I LOVE Asian foods of all kinds. I was a bit disappointed at the dishes here. We had the Thai iced tea, I know, I'm lame. It had a very strong tea flavor--almost bitter, which tells me they did not add enough cream or condensed milk. We had the paratha appetizer. The paratha was delicious, soft, fluffy. I comes with a small curry potato dipping sauce which was aromatic and probably the best thing I had all night. I wish there was more of it. Ran out of dipping sauce before I finished the paratha. For dinner we had the green curry, and the drunken noodles. The green curry was very spicy, but that's subjective, but the veggies were unevenly cooked. Some eggplant pieces were almost raw, some were too soft. There were a lot of veggies, not as much green curry sauce. The "jasmine rice" was bleh. The drunken noodles were much better. The noodles were soft and chewy and wide. There was plenty of chicken. The main issue as mentioned in all of the reviews is the price to portion ratio. Thai food is known for being delicious and somewhat cheap, even in downtown Manhattan Thai food is delicious and reasonably priced. If you're giving smaller portions then make price adjustments. read more

Came here for a quick bite to eat. ordered a lemonade .... was NOT Good. Please switch to freshly made lemonade. it's simple and refreshing , nothing premixed . I can taste it . ordered a white cranberry right after. Ordered shrimp shumai... it was good . Then for main entree I Ordered roast duck w/ white rice ... it's was good. Very concerned for the people who think the food here is good. You guys must have never had good food! It's okay. I order the green curry for pick-up on occasion when I'm desperate since there is little competition for thai around these parts. The appetizers taste like they were mass ordered from a restaurant supplier and just hit with a deep fryer. Not sure how it's different from fast food or why it costs the same as going to a place with a creative, thoughtfully prepared menu. The location is a huge advantage, so I don't think the restaurant will ever suffer from lack of business. I just wish it had better tasting food. read more

This was a good evening. We came for some Thai food and left satisfied. We started with the chicken wings which were okay. The sauce is good but the chicken itself was not well seasoned. Pineapple fried rice is very good with chicken and shrimp. The basil rice with chicken was also very good. We chose the sticky rice for dessert which was a wonderful way to end the meal. Had the pleasure of attending a private event here yesterday evening. This is a beautiful location, although I wish I could have seen it during the day, as it's right on the Hudson. There's ample parking and the management was very friendly and accommodative. Having visited Thailand, I can assure you the food is good for Thailand comparison, and great compared to other US Thai restaurants. Being a private event, I had the pleasure of trying almost everything on the menu. They did have something I have not seen before, honey chili potatoes. Which were essentially french fries in a sweet chili sauce. This was my absolute favorite. I must admit, I stuffed myself with appetizers, and still managed to eat dinner. They have a separate area upstairs for private events, although we only had 35 people, I'm assuming they can cater to at least double that. Location and bathrooms are clean, and staff is attentive, quick and friendly. Will definitely be back! read more

I wish I could give this place a Zero star. It seems under staff, one waiter serving. We had reservation for 5:30p on Tuesday 5/18 we didn't get serve our dinner until about 8:15pm. We had to wait for everything including our drinks. We placed our order for apps waited about an hour, no apps. We asked waiter what happened since everyone who came after us got their foods he told us he forgot to put it in. We proceed and placed our dinner order. In which came out at a decent time. Racist establishment!! Me and my boyfriend arrived right when they opened for dinner at 4:30. We requested to sit in the corner table (with 4 chairs) because it had the best view. The tall Asian waiter (had no name tag) asked us to sit at a different table meant for 2 people. We happily obliged. A few minutes later, two Caucasian ladies arrived and the same waiter happily allowed them to sit at the very same corner. I do not recommend anyone coming here. This place. It's a shame I just found it. I go to school in Valhalla and it's a mere 15-20 minute drive, but went just tonight in the dead of winter. The parking lot is indeed HUGE as stated in previous reviews so you won't have to worry about that. The restaurant itself is by the water and is SO AESTHETIC, as is the whole bit of Irvington. There are fairy lights on the deck (which would be amazing to dine at during the summer time) and the interior is done extremely well. Props to the interior designer. Service is friendly but was a tad slow. My 3 girlfriends and I ordered the papaya salad to start with, which was extremely garlicky and pungent. I wish it was a tad sweeter but maybe that's the authentic taste... Then we shared the lamb curry, chicken rendang, the whole fish, and drunken noodles. I think that was the order in which we enjoyed them. Very flavorful, not too spicy!!! Will def be back to enjoy the atmosphere more. Also, PERFECT DATE PLACE. Sambal has the very best food and service I have had the pleasure of dining. Dawan is an excellent host and waiter and takes special care with every guest. I dine there as much as possible and have shared Sambal with many friends, including a group of friend colleagues today! So very yummy and plentiful! It is very clear that they have no idea how to run a restaurant at Sambal. I had a reservation for 7:15pm on a Friday evening and we were not seated until 8pm (after MANY complaints). Once seated we had to flag down a waiter after 10 minutes to get an order taken. Any time we needed something, we had to flag someone down, we were never proactively approached by wait staff. Honestly, we considered leaving so many times but it would have been just as difficult to find another restaurant to go to at that time. The only saving grace were the food and drinks which were all great but, sadly, I'll never return here. Terrible service and no communication amongst staff. I just had their green curry with tofu for the 2nd time. It was delicious with just the right amount of spicy heat. I that their tofu is organic (a must for me). It's authentic too (based on living in Thailand for 3 years). The pappaya salad was also a winner & reminiscent of my Thailand days. I savored some pad Thailand too (how could I not?!). Thank you to the great chef who also is a super nice guy. My only regret is I live in the SW ... otherwise I'd be a regular! I've been here three times so far, each time hoping to catch them on a good day. Food is either over seasoned with salt or under seasoned and bland. The rice portions are uncommonly small which is weird considering it has to be the least expensive portion of the meal. Their pad Thai was sweet. So sweet that the kids who love this dish typically refused to eat it. Prices are way too high for the quality. This is not fine dinning food quality yet our simple green curry and such were $17 base and get this they charge for the meat to be added, $2 for chicken and $4 extra for beef or shrimp. So for $17 you can have vegetable curry? This dinner was costly for sub par food. Which is disappointing. Why 3 stars? The location is great, decor is fun and well done. Staff are very friendly. But they need a shake up in their kitchen if they want to have repeat customers. read more

This is probably going to be our favorite Thai place in Westchester. We came here for the first time last night. My husband had the panang curry and I had the Chiang Mai curry noodles. Both of us really enjoyed the dishes. And we appreciated that they gave us spicy chili sauce without having to ask! We will be back soon to try more dishes and explore more of the menu! Also, it looks like it would be a great summer spot when the tables outside would be available to use! Can't wait to come back for that. read more

When we first arrived with a reservation, the hostess stated there were no tables available on the Patio, but luckily for us she made it happen. Excellent food and the view from the Patio was just as relaxing. As noted in a previous review, the service from our waitress can do with some improvement as we had to have the waiter tell her to come back and tend to us. They charged my card twice and then said we need to show the receipt to refund you mind you this was a week ago who has a receipt from a week ago. I told them I remember every item I ordered and I have proof on my bank statement still gave the run around!! Gorgeous evening. There with my son daughter-in-law and 2 year old granddaughter. Ordered apps and main together because wanted to make sure all moved smoothly after a very big day. Apps arrived and main entrees, as we learned, were never even put in! After a verrrrrry lengthy wait we had to leave what was supposed to have been a beautiful end to a beautiful day because my little doll was hungry and cranky. Sambal is a Thai and Malaysian restaurant. This restaurant may have one of the best views of the Hudson river and all of Westchester County as it has outdoors seating on the second floor. The food was OK,I found it slightly bland, perhaps they reduce the spiciness and authenticity to accommodate for the typical crowd. I found the service a little bit inattentive as well. The restaurant is in an old brick building with an exposed brick interior that gives it a warm ambiance. A large parking lot surrounds the restaurant making it quick and easy to park. The food was quite tasty. The four of us shared appetizers: the green papaya salad was crunchy and flavorful; the pork momos were soft and accompanied by two dipping sauces; the spring rolls were cooked to crispy perfection; the chicken satay was tender and well prepared. My entree was good but not quite as good as the appetizers. I had the "Manchurian" with chicken which had what I think was breaded and deep-fried cauliflower in a dark soy sauce that was too overpowering to the dish. The pad Thai and Drunkman noodles that my companions ordered appeared to be better choices. The service was prompt and friendly, but our entrees came out immediately after our appetizers which made it feel a bit rushed. This restaurant is located right next door to the Irvington MetroNorth station, overlooking the Hudson River. The aged brick walls, lanterns and the beautiful colors and patterns that adorn the seats really gives the restaurant character. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful in directing us to the entrees that were or could be made vegan. I went with the veggies and tofu and was very happy with my choice. We had the spring rolls and they were very good and slightly larger than normal. My husband chose the basil fried rice and enjoyed it. I think it's great that they attempted to accommodate vegans with a vegan duck entree which I may try the next time we return. read more

4 of us Had dinner here Friday night of Memorial Day weekend. Great location, if only the food and service made it worth going here. Our wine/cocktail order took over 30 minutes. The food was the biggest disappointment. Cauliflower bites were very greasy and a mess. The Whole fish, was badly over cooked. Tom Kha soup mediocre. Steamed dumplings not bad. Rice pudding, I left half of it. We would have sent the fish back, but it took so long to get our entrees that we declined and just wanted to leave. With a great view I couldn't understand why the windows from the dining room looking towards the river were filthy and we couldn't see the view that we went there for. It says it's a Thai restaurant, but everything is Indian. The previous restaurant was Indian, so it seems to me that the same owners just changed the menu. It was a terrible Indian restaurant, now it's a terrible "Thai" restaurant. There are too many great places to go on the river than here. read more
