Sam Jones BBQ was a great stop, and all four of us really enjoyed it. I went with my partner and two friends, and everyone liked the place. We sat down in the dining room after finding menus. After deciding what we wanted, we got in line to place our order. The line moved somewhat slowly but after ordering, it did not take long for the food to come out. I had the Sam Jones Sandwich with potato salad and added a side of mac and cheese. My partner ordered the ribs with collard greens and fries. Everything we ordered was very good, and everyone at the table was happy with their meal. There were a couple of minor service details that could have been better. They put a roll of paper towels on the table, but ours was empty. I also noticed after the fact that our table had two bottles of the sweet BBQ sauce, while other tables appeared to have both the sweet sauce and a more vinegary BBQ sauce. That was a little disappointing because I really did not care for the sweet sauce and wish I had known there was another option before I had already eaten most of my sandwich. Those were small issues, though. Overall, the food was excellent, the experience was enjoyable, and I would definitely go back.

Coming off of the excitement from the Michelin recognition, I was excited to try this place with some friends on a Sunday evening. What I can say is that it is authentic. By the time we were there on a Sunday evening, they had run out a lot of things, which makes sense since it is all fresh. I ended up getting a bbq chicken BLT sandwich with their mac & cheese, and it was all good. But it didn't stand out to me compared to the other bbq places we have in the Triangle. I would say if you're in the area and craving bbq, this is a good option.

Salad and brisket plate - corn bread?

Brisket was amazing! I had it on top of my fresh crisp salad. R had a plate with sides. Coleslaw was delicious. Sat outside with lights and golden early evening light. Service was so quick! Okay - the cornbread was odd, maybe a "hoe cake" the guy who took our order tried to warn us . He guided my husband to a delicious sweet potato muffin. It was a great introduction to Raleigh!

I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and it was juicy and delectable. Had it with the vinegar and the sweet bbq sauce, pickles and a side of beans. The bbq beans had a good flavor but I added vinegar and bbq sauce to them and it made them even better! Made an Arnold Palmer with the pink lemonade and sweet tea. The service was fast and friendly. Got a lot of extra pickles and we loved them. They have Cheerwine soda which I just tried for the first time and it was really fun.

The BBQ here was 10/10. What makes it 10/10 you ask? First of all, the ribs were tender and flavorful! Also, I love a bbq spot where the sides are equally as good. Their Mac and cheese was creamy and fresh and collards greens were amazing! Lastly, on a beautiful day, the patio was a perfect spot to devour all this food lol. Oh lastly, amazing portion sizes! I was able to have lunch and dinner!

I eat here as often as I can, love Sam Jones BBQ...and the cornbread controversy: it's the best out there. Reminds me of my grandmother's cast iron skillet cornbread as she was from eastern NC. Crusty, thin, dense & not sweet. Sure wish I'd learned how she made it but Sam's is the closest. I don't care for thick, crumbly or sweet cornbread, Sam's does it right. Tasty, dense & legendary. I get two slices every time I go and I'd get more if it didn't turn into a shingle! The only comparable sides would be hush puppies or the fried corn sticks mentioned in another review, love eastern NC fried corn sticks ... keep up the great work, Sam, already looking forward to my next Raleigh road trip! Pete's legacy lives on...

Was raining and getting late so I decided to Uber the food. The sweet tea was dare I say too sweet. I've been looking forward to some good sweet tea all trip and when I finally found some, it was just too sweet and I have a sweet tooth too so it was disappointing. I got the two meat plate - ribs were good and tender; chopped bbq was mediocre at best. I was missing the sweet sauce so maybe this isn't a fate assessment. I tried to complain to uber but didn't get any resolution. Anyways, the meats were good but nothing mind blowing. Maybe I had high expectations. The coleslaw was good but there was just something about it that was a little off putting. Maybe it was the bits of kale that were overpowering? Not sure but overall just ok. My other side was fruit and it was surprisingly good. I normally don't like honeydew but it was really good. Overall, I'm glad I tried the place and maybe it would have been better in the restaurant.

Solid barbecue, but go for the sweet potato rolls, not the cornbread. Of course, Sam Jones BBQ is most famous for their Lakeview Inn location, But you can get you fix here in Raleigh. The family platter is quite economical for 4 people. We fed 4 people with leftovers for only $65. The collards are good, the mac and cheese is also good. The cornbread had no leavening, so it's a bit like hard tack. I suggest going with the rolls, instead. You order at the counter and they give you a placard and deliver your food quickly. So that was great.

The ambiance was nice and felt very country. Service was excellent. Food was okay. I will say heed the warning they give you when you order food that the cornbread is not your average cornbread... it is most definitely not, i dont know how that hard piece on the whatever it was could be classified as cornbread. Definitely need to take it off the menu. The BBQ and the sauces they offered were good and have no complaints. Wasn't amazing, but wasn't bad either. The Mac n cheese was grainy, I know some may like that. Overall not too bad, I would eat again. However, I would get different sides as my husbands French fries were good.

We stopped in for our first visit to Sam Jones BBQ at 502 W Lenoir Street, Raleigh for dinner last weekend and left fully satisfied and plotting our next visit. Service was on point (attentive, suggestive, and helpful). The space felt super clean, almost brand‑new even though it isn't. The food absolutely hit the spot! Packed with flavor: mac&cheese, simply outstanding; pulled pork so delicious (you don't even need the added sauce); catfish bites, super tasteful and plump. Fries were cut, seasoned and cooked to perfection. I even ordered a second helping of those. Everything that needed slow‑cooked T.L.C. was done with slow-cooked T.L.C. Draft and bottle beer selection fairly sizable, a full bar onsite actually, or just grab a quick fountain drink. Plenty of indoor seating, and even outdoor seating with canopy covers (for when it's not 90+). We'll for sure be back. Just a matter of finding the right time.

First visit of 2025 - Halved a BBQ pork sandwich with slaw on the side

Love Sam Jones BBQ. We actually visited twice in our quick three day trip to Raleigh. Over the last for years we have eaten here half a dozen times. Always get the same meal BBQ...the whole hog pork. This time was not different just amounts. First visit we ordered a pork sandwich with coleslaw on the side(we split it as we were having dinner with family a couple hours later. The next day we brought our nephew and we ordered a pound of BBQ pork, a pint of coleslaw and a pint of potato salad. The big platter of food arrived and it was just as beautiful as our BBQ pork sandwich the day before. Our nephew tasted the pork and said "Oh My, this is delicious." Needless to say we had no leftovers. The pork was some of the best whole hog pork in the area that we have tried. Love the little pieces of the cracklings mixed into the pork which give that bite and extra special taste. The Sam Jones BBQ sauces are wonderful. The ENC vinegar based sauce only enhances the bbq itself. The potato salad is very good but the COLESLAW takes the cake. Oh, I wish that served both this style BBQ pork and coleslaw in the Atanta area. Service was outstanding. Costs of the food were very reasonable especially for the quality of the products. Both visits the place was crowded. Might be a small line to order but the wait is worth it. Now we might have to have it shipped and I will test it to see how good it travels. Highly recommend.

With a walk up counter to order and no wait, we were excited to try Sam Jones after it was recommended to us a few times. The meats we tried (smoked Buffalo wings, turkey and pulled pork bbq, were all great with the turkey as the clear stand out for juiciness and flavor. The sauces on the table had interesting spice and liquid combinations, neither of which I thought were a value add to the meat. It's quaint and cute inside and also offers outdoor seating. There are also a variety of salts and rubs you can purchase to bring home. The sweet potato roll was a nice moist bread that didn't give a distinct sweet potato flavor, but was fun to try as a corn bread alternative.

I am compelled to remind every resident and every visitor to make this a "must go to and enjoy" place for either brunch on Saturday or Sunday, or for dinner any night of the week. Go for the amazing cuisine, vast wine list, and stay for the outstanding service! Recently, we have found ourselves trying not to enjoy just our go-to favorites that are mainstays on the ever-evolving menu. We have been blown away by the flavors of the large plate option called Chicken Pimientos. Don't let the name throw you, because it's not super spicy, it just has a nice kick to it with delicious potatoes accompanying the very moist and flavorful chicken. The way the kitchen team at Barcelona handles the preparation of the eggplant caponata is impressive and very unique. Other favorites on the tapas section of the menu recently are stuffed piquillos, corn zucchini bunuelos (think fair food turned healthy!), Wagyu carpaccio, lamb kofta, and pulpo gallego. Remember that their tapas offerings rotate in and out, oftentimes based on the season and availability of fresh products. The wine offerings are unparalleled in the city of Raleigh, and when you visit for dinner on a Monday evening, every bottle is half-priced. Can't beat that for a way to jump-start your work week! We tend to sit at the bar on most visits as bartenders Kira and Cameron truly handle their bar with a welcoming vibe and impressive ease. General manager Jed is a visible leader of this great team and makes every guest feel appreciated. Awesome job all the way around!

We shared a glass of cava, which was crisp and delicious. I chose the aperitivo board and my husband ordered the paella mariscos. My husband lived in Spain for a while so he had high hopes for the paella; alas, it was very salty and the calamari was missing. It was so salty that we only had one or two bites. I keep telling my husband that he just shouldn't order paella in the US anymore. The manager was extremely accommodating and offered many options to help! The aperitivo board was divine. The items were bursting with flavors. My favorites were the marcona almonds, the aged manchego, and the potatas bravas. The table bread and oil were also fresh and delicious. There was another dish that I'm not sure if we ordered or if it was included, but the fish flavor was too strong for me so I passed on that. My husband enjoyed it though. I'd love to try some different menu options for our next visit.

It felt like the perfect introduction to one of our favorite restaurants. I booked a reservation ahead of time, and everything was ready for us upon arrival. When we walked in, the host stand was briefly unattended, but within moments someone appeared, confirmed our reservation, and escorted us to our table. While our seating wasn't my favorite in the dining room, I decided not to make a special request. Instead, we settled in and let the evening unfold. Our server, Peyton, immediately elevated the experience. She was kind, thoughtful, and enthusiastic about the menu. Rather than simply listing favorites, she described dishes as "the perfect balance" and "the perfect combination," making each recommendation feel intentional. Her guidance led us toward pairings of small plates and cocktails that complimented one another beautifully. The atmosphere did just as much storytelling as the menu. Our friends couldn't stop admiring the signature candles slowly melting down the walls, while the leather-bound drink menus sparked conversation before we had even placed our order. As dinner progressed, a summer rain began to fall outside, encouraging us to linger a little longer over another round of conversation. We ordered several dishes to share, and the cauliflower, brisket croquettes, and cheesecake dessert easily became the standouts of the evening. Each plate was thoughtfully prepared and ideal for passing around the table, exactly the kind of meal that encourages everyone to take "just one more bite." The only dish that didn't quite live up to previous visits was the Calabrian chicken wings. I've always enjoyed them here, but this time they leaned a bit overcooked, and the sauce seemed slightly different from what I remembered. It was a small disappointment in an otherwise consistently strong meal. By the end of the evening, our friends completely understood why Madre had become one of our go-to spots. Between the inviting atmosphere, attentive service, and thoughtfully executed menu, it remains a restaurant I wouldn't hesitate to recommend for a dinner with people you enjoy lingering over a meal with.

We dined at their lovely bar back in the first months of their opening, and it was good. We had met the general manager, Red, and were impressed with the flavors of our one appetizer, Calabrian Chicken, yet we never rushed back. Now, we feel compelled to return ASAP to enjoy these exceptional flavors, fabulous teamwork system of service, and a comfortable chic atmosphere. The place was happening at 5:45 pm on our recent dining night out with friends. Grateful to have a reservation we were seated at a very comfortable banquette type of seating. It felt like dining in a friend's home. Our server, William, is excellent at his job. Very efficient, great input on food choices, and quite personable. The meal started off with a burst of flavor as we enjoyed their fairly new offering of a ceviche called Eye of the Tiger that featured a sauce you can never get enough of. Wish their bread service was a bit more inspired, but the Le Farm bread did soak up some of the various sauces sent out from a very inspired kitchen team. Food runners help make certain the tapas come out fresh and hot when needed. They are a friendly group of hospitality workers who seem to genuinely enjoy their work and treat their guests with sincere appreciation. It all starts at the top, and GM Red is a personable and sound leader. We loved the Chef's pasta, our octopus dish was stellar, the Calabrian Chicken almost stole the show, but the unctuous flavors on the plate of the Seared Halloumi was hands down my favorite. I love how this culinary team can crank out such outstanding flavors table to table and patron to patron without missing a beat. The energy in the room must feed their souls & for that we are grateful. Lastly I wish to mention the thoughtfully curated wine list where my husband discovered a treasure of a wine from the Familia Torres brand. It was exquisite and paired perfectly with Madre's flavors. Our friend who frequent their bar often rave about their Mezcal margarita! Another visit. See you soon Madre familia!

Good service in a surprisingly well decorated atmosphere, I would come back to Flour & Barrel for more Italian goodness! The Deets: I wanted to catch up with a friend over a weekday lunch and we scoped out Flour & Barrel in DTR to do just that. When entering in from the pretty nondescript exterior/entrance on the corner of North and Harrington Streets, it becomes a colorful well decorated bistro/bar type feeling inside which is welcoming. We were shown to our table next to one of the wide windows facing North St, I liked this table with lots of natural light and yes, I am a people watcher as well. The server took our drink orders and asked if we had any questions about the menu. The lunch menu is pretty succinct but well represented, offering focaccia sandwiches (sandos), small pastas (pasta handmade in-house), and salads. It also has a wine and craft beer selection also if needed. My friend went with the Chicken Parmesan Focaccia Sando (has pomodoro, mozzarella, and basil) with Kardashian Chopped Salad (made with romaine, salami, provolone, piquillo peppers, artichoke, and garbanzo) for a side while I chose the Radiatore small pasta selection. The Radiatore is described on the menu as "our version of carbonara but creamier / guanciale / egg" so naturally it caught my eye. I am usually pretty cut and dry about wanting carbonara to be the traditional type but since they stated upfront that this is their version, I was willing to give it a go. I am glad I did, as this pasta dish was great. The serving was the perfect size for lunch, plus I was able to add chicken to it as well. The sauce was creamy and delicious, going well with the al dente pasta. This meal was most satisfying and I would love to get this one again in the future. My friend really enjoyed the sando so much, he had originally planned to eat half and take the other half home...that didn't work out the way he planned as he devoured the whole sandwich there, it was that good. He also enjoyed the salad as well. Our server did well checking on us and making sure we had what we needed. I am so glad we decided to try out Flour & Barrel for lunch, it worked out perfectly and was a very enjoyable meal.

Unfortunately, the experience started off badly and only got more frustrating. Our reservation was for 7:15 PM, and although we were running a little late because it was pouring rain, we called ahead and were told our reservation would still be held. When we arrived, we were told to wait for a table to become available. This was already a little frustrating because there was an entire row of tables visibly unoccupied. After waiting 30 minutes, we were still sitting at the bar with no updates. At that point, it started feeling really disorganized. As more time passed, my friends went up to the hostess stand multiple times trying to get answers about what was going on, but the hostesses were rude and not helpful at all. By the time we were finally seated, 1 hour and 15 minutes had passed after our reservation time, which is honestly unacceptable when you have a reservation. At that point, we were considering just leaving. The service once seated was also not great. The food was okay, but definitely not enough to make up for the poor experience overall. If a restaurant has such limited space, I don't think they should overbook reservations if they can't actually seat guests close to their reserved time. No one wants to wait over an hour after making a reservation, especially for a special occasion like a birthday. I really hope management sees this and improves their reservation system and customer service, because this was a disappointing way to spend a birthday celebration.

We celebrated a special occasion with a phenomenal meal at Saap. For an appetizer, we tried the…read morenightly small plate special, two steamed rice paper wrappers filled with ground pork with a mildly sweet sauce, to start the meal. It was very, very good and started our meal off on a high note. For entrees, my dining companion had the pork collar and I chose the Khao Poon Gai. The pork collar was absolutely phenomenal with a deep marinated flavor and perfect char, while my dish was incredibly flavorful from the coconut broth and the grilled chicken. I got to sample the pork collar and will order it the next time we're here. Dessert was a bit of a letdown. We split the carrot cake and found it OK, at best. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't at the same level as the rest of our meal. I would not order this again. Service was outstanding. Our server was friendly, helpful, and clearly knowledgeable about the menu. The kitchen turned over our orders very quickly. Combined with the great service, the tastefully decorated modern dining room made our meal memorable. Highly recommended. We'll be back.

It's the kind of place where you can tell a lot of thought goes into how each dish is built. Every bite had so much flavor and nothing felt repetitive or expected. What stood out just as much as the food was the service. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and took the time to walk us through the menu, explain different dishes, and help us decide what to try. The ambiance ties it all together. It strikes that perfect balance of being elevated but still relaxed. It feels like a place you can come to wind down at the end of the day, but also somewhere you'd confidently bring friends who are visiting and want to show them a great spot. This is definitely a place I'll be coming back to. There are so many other dishes I already want to try, which is always the best sign.

I do not frequent restaurants on Glenwood Ave often, but as a picky pescetarian/vegetarian/vegan…read morereviewer, I had to try this new Vegan spot. You may have been to its sister restaurant, Element Gastropub before. This restaurant is located in the Glenwood south neighborhood. There are several garages nearby and street parking. The decor lends itself to a botanical theme which is on brand for a vegan restaurant with its floral murals and hanging plants. The bar has beautiful emerald green tile and comfortable brown upholstered stools. Brass and bronze accents are appreciated throughout the space also. The owner stated the color palate was inspired by the Wizard of Oz. They have an extensive craft cocktail menu. We ordered the Tropic ozz and Blue dream. Neither disappointed on depth of flavor. For meals, we ordered the Whiskey cola rib plate and the Sriracha hunee chikn. The rib plate did not disappoint. The rib had the texture of a tender steak and the BBQ sauce was just enough to not take over the dish. The squash pickles have a bit of kick, but was not overpowering. The potato salad had a great balance of mustard and vegan mayo. The Sriracha dish was also delicious, but could have used more sauce which the owner happily supplied. Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The menu offers enough even for indecisive eaters and everything that we ordered was delicious. The food was filling. The only downside was that we came on a Saturday night and there was only one waiter. Despite being the only front house staff, he maintained a positive attitude and gave great service. We were seated and attended to quickly.

To my delight (and theirs!), no one was disappointed as the food arrived. The restaurant wasn't overly packed, and the staff was excellent, offering great suggestions. I ended up ordering the chicken and waffles, which were absolutely delicious. I'll definitely be back to try more dishes!
