Did saltgrass just become one of my fave restaurants?! I came to saltgrass this evening to celebrate my mom's birthday. We had such a great experience. The mozzarella sticks were honestly the best I've had haha! They tasted fresh and well done. And also the Caesar salad with salmon was sooo delicious. We ordered cheesecake and the white chocolate sauce makes it spectacular. Would definitely come here again and all I would do differently is tryyy to eat less :/ bc everything was great! They obviously don't know how to get people seated. People are starting to leave and there are lots of empty tables. Follow up: After a long wait we were finally seated. The waiter was excellent in all regards and it seemed that the other waiters were also doing a good job. The food was served quickly and accurately. I had the Cajun ribeye with shrimp and crawfish. The shrimp were excellent, the crawfish were tiny. The steak was possibly the worst steak I have ever eaten. It was prepared correctly but it had to be the cheapest cut they could buy. It was tough and filled with fat and gristle. If it wasn't for the kind service of our waiter this dinner would be the worst of my life. Five stars for service, zero for food. read more

First first I'll say that the atmosphere was nice. The service was good and the food came quickly but the food was not impressive. It was not seasoned bland and unenjoyable. I would personally not eat at this location again and I wasn't very impressed across the board with the choices I had, my lunch partner on the other hand seem to enjoy her meal and was happy with she got so maybe it's just me and I can accept that. We were in Lubbock for a tour of Texas Tech University and drove 6hrs from East Texas. We checked in to the hotel and we're so hungry, looked online for close restaurants and picked Saltgrass. I am so happy we did. Everything was so good including the service. My husband & I first had a drink while we waited for our table to open, about 45mins. We didn't get any starters. Our daughter had the brisket tacos and loved them. Husband had the steak salad and enjoyed it. I had the 6oz filet with chimichurri & mushrooms & side: the Brussels sprouts and everything was perfect. So delicious. The filet was so tender & cooked perfectly. They first forgot my chimichurri sauce with mushrooms but promptly brought it when I told our waitress. It was SOOO GOOD! Alexis, our waitress was so helpful even took a few minutes to talk to our daughter about her experience at TEXAS Tech. It was a wonderful experience! read more

We drove by the restaurant on the way to go shopping and we decided to try it based on reviews I had read about it. My wife and I were both glad we did. The ambiance was what you would expect from a Texas steakhouse without going overboard. The interior was not overly crowded with tables or decor. The wait staff was very accommodating , patient and attentive. While I thought the menu was a little pricey at first, until I saw the size of the portions...my wife's salad looked like an entire salad bar. We ordered fried mushrooms and shrimp cocktail as appetizer's and I must say we have never had mushrooms fried that way, so delicious and again generous portions. I ordered braised beef tips that were tender and well seasoned. At no time did our tea get below half a glass and the manager even came by our table to thank us for coming in. Went there for my son's birthday, the server was efficient but not friendly. The food was awful!! It was our first time and our last time there. The burgers were dry, my potato soup was cold and it looked like grits. The chicken fried steak was mainly dough! Very disappointed in our visit to this location on Monday, June 12th. Sadly, it was a fairly minor issue that could have been quickly managed and resolved by an engaged and capable manager...it was NOT the fault of the waitress in the least. We went in and ordered a petite sirloin and my daughter ordered a 6 oz filet with mashed potatoes. The restaurant was very slow, fairly empty, so it was not a situation where it was busy or the kitchen was behind. My daughter ordered her steak Medium Rare, when the food came out, the steak was clearly medium..almost medium well. My daughter really isn't the type to send food back, but it was a fairly expensive steak, so I called the waitress and asked her to please take it back. I worked for over ten years in hospitality and restaurant management', so I know how long it takes to fire a steak. It was almost 20 minutes before it came out again and this time ...it was Well done! The entire time, the manager, who knew we had sent it back was standing by then at chatting with his friends for almost 30 minutes. Our waitress, who was very sweet but also clearly new was racing around madly trying to greet and seat people and the manager seemed as if he didn't have a care in the world. This time I called the waitress over and explained that she wanted the steak medium rare. The entire time, we were calm, we were polite, we tried to be as pleasant as possible because the waitress was sweet as pie and clearly trying to do the very best she could., Another 20 minutes go by and this time , the manager brings it out and asked my daughter to please cut the steak as he stood by. He definitely gave off vibes as it the entire issue was our fault or that we were to blame. Really dude? Did we interrupt your 30 minute chat with your friend at the bar and you are annoyed? My daughter sees that the steak is now medium rare and thanks the manager who heads back to his buddy. She then takes a bite of her mashed potatoes only to see that they are ice cold and basically the same scoop of mashed potatoes that she was served the FIRST time the plate came out! This manager should have taken the steak straight to the kitchen when it was returned the second time and prioritized the order asking the cooks to retire the plate and make sure it was medium rare. He should then have served a fresh plate with a hot scoop of mashed potatoes, ( which is honestly not costly...it isn't like we ordered asparagus with hollandaise) and brought it out with a smile and perhaps offered an apology or perhaps an appetizer for a return visit. That is basic...but he clearly had better things to do and doesn't set a high standard for the way food goes out. I would NEVER EVEf send out a plate to a customer with ice cold mashed potatoes. Totally unacceptable and honestly...just lazy. The manager sets the standard and should take the lead in making sure that orders, especially one that has been returned twice goes out absolutely perfect. On the way out, I said to myself...no wonder this place is dead during lunch time! . We left the poor waitress a nice big tip...it wasn't her fault, but the manager here needs to increase his enthusiasm, stay engaged with managing his floor, supporting his staff, perhaps walk around and see if his brand new waitress needs some help when he has so much free time? Also- try not to contain your passive aggressive attitude Mr. Manager and don't act like the customer is the problem when YOU are the TEAM LEADER and the one managing a kitchen team that needs three attempts at firing a medium rare filet. Maybe take a look in the mirror and ask yourself...why does it take three times for the kitchen to get a steak right when I am the leader? Maybe I should go into the kitchen and make sure it gets done right the second time? Just a suggestion. Less blame the customer and more take some personal accountability and be a leader by setting a higher standard for how orders go out hot and edible when customers pay $30 for a filet and a scoop of mash! We had to flag down a server after being seated for 20 minutes without anyone acknowledging our presence at all. The "simply grilled " salmon was heavily seasoned, almost blackened, and my husband's chicken fried steak was so salty he couldn't eat it. My husband told a manager about our disappointment with the wait for a server to take our order but the manager didn't provide any service recovery at all--never checked back to see if our meal had ever arrived or if it was okay. We love the Amarillo location and have been there several times but were very disappointed by the food and service at the Lubbock location. The Waiter was awesome! Cain was one of the best waiter we have had!!! The food was 1 of 4 cooked OK. 4 steaks all cook way too long or not enough. Sweet potato was hard from being undercooked. I am assuming they are understaffed based on their empty tables, but if you want a good steak, go somewhere else. If I could give it NO stars, I would. My husband, daughter, and I went to Saltgrass in Lubbock on Thursday, Oct. 17. We stopped on our way to our hotel. The hostess took us to a table right in front of what seemed like the waitstaff center since there were probably three waitresses standing there when sat down. Eventually, they went about their business in other directions, and we waited and waited--10 minutes, 15 minutes. My husband asked a mid-aged adult male who worked there, "Sir, can you tell us who is our server? We've been sitting here for a while and no one has come to this table," He said yes, walked away, and before he talked to anyone, here came our waitress. We ordered against our better judgment. Drinks came soon, followed by a salad. The waiting game continued. Eventually, we saw a single lady and a five-person family who came in after us eating at their respective tables; I don't know if they were eating starters or main meals. All I know is that it was past 30 minutes after we had ordered two chop salads and a grilled salmon with broccoli. When we told the waitress that we wanted our order to go, someone soon came from the kitchen to ask if everything was okay. "No," we iied. "We want to get to our hotel." 15-20 minutes later, we left with food that was unremarkable, just meh! We will NEVER return to Saltgrass Steak House in Lubbock, and will make sure to tell anyone that asks about our days in that city. The food is great from drinks to the food. I love the Pats ribeye that melts in your mouth to the Chicken Fried Steak which is also very good. We go for special occasions and the management and staff are wonderful. I would definitely recommend Saltgrass in Lubbock! we came in early on a weekday to try and get ahead of the crowd, big mistake. The place was a ghost town with only two visible employees working. No hostess, just a bartender and a waitress. when I asked the bartender a question about the bourbon selection she just ignored me because it was shift change at 4:00 pm. when she was asked to seat us since there was no hostess, she took offense and took our menus to the only table that was six inches from the only group in the place, threw them down and walked off. There is nothing worse than a surly bartender with an attitude. Especially in a high dollar steak house with a Landry's Club for members only. In this case membership has no benefits. Ordered to go lunch today. Called in order at 11 went up there to pick it up. Parked at curbside and got our order at 11:30, we checked our orders and was missing one new york strip. Called them and said its on the receipt but was missing. Person on phone said theyre backed up in kitchen and itl be awhile before they can get it out. So we waited. Then @ 1:10 i called them and checked on that order and the lady on phone said the order will be done in the order they are received. I explained we have the rest of the food with us in the car. We waited for 30mins and then she said oh il come out and look at ur receipt. She came out looked at our receipt and said ok itl be another 20mins. WHAT???!!! Are u kidding me? Later on she came out and gave us the order finally. So there you go. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I gave 2 stars because the steaks we got were good but COLD. No question, the steaks were seasoned good, but dang cold coz we waited there for awhile. And the staff arent friendly or not even really sorry about their mess up. So just to make it clear, the one star is based off of the food, and a server who wasn't even ours. If it wasn't for the food and this server, this place would get no stars. I came here for an anniversary lunch with my girlfriend because we had heard really good things about this place and decided to check it out. 9/15/19 The parking lot is fine, easy to get in and out of and it's a pretty good sized lot. The inside is decorated of course with a western type of theme. There was no host/hostess when we arrived which wasn't a problem, we were still greeted within moments of walking in by a server and he sat us in a booth. Our server, Andrea, greeted us, she took our drink and food order, brought out a potato soup and we didn't see her again after that. Never came back to refill our drinks or to check on us. A different server brought out our food. A manager never once came to our table to check on us either even after multiple times of making eye contact. We had to eat our meals without drinks, it wasn't until we were already almost done that another server, named Adam came and asked if everything was okay, he got us refills and brought out our ticket, he even cashed us out. He was super polite and courteous. Him and the food were the only things good about this visit, needless to say, he got the tip. On our way out, we saw our suppose to be server walking back inside with another co-worker as if they were taking a break or something, which is fine; we all need a break sometimes, but if you have open table tickets, inform your table you'll be stepping out and make sure you have another server to take care of them.
