cardinals stadium. Menu items are priced very well. You pay for the quality of the meat everything is just great. read more

Chris was a very attentive waiter and always checking up on us. The BBQ combo plates were ok. The ribs didn't get slow cooked long enough where it would slide off the bone. I was provided 2 pieces of fatty brisket in the combo, which were good at least. If anything, beer selection was the best. read more

The staff is awesome! Super friendly, not pushy, helpful, fun. We ordered the gin strawberry cocktail and a margarita. I'm not sure there was alcohol in either of them... with gin you can typically taste it. The meal came out about 3 minutes after we ordered... way too fast, not hot, the popover was burned. The brisket was really fatty, or we got the fatty section of the cut. All this said, still left a 20% tip as our waiter was great. I wouldn't recommend this spot nor go back. Expectations were high as I planned out a lunch detour here while otherwise on a quick business trip to Missouri. I really wanted to love the ribs, and the restaurant had clearly made an effort in preparing and cooking them. But there was a modest amount of meat on the bones, and what was there was a little overcooked. I also got a portion of the fatty brisket and would order that again. And while I would appreciate you not telling my cardiologist, on the second day of my trip I went to Pappy's smokehouse. If I had to compare, I'd say salt, and smoke wins on ambience, and Pappys wins on food. read more

I've been to salt + smoke many times in the past and had always gotten the brisket sandwich with Mac n cheese. Today I tried a bit of all their meats. They were smoky, but not particularly tender or flavorful. For ribs, I definitely prefer pappy's or Bogart's. The ones here doesn't have a lot of meat on it but it was still the best meat here. The brisket was smokey but a bit dry, and the chicken wings were crispy but nothing super special. The sides at salt and smoke is def one of the best parts-- love the Mac n cheese, fries, green beans. You can't go wrong here. Also love their variety of sauces! read more

I'm a picky meat eater - I consider myself vegetarian most of the time because I don't enjoy a lot of meat. I was with a group who wanted to visit while we were in town for a wedding, and I LOVED this place! I ended up ordering the BLT with a side of mac n cheese and it was DELICIOUS! We also got an order of fried ravioli which was amazing, what a good introduction to the rest of the meal. Everyone in our group finished their entire plates, even though the portions were extremely large. It was too good not to eat! The service was friendly and fast too, we were able to get a table for 6 with only a 20 minute wait. We were in a bit of a time crunch that day and our food arrived pretty quickly as well. You definitely want to stop here if you are looking for good BBQ in St Louis! read more

The bbq was honestly just okay. Didn't live up to the hype. The food came out 5 minutes after we ordered and didn't feel fresh. The bread was cold and the meats didn't feel like they were just cooked. Probably wouldn't come again. Can get much better bbq elsewhere. This is still a place that I most always bring visitors to and it is usually a yummy meal. This Monday's lunch was also delicious and my sister, visiting from CA, raved about the brisket (fatty and burnt ends). But, the most wonderful part was, 6 hours later, when I finally got home and realized that I lost my backpack sometime during the day, and, retracing my route in my head, I believed I left it on the back of my chair at Salt & Smoke. I immediately called and the hostess who answered was neither interested in my plight nor moved to any sort of urgency. I got in my car and sped over. The same hostess was there, still unconcerned and fairly clueless. Here's the wonderful part: Another worker happened over and he said he would look around and lo and behold he walks out from the office carrying my backpack!!! AMAZING!!! (This guy was the manager!) This was thle place that everyone suggested we go in St. Louis when we were attending a trade show at the Renaissance Hotel by Lambert International Airport. We called and we went to their first location which is in University Park. We called first- they do take reservations, but your whole party must be present in the restaurant before the reservation is activated. We were seated quickly, and we got a great waitress. We first ordered their specialty appetizer, toasted ravioli with a marinara dipping sauce. They were excellent. We then ordered four meat "sweetie" sampler plates. I picked ribs, brisket, pulled pork and homemade baloney with a jalapeño pepper sauce. I got their macaroni and cheese and cole slaw as sides.. They had at least four different BBQ sauces. This was the best BBQ I've ever had. The picture attached is a small amount of each meat from a 3-meat plate (pulled chicken, burnt ends, pulled pork) with sides of mac n cheese, plus chili and a bacon/cheese popover that aren't pictured. Also shown are burnt end toasted ravioli (squares) and pimento cheese toasted ravioli (triangles), plus sweet sauce and Alabama white BBQ. I usually like writing really descriptive reviews, but here's all I have to say about Salt + Smoke: Think of all of the best adjectives you can for BBQ: sweet, smoky, tender, spicy, etc. And combine them in a way that seems perfect. I've eaten at Salt + Smoke multiple times now and I think it's dangerous. I'm glad I don't live near the Delmar Loop or I'd be next up on "My 600 LB Life"... The burnt ends make you drool, the white cheddar cracker mac makes you wanna slap yo mama, the Sazerac is on point and they'll add as many luxardo cherries as you ask for, the signature Salt + Smoke cocktail hits the spot with smoky, slightly sweet, herbaceous from the tarragon, I can't stop singing their praises. I haven't had anything on the menu that I didn't want to take home. My last visit I tried the smoked salmon sandwich, it's served cold but has plenty of flavor. You have to eat here if you are visiting STL, you have to eat here if you live in the STL.....basically you're required to eat here no matter what reason you have for being in St. Louis. Get to it! Another St Louis Classic- one of my favourites for BBQ. I especially love their amazing Mac and cheese with crackers. I usually go to the location on Delmar- their service is extremely fast and the wait time is usually fairly minimal. Also one of the only places I can find a popover these days! Highly recommend. I believe the main source of confusion was that one big check had been started, but with people coming and going at different times, it had to be split into separate checks on the back side so people could pay before leaving. If you enjoy watching bartenders work their magic, I highly recommend sitting there if you get the chance. The cocktails here are unlike anything we've had before, and it was so much fun watching all the different drinks being made and seeing the creativity that goes into each one. Between the two of us, we tried four cocktails. I started with the Linea Uno and asked John if he could make it less bitter after the woman sitting next to me mentioned that was an option. The Trade Winds was one of the coolest drinks of the night, made with clarified rum, apricot, and coconut and topped with mango air. My husband tried the New York Whiskey Sour, made with clarified whiskey, yuzu, tart cherry, and black lime cordial with a red wine foam. Again, the presentation was beautiful, and it tasted just as good as it looked. My personal favorite was Ankra's Passion Fruit Martini, made with vodka, vanilla, passion fruit, lime, and bubbles. It came with a small glass of champagne on the side, which was a really nice touch. John mentioned that I could drink the champagne separately or add it to the martini as I went. I ended up pouring some into the cocktail, and for me, it balanced out the sweetness of the passion fruit perfectly. The entire speakeasy experience was just fun, from trying to find the entrance to making our way inside and finally settling in at the bar. We took plenty of pictures and videos along the way, but I'm intentionally not posting most of them because I don't want to ruin the surprise for anyone visiting for the first time. I will share a picture of the red light you need to look for at The Foundry since we initially had a little trouble figuring out where to go, along with some photos of our drinks. The rest of the journey inside is something I think you should experience for yourself. Creative cocktails, beautiful presentations, a genuinely fun atmosphere, and fantastic service from John made this an easy five-star experience for us. If you're visiting The Foundry and enjoy unique cocktails and hidden speakeasies, None of the Above is absolutely worth finding. Just learn from us and make a reservation. We got very lucky!

If you're a beer drinker I definitely recommend coming in for one. For food I ordered a cup of Mac & cheese and later the porchetta louie. Mac & cheese was just ok I personally think since it's noodles with a liquid sauce vs baked serving it in more of a shallow bowl would be better as the sauce pools in the bottom and the cup is too small to stir the noodles. Also using a smaller noodle would help with this as it kind of felt like I was just eating noodles. The porchetta louie was GOOD STUFF, I recommend! I do wish there was more pork to the sandwich because the cheesiness of it was a little overwhelming but the kale and peppers perfectly compliment the fatty of the pork and the richness of the cheese. Will order again! I'd also like to say their house cut chips are the real deal! So addicting! Perfectly crispy and salted and a great portion. Overall a great experience. This review is very late. It will talk about my visit back in mid October of 2014. The server I believe went by the name of Harrison. What a class act. Not only was his knowledge of the BBQ extensive and impressive but he transformed the whole dining experience into an absolute treat. Must have tipped him 30% at least. I consider myself a true student of the game when it comes to dining experiences. I mean I have dined in Paris, New York, Tokyo, Rome, and Dubai and I have to say this young man literally transcended the quintessential definition of a fine dining experience as well as outstanding service. I've been to restaurants of global recognition and fame such as: Noma in Copenhagen Denmark, El Celler De Can Roca in Girona Spain, and the list just goes on. Harrison's willingness and pleasant demeanor to handle my every request no matter how busy the rest of the restaurant appeared to be was awe inspiring. (Honestly he and I should switch jobs because he must have ice in the veins). His attentiveness was impeccable. I felt like I was paying for a service only seen in the likes of cartoons and movies which reach a clearly fantasy level of leisure and comfort. With that guy's go-getter mentality I'd be surprised if I didn't see him managing his own place soon. The guy is truly a diamond in the rough... hopefully that place helped him foster his talents. So my brothers and I came to the restaurant this afternoon to have lunch, per the recommendation of my mother. She had eaten there Saturday evening and had a great experience. She also recommended that I request Tim as my server, and as luck would have it he happened to be at work. So just as my mother had told me he would, Tim greated my brother's and I with a great big smile and began asking us questions about if we have ate here before and about all the food they offered, and though im sure he's made the same speech numerous times, he made us feel as if he customized it for us. We all ordered the pick 2 bestie combo with ribs and brisket. The ribs were great the meat literally falls off the bone, and words don't do the brisket justice. As per Tim's recommendation we all ate the White Cheddar Cracker Mac, and he was right it really should be an entree. Now during the time we ordered and our food arrived, which wasn't that far in between, the restaurant filled all the way up, and the excellent service never missed a beat, Tim still managed to make us feel like we were his only table. The teamwork and morale the staff had with eachother was visible to everyone. The way Tim and the young lady busser, I believe her name was C.C., seemed as if they were reading eachothers minds. I realize this is a long review, but I work in the food service industry, and I feel that it's not always given the appropriate recognition, and to be honest i have lived in St. Louis all my life, and the service, food, and overall experience is one of if not the best i have ever had. As our first dining experience in St. Louis, Salt + Smoke left much to be desired. Unfortunately, poor service and lackluster BBQ made this visit a disappointing start to our trip. Cons: The service was the biggest issue. We waited 15 minutes before being greeted, and another 15 minutes before our food order was taken after placing drink orders. Worse yet, the signature BBQ sauces - a key element of any BBQ meal - weren't brought to the table until much later, forcing us to eat the dry BBQ without them. Speaking of the BBQ, it was tough, dry, and lacked the smoky tenderness that one would expect from a place with such a strong reputation. To make matters worse, our waiter seemed disinterested and disengaged, which only added to the frustration. Pros: There were some redeeming qualities. The mac and cheese was fantastic - creamy, flavorful, and everything you'd hope for in a comfort food classic. The drinks were well-made, and we appreciated the thoughtful touch of wipes at the table for cleaning up after a messy meal. However, these small positives couldn't salvage an otherwise disappointing experience. For what it's worth, Kansas City BBQ is much better than St. Louis. Final Thoughts: While there were some highlights, the poor service and dry BBQ were dealbreakers. For a restaurant with such a solid reputation, this visit fell far short of expectations. Smokey the bear: the salt's the limit is the latest movie that has come out by dreamworks to cash in on the holiday season. It is rated G though I think some of the jokes could be racy enough to be considered PG. The movie features a standard cast of whacky characters ranging from the ernest go getter heroine to the loveable idiot sidekick. The animation is what you can expect from a dreamworks film, not quite the quality of a pixar film, but only to those in the business does that become truly noticeable. Overall it doesnt hinder the experience at all. What impressed me the most was the script. It always feels like the writers really just went all out in this one and it feels natural and almost improvised at the same time. You never really hear these jokes in films anymore and its a great experience for those wanting something new. The story, itself, starts out with a bang there is always a ton of action and drama. The action and drama is surprising considering this is considered a comedy movie but I think the producers knew what they were doing. Unfortunately it tends to hit a roadbump midway but its a small price to pay for the ramping up to the big finale. If you're going to take your kids to the movies this fall season and are looking for something you might enjoy as much as your kids then Smokey the bear: the salt's not enough is the film for you. 0 outta 5! read more

Pass this place every time I'm on the loop, and by the crowds they always have assumed it was a must have. One day my husband and I finally decided to try it out and were thoroughly disappointed. Meal came very quick which was great, but we quickly noticed MULTIPLE pieces of hair in the salad. When we told our waitress, she didn't seem to really care too much. She brought out the fries to replace the salad which was disappointing because we were looking forward to the seasonal salad. My husband had the pulled pork sand which and he said it was average, and I felt the same about my ribs. However, the bbq sauce on the table was phenomenal!! The fact we had to drench our food in it, not so much. I would say overall the food here is very average, would not go back by choice. Family party-of-3 adults, sat at a sidewalk table to get some fresh air on a low traffic weekday. Our waiter Austin L was very cordial & helpful in our menu decisions, and my daughter wants to add a shout-out to the kitchen staff member who wore a mask when he delivered our food. Our pork sandwiches were delicious, and my salmon sandwich with a smoky creamed corn side were the best restaurant lunch I've had in quite some time. A "+" tagged on to this 5-star outing, as the restaurant staff were busy prepping meals alongside the building for delivery to people whose lives were turned upside down by the May 16th tornado in the City. Where to begin - received an unidentifiable piece of charred flesh; I thought for a second the broken bones on the inside were teeth and having seen many forensic science shows I knew I was going to have to match some dental records. So anyways I took one bite of whatever had perished in a blaze and the charred remains gave me Alzheimer's immediately. Even after I had Alzheimer's I knew this food was inedible. Went with a couple of buddies (Ladies if you are looking, I am open) to the U City location and had a great time. Started off with the Deviled Eggs with bacon, great way to start. I ordered the New Riff Whiskey Flight to sip on, which was a great pick, and recommended by our Waiter. For dinner, I went all in with the three-meat plate: ribs, wings, and brisket. Everything was loaded with meaty flavor. I poured on plenty of their Sweet BBQ Sauce and added fries on the side. Finished strong with the Dark Chocolate Brownie, served warm and covered in fudge. Wanted to try this place for a while. My boyfriend got the combo plate and I got the pork sandwich. The meats were all very good. The pork was ok but with the cole slaw and the pickles made it very tasty. The brisket was the best. The baked beans were bland but the garlic and herb fries were very flavorful. The bread roll was weird and inedible(way too dry). A refill in our drinks would have been nice but it didn't happen. The tables chairs and sauces were all very sticky don't wear your best outfit. I have visited a couple times. The food is good especially for bbq. My only thing is every time I have order a side of fries I have had to ask for a fresher batch because I am given the bottom of the barrel bits and pieces while everyone else fries were fresh and whole. When paying that price for fries and when multiple people have ordered them they should know better then to dish out bottom of the basket to just one person. They have always happily changed them out so I have kept going back. read more

The food, service and atmosphere were absolutely fantastic!! The place was packed and our drinks were kept full. We had the wings and deviled eggs as an appetizer. I can't say enough about the wings! The brisket was the most flavorful, tender and juicy brisket I've ever had. The potato salad is better than grandmas! I had to take a bite of the hubby's fried jalapeño and Bologna sandwich. We sat down and looked at the menu, I thought to my self the price for BBQ was a little high. But the ambience of the restaurant and cocktail menu fit for the price. Then we got our food and it completely changed my mind. The food was good. I ordered the brisket sandwich, Cole slaw, Deviled eggs. Thae sandwich came on a butterfly bun ONE piece of brisket a little bit of fried onions. The deviled eggs were good. Theres a lot of BBQ in this town and this place sold me more on ambiance than the setting itself apart on the BBQ front. The BBQ chicken sandwich was pretty good. A little cold, but packed with flavor. Their sauces are good too. THe environment is not fast causal like a lot of our BBQ pits serve up their food here in STL. I love my BBQ and I love my mac n cheese. Friends, let me tell you about the ribs. They are smoky, messy, juicy, practically falling off the bone. Man, I was stuffed and happy when I left this place. Try the trashed ribs, I do recommend them. Only drawback is the traffic getting down to S+S so give yourself some time to get there. Great flavor and variety. You can tell they take great pride in their smoked meats. Their sides are as good if not better than the meat. Get the cheddar mac! Wash it down with a double pour of your favorite rye whiskey. With the quality Salt+Smoke provides, you would think they would be exorbitantly priced but that's not the case. Great value. We stopped by here about 3 days after protesters had busted out the windows. I was shocked how fast they had cleaned up and were back in business. Im very picky when it comes to bbq but I was blown away how yummy their brisket was (I don't eat pork).Brisket is usually dried out but it melts in your mouth at this place. Very excited about this place. Even though it was busy on Saturday night they promptly sat us. Had the fried pickles which wed hands down the best I have had. I am not a big BBQ fan. But this place is good. The food is excellent. The brisket is really the best choice. I have also had the pulled pork.
