What a moron. Pulled in and dialed the number plastered on the front window. Placed my order and asked for curbside delivery. The girl on the phone asked for my credit card number. The bill was $19.25. I said I'd be paying with cash. She said I couldn't because it was lunch time and very busy and they don't have time to be running out to my car. I pointed out that they have to run out to my car to deliver my order. She couldn't wrap her brain around it. She said she'd do it this time but not ever again. I told her she can keep the seventy five cents in change but she just repeated it would be the last time I could do this. I agree. There are a dozen sandwich shops in easy driving distance from Sammie's and they are hurting for business. I don't need to spend my money in a place that employs rude and exceedingly stupid people. I wasn't going to review Sammie's because I figured everyone knew what this place was. A dive, Chicago style, greasy, fill you up, quick food joint... but alas, idiot Yelp reviewers remain. Any Yelper should check their expectations at the door. If you think you are going to get a classy meal when you go here, turn around. This is working class food and it's great for what it is. I ordered an Italian sausage combo. The roll on the sausage seemed soggy and about 3 bites in I saw traces of the beef on the roll which appeared the must've put beef on the roll first and realized it wasn't right and then put the sausage on. The roll was spongy and the sausage was dry and too greasy. Since I ordered a combo I should've gotten fries too which never were placed on the tray despite my receipt saying combo and was told I would have to pay for the fries that I never received. I won't recommend Sammie's to anyone. Service and employees were not helpful or polite. Everyone seemed miserable. read more

Got a gyro with no tomatoes and some fries for dinner, and both were perfect! This gyro was so so delicious I can't even tell you; great sauce and delicious meat! A little too many onions but was an easy fix. For fast food, I was very impressed with the overall quality. Will be back no doubt! read more

Been to Sammies several times now, as I live close by. Its your usual grill type of place - burgers, dogs, fries, etc. Food is pretty good, and value meals (main item + drink + fries) are around $7-$8, servings are big. Something always felt weird going here, and it finally hit me. The employees seen to really hate their job. Order takers never smile, say thank you, can I help you, nothing. I agree that the staff are not friendly or appreciative, UNLESS Sammy or his son is there. However, the food is darn good. If you are going for the Italian beef, go after 1:00pm (seems to tenderize during the day). The giardiniara is really good, very good char dogs, burgers are average, gyro is huge but the meat can be a bit dry. All in all, you know what you are getting and it beats many of the Chicago Dog type places. read more

HEADS-UP: Keep a CLOSE eye on your receipt. I've only eaten at Sammi's 2-3 times in my life, spaced extremely far apart in time. I went there a few months ago specifically for an Italian Beef. Ordered it up; nothing unusual, Italian Beef w/cheese and hot peppers. The girl at the counter asked if I wanted a receipt, I said "no" (I'm a little bit environment conscious), she finished ringing my debit card up, gave me a number and walked away. (As several of the reviews I've read have already noted, they're not overly friendly and hospitable, just very transactional). I sat there for about 10 minutes or so until they called my number, picked it up and left. Roughly a month later I just happened to be looking over my bank account transactions and noticed that Sammi's charged me $29.95 (http://imgur.com/a/MJOhH) for a $8.55 Italian Beef?! W.T.M.F? I sent them a message via their website (http://www.sammies.biz) asking if they keep records of their sales, including dates, and included the link to the same image I linked above, as proof of the massive overcharge. That was over a month ago and I've still never heard back ... I mean, why bother responding when you can keep an extra $20 for nothing, right? At this point, I'm just going to post this here, contact the BBB with the same info, and pass the word of mouth around about the incident. I'm not the type to go storming into a greasy-spoon raising hell, and making a scene; especially over $20. and considering I didn't get a receipt, I have nothing else to prove what I actually ordered, which is why I was asking if they kept their own records. If they did, they'd see all that I ordered was 1 sandwich. That alone was enough for me to give just 1 star, but I'm a fair person; the sandwich itself was above-average. I did like it as far as greasy comfort food goes. It wasn't outstanding, but it was good, albeit over-priced. I personally don't think Portillos' Italian Beefs are the huge rave everyone talks about, so I look for better ones elsewhere. In that respect, I do like Sammi's Italian Beef better than Portillos Italian Beef, if that gives anyone an indication, so I'm rating them 3 stars, based on that 1 sandwich alone. Spent many years living in Chicago. My wife gets chemo a couple of miles East on 120 once a week. I decided to try their vienna hot dog. Spot on. For those that rate them less than that I ask you, exactly what are you expecting for less than $10? My $3 dog with all the fixings was a complete party in my mouth with a zero dollar water. I spent time talking with third generation owner and he is passionate about his business and keeping people safe. Sammies rocks. For comparison sake I had a dog at Lukes in Mundelein this past weekend. No comparison. Sammies is where you should go. Same exact price, 3X the dog. read more

TOTALLY DELICIOUS! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. They will even accommodate a special request, like putting your jumbo dog on Italian bread instead of a bun. The onion rings batter is to die for. All the sandwiches, cucumbers, tomatoes, cole slaw, etc. are fresh and great tasting. Staff wearing masks, and most customers as well, but no sign stating it was mandatory and sure enough, several customers entered lobby maskless smugly prancing around in everyone's face. Best Chicago style joint in the area. The owners (father son) are both great. All the food always comes out quickly and perfect, have only had one issue in 8 years of eating here at sammies. Even during peak lunch hour when I order the owner remembers the small talk from the previous time I came in, asking how my job is going etc. great people and great food. You guys earned this 5 stars. And the cooks back there, they deserve 10 stars, especially the two on grill and cold top. read more

I had a similar experience to K P. I came in on 11/20 around 11 am I ordered a Chicago dog & onion rings. About 3 hours after eating my meal I had the runs & vomiting at the same time. I ate at Sammies on 4/17 for lunch along with several relatives. We ordered Italian beef, chicken sandwiches and fries. Two of us got food poisoning and were throwing up along with diarrhea. I am almost back to normal after4 days of eating bland food. They passed a food inspection recently, but we won't eat there again. read more

Must have been a bad day, bad cook or sub par burgers. Took forever for one and when we did finally receive our order would have been better off going to McDonald for a quarter pounder with cheese. Only had the two hot dog special but they were way above average. You can tell they buy a superior level Vienna dog and they know exactly how to dress them with perfect proportion amounts of everything. I love that they still put the cucumber slices on the dogs. Hardly any place does that anymore. Fries were the squiggly cut style but were fried perfectly. I will stop here again anytime I can. read more

FAVORITE gyros in lake county! Great pita and tangy tzatiki. Honest chargrilled burgers and thick cut French frys. Always a go to!

Really good buffalo wings. You have to put your own sauce on them but that is some good chicken. I have also had the Gyro and it was top notch too. great place to stop when you are in the area. read more
