Someone in our group had read some bad reviews so we were a little apprehensive. But our experience was amazing, I even told the waiter we were apprehensive; she was amazing. The amount of food you get is way too much for one person, I don't think any of us came close to finishing our meal. The omelets are huge and we got to adjust what we wanted on them. The home fries are a must. We also got a chocolate muffin that was to die for, so rich and so good. I'm not a ham type of person but you have to get the ham and cheese quiche, we were basically fighting over it it was so good. The owner came over and talked to us explained how they make everything from scratch, we talked about the bad reviews he was a great guy, very personable asked where we were from, told us about his son, just some small talk. Then later before we left his wife also came over and talked to us as well. Very tight knitted staff and I can't believe anyone could say anything bad about the place. They could however use some work on the bathrooms. But overall our experience was amazing and we left with plenty of leftovers. If I lived in Tampa I would probably be a regular. read more

Great find for breakfast in downtown Tampa. Not far from the Riverwalk and Curtis Hixon Park. Very friendly and welcoming owner and staff. Lots of "regulars" appeared to be dining. I stopped here for lunch on my first day in Tampa at the recommendation of my hotel front desk. It was in walking distance from The Aloft hotel I was staying at. Typical cafe look and atmosphere. Super friendly staff! The cook, who delivered my food out is also I think the owner. A very proud and friendly man. I ordered the Mediterranean salad and added chicken. Absolutely heavenly and priced inexpensively. You can eat curb side or inside. The menu has plenty of options for any taste but heavily represents their Mediterranean roots! I came into town on business and searched for local cafes with eggs Benedict and saw some good reviews and wanted to try it out thinking this would be great; however the turn came on myself, I ordered the (as it was spelled on the menu) Krab eggs Benedict and got it the the hollandaise sauce had no seasoning and the crab meat was packaged imitation crab meat from Walmart and to top it off my hash browns had a hair in it and the staff said oh that's not a hair that's from the grill brush!!!!! And decided to take the hash browns off my ticket only even though it was all on the same plate with the hair. And I ate maybe 6 bites off the Benedict!!! Would not recommend this place at all!! Great diner spot for breakfast or lunch. I cam last weekend with a few friends for brunch, and we had an excellent experience. Food is a perfect balance between gourmet (homemade quiche and muffins!) and comfort foods (typical omelettes, pancakes, waffles, and sandwiches). Extensive selection so there is something for everyone. Our server was super sweet and attentive. They have a pastry counter too if you want something yummy to go! I want to be emphatic when saying this was probably, no, definitely.. the worst dining experience I've ever had in my entire life. Waited an hour to be seated on a 30 min wait and we were even willing to split our 6 top into 2, 3 tops. Instead they seated everyone before us until finally a big enough table opened up. Then after being seated we waited another 15-20 minutes before a waiter/ess even acknowledged us. After putting in all of our drink and food orders it then took another 15 mins to receive only waters when some of us ordered easy fountain drinks (the coke came out of an almost empty 2 liter bottle I watched get poured) and then another 30 mins to get the coffees. When we finally Got our food nearly another 45 minutes later it wasn't hot or prepared right and one of our party members didn't even receive their food because it wasn't submitted back in the kitchen. All in all don't come Here the manager is unfair and very unprofessional, unable to manage a small restaurant with an easy breakfast menu. Tampa has many other options I encourage to choose another one (like first watch for instance) And my eggs Benedict was some of the worst I've had and the eggs were honestly raw.... We arrived just after 9:30 on Sunday morning. The restaurant has a sign saying wait to be seated so we stood, without acknowledgement from many staff for a few minutes. Even a glance and "we'll be with you shortly" would have helped. Once a server came over, we were quickly seated outside. Our actual server came a few minutes later and took our drink and food order. A few minutes after that, our drinks came out and we expected our food shortly after as it was a fruit parfait, and eggs, bacon, and pancakes. The rest of the outside tables started filling up. It wasn't until tables who arrived 10-15 minutes after us started getting their food that we realized something probably happens with our order. Since our server never came to check on us after dropping our drinks, we flagged someone else down. She said she'd check on our food. About 5 minutes later, our server finally checked in, apologized and mentioned something about pancakes, and then disappeared inside again. 10 minutes later our food finally showed up as tables who had arrived after us were getting their boxes and checks. The food itself was fine, but the service is what really did this place in. Overall, the prices were good, but we would not return. read more

I was a regular until today. I ordered a kid's meal based on prices on samariacafe.com, which shows $5.99. I go to pick up my order, they're charging $7.49. I called and told Georgia that the website showed $5.99. Had I known that, for .50 more, I would've ordered a full meal! No one cares that it comes with a soda. The order was a piece of toast, one mediocre egg and one sad piece of bacon. After she was finished debating with her husband what the price was, I was pretty much told, oh well - that's what the price is and I'm the only person whose ever complained. I went back online to double-check and sure enough, $5.99. I call back - it's not about the $2 at this point. She says with an attitude, well - I don't know about the computer. I've never heard of this hidden gem, but when I met two friends for lunch, they suggested we go here. Inside its a typical family owned restaurant. The owner greeted us and recognized my two friends who come there often. The menu has a little bit of everything-breakfast, lunch, salads, sandwiches Etc. I was told the Samaria salad was the way to go. Basically it's a greek salad with gyro meat, minus the potato salad. The portion was massive and the dressing was wonderful. The feta cheese was a stingy portion too, so the fillings was lost int he voluminousness egg mass and I had to hunt for it.The side of link sausage was obviously dropped in the deep fryer, extremely fatty, or both. Our server was not attentive. I asked for host sauce, she offered two choices, A & B. I chose B, she brought A, after several minutes. Having waited to eat I used what she brought, I could not be sure when she might appear again. The worst was waiting to pay for 15 minutes after the bill was presented. The waitress was idle talking to other staff and was expert a not making eye contact even with prodigious hand and arm waving. My husband and I read the reviews and looked at the food pictures before deciding to have a late breakfast here. I ordered the krab Benedict which received rave reviews. I, however, took one bite and couldn't stomach it. The eggs had a funny taste (like they poached old eggs) and the hollandaise was very sour. Our server was understanding and was nice enough to remove it from our bill which was appreciated. The hash browns were cold and bland. Samaria is a reasonably priced diner in downtown Tampa with decent food and huge portions. During my four visits, I have ordered the Eggs Benedict, the Country Benedict, the Samaria Salad, and the Greek Salad. The giant Eggs Benedict is only $6.99 and comes with a side of hashbrowns, fries, grits, or tomato slices. The four tomato slices are always giant and fresh. Samaria's Hollandaise sauce is a bit vinegary for me but still pretty good in small portions. The delicious, giant Country Benedict, a dollar more expensive, includes sausage patties and creamy sausage gravy and comes with the same side options. The Samaria Salad is a gyro salad with a delicious Samaria-special Greek dressing. The only difference between the Samaria Salad and the Greek Salad is that the Samaria Salad includes gyro meat and the Greek Salad includes a scoop of potato salad. Both the gyro meat and the potato salad are delicious. Otherwise, both salads include iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pepperoncini, feta cheese, green peppers, red onions, and pita wedges. The iceberg lettuce is always bland but fresh. The four pita wedges are sizable, chewy, and delicious. For me, a salad ($7.49 for Greek and $8.99 for Samaria) here is always at least 1.5 meals. In addition to the food, a few advantages of Samaria is that the restaurant is spacious (at lunch, the restaurant is always bustling, but I rarely have to wait for seating) and that the waiters are attentive and kind (I had a different waiter during each of my four visits). Also, the service is fast, which is great if you have only an hour for lunch. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more
