As local residents in Bee Cave, Texas my wife and I were super excited to have a Saltgrass coming to town. We especially were happy because we are Landry's members and we like to frequent a variety of the Landry's restaurants while traveling on business and vacationing. Within the first two weeks of opening we made sure to give our new Saltgrass a try. The location was great right on HWY 71 at the Bee Cave Galleria and the atmosphere and restaurant environment was great. It wasn't too loud as other local Bee Cave restaurants. As expected, it was packed but we waited to finally be seated and the server was helpful. To our disappointment the food was cold and the flavors were not appealing. My wife has a gluten allergy and there were not as many options as we had hoped so she selected the chicken dish. I ordered the larger size filet. It was an unfortunate visit and likely because they just opened so we decided to give them a few months to get into the groove.... So after a few months I decided to give Saltgrass another try. This time I ordered the Tenderloin Medallions and wow it was delicious! The temperature of the steak and the baked potato were perfect. The flavor was awesome and it really hit the spot! I also enjoyed the house salad and appreciated the variety of items it included such as cheese, croutons, etc. I was also pleased to see they had a nice IPA on draft. This experience was massively improved and I am so happy that I gave Saltgrass another shot! Our Sunday dinner experience at Salt grass Steak in Bee Cave was once again a disaster. After standing at front desk for 20 minutes we were finally seated. Just myself and my husband... At a table for 6. After 15 minutes the manager came and took our drink order .. martinis and fried mushrooms. After 20 minutes our drinks came.. then the mushrooms.... My husband took one sip and cut his lip on the cracked martini glass. It took forever to get a waiter to come over to order new drink in a not broken glass... It never came . Tables around us that came in later received their drinks.. salads.. appetizer and food. We finally caught the mgr and paid for appetizer and one drink... And left...never got our food ....Total disappointment... Again. read more

We went to the Saltgrass Steak House to eat our Thanksgiving dinner; however, it was a real disappointment. The turkey was dry because they did not serve it with any gravy. The mashed potatoes were also disappointing because they were not the usual creamy consistency, but somewhat dry. The sausage stuffing wasn't too bad; however, it could have had less sausage in the mix. Neither my wife or I ate the green bean casserole as it was not to our taste. This was literally the worst food I've had in a long time. We had a CFS that was perfect in the outside but rare in the inside, see the pic. We also had a Nashville hot chicken sandwich. 16 bucks and it was three chicken fingers on a bun, Whataburger does better for half the cost. Food has gone downhill over a short period of time and the service is pretty abysmal. Sat there for 18 minutes making eye contact with the wait staff but they never took a drink order or helped me. It's almost comical at this point. We have gone there three times, and each time there was a major mess up. One was so bad that we left without any food. You may ask why do we keep going back? Well, we have $250 in gift cards that we've been trying to use since November and we cannot use them because they keep messing up our orders. The whole order! Ate here Sunday evening, hoping that kinks noted in other reviews had been resolved. Unfortunately that is not the case. Ordered a whiskey sour, delivered at same time salad served, that was mostly sweet and sour mix with no taste of whiskey and no garnish-not even the cherry! No lemon with husband's ice tea! My "smothered" filet was perfectly cooked but the mushrooms and carmelized onion topping was about a tablespoon, definitely not smothered, and garlic mashed potatoes were lost on a large platter-again no garnish or attempt to make plate look appealing. My husband's prime rib was ordered medium rare but was served rare. Folks at next table complained when their food started arriving before cocktails so there seems to be no coordination between bar and food service. Won't be back anytime soon. read more

Nice people but the service is always a bit slow and lacking. The way I rate a restaurant, is they get higher reviews if, either the service or food is stellar. If both are great, they get a 5 star. We LOVE Saltgrass. We have been waiting for a while now since we saw it being renovated. Now we are here the day of their opening for dinner. Couldn't be happier! Average at best. Ribs were low on sauce and were dry and we asked for more they gave us a tiny container that was only half full. I had a steak that was medium vs medium rare that was warm not sizzling hot. It was dry. The bread was ok but about half the butter. I don't get it they would skimp on something that cost 25 cents at best. One step above Denny's. Not like the Texas longhorn steakhouse, or county line or Steiner ranch. Not memorable. I rate this place 3.5. None of the food's temperature was hot, including appetizer. The white queso dip was delicious despite this. Complimentary bread was tasty and soft. Redfish dish was okay. The meat was much thinner than I would have liked. Flavor, alright. Wasn't thrilled about the brussel sprouts even though the person who brought it to the table raved about them. Guess they noticed my face when I saw what they looked like. I haven't counted this place out, at this point, and am willing to try something different the next time we go. I came to Lakeway to shop at a specific store and found this Salt Grass in the Galleria Ctr. Bee Caves, TX. Wow! Wow! Wow! The moment I walked into the restaurant, I was greeted by the hostess that was immediately friendly and offered me to sit where I please. Once I was seated, I was immediately greeted by my server Michael and from that moment on, the service was sublime! You are in one way or another interacting with most of the floor staff during your visit and that was different than most places you visit, you could feel the "team" effort by everyone. I ordered the WAGON BOSS CENTER-CUT TOP SIRLOIN. It was cooked to perfection! I am a cook and saved my steak so I could have another friend taste it. If you want a great friendly atmosphere and food that is cooked to perfection and happen to be in Bee Cave or you feel like a drive with your honey, I encourage you to visit this place. This was the first time eating at this Salt Grass location. Three of the five of us ordered steaks cooked medium. They came out rare, almost raw. Our bill was over $150, but AARP advertises that if you are a member, you will get 10% off your bill at Salt Grass restaurants. We've eaten at many Salt Grass restaurants and normally you show your membership card after you finish your meal and the waiter takes 10% off our bill as seniors. Despite showing our card to the waiter, no discount was given. When we said something, the waiter went to the manager and the manager said he would only take 10% off one of the meals, which came to $3. Overall, it simply felt that they didn't care about their guests.... undercooked food, poor service, and disallowing the full AARP discount. There are many other good steakhouses in the area, we will be going to one of them. read more

Very good flavors, while tending to be multi-layered and subtle. The Tenderloin Tips are accompanied by juicy mushrooms and rustic mashed potatoes and have a delightful red wine brown sauce. My husband and i ordered two entrees to go. Bartender literally crossed off items with a sharpie saying it was all there... my husband gets home: missing an entire entree with two sides and salad. He calls the restaurant and while he's on hold with the restaurant, bartender calls and says, "I'm looking at half your order"... Confused because WHY did the bartender cross it off on the receipt like it was all there in the first place? My husband says he will head back to the restaurant , but would like the entree remade (reasonable request) and wants to speak to the manager... mid sentence the bartender HANGS UP on him. My husband calls back and asks for the manager directly. Once she is on the phone, she apologizes, he heads back to the restaurant to get the order. They did reverse charges, but the chicken fried steak was so dry and hard, it *seemed* as if they put the same order back in the fryer(?) i was nervous to eat it too after trying to cut into it... not sure if/who handled the food after the complaint. To be fair the manager was nothing but apologetic and kind, she was nothing but amiable and helpful (5 stars fir her!) ... my husband was a regional restaurant manager for years, and he understands accidents happen, busy Friday night, orders get misplaced... we totally get it...not a super a big deal... but with the bartender hanging up on him...this likely will be our last 'to go' order from this location. read more

The Hill Country Salad continues to go downhill in quality. Today, the lettuce was brown, wilted and not edible so I sent it back and just asked for a couple of chicken tenders. The manager insisted I pay for the salad I sent back or she would charge me a higher amount for just the chicken tenders. The salad is $14.00 and I thought $5+ for each chicken tender was ridiculous. This place was always good. Not last night. We went to use my birthday points. Ordered Diet coke, did not get it. Asked for straws, never got them. Food was just OK. When the bill came we did not get discount for birthday points. Did not get charged for drink. Finally got a manager. Asked me if I knew when my birthday was???? Messed around and said, "it is under name of Linda?" NOT even close. Finally got it straight and got new bill and on new bill we are charged for the diet soda we never got. While we were eating our salad the waiter was going around with a stray Visa card asking people if it belonged to them as he did not know where it came from. It has been 20 years since I last ate at a SG... Their prices have caught up with the times, staggering for a restaurant that only seem it's better than your neighborhood chili's. When in fact, it's far from it. At least Chili's know it's crowd. Other than that, their food has stood perfectly frozen in time for two decades -- EXACTLY the same amount of awful as I remembered. The steaks are so dry it's like eating jerky, except y'all don't even season your steaks so it's not as good... Let's see, things you look for in a piece of steak, the cut, the seasoning, the cook/ temperature control... Y'all didn't get one right. For all I know those grill marks could be painted on because that sear did absolutely nothing to hold the juices in. That's that. Started off with a wait, no worries. Sat after 10 min like they said. Table of 5 of us. My little brother sat down and sat on a steak knife which then sliced his finger. Salads came out and the two Cesar salads had chunks of ice throughout. The wedge salad was the crappiest salad I've ever seen after they said that what was taking so long for them to come out. Steaks come out and the T bone was the driest, thinnest piece of over cooked meat I've ever seen when it was ordered medium rare. The Mac n cheese side was cold for all 3 that ordered it and when it came back out for us after sending it back it was so hot and ever cooked we couldn't even eat it. I don't normally give 5-star reviews and maybe this was a fluke but our dinner last night was absolutely exceptional. We ordered on line, pickup was quick, friendly and efficient. Food was ready to go exactly on time. Drove 20 minutes home and dived in. Steak (juicy, buttery 16-oz. Ribeye) was flavorful, tender and served two people with a chunk left over. Came with Caesar salad which had a really good classic dressing, again plenty for two and mashed potatoes with gravy. We also got the fried onion strings which were crunchy and delicious even after 20 minutes in the car. We shared orders of green beans and I had a loaded baked potato. They were both as good as you would want to go with such a wonderful meal. Oh, and fresh baked bread with honey butter. Total cost $52 including tax and $5 for the to-go server. I will say the staff was very friendly and attentive. However, the food was a waste of money and calories. The house salad was probably the best thing on the menu. I had a fillet and the other people with me had surf and turf. Meat was not of the best quality and was not cooked as requested. Shrimp was a bit rubbery. Sides were just OK. Doesn't help that all of our food came out at the same time as the kitchen couldn't seem to get things in sync over the evening. read more
