Lol it needed to air out my girl said. Lol So the lady was so sweet and offered to take her mind off of falling. She brought out two ice creams with chocolate sauce on them. Exactly how my daughters would order. She was so awesome. I decided to stay and order dinner to go. It's nice to see intelligent kind women running the crew. I had her name in my head all day yesterday and today. Now as I write I am stumped. I know it will come to me. She was so great that I am looking forward to going back to Kemah. Good looking well kept restaurant but the quality of the thinly sliced Silver Star Porterhouse half an inch thick cut @ 22 OZ. certified angus is flavorless and chewy, although it was cook right medium rare and you can taste the mesquite smokiness of it. I can't complain much though since it was free. Caesar Salad - I thought the caesar salad was crunchy, a little acidic, and balanced with the salty parmesan slices. It's caesar salad... It wasn't overdressed and served as a nice appetizer! Pat's Ribeye - This was a mild let down, unfortunately. The steak was cooked to the right temperature (medium rare). The biggest issue with the steak was the distribution of fat. I think the fat around the ribeye should have been further rendered down. I ended up leaving aside much of the fat because there was just way too much for the steak. The butter they added on top did little to add to the flavor of the steak. I'm probably wrong, but it looked and tasted very similar to the butter that comes with the bread. There just wasn't enough bite from the butter to cut into the heaviness of the steak. Despite all of that, I still thought the steak was tender and cooked appropriately. Fully Loaded Mashed Potatoes - This was the most upsetting. The bacon bits and green onions were crispy. The biggest issue was the cheese. The cheese had hardened up by the time it arrived at our table. You could practically peel the cheese off. I'm not sure if it's me or the Landry's brand, but we rarely see things the same way, and my experience with this Saltgrass Steak House was no different. My wife has been a fan of Saltgrass for a few months. She ate at one in Dallas and then patronized the new location in Longview recently. She told me I'd have one of the best steaks of my life here. And since she doesn't read my Yelp reviews, I feel comfortable saying this: My wife was wrong. The atmosphere here is quite comfortable, albeit artificial feeling (like most other chains). The staff was nothing but polite. But I've seen better management in a den full of six-year-old Cub Scouts. Seriously. My wife and I were immediately seated upon arriving at this location, and promptly decided that the raucous table of 10-15 seated adjacently would not allow us to carry on a conversation. Our server was quick to move us into a different section. - Once there, she told us that someone else would be our server, since we were no longer in her section. No problem, except we had four different servers before the meal was over. Four servers. And that doesn't count the food runners and bus staff. If you've ever thought more is better, I implore you to try the whole four servers game and see what you think. At first, our drink orders doubled. Then we didn't know whom to ask for refills. Despite that everyone was as polite as can be, it turned into a cluster bomb. Strangely, the restaurant was not packed, and there were plenty of servers to go around. It all goes back to management and, as far as I'm concerned, we paid good money to be part of a Saltgrass Steak House circus act. On to the food... I had beer; my wife had a cocktail. Both were fine. We ordered the Cowboy Ribeye to share. After all, it's billed as this establishment's biggest steak. And I happen to love ribeye. The steak arrived at our table properly cooked (medium - which a lot of line cooks can't accomplish) with a sliver of a bone emerging from it. (See my photos.) Not exactly the 'bone-in' I'm accustomed to. When I order a big hunk of steak, such as a ribeye, I expect the bone to resemble something more than a clarinet reed. Otherwise, why bother? Interestingly, Saltgrass bills itself as "Texas to the bone!" The ribeye's flavor was average, at best. Not bad. Just not worthy of a *market price on the menu. The sides - baked potatoes and salad - also average. But the shrimp en brochette were a major disappointment. For those who don't know, shrimp en brochette are shrimp stuffed with cheese, then wrapped in bacon, grilled and basted with barbecue sauce. The shrimp for this recipe should be 21-26 count at the *smallest*. The Saltgrass version was at least 35-40 count (sized), and the shrimp were borderline mushy, which is evidence that they sat around for a while after being assembled for the line. Fail. If you read my reviews here, you know that I'm not exactly abusive in my tone. Neither do I have an ax to grind with Landry's brands. It's just that every experience at one of their restaurants seems to end up like this one: a major letdown. If only I'd known whom to flag down, they might've been able to help make our dinner experience one worth repeating. read more

My whole family and the kiddos always enjoy their food and no matter what we order it's always hot and fresh. My only con is the wait for food from time to time is long. Before I start, I am only reviewing THIS SGSH, and not any other within their franchise. Anyway, my fam has gone here for a while and the food up until now has pretty mediocre, not bad, but not excellent. So the other night we went in and my parents ordered a chicken fried steak to share, and I ordered chili and cornbread as an entree. When I ordered, I mostly wanted the cornbread. The waitress made no comments about the cornbread and took my order. She eventually came out with the chili and told me that the cornbread was discontinued, then didn't offer any substitutes. I asked--she ignored me, so I asked if we could have a discount since half the meal was not provided. She then went to ask about substitutions. I got soggy garlic bread. My parents asked for their steak to be cut in half and when they got it, my mother got almost all crust and barely any meat. Anyway, I spoke to the manager, but he only flashed a smile and gave me an answer that I felt was bull. I am not one that complains at restaurants much, if at all. No apologies or corrections were made other than the soggy garlic bread. But yeah, the waitress did seem as if she was going to just not even offer a substitute if I hadn't asked. Rarely does anyone write good reviews as compared to bad ones, but today I was very impressed! Our server, Joe-Rey, was beyond wonderful and his service was unmatched! After a long tiring day at work, dinner sounded good (like always) I am glad I chose this Saltgrass! Throughout the evening he made sure we were well taken care of and had everything we needed. He allowed my family to feel like a priority among his other tables as well. As a busy person who eats out often, I see a variety of experiences and today I was AMAZED! I paid a visit to the Clear lake, Tx Saltgrass location yesterday night to take full advantage of my Landrys birthday credit. Well I'm glad I did because it was truly a great experience. Not only was the service just amazing but I got a great steak too. So Kenzie was just an awesome spirited and very helpful waitress. She was eager to help and to make sure you were taken care off consistently throughout dinner. I can't say enough about her. Definitely will ask for her next time I go! The food - I got the Pats Ribeye 16 oz cooked to medium and sauteed onions and mushrooms on the side. The steak was cooked spot on and I was a little disappointed on the sauteed onions and mushrooms. The mushrooms were cut too small and the onions were cut in small pieces as well. It may be a personal preference but I prefer bigger pieces. Regardless, still added a little something to my meal. So I give the steak 4 out of 5 but the help just gave it a 5! Give Kenizie a raise!!! The salad did appear a little smaller in size but still same great taste with freshly ground pepper. However, they seemed to be staffed to the gills, though they looked like they were all frantic with the number of guests. After some doing, we managed to get our drink orders in followed by the starters. The appetizers came before the drinks did and the silverware came after the drinks. Everything was out of order and we ended up having a few other servers help us out without us asking. I think our main server was swamped with other tables. Food came out alright but the main standout for me was the tenderloin medallions. The filet was cooked just right and cut through like butter. I've been to several Saltgrass locations, always exceptional service and food. Tonight we went with a group, there were 6 of us. Zack was our server ( I like to give credit where credit is due) it was very busy, when he was at our table he made it seem as though we were his only customers. A few of us arrived early and ordered drinks, he suggested options we weren't aware of without feeling pressured. We ordered a couple appetizers and the rest of our party arived shortly after. Once the drinks were taken care of he checked back frequently until we were ready to order. I was a bit put off that a steak house didn't have an ample supply of one of their signature steaks (the 16oz Pat's ribeye) or the salmon filet hence the 4 stars instead of 5.... As I mentioned before the food was on point .... I chose the T Bone steak instead, it was grilled to perfection as well as the rest of the entrees. There were no complaints, nothing but good comments about the food, it did take a few extra minutes to get our salads, we weren't done with them when our entrees arrived but considering how busy they were it was understandable. Like a lot of places in Houston, this restaurant is in the middle of a highway. The facade is rustic-wild west style. Inside you'll appreciate heads and corpses of different wild animals. The sealing in the centre is tall, decorated with chandeliers, tv's and Texas flag. The waitress was super efficient, I got surprised of her strength and skills to attend a table of 7. I ordered one of the lunch specials, which included soup/salad, main dish, and one sider. I picked the ribeye with baked potato soup. When my cousin smelled the soup she wanted to order one as well, we ended up sharing it. It was so good!!! Big chunks of tender potato, cubes of crispy bacon, a touch of cheese, perfect seasoning, and lot of love (must try). I asked the rib eye to be medium rare (red middle part). It came perfectly executed, with the adequate amount of salt, juiciness, quality, well worth the ($16). The mash potatoes with garlic were average, nothing special. read more

For a big chain restaurant I was pleasantly surprised with my experience here at Salt Grass... first I came on a Friday night around 6:30pm and was able to catch a spot at the bar (works for me that's exactly where I wanted to be!) let me back peddle a second and mention that I literally hadn't been here in roughly three years. So I shuffled threw the salad picked out some choice pieces to eat with my croutons (which where yummy I couldn't pass those up drenched in ranch... ummm never) Saving grace: service - from start to finish was supper! Garlic mashed potatoes - they AINT playing those are some creamy, garlicky mashed potatoes... I really enjoyed the strong taste of garlic in them. They where very flavorful. Prime Rib - cooked perfect (medium rare) brought me out cream horseradish (a lot of places you have to ask) the only thing that was off putting was it (au jus) had a slight Rosemary seasoning which I'm a fan of Rosemary just not with prime rib IMO. Still didn't stop me from tearing it up! Overall a very enjoyable dinner. Looks like good happy hour menu so I will be back for that. We've been here a few times at lunch for their burger. We were seated promptly. The burger was good as usual but not much else. After we were seated it took a long time for the server to come to the table. From then on she was attentive, so I think the rest of the problems were with the kitchen. After she took our order it took a verrry long time for the burger to come. We'd begun to believe they'd forgotten about us or lost our order. When it finally came the fries were soggy and we'd asked asked they be cooked crisp. They had music that was way too loud. I would have given them two stars but the burger was good, so . . . . I had the 9oz Filet with Oscar topping, brussels sprouts, fried asparagus and the baked potato soup tons of food. Mine was ordered medium and cooked to perfection, a little crisp on the outside but oh so tender and melt in your mouth. My husband had the cowboy ribeye, grilled asparagus, and house salad.
