It was our first time here the other day. Our server was very friendly, chatty and patient as we talked his ear off with questions! Lol! If he didn't have an answer he found one for us. However, they were out of the NY Strip that I wanted originally so I got the 12 oz Ribeye instead with grilled shrimp! I wasn't disappointed! It was SO delicious! And they wait to put your order in until AFTER the appetizers come out so you have time to socialize and nibble on them. The dinner salads are HUGE, you get a loaf of fresh wheat bread, and your drinking glasses are big as well. If you're looking for a good date spot this is it! It's a bit expensive but not as bad as I thought it was gonna be... However, it's seems like all high quality cuts so I expect them to be more expensive but it was cheaper here for us than at Longhorn Steakhouse! The server was kind and attentive. I purchased a 9oz filet that appeared to be a small 6 oz. I only say this because I had a 9 oz filet at Longhorns that was double the size the day before. I ordered medium rare and it came to me well done and after returning it the reorder was rare and lots of fibrous tissue in the meat. The manager did not offer any comp or discount. Saltgrass has delicious food, but this location has very slow service, which is so frustrating. I called for a Sunday reservation at 12:45pm. When we arrived, it took them 10 minutes to get a table ready for us I now see on this page that they are "no reservations" so wish they had just said so when I called. More important, the service from the kitchen was very slow. The wait staff was friendly, but there was not much they could do so hurry up the food. We weren't sat until 8:45...didn't get to order drinks until 8:55...the first half of our party got their food at 9:15 the other half got their food at 9:40 (the first half had finished eating). Our waiter and management were less than helpful and showed no regard to our party. I don't understand why they would assure us weeks ago they could accommodate a party of that size - if the wait staff, kitchen, bar staff and management can't do their jobs. Despite being gifted a place in the "Saltgrass member select club" our experiences at this particular steak house have been very disappointing to put it lightly. I don't know about you, but I just love paying $10 for a plate of eight fried m&ms (worlds smallest mushrooms) of the dark dark brown/old oil variety. This is about as savory as discovering your house salad holds within its depths, the dry aged coppered remains of the ice bergs core. The only thing that would make this opening scene better would be if it all happened over the stretch of 40 minutes WITHOUT DRINKS. (Spoiler Alert: it did indeed come to pass) It also seems to be the case that extremely slow service (waiting 20 minutes for a brown through and through cooked steak, that was supposed to be served as medium RARE, to come back out is seen as acceptable by not only "new servers", but management as well. Great. Not only does the fact that management deems a brown frisbee worthy of being called a medium rare steak raise a red flag, but the attitude of arrogance, flippantly futile "effort" to fix the numerous problems, and the outright disagreeing with the oh too patient CUSTOMER combined made for a very pleasant and savory end to the week. I'd like to say that once the check was brought to the table, all was adjusted to make up for the many mistakes made in the not so savory hour. Saltgrass Steak House in Lubbock, Texas has become a favorite of ours. We live in Abilene, TX, which does not have a Saltgrass, so a visit to eat one of their delicious steaks is a must. The restuarant is always clean, including the restrooms. For me, if the restroom is messy, there are broken or worn locks, dryers, towel dispensers that don't work, I suspect the kitchen is the same way. If a restuarant can't keep the public areas clean, why would they keep a non-public area clean? We were seated in a booth and the floor beneath the table was clean and the booth seat was not cracking, but in great condition. Greeting at the door has always been quick and friendly; striving to seat one where they feel the most comfortable. Due to light sensitivity, I always ask to have shades dropped. This request was immediately accommodated by our waiter, Pearson. Pearson was a delight and one of the best waiters we have ever had. He was very attentive, always checked our table as he walked by to ensure our drinks were full, we had plenty of bread, and to see if everything was to our liking and taste. The manager Chris (Kris?) L. also made a stop by the table to see if all was well with our visit. He was very pleasant inquiring how the food was, how service had been, and just visited a few minutes in general. Turned our he knew people in Abilene we also knew - small world! We ordered the 16oz Pat's rib eye. We were going to share the steak, and our great waiter, Pearson, had them cut it in half for us while still in the kitchen. The steak was a perfect medium and the flavor was delicious. The salad was large with some of the best soft croutons we have ever eaten. We had baked potatoes which were cooked to perfection and the extra sides were generous portions. The bread arrived to the table hot and fresh. My only wish would be for an extra butter for the bread. The table we were set at had mashed potatoes all over the floor, which i stepped in and said something to the hostess... when our waiter finally arrived at our table i mentioned the potatoes on the floor to him, he just said idk!! We ordered appetizers (jalapeño poppers with shrimp). Brought our drinks back with some old bread (i ask for a new fresh bread) and we placed our order. Waiter came back and said they were out of the appetizer so we said we would just take our wedge salads before the meal and just not get an appetizer. My husbands baked potatoes was cold, would t even melt the butter.. my steak was cold, like it had set in the window too long, the only flavor it had was like a dirty grill... finally our ticket came. I told our waiter that my steak was bad and that he had charged us 5.50 for each wedge salad which the menu said upgrade for 3.49 and he was supposed to not charge for asparagus since the potato was cold, all this for 90$, the manager never came to the table and i never got fresh bread, the waitress for the table next to us brought her table 7 breads in a to go bag since they were closing and those would be thrown away!!!! We were using a birthday reward at lunch. Evelyn was our server and she was just right on her attentiveness. She got the order right, came around to check on periodically and when we had additional requests, she was quick to resolve it. We ate off the lunch menu and had shrimp and steak and chicken fried chicken. Food was served at the right temperature and steak was cooked perfectly. We also had a white cosmopolitan that was new and delicious! The ambiance was fine, but it was very similar to other large chain steakhouses. Management came by and visited as well. I love Saltgrass. I've never had a bad experience at one. I had to come try it since it's a new restaurant here. I got the Pat's ribeye with a loaded baked potato(minus the bacon) and a Caesar salad. I love that they bring a peppermill to your table for the salad as I love freshly ground pepper. It was delicious. My steak came out perfect, hands down the most tender steak I've ever had. My boyfriend LOVED his bacon cheeseburger. Multiple servers and managers came around making sure our dining experience was a good one. I definitely recommend trying it. We was a party of 6, when we set in the server section, she just looked at us at a distance. We waited for 15 mins. Another table set in her section and she went and greeted them and service them. We just was looking around, another server saw us that was in a different section came and apology and took care of us. By him being in a different section, we barley saw him to get the service that we deserve as a guest. Her section grew to 4 table and we watch as she worked around us attending to the other tables in her section giving us a disgust look. As a business owner of a restaurant, I would have fired her on the spot. Multiple business are closing down and a server refuse to serve a table for whatever reason she had is not acceptable. Friday night, the place was packed. I get it. I made my way over to the bar and patiently waited for a seat. Once a seat became available I sat down and browsed the drink menu, then put it down. I waited patiently as the two bartenders rapidly passed me 1/2 a dozen times without making eye contact or acknowledging I was even there. They proceeded to ignore most everyone at the bar and were snippy if you tried to flag them down and order. They are always running behind, the meals were cooked incorrectly , and both times it took 40-60 minutes to get our dinner; after we sat and ordered. This time we had a reservation and they still ran behind on seating us. As a Landry's Select Club member it's just disappointing that they got it wrong twice. Went to meet a friend on a Sunday evening. Got seated around 4:30pm, left the restaurant close to 7pm because it took forever to get our food, and then the food was terrible. I had my 2 y.o. son there basically having a tantrum because the food was taking forever and our waitress seemed as if she was avoiding our table. I got the salmon, which was over cooked, it wasn't even pink, and a side of Brussels sprouts that just looked like a shredded mess. This was our third attempt coming here, and we will not be back. Looking at the reviews, I am thankful that our family lucked out in having a good meal here. The food was pretty good and staff was nice. Wait was long, but just means high demand at lunch hours on weekends. We had a large party but they had very ample waiting lounge space with a fun South Western cowboy atmosphere and design which was fun to walk around and look at! I think the only thing was that they lost one of the meals we had ordered at our table so either the staff never put the order in or a staff must have accidentally grabbed for another table so our Grandpa had to wait a little longer for his entree but we had gotten soup / salad and appetizers so it wasn't the most terrible thing to happen and we had a really large table of over 10 people so he was glad himself that that was the only mix up that happened. read more
