Great Tex-Mex food at a VERY reasonable price. The food was great, the ambiance was kitschy, and the service was prompt. There were 4 of us on a Saturday night at 8pm. There was no wait at the door, but the restaurant was filled. We ordered 4 different meals and 4 GIANT-ASS margaritas. The drinks were potent and very tasty. Food was on point, nothing out of the ballpark, but way above average. Could have been a bit more spicy for my liking, but for your average customer, it was probably fine. Sam's is way too crowded, with just so so food. It's not really anything more than boatloads of melted cheese on top of second- rate meat. They do have a good cooler with very cold beer. I'll give them that. read more

Came to the cape for two days, same here probably will never return. Ordered the fajitas and the rice and chicken was dry and didn't come with beans peppers or onions. I'm not usually impressed with Mexican food. This place was really good our server, MJ was outstanding. Great attitude, great recommendations and fantastic service. My co worker and I were in town and we decided to wing it when it comes to meals. The place looked pretty nice bs the name was a bit interesting. The meal I ordered was mostly Mexican but it did includes a 1/4 rack of ribs. I ordered it based on the Ribs because Mexican restaurants are mostly disappointing. I loved the polorito's that they have there. But I just got one take out. It was disgusting. I usually never complain but it sucks loving a dish and getting garbage. A tourist-centered restaurant with bad food and terrible service. On a recent visit with guests from out of town, we found a LIVE SPIDER in between our tacos. Not just on top of, but IN BETWEEN, meaning that it must have been in the kitchen. As if that wasn't enough to ruin a meal, when we informed our waitress, she didn't even bother informing the manager! We had to ASK for the manger AND ask for him to remove the taco from our bill and get us a new one. By that time, the spider and the service had spoiled everyone's appetite. Went here for a business event. Upon arrival the parking lot was packed, but I was pleasantly surprised to be seated quickly. Drinks are huge and delicious. Food is likewise on large platters and way too much to eat. When you go be sure to ask them to cut the portion in half so you can take home tomorrow's lunch. Great place to go for good food and lots of fun. The selection of food is wonderful and the staff are friendly for the most part. Sometimes the service can be slow though and you're never sure if you'll get a good, mediocre or bad waiter. Worst Mexican food that has ever graced my lips. I'm not gonna lie. I loled when I saw the sign "Sam Diego" but ITS A TRICK. The waitress was MISERABLE and clearly hates us, and her job. We requested gluten free chips. And they brought out cold stale Tostitos chips. Yum. Then we ordered fajitas. Which came out NOT SIZZLING. and by not sizzling I mean- it was a plate of ice. Tried this place last night. We called ahead for a party of 9 and they seated us upon arrival. The menu has a wide variety of typical Tex-mex food. Don't know why this place doesn't get better reviews. My family and I ate here twice this week and loved it. My boys, who are picky when it comes to Mexican, polished off every bite of their adult sized taco plates and wished we had the recipe for the meat seasoning. Prices are reasonable and we like the main bar area when you first come through the doors. We only going during the afternoons unless we are at a show at the tent. This is American Mexican food but it is a reasonable representation. Being there early or late we haven't had any service issues. My only complaint with this place is getting into the lot which is treacherous coming off the main road. read more

this was my mom and i's favorite restaurant while i was growing up. i always looked forward to cape trips knowing sam diego's was a definite spot. unfortunately the last few years and times i've been it's gotten worse each time. although the food might look good it was sub par at best and the margaritas tasted like there was no alcohol. the guacamole resembles the mini packs you can purchase at the grocery store (seriously sad coming from a mexican restaurant) my boyfriend got enchiladas that looked inedible and at that point we realized sam diego's could no longer be a favorite. a very sad realization to let go of a mexican favorite. 3/5 stars because it's a childhood memory! read more

Meh. First the good stuff; I love the decor of this restaurant and the outdoor patio during the summer months. In past years, Sam's was always a great meeting spot for late night margaritas. Parking is decent and location is right on Iyanough Rd in Hyannis. Easy to find if you're meeting friends. Now, the Not So Good Stuff. The past two times I have visited Sam Diego's I felt unimpressed. Last Saturday I went for dinner . We were a party of 3. We lucked out and there was no wait when we arrived, but that quickly changed. We were seated in an awkward middle of the aisle table... The booths are large and plenty of booths were available ; many of which were filled with only 2 guests. Not sure, maybe you need to request booth seating. The server was adequate. Some servers are personable, friendly, attentive, helpful, accommodating. I would not use any of these adjectives to describe our server. She did her job, but it ended there. We could have just as easily been waited on by a robot. The food was really nothing special. Nachos were undercooked. Quesadilla could have used a few more minutes in the oven as well(much better reheated) . The burrito was a sloppy mess and the Caesar salad had far too much dressing on it. Sam Diego's May be a cool place to visit if you are visiting Cape Cod, but The lack of quality in food and service was Not worth the price, in my opinion. Probably won't return any time in the near future. I will leave Sam Diego's for the tourists to enjoy. read more

Save yourself some money, gut rot and do not eat here. Sam Diegos is one of the worst places I've ever eaten. The salsa tastes like store bought Ragu with Oregano. The nachos were a pile of canned refried beans and spoiled chicken (With a ring of maybe 10 tortilla chips) so hopefully you requested extra chips. We got the "Big City" burrito which came "Smothered in Green Chile". Well let me tell you...It tasted like old green beans with a mouthful of Thyme or some kind of herb. The filling was reminiscent of dog food more than ground beef. Oh, and the Tortilla was completely raw and it wasn't rolled into a burrito. Went here for a girls night out with some friends from work expecting to have a good time. More like the opposite. The white trash family with screaming children was the start of the awful night, the horrible wait staff and below-average food took the cake. The waiter (Austin I believe) was honestly one of the worst experiences I have ever had with wait staff. We had to ask for our drinks 4 times and about twenty minutes later they finally arrived. We ordered an appetizer and he not only did he bring us the wrong order, we got charged for the more expensive item we ordered, AND he didn't even ask if we wanted to switch the incorrect app with the right one!! I have to agree with everyone else the food here is not good at all. My boyfriend an I had queso and tacos and we pretty much left 80% of our meal because it was so bland and tasteless. I felt bad for the waitress who was nice enough but she probably deals with this all the time there so instead of asking why we didn't eat anything she just brought the check. Being a journalist and reviewer by profession, I feel I am qualified to rate this restaurant a sorrowful 1 out of 5 Stars. Visiting family and the first time in Cape Cod, we decided to hit a local Mexican Restaurant. After all, how can you mess up basic Mexican fare or strawberry margarita's which is always fun before a meal. When we arrived we were told we had a 40 minute wait, which I thought was a good sign. Seated we were given a basket of small, cold and broken chips and salsa. We decided to try their 28 ounce Mango Margarita (no strawberry available). Served in a large stem glass, I would seriously doubt that it was 28 ounces, more like 16 ounce glass, I would guess. Not great, no hint of any tequila at all and way too sweet, hard to even drink. We ordered their steak fajitas which we simply assumed would be sizzling and served with onions and in some places green peppers on a steaming cast iron pan as is the case in every Mexican restaurant I have eaten in, including the chains like Chile's. After all the definition of Fajitas is grilled meat served on a flour or corn tortilla. This dish arrived on a plate and was ice cold slices of beef, some cold shredded cheese (looked like it was right out of the supermarket package), some beans and I believe rice with some cold tortilla's on the side. We were shocked to say the least and my wife took one bite of the beef and said this had to be pre-cooked and they simply put some on the plate. We called the waitress who was very nice and decided to send it back and order a salad with some grilled chicken. The replacement came after the three others in our party had finished our dishes and we waited for my wife to finish. I would think when a dish is sent back to the kitchen you push the replacement dish out the door quickly, especially since it was a salad with a piece of grilled chicken on the top. We were told they don't have grills in the front of the restaurant and couldn't cook some of the dishes because of this. To me this is simply a pre-made food restaurant, my dish also tasted like chicken that was not made fresh. I would say this was one of the worst imitation Mexican Restaurants I have eaten in and simply can't imagine how they have stayed in business so long. Do all residents of Cape Cod settle for this low quality food at all eateries, simply because they don't know any better. With the lack of decent competition here, I would imagine even this low quality restaurant can thrive. I know that if I wanted to really make money I could open an authentic Mexican Restaurant right across the road and be an instant hit. Don't bother to go here, you have been warned. read more

I used to LOVE this place, it fed me throughout high school (when I may or may not have been cutting class) , throughout my marriage (18 years), through two pregnancies and much more.... But somewhere in the past few years it has nosedived into a flimsy shadow of its former self. Once again we went for our special day and we're treated very poorly. Our waitress routinely ignored us, drinks went empty and sitting, people who arrived after us were served before us. When our food finally came my husbands was barely warm!! We asked for jello shots three times, they were never served to us. Perhaps it was just us since she seemed more willing to attend to other patrons. Okay so I go probably end up here maybe 5 or 6 times a year. I have to say the food quality is about average for a restaurant of this size and location. My Dad and I usually split an appetizer and from there its an entrée my dad likes their burritos or this steak special with rice. last visit is why I'm giving it 3 stars overall. First we got buffalo fingers for an appetizer and they were soggy not very appealing overall. For dinner my Dads chicken enchilada was pretty decent and he usually takes part of it home. my burger was pretty tasty the only two issues were the buffalo fingers and the server we had was obviously more concerned with what she was doing after work and grumbling to another server how another server got a couple of bigger tables than her. read more

The taco bar lunch special is fantastic! The ground beef is moist & flavorful. I enjoyed being able to put as many toppings as I wanted. I tried the chili & both the beef-potato & cream of chicken-mushroom soups. The chili was good but fairly standard. Both of the soups were amazingly good! The cream of chicken-mushroom actually had chunks of both so I'm sure it was homemade. No rice or beans in the buffet but there was some decent coke slaw, fresh pineapple & chicken salad as well as spring mix & a few things to make a green salad. The icing on the cake was the muffins! Not sure what flavor they were. Possibly apple cornbread but they were seriously delicious! I'm from the west coast & know good Mexican food. While this is a bit Americanized vs. "authentic," it was darn good & a great bargain. The chips & salsa were pretty good & the decor was awesome.
