Happy Hour at Sammy's in Imperial Beach (inside Pier South Hotel) is totally worth it. I can't speak on the regular menu, but for happy hour you can't beat the prices or the views. The food is incredibly delicious. We took friends (one who is a picky chef), and he loved every bite. The views are breathtaking because you're literally facing the ocean if you sit out in the patio. We ordered what felt like everything from the menu: the dumplings, calamari, sweet chili wings, Margherita pizza, royal Hawaiian pizza, and the med sampler. They did not disappoint! Every bite was flavorful. Lexi, our server, was so patient, kind and really took care of us. When we first got there, my friend wanted shade and I wanted sun. Lexi was sweet enough to combine two tables so we could have the best of best worlds. For drinks, the boys had beer at $3 off the regular price, and I tried their Spa Day cocktail. It was not as refreshing as it sounded, but it was still quite delicious. My friend opted for the house white and loved it. Overall, Sammy's Happy Hour exceeded our expectations. The only downside was the service. While it wasn't bad, it could definitely be friendlier. You really can't beat the location. The patio sits right along the beach with beautiful views of the ocean, Imperial Beach, Mexico, and Point Loma. It's the kind of place where you could easily linger over a meal just for the scenery. The food was a pleasant surprise. Everything we ordered, including the drinks, was fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. Unfortunately, the service was a major letdown. Our server disappeared for what appeared to be a break while we were still dining, and no one else checked on our table. We waited quite a while before my dining companion finally got up to track down someone just to get a glass of water. It felt like we had been forgotten. The food and the view were definitely worth the visit, but the service kept this from being a great experience. Wow this exceeded my expectations. I needed a last minute plan for Father's Day and I wanted ambiance, views of the ocean, a solid menu, and close to home. I found this after a some research and I am so happy I did. We got a booth right next to the beach and had the best views right before sunset. We order the mediterranean dip sampler which included pita bread, hummus, labneh, and roasted eggplant. So delicious. I got the grilled shrimp tacos and my dad got the chicken fettuccine alfredo. For dessert we shared the flourless chocolate cake with some ice cream and this a must try. Parking was easy to find, service was great and timely, and it's a nice area to walk around after. I rarely write reviews like this, but this was one of the more frustrating restaurant experiences we've had, especially as hotel guests expecting a convenient beachfront dining option. When we arrived, a server handed us menus and told us to sit wherever we wanted. From that point on, we were basically ignored. We sat there patiently, but no one came over for water, drinks, or even to acknowledge us. We finally had to ask if anyone had seen us sit down. Each server gave us the same quick response -- "We'll be right with you" -- but no one actually came back. What made it worse was watching other guests who arrived after us get water, drinks, and service while we continued to sit there waiting. We asked again who our server was supposed to be, were told someone would be right back, and after another 10 minutes of nothing, we finally got up and left. The biggest issue here is the service culture. The staff came across as rude, indifferent, and uninterested. As hotel guests, it honestly felt like the restaurant did not care because it is not actually part of the hotel. Maybe that is not the case, but that is absolutely how it felt from the customer side. Service is everything, especially when you are one of the main sit-down beachfront dining options for hotel guests. Unfortunately, this experience was bad enough that I would not go back to the restaurant, and it would make me think twice about staying at the hotel again since the main nearby options are this restaurant or Brigantine. The location is great, but the service needs serious attention. read more

My family and I came here yesterday. The view is amazing, not a bad seat in the house. The restaurant and bar were both busy but the service was still top notch. Our server Lexi recommended the steak sandwich meal that comes with a beer and churros for $30. Great recommendation and you can't really beat that deal anywhere in the area. Unfortunately, the service really brought the experience down. It wasn't busy at all, yet our waiter seemed to be avoiding our table. Every time he walked by, he looked down to avoid eye contact. Our favorite place to have breakfast/brunch, especially in IB! We come here at least probably once a month. The views are beautiful and the breakfast quesadilla is always to die for! And the service is always friendly! We had Jose as our waiter and he was great! One thing I will say to the management/owners, this place could use more staff. We have been here a handful of times and every single time we love the food and we are always welcomed by staff with great hospitality and a wonderful atmosphere. Our server tonight, José, was so kind and attentive. He was funny and professional. We had a large group and he took the time to speak with each one of us and to be patient as we made our selections. We ate on the outside deck overlooking the ocean. There were several groups eating at the same time as us, but we felt like we were getting careful attention from start to finish. We ordered short ribs, Greek salad, Wagyu burgers, lettuce cups, and don't get me started on the delicious house made chicken strips with basil ranch! Updated review: We had Sunday brunch and enjoyed the experience immensely. We were promptly seated outside near a large heater, with expansive views of the beach and pier. We ordered the ABC Hash, Smoked Brisket Hash, and a Bacon Benny. Cappuccino, Hammerhead, and a Green Bloody Mary completed the meal. The ABC hash, standing for avocado, pork belly, and cheddar, was a surprisingly light tasting dish with a primary flavor of avocado. It needed more seasoning but improved with hot sauce. Everything was nicely cooked, it was just under seasoned. The smoked brisket hash was outstanding, with rich Smoky flavor and nicely seasoned potatoes. The over easy eggs were cooked perfectly. The thick slice of rosemary sourdough toast was worth the extra $1.50. The star of the show was the bacon benny, with soft poached eggs, four slices of bacon and spears of asparagus under a pile of hollandaise. Accompanied by truffle fried potato balls which were soft and creamy inside, very tasty!! The garlic roasted tomato was the perfect extra touch. We all decided that's what we would get next time, or at least one of the Benny sandwiches anyway. It was a very nice experience, we all left with full bellies and smiles, promising to come back again soon. Highly recommended. Service was a little bit slow, but they told us from the outset that they were short staffed. It wasn't that slow and the service we received was perfect otherwise. read more

It is located in the Pier South Hotel on Seacoast Drive IB Their Happy Hour from 3 to 6 pm daily is a great deal. They need to have a bigger sign promoting their restaurant outside the hotel.
