This place WAS great .. but they have quickly declined in quality . I was weary after the last time I ordered, but figured maybe they had a different chef that day or something, but this new below quality level of food seems to have become the norm at this establishment. Let just focus on today's order The poori I ordered today was floppy (not cripsy) , covered in oil and just outright inedible. The oil running down your lip if you try to bite it, like the oil was not hot enough when they cooked it and they never let it drain, I am not an expert chef but even I can tell that this was just carelessness in the kitchen. The Chicken TIkka Masala had dry old tasting chicken in it. it tasted bad and the rubbery texture was even worse. The Somosa's come in a bag that was literally falling apart from the oil... again, I really thing the oil was not hot enough when they cooked it and they did not drain it. I would say that this was an isolated incident, but it happened the last time we ordered somosa's too . Then there was the thing that just pissed me off. I ordered a diet Snapple. I am guessing they were out, so instead of calling and offering me something different, they put a normal Snapple in the bad, which I would actually be fine with , but to try and conceal what they were doing they wrapped the Snapple bottle in tin foil so I would not notice until the delivery guy had already left. That is some straight up sneaky ass underhanded stuff right there..,, There are plenty of really good Indian places in Astoria and LIC , check those out and don't waste your money here until they start caring about their product and customers. e read more

I went there a few days ago, it was nice little Indian restaurant. Just unique, and the menu was accommodating. This place doesn't have a lot of sitting arrangement. It is mostly a take out place, with 4-5 tables only. I was able to place an online order for take out, then upon arrival, i chose to sit and eat there, and they were easy on accommodating all that without charging anything extra. I tried my friend's malai kofta (the croquettes are a bit sweet, and I liked the sauce more than my korma) and rasmalai (which is sweeter than the kheer, but not so sweet). I tried the Taj Mahal beer which is like a pilsner, and light. I enjoyed it. I'd come back here to try other things, perhaps during the weekend buffet, to give it another shot at being my go-to Indian in Astoria given how affordable this is.

Taking over for another desi-owned spot (#1) several years ago, they've done a much better job of capturing an audience by focusing on a niche of Goan inspired foods, along with a slew of classic Indian dishes that span from north to south. The interior is modest and quaint, and a one bright / memorable outdoor setup during the pandemic. The restaurant is not big, but they've managed to cram in a good number of tables to make it place for 30 folks. Takeout and delivery are also very popular, and I've been fortunate to have had all of the above. Some immediate standouts: goan fish curry, xacuti curry, and the caldeen curry are quite excellent and all come from the Indo-Portuguese side of the menu, which are all loaded with flavor. Additionally, the tandoori selection (especially the chicken malai, seekh kebab, and methi salmon) and variety of curries (rogan josh, korma, jalfrezi, makhani, etc.) are also very flavorful. As with many other Indian places, especially ones that cater to the southern palate, there is an excellent vegetarian selection. The saag chana is one of my go-tos, but the peeli dal, bhindi masala, gobi manchurian over their lemon or tomato rice all merit a big thumbs up. There is a part of me that is totally unsure about this place. Having sampled most of the menu, I am sad to report most of the dishes are hardly memorable. With average prices, presentation, and taste, there is not one dish that surpasses the rest. Most items are priced between $9-14, which feels a bit spendy compared to most other Indian establishments in Queens. Here is where it gets interesting - because Jassi's is also a deli, they serve a whole array of sandwiches (burgers, wraps, Philly cheesesteaks, cold cuts etc.) which ironically have fared better than their Indian food. Most of the sandwiches are within the 5.50-$8.00 range and seem to be adequate for what it's worth. The cold turkey and brie is my go-to sammy here and I would recommend staying away from their burgers. Delivery here is quick and they close every day at 9PM. I would assume business would be better if they were a late night operation, since they need some type of edge to stay unique when there are infinitely better deli and Indian joints all around.
