Stopped by Sammy's Mexican Grill with my wife while we were out visiting some shops around Catalina, and we're really glad we did. This place has a cozy, welcoming atmosphere and is tucked into a beautiful part of town. The decor inside was awesome and made the whole place feel comfortable and inviting from the second we walked in. My wife ordered the chimichanga and it was huge -- looked absolutely delicious and came out piping hot. I got the MAGA Burger because I was in the mood for some serious comfort food, and that burger delivered. The patties were juicy, the food was fresh and hot, and the bacon crumbled between the patties and melted together with the cheese was honestly an awesome surprise. The fries were just as good. Sammy himself was a really nice guy, and the rest of the wait staff we met were friendly and welcoming too. No matter your political views, the food here is flat-out good. I also appreciated all the signs supporting our troops throughout the restaurant. If you're passing through Catalina and want a good meal in a relaxed little spot, this place is definitely worth stopping at. read more

Let's see. Tried the carne asada burrito and carnitas tacos. Both tasted like Taco Bell fast food. Carne asada was dry with zero seasoning. In fact, most of the burrito was rice and beans. The carnitas in the taco was dry and flavorless. Service was just okay. Not very welcoming and felt very uncomfortable as there was another customer in the restaurant wearing a MAGA hat making racist remarks about Latinos. We just left. So unfortunate that we have xenophobic and racist people in a food establishment who are not asked to leave. read more

A hidden gem facing state Route 77 that serves great tasting Mexican food. Very short line but busy with friendly staff. The tables are clean, the menu is easy to read above the cashier and the food was served in a timely manner. Worth a stop read more

Hubby and I finally made it back to Sammy's after first visiting with our niece from out of town. Breakfast was delicious then! This time we had burgers and it took me back to the state fair back home. The waffle fries are delicious as well. Jorge was friendly, and the atmosphere is chill. Had some fresh squeezed lemonade. Stopped in for a quick lunch. The food was good and affordable. This restaurant is not attempting to be upscale just a comfortable local place to eat that is clearly pro Trump with their signature MAGA burger. Vomiting food! but if you eat tv dinners all the time; maybe you would like this low-quality fast food. The carne "asada" burrito was insipid with pure tortilla with almost no meat and no beans at all. The meat is not grilled or seasoned. It was boiled and ruined with no flavor at all! The salsa "sauce" is horrible; it is not made from scratch with fresh ingredients. :( The tamales are made with maseca flour (not real corn dough as the authentic homemade recipe dictates) and are also undercooked and completely bland. The tamales turned out awful. The tacos are sad and not authentic either... The food at this place sucks! We know better, so we will never come back... I started going about a month ago because of the negative reviews people gave them because of political views. I was happy to find that the food was excellent. the carne asada salad is the best. The rice is not flavorless and beans did not taste like canned beans. I feel sorry for people who feel the need to cram their beliefs down other peoples throat and have no qualms about trying to destroy a persons ability to earn an honest living. Not authentic Mexican food. Rice was flavorless, just colored yellow. Beans taste like from a can. It's conveyer line food, made in quantity no quality. Hostess was very pleasant and helpful food was plentiful and delicious. Sammy's Burrito, Fish taco grilled and Shrimp combination were our choices. I had traveled from Mississippi to visit family in Tucson and had to visit after seeing the Democrat hate directed at Sammy for his Trump endorsement. I was not disappointed at anything about Sammy's. One of his 3 sons delivered our food with a smile and pleasant response when I asked if he was Sammy's son. "One of three he replied." We stopped here from a softball tournament in Las Cruces. I don't recommend. Being from AZ, we love trying local spots but I've had better. The beans were okay, not a lot of flavor. The chips were also stale, like they had been sitting there. I had the Carne Asada nachos and the chips being stale brought it down. The carne asada wasn't bad but for nachos, the chips have to be crunchy. Ambiance was okay. We were in our softball gear so it worked. All in all I wouldn't go back. read more
