Overall, not a bad first visit to this classic and popular downtown breakfast/lunch cafe. It started rocky - we walked in, said Hello to a woman standing at the front host stand who turned out to be an owner. We were ignored. She did not acknowledge us and instead skipped over our heads and welcomed the couple who entered behind us. The couple were greeted warmly, as if regulars, and promised a seat right away. We stood there, waiting for a few minutes until the lady came back from seating them to finally act like were even there. It sounds like this place is owned by a husband-wife duo, and I don't know about the husband but the lady at the front, running operations, is inappropriate and unprofessional. Aside from our first-hand experience with her, she spoke poorly of her own employees to other employees working that day. Our table was directly adjacent to the host stand, so we heard all of it. I appreciate candidness and honesty in a manager/owner, but this lady's attitude was terrible, bad-mouthing her own staff - and publicly enough, loud enough for some customers to hear. Fortunately, our server was much more pleasant, professional, friendly and helpful. He was quick on his feet and just casual enough for a cafe like this one. The food was good, and perfect portions. My family ate here today for the first time. My husband had heard good things about the food and we were downtown looking for somewhere to eat. The first place we wanted to eat at was closed for the holidays, and I'm glad they were! This is not a fancy looking place at all. I was surprised how delicious the food was. Everyone we ate with today enjoyed their meal. The Greek salad was so good! This place has an old diner, family feel. It is big and spacious with a good size table. The owner, Steve, was so nice to us. He came over and talked to us for a bit. The hostess (not sure of her name), was just as kind and welcoming. This place is great! We stopped here for brunch while visiting from out of town and had a great experience. I ordered the bacon omelette with a biscuit and it was HUGE! Very very good! Everything made with LLOOOOVVVEEE!!! Local business with all the diner charm. I got the gyro omelet and it even came with tzatziki sauce... yummy! The French toast came with New York sourced challah bread. The Benedict's have light and airy hollandaise sauce. - And the lattes had specially picked beans and a great Italian espresso maker. Downtown cubicle dweller who has to spin the "wheel 'o' lunch" on a daily basis, which, on occasion, has landed on Samaria Cafe. As one of my fellow office mates said on their first visit, "I feel really weird ordering a Philly cheesesteak at a Greek restaurant." That sort of sums up the Samaria. Truly hit or miss on the food. A chicken salad was "meh", the gyro wrap was good but lacked adequate Tziki (sp?) sauce, and when more was requested we were informed it was an upcharge. For a tablespoon of sauce? Really? The place is like a scene out of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding", which does add some entertainment value to your visit, for sure. If you're looking for entertainment with your meal, that is. Anyway, the crowning glory was that two of my cubicle mates got their credit/debit cards compromised after dining here - on two different occasions. That's a coincidence that's just too odd to ignore. Lesson learned - if you eat here, pay cash. read more

Are you a connoisseur of exotic breakfast cuisine? If so, come here, to this cryptically dubbed abode called "Samaria Cafe," ensconced in the middle of downtown Tampa. Exotic breakfast, indeed. Eggs that don't resemble eggs; potatoes that don't resemble potatoes. The eggs taste as though they are poured out of some depressing container the size of a gigantic detergent box and the "hash browns" are the accumulated and lifeless dregs of what was once, many eons ago, a potato, and now merely a substitute for the dry shoelaces that cover one's feet. And the coffee is more watery than water itself. Someone in one of the reviews lauded the coffee as "amazing." Obviously, that person hates coffee and you will never find that person in Starbucks or Panther or Intelligentsia, but will find her busily stocking up on Folger's instant crystals at the local Walmart. Look at the proffered photos for this place. Scrupulously observe the "omelets." They look monstrous, thick, bleak, and gross. Those who praise Samaria obviously either don't like food or have never tasted good breakfast cuisine. For those yearning for something that tastes twice (nay, thrice) as good and half as expensive as Samaria's omelets, please walk yourselves to Yolk, White and Associates in between the Bank of America building and the Hillsborough River. I should have known from the mildew smell when you first walk in to turn around and pick a different location. The food was horrible. I ordered a salmon salad and the salmon was rubber and clearly processed.The oatmeal was also disgusting and dry. When we told the waiter about the horrible food she explained that in fact it was processed fish. When we expressed our disappointment and that we would not be returning, we were told " that's okay"..... As a business owner myself , I was shocked to hear and experience this service. Excellent for breakfast. Cristi had the gyro omelet and I had the kielbasa and eggs. Very generous portions and great service. I was really impressed with the gyro meat, and the omelet was probably the fluffiest thing since pillows. Kielbasa was grilled perfectly. Give this place a try!! read more

So I went to Samaria cafe based on yelp recommendations and kinda stumbling upon the place. I really wanted to go to first watch but my walk brought me here. Was surprised by the diner vibe here. I was here purely for the out but got a sense of the place quick. The person taking my take out order did not seem too happy. It took almost 20 mins for them to prepare the cheapest and easiest thing on the menu. Saw the guy using bare hands and no gloves to prepare bf sandwiches. Not cool. Outstanding! I came here on Saturday with a group of friends after leaving the St. Patrick's Day festive at the river. My friends and I happened upon here trying to get away from the crowds of the festival. We were all hungry and had kids with us. From the second we walked to to the second we left the experience was great! We were welcomed with friendly hellos and smiles. They were able to get all of us and the kids seated right away. Our server was so sweet. Everything on the menu looked amazing! I ended up getting the Philly which was delicious! They came with homemade chips that were out of this world! Everything that everyone else got looked great too and they all enjoyed their meals. I live in Clearwater and I'll definitely make a trip back over just to come here.
