My wife and I love Saltgrass. It has become our celebratory restaurant. We're in grad school, so it's prices are more reasonable than 135 and the food, to us, is just as good. Every steak we have had has been cooked perfectly to order and our service has always been exquisite (even when the kitchen is running behind). At 7PM my daughter called the saltgrass in waco to get on waiting list for my granddaughters birthday dinner. She told them party of 9 & told 1 hr wait. At 8 we were told 15 more mins. I ordered a ribeye and asked for it medium. It came out well done. This is a steakhouse not Denny's and I find it unacceptable. I have been to this location 3 times and 2 out of 3 times my steak has been over cooked. I would much rather have one a little under cooked. Get it together please. To be fair the manager came out and asked if I wanted another one. I declined. The fools couldn't get it right before and I have no confidence they would do any better. I was a fan of Saltgrass but after today I probably never go back. We both had the 12oz ribeye and both were below average for 23.00 each. My baked sweet potato was so small I started laughing. I literally got two bites out of it. Here's the rub, they changed vendors because they were too big, you never want to give the customer more than he paid for so the changing vendors cost them my business which I'm sure they are not to worried about!!! read more

Saltgrass never disappoints. This location was no exception. Excellent waitstaff, and I was seated very quickly. The food came out very quick, and was perfect cooked. I never had to ask for a refill on my drink. The waitstaff was always there to make sure we had everything we need. If you're looking for a good steak, then definitely go to Saltgrass. read more

I went there with my father for my birthday. The service was good and friendly. I ordered the surf and turf which was ok. The bread was good as long as you eat it when it's hot. Overall not a bad place, a little bit too expensive for what I was expecting. read more

Conveniently located by our hotel- other reviews were very good however we must have caught them on a bad night- server was not very friendly or attentive- steak we ordered was a filet but not the best- shrimp was also not the best- it was my daughters bday and she was not sung too- so our opinion was this restaurants quality did not meet the price we paid. read more

Does not compare to any other Saltgrass we have ever been to in Texas! it should be noted that the place was not busy at lunchtime (which should have been my first sign to steer clear). Staff looks absolutely miserable, we waited so long for our food that our waiter came to ask if he already took our order and questioned why it wasn't up yet, steaks came out rare despite asking for medium, salads came out after our meal (after I told staff that they forgot them), no drink refills, and a complacent manager who could not have cared less. There were five tables seated in the restaurant so I cannot rationalize any aspect of the poor service we received. read more

Medium well-done! I hadn't had a steak in a while and decided to eat here for dinner while in town overnight for work. I don't have any complaints at all. I thought I'd have to wait a few minutes because there was a Sunday crowd, but we were seated immediately. Our waitress was very friendly, smiled and was attentive the entire time. The waitress--Marlina--was rude and had zero personality. She threw food onto the table, failed to keep drinks filled, forgot part of orders, and yelled across restaurant several times. She was over the top. She needs more training!!The food my husband and sons received was good according to them. My food was over cooked (tenderloin tips-burned-and Brussels sprouts-crunchy & charred) and inedible. My son's fries -- that were left off the plate-- were burned. We should have seen that as a sign... The bread was good. I left her an adequate tip because maybe she had a rough day. This is a must when visiting Waco. My husband and I both ordered the filet mignon and it was SO amazing. I had a side of mac and cheese which was so good and my husband had the mashed potatoes, which were pretty good. We also split an order of sweet potato fries which were awesome. I don't expect much from a chain steakhouse. I do expect my order to be correct. I ordered prime rib carry out. I got a ribeye. I returned it and my order was corrected and I came back to my hotel. I ordered chicken tortilla soup with the original order. When I got back I realized I had potato soup. Seriously? Choice of 2 soups and that's messed up as well? This "steakhouse" was next door to my hotel in Waco so I figured, since The Elite Cafe is closed and Health Camp was 2 miles away, I would give it a shot. Where to start... How about this, people actually wait to eat here, they wait over an hour to pay 26 bucks for a 6 oz steak. Now, lets be clear, this is not Ruth's Chris, Del Frisco's, or Morton's, this is Saltgrass Steakhouse. After waiting for the coveted table, I waited 15 minutes for the server to bring a tiny loaf of previously frozen bread to a table of six. After devouring the tiny loaf, our drinks arrived in several different deliveries. After a swift order of over $200 worth of bad food, our salads and soups arrived. I have to say that the wedge salad is tasty, though I cannot figure why it cost and extra $2.95 as a "Premium side". However, Things were looking up, I had a small piece of bread, a sip of drink and a decent wedge salad going. What is the best way to ruin the situation? FIRE THE FOOD TOO EARLY!!!!!! My "steak" arrived 5-6 minutes after my $2.95 supplement salad! The server simply pushed my salad out of the way with my steak to force it in front of me! Same for the rest of my table! So far, I waited longer to get the table than I have for the entire meal!!! Slow Down Saltgrass!!! I know you want to turn tables but lets be realistic. I can only chew so fast! My three bites of Steak tasted identical to the HEB vacuum packed bacon wrapped tenderloin that I get 2 for 5 bucks in San Antonio. The only thing that you can taste is bacon. Thats fine for Denny's and IHOP, but this is a "Steakhouse". In the end, a friend I was with put it all i perspective, he said "Saltgrass is the Chili's of steakhouses" I have to disagree, Chili's is WAAAAYYYYYYY better than this place!! I guess that the throngs of people waiting to eat at places like Saltgrass, Olive Garden and Chili's every night appreciate whatever it is that these places serve. For me...... It's their first week and it was pretty impressive. Our server was excellent! Very attentive and knowledgable. The teamwork was great between all of the staff. It was my wife birthday! My daughter and son n law and myself. The wait was short after a short visit to the bar about10 minutes. After we were seated our waiter was nice. The appetizers came in approximately 15 minutes. Our main course did not arrive at all. We asked about our food no less than 4 times and were told it was coming out. We watched three tables of guest order, eat and leave before I requested a manager. After 40 minutes of waiting the mgr still insisted our order was on the way. It was disappointing at the least. My wife chose this location especially. She has eaten in Cedar Hill and Arlington and chose this drive from Dallas for her celebration to be treated poorly. I take no pleasure in writing a bad review. I hope this was not race related! We won't go back because it felt like we were treated poorly just because of our race. After reading other reviews I see a pattern. Most of the complaints are from people of color. This place is not friendly to people of color. read more
