This place is a gem, 4.5 really! We went for my brother's Birthday this past Sunday and I am so glad we did. I had mentioned it was his Birthday when I made the reservation and from the minute we walked up to the hostess and gave our name, he was greeted with Happy Birthday! Attention and care to details is what we experienced at Saltgrass. He had a huge steak with all the trimmings which he said was perfect. The queso with brisket was delicious and my fish was good too. Our server Ben was the prize though. This young man's energy and enthusiasm were contagious. He was knowledgeable, attentive and his recommendations were delectable. The atmosphere is ok. Great porterhouse steak! I don't usually see this cut of steak in restaurants, but Saltgrass not only has it, but does it well!! The flavor combined with the open flame grill is amazing! My boyfriend and I share this steak and then get a couple of sides to share- perfect portions! Our service was excellent, and although there's usually a wait (no more than 30 minutes most evenings), it's worth it. This is one of my favorite chain steak houses. read more

Starting off, the server was nice and helpful but seems as once it started to pick up a bit, not so much. My family ordered the Pat's Ribeye and not one of them were cooked as ordered. They were all over. I ordered the country fried steak and the waiter totally ignored my complaint about it. Then to add insult to injury, the manager comes over and does the exact same thing! One night, during a recent visit to Austin, we decided to visit a steak house. We didn't want to go to Texas Roadhouse or Lonestar since we have those restaurants in Chicago. So we decided on Saltgrass since it was close and we were trying to avoid big crowds. That turned out to be a mistake. I'd been to Saltgrass once before years ago (in Dallas) and thought it was pretty good. But this time left something to be desired, to say the least. We walked in fairly late for dinner (after 8) and found the restaurant nearly empty. That should have been our clue to leave, but we didn't take the hint. We were seated immediately and ordered soon thereafter. I had the filet with broccoli and a baked potato. The food was underwhelming, to say the least. It was definitely second rate to Texas Roadhouse and Lonestar. In retrospect, we would have been better off going to either of those instead. My sister had the ribs and chicken. Her food didn't even look that good. She said it was just okay. She didn't really like it so she didn't each much of it. Our meals came with salads - they weren't very memorable either. Our friend had the fajitas with rice, if I recall correctly. I think he liked his food much more than we did. It looked better, too. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. The rest of the staff was really friendly as well. There was a lighting storm that night, so you could sense that some of the staff were nervous and anxious to leave. Negative 5 stars! The food here isn't great to begin with, but if you ever thought it would be okay to get one of their a mediocre steaks delivered via Uber Eats, this is not the place from which to order. Twice they took the order then waiting for the poor delivery driver to get there before telling them that they weren't making delivery orders. I'm annoyed that they took so long to let me know this that it was too late to order from anywhere else. But the most important thing is that two people wasted their time and gas to go to their location for nothing! That is just terrible, unprofessional, verging on fraud in my opinion. Not only will I will never eat there or order from there again, I will be sure to let everyone I know hear about this terrible treatment of delivery drivers who are just trying to provide a service for a fair rate. We came in late (30 min till closing) so I did not complain . But OMG was this horrible. Medium rare" Steak came out well done with a tiny bit of pink in the center. They were out of Mac And Cheese. The salad was blah with iceberg lettuce. We were asked if we wanted bread (?) - just bring it... Of course we were rushed and the kitchen crew wanted to leave. Here is a new idea - shut down a few hours before you want to leave. Very unpleasant. Unlikely to come back. Save your money - go to Chili's- it tastes exactly the same. My sister (who came from California for a first-time visit) and I visited this establishment last night. Previously, we attempted to dine at a different Saltgrass location, which informed us of a two-hour wait. We were redirected to this location, likely based on the positive experience we anticipated. Emilio was our server, and he was outstanding--our experience was excellent, with no complaints. The food met our expectations and was delicious. Additionally, the manager, Brian, stopped by our table to check on us. Both Emilio and Brian demonstrated professionalism and a friendly demeanor. read more

Grissilly steak, poor service, and no response for being members... the whole bread situation was awful.. first, we got day old bread,... sent it back, and got day old bread, yeah...not, what it used to be... it was really a 1/2 star at best!!! Going Downhill! Saltgrass used to be an upscale steakhouse, when it opened. It was a step up from the previous restaurant in this location, and it was a great date night spot. Recently, the quality has been on the decline. The service has been slower, and the food has been inconsistent...and more overpriced. I can pinpoint the collapse back to when Landry's took over and essentially made Saltgrass a generic chain restaurant. In fact, it can specifically be traced back to when the servers were no longer required to wear bolo ties and fasten the top button of their oxford shirt. I've inquired about the uniform changes, but have been stonewalled. read more

Food was wonderful! Our waiter Sean/Shawn was amazing. Very knowledgeable and personable for being our waiter. I love the decor. The steaks we ordered were amazing. The shiner bock came out ice cold. He also brought out refills without asking. Which is always a plus. Manager came out to ask how each table was doing. When managers care about running a great restaurant, you know the establishment will have great offerings all around. I definitely would recommend dining here. Not too pricey and quieter than Texas Roadhouse. Steaks are comparable to higher end steakhouses which I am a sucker for. First time eating here. I've been in Austin for a year and a half and this is the first time I truly felt like I was in Texas! The ambiance is fantastic. This was some of the nicest service I have ever experienced at a restaurant. 5 different people ranging from servers, to management, to kitchen staff all came by to ask how my meal was. Amazing! And the cheeseburger I ordered was fantastic! I asked them to make the onions grilled and it was so delicious. This is now one of my most favorite spots in Austin. Really would like to know the name of the person who took our order he was very nice, friendly and, polite. I ordered a Virgin Pina Colada this was the only place that told me they would do it. This was the worst meal I have had since eating in the cafeteria in elementary school. I ordered the meal via Uber Eats, so I cannot comment on the cleanliness of the restaurant, or the service. But given the quality of the food, I have a rough idea. First, my meal arrived with one entree missing. My wife got her steak, potato, wedge salad, and bread. I did not get my grilled chicken or garlic mashed potatoes. I did get my wedge salad and bread. I am not sure how hard it is to make sure what you are putting in a delivery bag matches the ticket order...must be harder than I know. My wife agreed to share her steak given the restaurant's oversight. Her steak was ordered medium, pink in the center. It was delivered medium/raw, red in the center. We had to put it on our grill, as it was so raw we could barely cut through it. Yes, we cooked our own food. The baked potato had a tiny bit of cheddar cheese, a very few bacon crumbles, and a small bit of butter. We had to put more stuff on it that we had in the refrigerator. The wedge salad was atrocious. It was a giant hunk of lettuce, with 4 small tomato pieces (not wedges, but very small pieces), with just a few bits of bleu cheese, and what looked like store bought bacon bits from a jar. But the bread was good. So if you want some good bread, and a horrible meal otherwise, order from there, or go there. Saltgrass Steak House has 80 locations across the country. The company is based in Houston, Texas, and is wholly owned by Landry's, Inc. Landry's is owned by Tilman Fertitta, the billionaire businessman. Hey Tilman, your Saltgrass concept buys low quality food, does not know how to prepare it, and it seems management is mis-managing almost every facet of the workflow. That is YOUR FAIL. This place used to be great...not anymore. Tonight's experience was the nail in the coffin. My husband and I have been going here for years and we always sit at the bar. We did the same tonight and Bobby was the bartender. Nice enough guy but SO incredibly sloppy looking, a huge turnoff: half untucked shirt, stained all over with food, drinks, and sweat. I ordered a standard Cosmo and he made it with St. Germain...WHAT? My steak came out medium rare when I ordered it medium and was super fatty...odd for a center cut filet. I order that to specifically avoid that issue. My husband's salad had eggs on it when he specifically ordered it without as he doesn't eat eggs. It became painfully obvious that Bobby was not paying any attention when we ordered, he was just running down his script. The guy sitting next to us had the same experience (minus the cosmo). Such a huge disappointment. Mediocre at best and that's being generous. And for $190+, you should be doing WAY better. Wonder what Tilman would say? At the very least, I imagine he'd be seriously embarrassed. read more
